A great career, financial stability, and the looks to attract any woman he chooses, Dr. Daniel Bennett was a man that had it all. But he is also a man with a secret that haunts him while he’s awake and threatens to kill him while he sleeps. Four years ago an encounter with Africa’s most notorious and ruthless warlord ended in a massacre and a brutal murder he hasn't been able to forget or forgive. The once outgoing and celebrated doctor has now become a cold and heartless recluse, intent on living a life free of emotional commitments.
Until the United Nation’s top crisis counselor; the incredibly beautiful and determined Ayana Burundi walks into his life forcing him to face his emotions and the darkest moments of his past. But for Ayana there is only one thing driving her; bringing the warlord Kronte “The Terror” Kroma before the international courts to answer for his crimes against her people and the doctor is the key. What begins as a simple request quickly turns into a struggle of wills and emotions as Daniel and Ayana’s lives fall into a collision course between love and a warlord willing to do anything to silence anyone that threatens his freedom.
This is my first time reading the work of Mr. Navi Robins. I couldn’t put this book down and if his other books are as riveting and phenomenal as this one, he has a follower for life. I love the story of Dr Daniel and Ayana. Although they came from different paths, life always has a way of bringing you full circle. Mr. Robin showed us that whatever life throws at you, we always have to beat the odds.
Mr. Robins keeps you so intertwined with his writing; it just keeps you coming back for more. I became very emotional as I read some parts of this book; but I had to find out the outcome. Love this book!!! I highly recommend this book as a must read novel.
This book was really good. I was interested just by the synopsis and wasn’t disappointed. Daniel and Ayana life in Sudan were a story to be told and I was very intrigued. The author painted a perfect picture about Africa, genocide, race and much more and each message was appreciated. I was very shocked to learn about some of the secrets involved but I’m happy I was right on one of them. I definitely recommend this book
I started this book with no idea of what to expect or even if I was going to like it. Immediately upon reading the opening sequence I was drawn in. I wasn't 20 pages in and the tears were rolling down my face with an intensity unlike any I've ever experienced outside of the death of a family member. Hear me when I say I am not over exaggerating the depth of my emotionally tinged response. The main characters, Ayana and Daniel had strength intertwined in their DNA that clearly was forged in the most hellacious fire making it IMPOSSIBLE to break their will and determination to live. From the tragic events that Daniel encountered during his stint in Sudan, he was left a mere shell of his former self. Upon his return to the United States, he glided through life in a continuous fog only surfacing enough to complete his job as a physician in one of the most dangerous cities in America, Chicago. His only tether to reality was his job, his family, and his equal parts vulgar, doggedly loyal best friend, Timothy. Timothy brought the funny in the story. He was the comic relief in an otherwise immensely intense plot. While he was hilarious, Timothy was also just as serious about his friend's well-being and peace of mind being restored. I loved the brotherhood and friendship bonds that they shared. It was refreshing to read about two highly intelligent African American men making a way and giving back to a community that is plagued with violence on a daily basis. After learning the severity of Daniel's psychological torture he solicited the aid of the beautiful Ayana. Ayana, who was beautiful, incredibly smart, and also a survivor of heinous acts was like the phoenix who rose from the ashes all with the intent of saving a kindred spirit. Dr. Kohlman, a white supremacist was another source of comedy for me. His views and racist rhetoric were disgusting but the way that Mr. Navi Robins portrayed and displayed the actions of such a silly man albeit sad, showcased a stark and harsh reality of what is still, unfortunately, a prevalent issue in our society. This book caused me to travel from one end of the emotional spectrum to the next simply by opening my eyes to some of the most atrocious events ever perpetrated against a race of people. I went from being honored that I was given the opportunity to read such a GREAT book, to having feelings of shame that I was not aware of the plight that so many of our African brothers and sisters face, to excitedly looking forward to what I could do as an individual to become more involved. Never before have I had a book to solicit such a forceful call to action from the depths of my soul. I flipped the last page in my kindle this morning with the spirit of revolution burning internally in such a manner that I know NOTHING will ever be able to extinguish its fiery embers. Mr. Navi Robins exhibits a skill unlike many that I've ever encountered. His intelligence shines through every page and his passion would elicit a response from even the most jaded of characters. While there are various serious themes throughout the story, nothing is over done or comes across as preachy or too much. Each nuance, each gesture that I experienced while reading this masterpiece heightened every sense that I possess and still I wanted MORE!!!! If you are looking for something outside of the box, something to embolden your revolutionary spirit, something to enlighten and enhance your mind, you need look NO FURTHER. Mr. Navi Robins brings romance, enlightenment, violence, familial bonds, and much much more as you delve into this devastatingly beautiful world. Kudos Mr. Robins!!! This is my first foray into your literary universe, but it assuredly will NOT be my last!!!
