Lone Pine Pride #3

Hawk's Revenge

Rate this book
Her betrayal is unforgivable. But their passion? Unforgettable.

Hawk-shifter Adrian Sokolov made the mistake of trusting the beautiful Dr. Rachel Russell once—and wound up drugged, captured, and experimented on inside Organization Labs.

He isn’t about to make the same mistake again, but when she offers to help him escape this hell hole, he can’t say no. Her only condition? That he take her with him.

From the moment Rachel discovered her bosses’ true intent, she’s been secretly smuggling shifters out of the Labs. But now the higher-ups suspect they have a mole, and it’s time to flee—but not before she frees the golden-eyed hawk she was forced to betray.

When their escape goes wrong, Adrian wakes, confused and alone, in the safety of the Lone Pine Pride infirmary and realizes he may have left behind the one ally the shifters had within the Organization—the same breathtaking woman who invades his dreams.

Now he must face the Organization that destroyed him… before she pays for his freedom with her life.

Warning: This book contains betrayals, escapes, rescues, plots, double-crosses, a sexy surly hero, a heroine who deserves sainthood… and a pride full of trouble.

Hawk's Revenge is the first book I've read in the Lone Pine Series and it worked as a standalone even though it's the third in the series. This book is well-written and well-edited; two things that should be givens when it comes to professionally pubbed books but, sadly, isn't always the case.

I enjoyed the relationship between the hero and heroine. Their obstacles kept their evolving relationship interesting right along with the conflicts inside the suspenseful plot. I liked how they had real obstacles to overcome beyond the usual, shallow misunderstandings and irrational emotional responses I've been seeing as prevalent plot devices for adding conflict recently.

My only complaint is I knew who the villain was for most of the story and found it aggravating the characters didn't figure it out until the last minute. This complaint is really a testament to the strength of the characters because I felt they were capable of the critical thinking required to deduce who and where the villain was way earlier than they did.

I'm giving Hawk's Revenge a 4 out of 5 and will be looking for the other books in the series very soon.

This is the third book in this new shifter series and yet agan we are transported to those who live amongst the Lone Pine Pride but this time we catch up with the newest member Adrian Socolov who was previously discovered near death after escaping from the Organistion. The Organistion are a secret group of humans determined to eradicate all shifters and it was only with the help of one of their scientists Dr Rachel Russell that Adrian managed to evade recapture but Adrian has memories of Rachel organising his torture so when plans are formed to break into the laboratory he's determined to find Rachel and discover the truth.
What I particularly like about this series is the fact that the action and storyline runs simultaneously . We first met Adrian in the last book Taming the Lion and parts of that storyline are reprieved here which makes for great continuity . What Adrian, a hawk shifter has gone through whilst held in captivity is truly harrowing and to cap it all he is now left without the ability to shift. Rachel had prior to his incarceration been involved in a relationship with him but she betrayed him and helped to capture him but all is not that straightforward. Rachel truly believed that her actions were for the best but sometimes we make decisions that come back to bite us where it really hurts!
This is perhaps not as steamy as some of the other books by this author as more time is spent on the relationship between the hero and heroine although they are a passionate couple. I have to be honest and say although I enjoyed the story I did feel that at times both of the couple were just a little too introspective for my liking. However in this instalment it's quite plain the the Organisation are about to step up ther efforts in the war that's brewing and Lone Pine Pride will need all the allies they can get.
As usual this book was really well written with great dialogue . A tortured hero and a heroine who is full of gumption will always tick my boxes and a happy ending makes for a satisfying read. I'm curious just who will feature in the next book and will certainly look out for it. Id recommend this to those readers who enjoy a shifter romance set in a very well thought out world that's always full of surprises.

