Professor Rebecca Stanley-Wilson is having a very bad season. Her husband has just admitted to having an affair. And it was with one of her students.

Blame it on a desire for revenge (or way too much alcohol), she then has had one of her own. Unfortunately for her, her affair was with one of the great upcoming painters of his generation. The ramifications of that one torrid

"Permanent Spring Showers" - where to start...
I was meant to review this work two days ago, but unfortunately I am a little (a lot) behind in my reading and reviews (such is life....).
To make things worse, I am not a speed reader and do not / refuse to skim - I like to take in and savour every word.

At 472 pages this book was a tour de force as I had just over 36 hours to read it... but it was, oh, so worth it. Lately I have been incredibly fortunate to have read a string of very good b

What a ride this book was! I can honestly say it was an inspiring novel, and very unique! With a cast of lively, artistic characters and a spin so hard it will leave your eyes wide and jaw hanging until the very last word.
Each set of characters in this book all seems to be a part of a bigger plan, a movement, if you will. A variety of authors and artists alike are manipulating the people around them to achieve the bigger picture--even marriages aren't off limits in this scheme! The premise of th

Professor Rebecca Stanley-Wilson is out for revenge after her husband, Bob, admitted to having an affair with one of her students.

Determined that an eye for an eye is the best course of action (after a few drinks), Rebecca has the perfect opportunity when she meets up with Vince, a sexy up and coming artist, at a conference in Chicago, and thus their affair begins.

But can Rebecca and Bob live with the consequences of their actions?

This book is a heart-warming and thought-provoking tale about the

Rebecca's marriage is falling apart - her husband cheats on her with one of her students, and then while at a conference, she meets and has an affair with Vince. Everything begins to unravel shortly after their return because Vince becomes obsessed. As an artist, he finds inspiration in Rebecca and wants to hold onto it as long as possible. Meanwhile, a whole slew of other characters come in and out of the picture as they fall in and out of love and their lives unravel.

The beginning of the book

This book is about relationships and how couples deal with changes in their relationship. There are several scenarios happening in the book showing how the different relationships intertwine with each other. The point of view changes depending on the scenario. Portions of the book are journal entries by Jenn. The only confusing part for me was the change of the point of view. A few times I wasn’t sure who was telling the story.

The book begins with Rebecca and her husband Bob having a loud argume

The author have a strong clear style and huge talent. He wrote a clever and very romantic novel, that it will surprise you through the last word. Humor, warmth, love, wisdom, revenge, betrayal, lust, and desire fill the pages. The plots are interesting, thoughtful and very engaging. Southward's book includes themes about live honestly and authentically; how to make our own decisions and accept responsibility for them; how to develop our talents and gifts; how to find our passion and purpose; and ...more

I stand and slow clap. Wow, no words. An enthralling, fantastic read!

Marvelously wrought, Mr. Southard! What an awesome story, woven meticulously perfect until it all comes together where the reader and the actors of this story have their day of reckoning. It was one of those stories I could see read by an English Literature class and discussed for the many things it tells us about people, their motives, their fantasies, their obsessions, their human spirit. Mr. Southard, once again you have tak

It 's a brilliant novel, with the right amount of humor and romance, with really interesting characters and an intriguing and engaging plot.
Rebecca should be in seventh heaven: her book was finally published. But she has just discovered a cheating husband with one of her student and to the presentation doesn't even have a copy of her book to give. Fortunately meets Vince, a handsome boy and even her big fan. She spends with him one of the most fun and carefree evenings of her life and inevitably

Permanent Spring Showers is a fast moving tale of life, frustration, cheating spouses and consequences. As in real life, everyone seems to want something or someone they don’t have. Cheating is the tool they resort to getting what they think they want. The characters do not foresee the consequences of their actions, which are often long-lasting. More like a rock thrown into a pond that makes concentric circles to the edge.

Most readers will feel sympathetic toward Rebecca as she discovers her che

I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.

Southard was able to make me feel like I knew all of these characters without the drawn out description of them that bogs down a book and slows the story.
The fact that I felt I could have a place in this world, so different from my own, is part of the reason I really like this book.
I really don't want to go into the story because I'll get started and will keep going, that's how well the stories are woven together. I can't talk about one

Scott D. Southard fell in love with books when he discovered Middle Earth and Narnia as a child. That beginning grew into a passion for classic literature and any story that he can get truly lost in. He is the author of seven books, including A Jane Austen Daydream and Permanent Spring Showers. For many years, he was heard on National Public Radio as a regular contributor to WKAR's Current State w ...more
