Book 2 of The Convent Series

Grief is a ghost. Magic is a curse. And some secrets are buried alive.

Camille returns to New Orleans under the guise of Sister Catherine, seeking refuge within the walls of the Ursuline convent under Spanish rule. But the city offers no sanctuary. Fires rage across the city, unrest simmers in the streets, and she is tested by war in the Battle of New Orleans. Yet the most dangerous threat lurks within the convent itself.

To protect the girls entrusted to her care, Camille must embrace the divine providence she once feared and journey to Haiti, where ancient practices and sacred protections promise power—but demand conviction. Even newfound power cannot shield those she loves.

As the truth of Peri’s past begins to surface—entwined with the legends of Marie Laveau and Jean Lafitte—the veil over New Orleans’ history lifts. What emerges is not the story history tells, but the one it tried to bury—where Jean Lafitte’s charm masks cruelty, and Marie Laveau’s shadow hides sanctity. Peri hunts evil. She delivers justice where the law refuses to tread. And she demands payment in blood.

Meanwhile, the power rising within Mac isn’t just an awakening. It is a stepping into herself and a remembering of the soul’s true calling—her VOCATION. Mac must embrace her shadows—both gift and curse. Healing comes only when comfort is abandoned, and nothing worth reclaiming comes without consequence.

In a city built on ghosts and shadowed by its own sins, healing is never gentle. It is forged in fire, carved from silence, and sometimes written in blood.

Not all healing is light and love. Some healing comes from death and darkness.

I've always had a creative streak and have managed to find blank canvases everywhere in life. Whether I’m designing and sewing clothes, planting a garden, dressing a window, or concocting something in the kitchen, I find joy in all of it—except baking. I'm terrible at following instructions.

After going through my own spiritual journey, it's no surprise that I found writing to be a therapeutic way to express myself. And so, Convent was born.

Layering letters on a blank page is a new medium for me, but I like to think I’ve always been a storyteller. I believe everyone has a story to share, and it’s our individual life journey to discover the best way to tell it. Through the work we do and the careers we choose, the art we create and the music we make, or the children we raise—our souls leave their lasting impression on the world. I hope you enjoy the small dent I’ve made.

I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest, voluntary review.

“How ironic that the crimes of my past became my future career, earning me a place to fight foreign espionage.”

This book was unlike anything I’ve read before (in the best way). It weaves together religion, spirituality, and witchcraft while exploring the tension of how those belief systems can coexist, especially for women trying to find meaning and autonomy within them.

Layered with themes of agelessness and the suppression of women in the 17th–18th centuries, the story highlights what it meant to live under the “grace” of men while still carving out quiet, powerful ways to influence the world. The multiple timelines and POVs bring depth, following different women as they uncover their talents, purpose, and destiny. Each one stands strong in her own right, and I loved that sense of resilience threaded throughout.

It’s thoughtful, unique, and carries a quiet intensity that sticks with you.

I really enjoyed this one.

I plowed through this book. I really enjoyed the historical nature of the story and the dual timelines. I loved getting to know more of the backstory behind some of the characters, the way the author used Louisiana culture and brought in some historic southern figures really made the story feel rich. But, most of all I loved the growth that the FMC went through. I can’t wait to read the third book!

Color me bewitched! I enjoyed this witchy read! I loved the references to Marie Laveau!! I especially liked how the witchcraft was intertwined with Religious practices! I’m not religious; however, the correlation is pretty accurate for a fictional novel! Another plus…. For me….. is the great grandmother and I share a name!!!! My “legal” name!! No, I do not know this author and yes…. I have a very uncommon name!! That was the coolest ever!!! Certainly a good read if you like all things witches and a retelling of some history in a fictional space!!! Some parts of the book had me saying… “swear”…. You can tell Kerri put a lot of research, thought, and time into this book with all of the references!!! I will be adding this to my “trophy shelf”! 10/10 recommend!

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had been looking forward to reading it after really enjoying the first book in the series (Convent: Inception). This book did a great job of picking up where the first book left off. I was just as engaged in the characters and captivated by the storyline. I love knowing that the author did her due diligence in researching the historical figures included in the story as well as the history of New Orleans. The book is extremely well written and even though there are multiple storylines, they are cohesive. If you enjoy reading about witchcraft, historical fiction and women on journeys of self growth, I would highly recommend this book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.

4.5 stars!! Bravo on the 2nd book in this debut trilogy!!! 🥂

I really dig the historical aspects and all the learning through the chapters and Mac learning her history. It’s like i get to learn and enjoy the book at the same time. The build up through the different POVs and the different time frames is brilliant. I also love the quirky remarks Mac makes, she keeps things fun.