Genre: paranormal Romance
My first visit to Lone Pine, although this is the third book featuring it and the people around it. It sets out what I think would happen if paranormal creatures/people were real – we’d be seeing them as less than human, more like animals and using science and the utilitarian benefit argument as an excuse for some horrific experiments, and keeping people in captivity. We’re a cruel lot we humans, well some anyway, and we already find that many disabled people are regarded as “Less” sadly.
Rachel struggled with what she did, but wanting to continue helping the captured shifters escape she told herself Hawk would be captured anyway by the Organization. Adrian can’t forgive her betrayal though, even though six months later she helps him escape. She wanted to leave with him, but that didn’t happen and now she’s under suspicion and trapped, unable to escape. She managed to give him key info though on the Organization, and armed with that the shifters need to try hitting back, knowing their targets better.
Its a great read, full of very real drama and emotion. I so felt for Rachel, but also for Adrian. He understands inside himself what she did and why, but can’t forgive that she didn’t tell him, at least give him a choice. I can understand that – I wondered too why she didn’t trust him, but then of course the whole book would change! .Added to which he believes that she aided in his torture while in captivity. If they are to get back their love and romance she needs to convince him she didn’t, but he can’t forgive or forget what he believes he heard. Adrian is a great lead, full of inner strength, but a solitary type. As a Hawk he’s been working with the Lone Pine Pride, consisting of mixed shifters but mostly Cats of some type. There are some that believe Rachel is a part of the Organization and not to be trusted, who would kill her if given the chance, and others who revere her as a hero for all she’s done in rescuing so many. Adrian thought he was in love until she turned him in, and now he’s angry that he still has feelings for her, he doesn’t want them but can’t seem to stop them. When she’s under threat from some of the shifters though he appoints himself her captor and protector, and that gives Rachel a faint hope that all may eventually work out.
Its a read full of drama; escapes, captures, threats and hatred, love and loving. a real mixed bag of plots that meld together to form a brilliant read. I want to read more from Lone Pine!

Hawk's Revenge is #3 in the Lone Pine Pride series and another good shifter outing for Vivi Andrews.
I really enjoyed #2 Taming the Lion, Roman and Patch's story romped along with humour, hotness and bags of sexy so I was interested to continue the series. Adrian and Rachel have a completely different pace and feel to their story but it works well, the inclusion of all the other characters we have previously met is something I love, it's always nice to see how couples are getting on, looking for clues for future pairings and then of course there's Dominic, he's a breed apart in every sense!!
I usually prefer the lions, tigers, bears and wolves with my shifters as I like a certain type of build in my fantasy men, tall, huge and rugged so for me to enjoy Adrian, a lean Hawk shifter, as much as I did was a surprise in a way, shallow but truth! He has a lovely tortured broodiness to him that I liked and was drawn to, his battle with his conflicted feelings for Rachel was an engaging read and as a couple they worked, not as 'in your face' hot and steamy as the previous two but more a slow burn emotional grabs you.
There is a lot going on in this instalment, The Organization and Lone Pine Pride are on a collision course and this is being staged and developed throughout this book leading towards the next. Trust is a huge issue between Rachel and Adrian given how her betrayal led to his capture even though it was for the greater good. The complexities of how and why they met, the betrayal and its consequences makes you feel a whole heap of sympathy for both of them and hope for a HEA. While the villain and what was going to happen may have been blatantly obvious I was at no point bored or disinterested, as I said the pace is different but suits the story perfectly.
This is a good shifter book, an excellent addition to the series and I am looking forward to much more from Dominic, he intrigues me, and from Grace who is so kickass and funny I want to be her!
Warning: This book contains betrayals, escapes, rescues, plots, double-crosses, a sexy surly hero, a heroine who deserves sainthood… and a pride full of trouble.
^^^^^ yep and I want more please……………………….

Adrian trusted Dr. Rachel Russell once and ended up captured by the Organization but she helped him escape and now he must face the Organization that destroyed him before she pays for his freedom with her life in this thrilling paranormal romance.

Rachel did what she had to in order save not only shifter’s lives but most importantly his and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the emotionally gripping turmoil that surrounds Rachel and Adrian and they struggle with overwhelming feelings along with their undeniable desires. The attraction between Adrian and Rachel burns hot enough to scorch the mountains but with everything that has happened between them and deceptions at play this couple will have to work extra hard to forgive and forget. The strong compelling characters capture the heart and the fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with lots of suspense, action and passion.

There is never a dull moment as the Pride takes action against the evil Organization with lots of danger and tension as emotions and tempers run hot throughout the shifters as they want to hurt those who hurt them. When it comes to Rachel, Adrian’s protective instincts are overwhelming despite his mistrust which is a good thing because some of the shifters see her as an enemy. The well written scenes and details paint vivid images that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated suspense and excitement ensures that the reader can’t put the story down.