Dr. Daniel Bennett has a promising career, money, and any woman he chooses. The sky is truly the limit. But he suffers from a past that could literally crush him. He also holds the key to bringing down one of the most notorious and ruthless warlords in all of Africa but will he? Ayana Burundi, the United Nation’s top crisis counselor, is in need of the good Dr.’s cooperation to bring Kronte ‘The Terror’ Kroma to justice for crimes committed in Sudan. Will she be able to convince Dr. Bennett that he needs to come forth to bring Kronte and his army to justice? Readers will be surprised at all these two encounter on their journey to justice.
I really enjoyed Navi’Robins’ “Tragedy, Lust & Destiny.” It is action packed, fast paced and an overall great read. The author paints a vivid picture for readers of all the mass destruction and the endless sufferings at the hand of la monster. The plot is very good and the book well written although there were a few grammatical errors. I highly recommend this novel to others.
THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME READING HIS WORK AND I'M SO GRATEFUL THAT I GAVE HIM A CHANCE THE BOOK WAS GOOD HE'S A GREAT WRITER AND VERY TALENTED. AYANA AND DANIEL PROVED THAT YOU CAN BEAT ALL ODDS AGAINST YOU. I LOVED THE SEX SCENE RE READ THAT A COUPLE OF TIMES. LOL
NAVI IS A GREAT INSPIRATION HE HAS ENCOURAGED ME TO WRITE AFTER READING THIS NOVEL HE HAS A FRIEND FOR LIFE IN ME. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
I LOOK FORWARD TO READING HIS OTHER BOOKS AS WELL.
First off, I just have to say WOW!! I love how the author shows when an alpha male and an alpha female come together there isn't a force that can break them apart!!! I also love how the author first shows Dr. Bennett as kind of stand offish and selfish but in reality he has compassion but has been harden with the reality of life and his situation. This shows the true power of Black love!! Mr. Robins I am officially a fan ! I look forward to book 2 !!!
This is a definite page turner, it grabs you from the 1st page! In this story you will see true friendship & loyalty. A friend goes above & beyond to help the other. And see what's destined to be, will be. I truly enjoyed it, There is surprised, twist & turns.
“Tragedy, Lust & Destiny” is about two strangers with harrowing pasts that come together to try to defeat a common enemy. Within the story, there are two main characters and several supporting characters. Each supporting character’s role plays a pivotal part in the main character’s development. Of the main and supporting characters, Timothy, a supporting character, was the character that I enjoyed the most. I say that because for his character to be such a self-absorbed individual, there were layers of him that were exposed the more the story progressed. Exposure brought on by selfless acts to “save” his best friend, Daniel (one of the main characters).
If I could change anything about the story, I would make the hospital hold a press conference at which someone (preferably Dr. Kohlman) apologized to the staff and all past and present patients for Dr. Kohlman’s extremely ignorant remarks in their presence.
Overall, I found the story to have an ascending flow; steadily matching the intensity of the story as the story progressed.
I initially struggled to get through this book even though the beginning pulled me right in. But once the story got going it really grabs you and pulls you in. The ending seemed a little rushed but most of my questions got answered in the end. Such relevance to current world situations....definitely a different kind of love story. 1st read from this author but definitely not my last.
