So blessed to receive this as ARC from the author herself. Now onto the story. This was an emotional gut punch that left me reeling more than once. Holly strong, fierce, passionate and smart. Jackson was a cocky and arrogant teenager but when he fell for Holly or as he quickly nicknamed her Malibu when they were 17. He softened for her. Healed a part of her she couldn’t heal herself. At the same when he enlisted in the marines and was later missing in action it almost broke both of them beyond repair. This love story was full of second chances and pain but at the same time it showed how love and finding your person can get you through anything.

Let me first tell you, make sure you are tall enough to ride this roller coaster, because that is exactly what this is, an emotional roller coaster. I dont even know if i was tall enough to ride this roller coaster, but I am so glad that i said screw it and did it anyway!! <3
Jackson and Holly.. the trauma that both of these two go through is off the charts. We knew going into it that these two had a rough start, but mannn that start was alot bumpier than i thought. Holly is strong and she is independent, she is resilient and she is a BAD A**! She couldn't have asked for a better match than Mr Jackson Morgan.. Marine.. football lover... and a MC rider too... man oh man.. These two not only help each other with the trauma that they both have, but they help the others as well. The way that Holly takes Maria under her wing like there isn't a care in the world, and then builds a business doing it!! She is a rockstar!!!
The way that these two love is one for the history books, and they had no better teacher than Hannah and August. I loved getting to see these two more in this book than you did in Riding the Line.. the way that they take care of not only each other, the entire Steel Saints crew, but the town too. they are the family that everyone wants to have!!!
I could literally quote this whole book, but the one quote from Hannah that really stuck with me and It will be in my brain for life "Love big enough to hold sorrow without letting down the table"

Book 2 follows Holly and Jackson and takes us back to the before—before Riding the Line, before healing, before their happily-ever-after. It’s the story of how they first met, how they clashed, and how their pain shaped every moment between them. This is also the time when Maria and Diego first got together, and when Mac and Dalton’s parents were still alive, which adds so much depth and heartbreak to the world.
This book is rooted in trauma, growth, and the slow, painful process of healing. Holly and Jackson spend so much of this story at each other’s throats, hurting, trying, breaking, and trying again. Even knowing they eventually end up together didn’t soften the blow—their journey still shattered me. Nothing about their path is easy, and the emotional weight they all carry is felt on every page.
Meeting Hannah and August was one of my favourite parts. Their warmth and presence made the story feel fuller. And the scene where Hannah shoves a drunk Jackson into the trunk of her car? I was smiling the whole time, especially remembering how she later tells Nicky that story. It made everything feel beautifully connected.

This book was an emotional roller coaster! Holly and Jackson's story tore my heart to pieces and put it back together again... over and over and over. The trauma she went through from 12-16 broke her. The newfound family (including Jackson) helped heal her. The emotional healing and growth took years and she became a stronger person... until tragedy strikes her life in a completely different way. I just wanted to hug her so many times! She may be from a wealthy family with (mostly) supportive parents but her strength is all her own as you'lldiscover. And oh my gosh, I love Hannah! Sidetracked right now... I wish I would've read this before I read Riding the Line. Anyhoo! Jackson, sweet Jackson. He lives in a rickety trailer with an alcoholic, absent mother. The kid literally went looking for work in exchange for food when he was 10! I'm so glad he had friends with parents who truly cared. Meeting Holly just before senior year turned out absolutely nothing like I thought it would, it was so much better. There is no way this won't be a movie at some point. Sorry, I keep rambling instead of leaving a real review. Jackson and Holly don't have the kind of love story that's simple and smooth. They have years of building trust, working through trauma, then more trauma, eventually addiction, more trauma, and so much deep, true, unwavering love that pulls them both back together.