The fascinating world that the author has created draws the reader in and keeps their full attention until the very end with captivating characters and interesting elements. Once again, I was completely spellbound by the Lone Pine Pride and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

I just finished the most recent book by Vivi Andrews, and she really does deliver every time I check out her work. I love the Karmic Consultants series, and she writes fabulous paranormal romance. The latest book in her Lone Pine Pride series is definitely in the paranormal romance category with its steamy, shifter goodness. The investment that the author has put into the series has rendered an interesting assortment of compelling characters and a lasting storyline that weaves throughout the series. If you are jumping into the series with this book, go for it, but you are missing out if you do not go back and check out the previous books in the series!

After escaping the Organization after months of torture which followed the ultimate betrayal of an intense love interest, Adrian is definitely not himself. The new person that life has turned in him into has a short list of necessities, with revenge at the very top. The Hawk wants the Organization crushed, and he wants the object of his betrayal brought low…or does he? Wires are definitely crossed somewhere along the information and emotion lines, and doctor Rachel Russell has ran out of luck after helping so many shifters escape. Hawk is her one regret and the last shifter she assists to freedom before losing her own.

Will Hawk find Rachel before the Organization repays her for working against them? Will Rachel be able to help Hawk see through the pain to what they could have together?

I loved the book! Check out the series and the author. I have two other reviews for this series that you can check out on my site: Taming the Lion and Jaguar’s Kiss.

"5 out of 5 stars! The Lone Pine Pride Series, with all of its novels including "Hawk's Revenge," are a spin-off from Ms. Andrews’ Serengeti Shifters Series and while each of the novels are all connected very closely, because of the way the background plot of the series runs, readers can expect them to be stand-alone-ish novels.

For the past four years, Rachel has been a fertility scientist working for the Organization and during that time, she has secretly organized shifters to escape. Six months ago, the Organization became suspicious of her and her relationship with Adrian (Noah/Hawk), a hawk shifter who she was sort of dating and helping her get the shifter escapees further away than they could by themselves. So, for the sake of all her plans and the escapees she allows the Organization to capture Adrian, and in the end herself too. Recently she has gotten Adrian released from the compound but will that personal betrayal between them be easy to overcome? Will Adrian understand why she did what she did to him and go back to save her too? Was what they shared together even real or just a lot of pent up lust? So many questions and lies between them, with so little time will they be able to get the closure they need or will everything fall apart?

OH MY GOD!! I WAS ADDICTED TO THIS NOVEL FROM THE VERY BEGINNING..."

Hawk's Revenge (Lone Pine Pride) I received a digital copy in exchange for an honest review from Samhain. I totally have to read the first books in this series because it totally kicks ass. I absolutely loved Hawk's Revenge, its fantastic. Vivi Andrews does a well enough job filling in readers on the backstory so that readers new to the series can understand and follow along with the plot easily enough without being too lost. I am so thrilled that Adrian and Rachel finally get the confrontation and the resolution I anticipated. Hawks Revenge is full of mystery and suspense and a unique spin on paranormal romance that you don't usually find in stories such as these. Adrian and Rachel are steamy and sweet and I like the dynamic of their personalities clash as they learned and opened to one another and found through their trials that there was more than met the eye in each of them. I love all the sweetness and the romantic interaction it totally melts the heart.

This shapeshifter story with a difference is a great read. We meet an avian shifter who has been captured by a shadowy force which is experimenting on shifters. This hawk man is being held in a cell in a remote facility and one of the Organisation doctors present was responsible for his capture.

The lady doctor had actually been freeing shapeshifters but to keep her cover she was obliged to trap Hawk. Now she knows he is under suspicion and her time may be short so she is determined to free him before leaving. Only, he obviously doesn't trust her anymore, and even if she does get this ill man out, where can they go?

I enjoyed the well-realised adventure which is full of tensions and challenges. This is an adult romance (which takes time to get going, given the barriers) and contains strong language which comes across as natural in context. Hawk's Revenge incorporates other well-written types of shifter such as black bears and lynxes, so not the average werewolf story.

third book in series. Rachel, a human forced to work for The Organization that kidnap shifters to experiment on them has been secretly helping many escape.Adrian a Hawk shifter has been helping also but gets captured and tortured. Rachel and Hawk have to find a way back to each other once they are recused and together in Lone Pine Pride. Enjoy the fact that the other couples from first two books are included in this story.

Another good read. I really felt The Hawk's frustration and inability to trust again after his captivity. Although I do believe a little more grovelling was called for ;) There were some other interesting characters who's stories were fleshed out a little more. Hopefully this will lead to some more books in this series. Looking forward to a handsome young computer geeks HEA.
