This was a fun, fast-paced adventure! Sam is a very relatable character and the author makes you feel his emotions as he twists through this story. I enjoyed the vivid imagery as Sam was introduced to each new character, all of whom have great potential for future development. My favorite part involved the pirates. I hope you agree. The conclusion left me anxiously awaiting a sequel.

12-year-old Sam has inherited the recessive adventure-loving gene, which positions him firmly as the beloved black sheep in his delightfully square (we are talking, funny in their boringness, reminiscent of a spoof on a 50s TV family) family. Good thing his mysteriously-vanished grandfather left him a mysterious box before his birth, to help him add a little excitement to his life.

You have the adventure of pirates, giant spiders, and a secret society. Woven throughout though is Sam's wonderfull

Full disclosure, I received after winning a contest posted by the author on twitter. I listened to this on Audible.

Sam is a kid with a younger brother and parents who are bland, somewhat controlling and protective, and very much into routine. He, of course, loves super hero stories and yearns to be extraordinary. For his twelfth birthday, he finds an old box in the old barn on his grandma's farm with his name on it left by his now deceased grandpa.

Strange things start happening, he is transport

Sam is an ordinary boy with an ordinary life. Or so he thinks. When he goes into an old barn and finds a hat box, all that changes. He is transported into another place where he has to battle pirates, tribal warriors, spiders, and ultimately face an evil villain. He soon learns that he is far from ordinary, and that although he doubts his abilities, he still has what it takes to do amazing things.

This fast-paced, imaginative story is perfect for middle grade readers who love adventure.

The only thing extraordinary about Sam Miller is his imagination. His parents are the nicest and most boring people on earth. His house is boring and his little brother is boring. Even his beloved golden retriever is boring. So Sam imagines adventures for himself and dreams of a day when his life will be exciting.

That day happens when Sam and his family visit his grandmother’s farm. He explores the barn and discovers an old box with his name on it. It is birthday present from his grandfather wh

Extraordinary Sam and The Adventurers' Guild is a whirlwind story about a boy who wants to ride the wind of destiny from his boring life into great adventure. Peppered seamlessly with vivid daydreams that start to blend with reality, this book will reach out and seize the imaginations of all middle grade readers. There is never a dull moment with Sam, and his normal life is colored by his creative interpretation that turns the page into a visual tapestry. Of course, this is all thanks to Springe ...more

Such a fun adventure! Really great character; I forgot the time a few times reading this... :-) Perfect for your summer reading list, if you need a MG adventure (and who doesn't?).

I'll look forward to this author's next book. A very promising debut.

Think you lead a boring life? Be careful what you wish for because you just might get more than you bargained for!
Sam's birthday brings more excitement than he ever imagined, but is he up to the challenge?

Kevin A. Springer grew up on a farm in Maryland where his imagination knew no limits. As a husband and father, he reconnected with his creativity while telling bedtime stories to his two young boys. One such story evolved into his debut book, Extraordinary Sam & the Adventurers’ Guild (March 2015, Bookfish Books LLC.), which tells the tale of an ordinary boy who finds a hatbox and discovers a worl ...more