Late ARC review
This book was amazing! It was an emotional roller coaster. It was definitely one ‘Hell of a Ride!’ I laughed. I cried. I got frustrated. I giggled like a school girl.
There were traumatic experiences in both the main characters lives (Holly and Jackson). They lived the trauma separately and together.
Holly is a strong woman. When she was young, she went through a traumatic experience causing her family to move for a fresh start. Holly met Jackson and his gang of friends (Steel Saints). She also met Maria, who becomes her best friend. Maria was going through her own trauma. Her newfound friends become a family that help her heal from the trauma.
Jackson didn’t have an easy upbringing. He was living with an alcoholic mother who was always passed out. Jackson joined the Marines which had him go through PTSD trauma.
Holly and Jackson went through addiction and learned about second chances. They spend years learning to trust and building a strong and devoted love. There were a few smutty scenes that just showed the time they spent learning to trust each other and their continued growing love.
This book talked about Mac and Dalton’s parents, August and Hannah. In Riding the Line, they weren’t there. So it was nice getting to know how Mac and Dalton were raised. It made me want to read Riding the Line again.

WOW!!!!! This book is a hell of a Rollercoaster but one you don't want to get off. I laughed out loud, tensed up, was frustrated, smiled, and I cried.
This is Holly and Jackson's story and kinda a bit of Maria and Diegos as well but mainly Holly and Jackson.
Holly is a 17 year old girl from California moving to Georgia after she went through traumatic SA as a young girl and the attacker got away with it.
Jackson is part of the Steel Saints and best friends with Mac, Dalton and Diego. He comes from the trailer park with a alcoholic mom and trying to figure out how to get out and do something with his life.
Their first meeting Jackson almost runs Holly over with his bike and she rips him a new one (she's got a razor sharp tounge). They try to avoid each other all summer bit then come to find out they will do senior year of high school together which neither of them enjoy lol.
They all eventually be come friends. Jackson eventually learns wat happened to Holly and they start to become friends and starting to trust each other. He enlists in the Marines and they do this back and forth slow burn for years. Then fall in love and something bad happens and life is on pause and then more stuff happens and then rebuilding.
This story covers sobriety and addiction from different stand point and pov. There's tons of emotion. I really enjoyed this book.

This is my first read from Sarah Mason and I’ll definitely be going to have a look and see what else they have. I was lucky enough to recieve this book as an ARC. I am leaving this honest review with my own thoughts and opinions.
If you have triggers - definitely check them before reading.
This book is so well written. The characters are well thought out and explained so well that I can picture them. It had me laughing and crying.
Holly (also referred to as blonde and Malibu), has been through a horrible experience and when her abuser is let of Scott free, her and her family relocate for a fresh start where no one knows them. She’s broken and doesn’t know how to fix herself, or if she wants to. What she does know is, she’ll never trust another man who isn’t her father.
Jackson is your typical teenage boy. A drunk for a mother. Father who has left. All he has is sport and the motorcycle club he’s a part of. His home away from home. He can’t see a future and doesn’t know what he wants but he wants to be better for her. For Malibu. He enlists.
Their story is heartbreaking but amazing all at the same time. Holly has goals, to open a shelter for to help people in need. Jackson has a goal; to come home to Malibu just like he promised. Can he keep that promise?

I absolutely love Holly and Jackson's story! This is book 2 in the series and Sarah takes us backwards in time to learn about Holly and Jackson, how everybody met, and I absolutely loved it.
While the timeline is prior to Riding the Line (book 1) you really need to read them in order so that you understand who the characters are.
This book is definitely on the heavier side and might emotionally destroy you, but we learned about Holly's past and what happened to make her who she is now. She absolutely went through it and no matter what, she stayed strong. Jackson didn't have it easy growing up either and he did everything he could to make sure he did something to make his life better. Each of them went through things alone and then they went through some things together and their healing journey was just amazing and actually really relatable.
The found family component in this one with the friends group and the MC was absolutely fantastic. We also got to meet Mac and Dalton's parents, and their mom was just so amazing.

We meet Maria before Diego, we learn why Holly is the way she is, Jackson before the military changed him, and Mac and Dalton before the loss of their mom.
Even knowing how the future plays out in Ride the Line, this book will grab you and send you on a roller coaster of emotions from sad to happy to anger and bring on the tears! All of the book is heavy! There are talks of SA, addiction (pills and alcohol), mental health, abuse, teen pregnancy.. please before going into this book make sure you are in a good place mentally. I wasn’t when it was first offered to me as an ARC, I had to reach out to Sarah and let her know I just couldn’t. I’m glad I took the time and read it slow and when it got too heavy I put it down.

