It is always fun to check this long-lived publication out each year. It gets one's mind back on baseball. I have been purchasing these volumes since the early 1960s. They are much weightier now than then! With many more pages of text.
I enjoy just randomly flipping through the pages and seeing which player I might look at. First effort--pages 64-65. On page 64, we see Conor Gillaspie. He had a cup of coffee with San Francisco and has played with the Chicago White Sox for two years. Third baseman. Not much power but a decent player.
My favorite team is the Chicago White Sox. I was curious how Chris Sale's pitching record looked. He first played for the Sox in 2010, where he served as a relief pitcher (and was a reliever again in 2011). In 2012 he moved into the starting rotation. His ERA has been good. He is tall--and weighs only 170 pounds.
And on it goes. Ichiro Suzuki probably won't get to 3,000 hits--but his record is fascinating to observe (on page 173). He has a total of 2844 hits going into the 2015 season. Last year, in his 40s, he hit .284, which is pretty respectable!
All in all, another year, another Who's Who in Baseball. . . .