I really did enjoy this book, it really had me on an emotional roller coaster ride. BUT I LIKED IT!!!!! I wonder if there is a book 2, if not when is it coming out? Timothy & Meagan's story.....
This was a thrilling escape into the land of Africa that truly gave a taste of the three elements mentioned in the title. While the cover is both odd and interesting, the symbolism behind the images and how it relates to the story was a dead ringer. Romantic, suspenseful, and sexually descriptive. Flipping through the pages of this book was amazing. I found no errors while reading, which made for an easy read. At no point in this book did I have to flip back to comprehend or make sure the facts or statements lined up. This novel was well constructed and refreshing amongst its genre. The formatting of designs and fonts flowed beautifully to create a fluid story. Initially, when I read the synopsis I felt, it read 'wordy'. After reading the book in its entirety I realized the necessity behind the wording and the maturity level of the author and the audience it was intended for. Ayana and Dr. Daniel Bennett were the show stealers. With a love so deep and real, it was impossible not to be totally caught up in their story. Their romance was forged under peculiar circumstances, but it was not an unrealistic. Sexually speaking, the scenes were described as what you would expect the perfect sexual experience to be like with the person you love. Uninhibited, and free, Daniel and Ayana make you taste the passion through their sweaty and fulfilling pleasure. This story was different not only because of where some of the story takes place, but because of the accuracy of a different culture’s description. I literally felt like I had known a Sudanese person just from reading this book. I truly enjoyed the way the characters grew matured and developed throughout the story. I could always expect more from the, and that feeling was always delivered upon. The novel ended with a possibility of a spin off of Ayana and Daniel’s love story. I recommend this book to any and all adults who are looking for a different love story, an amazing cultural experience, and a matured author.
First, I would like to thank Navi Robins for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Navi Robin’s dedication touched me as he dedicated it to the victims of hatred and genocide. The victims of the Holocaust, 9/11, and every war or conflict this planet’s history that needless and brutally took the lives of those unable to defend themselves. It was not until I finished the book til I understood fully why he made this dedication. My heart hurt for all those that suffered the same pain.
For me as a reader it was hard to get into the first chapter of the book. I am not a fan of violence of any kind. However, I knew that side of the story must be told. It gave you a better since of where Ayana and Dr. Daniel Bennett were coming from. What to come later on in the book blew my mind!!
I don’t usually talk about the end of the book in my reviews. I wont give away any spoiliers. I have to say though how and what Navi wrote near the ending of the book I didn’t see coming. There is a very heart wrenching emotional and physical (no not sexual by any means) scene played out by Ayana and Dr. Bennett. It had me at the end of my chair screaming omg are you serious!! What an amazing tie in to the story. You will have to read it to find out.
I loved the chemistry Ayana and Dr. Bennett had for eachother. Navi did an amazing job with the attention to detail, the scenes of passion, the different sexual escapades, etc. Those two were HOTT together!!
There was a point in the book where Ayana confessed to everything that bad that happened in her past. That was a very hard scene for me to read. Not to mention one that was very hard for her to admit to Dr. Bennett about. I wanted to reach into my kindle and give her a big hug. She is a strong woman for all the pain, suffering, and bullshit she went through.
Tragedy, Lust & Destiny is a difficult book to explain or to review. Especially without giving much away. Navi' weaves together several different themes into one great story. There's love, tragedy, politics, racism, and even God is tackled in this to an extent. It's kind of an odd mashup to be honest with you. In one moment they're having hot and heavy premarital sex, and in the next talking about having faith in God and being devout Christians. It was just different to see the two together. In with swearing, sex, partying, and violence we have...great spiritual messages. I'm not saying this is a bad thing at all. It strangely worked. It just stood out as a different approach to me.
Overall, I felt like this was a fresh and interesting approach that wove several topics and genres together pretty seamlessly and it kept me interested and turning the pages. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. My only real critique is that it definitely could use a good editing, other than that the story line and character development were spot on.