Hollllly CRAAAAP. Sarah came out of Riding the Line and said hold my beer while writing Hell Of a Ride. SO MANY freaking tears. dear lord. my heaaart hurt. but my heart was so full coming back and seeing our gang in the earlier days. to meet Hannah (Dalton and macs mom) who everyone loved so much.
To get Holly and Jackson's story....omg my heart. I thought i loved Dalton and Mac and....well Jackson just took over that number one spot. check your triggers but dear LORD this book made me feel things. I tried reading on lunch break at work and I couldn't cause id start crying.
I can tell this will be one of my favorite MC romances of all time. Bravo. freaking BRAVO....and I hope people are ready for the audio....cause its going to be epic.

Talk about the best emotional roller coaster I have ever been on!
In this story we follow our FMC Holly who has been through a traumatic experience. When her family moves to Georgia she meets our MMC who does not make a great first impression.
As the story goes Holly makes incredible friends and watches the boy she hates become into a man she slowly starts to love.
When Our MMC Jackson signs up for time in service to help get his life going in the path he wants he starts to regret his decision because it means leaving her behind.
There are twists and turns throughout this story! It will have you laughing and getting excited, to get mad along side the characters and even feeling the emotional break downs!
I highly recommend this book! It really was one Hell of a Ride!

I feel like this is one of them type of books that you don't forget about it leaves a book mark in your soul in the best way possible. This book is definetly a emotional roller coaster but is so worth it. I loved Holly's personaility she wasn't scared to stand up for herself or others but doesn't mean she isn't fighting stuff inside the courage this girl has is something else. I loved her and Maria's friendship. Jackson OMG bad boy on the outside but also is facing things. These two are so opposite but also work so well together. You don’t have to read the first book but knowing what you know from the first one helps get you through a rough part of the book. I read the 1st book and still was emotional as hell! Hell is what they both went through and back. Jackson and Holly weren’t set out to be a we but fought their way to it. Holly went through hell to have a hard shell and Jackson had an absent mother but a friend group to keep him going. Enemies to lovers chef kiss. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

This book was amazing! Holly and Jackson were the absolute best. This book was filled with so much depth and emotion, trauma and pain. Holly is such a strong and fierce woman. She went through so much. And when Jackson returns from overseas, he’s dealing with PTSD and addiction. These two went through it and then some. But they take pulled it together with strength and determination. This book had me in its clutches from beginning to end. Absolutely amazing.

With book 2 we’re going back in time before Nicole.We follow Holly and Jackson story from their teens to their adulthood.I knew Holly was a bad ass from book 1 but reading her story and understanding the whys.. Hell Ride of a left me absolutely wrecked. This book is an emotional roller‑coaster from start to finish, and I was not prepared. Jackson and Holly have both endured trauma, so much pain and every time you think they’ve hit the bottom, the story digs even deeper.
It’s heartbreaking, intense, and beautifully written. I’m so glad I picked this one up. it was worth the pain.

Gosh this book! I have very little words for this it has left me in tears and speechless. This book was real. The story I could see actually happening. I can't get over it. It is absolutely a 5 star book! This blew me away. Holly and jackson are both so amazingly strong it's insane!!

This was a great book. A true story of struggle and breakthrough and tragedy over triumph, and coming of age and truly finding yourself and putting yourself out there into the world and realizing you’re braver and stronger than you give yourself credit for. I totally recommend checking this book out

This book was so good. The story starts off as high school seniors and them developing long distance. It's a trauma bonding and healing at best. Please read those triggers. Does have teenage pregnancy.

As usual, Sarah Mason put out an AMAZING book. The characters carried over from Riding the Line- I loved them!! The story was exciting. It kept you glued to the book and wanting more! I would read anything by this author!! I just wish I could get signed books. Keep up the good work Sarah Mason!!

Wowza!! An emotional rollarcoaster but beyond amazing! Holly and Jackson fought for the love story! This book will truly take you on an amazing ride!! Highly recommend! Beyond 5 stars!!!
