This is a really fabulous book and I'm excited to use it as a guide to teach students how to network. In the past I've focused on changing students' perspectives of networking from being about schmoozing and asking for things to being interested in people. However, I didn't include a whole lot of specifics about exactly how to network, beyond just asking questions. This book provides a specific outline of how to structure a meeting and what types of things to talk about (and not talk about) while allowing for flexibility in exactly what is discussed.
I love how easy to read and follow this book was. It breaks down a networking meeting into real, actionable steps that makes the idea of networking less daunting. My only (small) criticism is that the first half of the book, which aimed to convince readers that networking is vital for all professionals, seemed to ramble and repeat itself quite a bit. Even so, it was still a quick read despite containing an enormous amount of helpful information. This is absolutely a must read for anyone looking to accelerate their career.
The career center at my college suggested this book. It's easy to read, logical, and engaging. It helps demystify the networking process, and while I have yet to try the techniques, they have given me more confidence in reaching out to new or casual contacts. Very helpful for establishing professional relationships with great, common-sense tips for maintaining them.
Some good tips, but authors overstretched the material that could have been adequately communicated in a pamphlet. Also, I could not get over the many cringeworthy, blatant errors that apparently slipped the editor's notice.