Ok at first I was like this book is boring lol cause it's different from the street urban books I read.. but I kept reading and it got more interesting. Very detailed and it pulled you into how the characters were feeling. Don't judge the book by its cover it's really good I promise you won't be disappointed. I felt bad for ayana and Dr Bennett OMG you can't imagine. His friend Timothy was a butt hole at times but I guess he meant well. See for your self and get the book. Job well done navi.
Tragedy, Lust and destiny by navi' robins reviewed by kaila for cbr
Wow.. so this one is a hard thing to review. The storyline was amazing.. the writing was very good. I am not a big fan of politics, religion and racisim.. which all of those things are in this book. I loved the ending.. oh man that was the best thing ever. Some of the scenes were so hard to read.. the things they both went through.. the child... the pain.. but the love.. oh man the love.. the sex was hott.. and everything they had to endure apart and together. Very good story and I'm glad the author allowed me to review it.
This book was amazing. The story makes you feels like you are in the middle of the action that is happening. The characters are so well developed, that you feel you know their full history. Reading this page turner story, you will be on a roller-coaster of feeling from Happy to sad then next minute. When you think that you have caught on to what may happen next, you will be in for a great surprise. You will get a feel what happens when there is too much hate in the world, truly written wonderful and eye opening. * I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review *
I started this book november 16th and finished it November 27th! I'm usually a 2-3 day reader but this is soooo not that type of book. Of course i didnt want to put it down but I actually spent time with these characters, I fell in love when they did and mourned when they did. This book was so full of detail, and so enlightnening that you would think the author had experienced these God awful traumatic events! Oh and the surprises! Can this become a movie already???
This was a good book, I loved the kitchen sex scene in this book, I loved the fight with Ayana and Satu, Omg this book was all that and a shot of Hennessey!! The way Ayanna and Daniel relationship was going I didn't think that they would make it! Not going to tell you the story but do read it!! It's really good!!Had me jumping up and down hollering!! Way to go Navi, you truly have my respect and a loyal reader as well..
This book was absolutely great. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. Very different from my usual books I read. The story line was very unique. It took me through so many emotions. I love how Daniel and Ayana become so close and eventually fell in love. They were made for each other. They both endured so much pain while in Sudan but was determined to make it out alive. I would definitely recommend this book.
From start to finish the details of the story were very captivating! The way the author described everything so detailed kept my attention from start to finish! The story line itself was beyond anything I've ever read! The characters in the book were so brave and full of courage, it pulled me in and made me want to read more. I absolutely enjoyed the works of this author and will most defiantly be reading more!
Man oh man.... After reading an excerpt on radio show Raw Sex Uncovered, I had to have this book to see what it was all about. After reading it, I fell in love with it!!!! This book had me on an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end... I was yelling, cussing, crying, screaming, ooohing, awwwing, and throwing the book as well!!! Of course I went and picked it back up... But I would recommend this read to anyone. Skillfully written and I loved every minute of the ride.
Daniel and Ayana went through so much that my heart almost gave out. This book had so much drama excitement edge love lust and lots of killing, but it was so damn good. This book will have you on the edge yelling screaming crying praying. This is a must read one click it now.
This book started off slow for me . By chapter three it turned around and I was HOOKED!!! The details were amazing the friendship and the loyalty was beautiful . First book by this author that I've read and I can say I will definitely be reading more from him !!!
This book was filled with action from start to finish and I loved it! Very intricate, meticulous, well versed and thoroughly thought out and executed! Brilliant work as usual!
When I started this book, I wasn't sure if I would like or even finish reading. I'm glad I continued. I got hooked and couldn't wait to read book 2, which I'm reading now.
This book was everything and then some. I could imagine each scene, vividly, as I read through the chapters. It made you stop and think about things from a whole different perspective. The details that went into the story had me wondering if the author actually experienced some of the things he wrote about. Dr. Bennett was a very strong man for maintaining throughout all of the obstacles thrown his way. We all need a good friend like Timothy. This was a great book. Good job!
