Rate this book
The Boundary . The greatest feat of magic in the history of Madryn. An impenetrable barrier raised to imprison the Darklord Lorthas and end the centuries-long MageWar. Now, the Boundary is weakening and the Darklord's shadow hovers over the land of Madryn. The Alliance of the Four Races is no more, the once-mighty Magi have been driven into hiding, and the only chance for victory lies in overcoming centuries of animosity and fear. At the request of Alwellyn the Eternal, an Alrendrian delegation is en route to Lynnaei, the mythical capital of the Aelvin Empire. While Prince Martyn and the aging Lord Iban struggle to reopen trade with the reclusive Elves, the King's ward, Jeran Odara, meets secretly with the Emperor to gain his support in the upcoming war with the Darklord. And the ex-slave Dahr, barred access to Illendrylla, travels the Tribal Lands in search of the Garun'ah, long time allies of Alrendria. But the forces of evil have not been idle. Tylor Durange, exiled Prince of Ra Tachan, has returned to claim his throne; Salos' ShadowMagi scour the land, seeking allies and sowing dissent; and even the Darklord, long believed trapped behind the Boundary, has found a way to access the minds of those most loyal to Alrendria.

If you liked Lord of the Rings, you will LOVE this trilogy. This is the second book - the first is called Path of Glory. The author paints a new world for the readers that is hard to pull yourself out of and provides a depth in his characters that helps you connect to each one, even those who are seen as villains.

This is my favorite of the three completed Boundary's Fall books. The characters grow in unexpected and wonderful ways. Some of the moments in this book are so touching and tender which I was not expecting from an such an epic storyline in the middle of preparing for and fighting a huge battle. I read this one even more slowly than first, purposefully making the excitement and tenderness last.

Even more absorbing than the introductory book of this series, the plotline really ramps up in this one. I loved the depiction of Lynnaei and Aelvin society. Full of adventure, romance, and friendship.
