After Mya revealed to Gavin- her husband to be- on their wedding night that she couldn’t marry him because she was in love with his brother, Derek, Gavin angrily stormed out of the house, only to be tragically killed in a car accident minutes later. That was five years ago, and both Mya and Derek still carry around guilt in their hearts over Gavin’s death. But one good thing came from that tragic situation- Mya’s son, who was conceived with Gavin before he died.

Over the years, Derek stepped up and helped Mya raise his nephew and, unable to hide his true feelings- that he’s still in love with her- he eventually asks Mya to marry him and adopts his nephew so that he wouldn’t grow up without a father. Happily married and having finally found real love, Mya’s dreams have finally come true; but it’s not happily ever after for the couple, just yet.

As Derek moves up the ranks at the record label he works at, Jasmine- one of his artists- develops more than just professional interests in him. No longer the cute 18 year old girl she was when Derek discovered her, she’s now a 23 year old sexy songstress, sought after by men everywhere- both personally and professionally; but she only has eyes for Derek. Derek thinks she’s harmless and it’s strictly business between them, but Mya knows what Jasmine is up to, and she’s not having it; however, will her jealousy and insecurity push Derek into Jasmine’s arms…and bed?

All really is fair in love and war, because Jasmine will go to any extreme to get Derek in her bed; and Mya will go to any extreme to keep him in hers.
May the best woman win.

My answers to questions

1. No. Suspicious maybe, but She played her role very well.
2. No. Insecurities are very dangerous and tricky. I’d ensure that every knot is tied on my end before I jump into that deep end.
3. For me it was close to the beginning. Any woman that plots that hard about taking someone’s man is definitely obsessed.
4. At the end of the day, when it’s meaningless, sex is just sex. We all fantasize sometimes. I don’t think he was at fault but he should’ve thought more logically (tracking, prints, the what-if factors)
5. I wouldn’t play the tit-for-tat game. I would never intentionally hurt someone I love just because they’ve hurt me. Meaningless sex is for single people, in my opinion. I’d rather leave before I cheat.
6. Yes you are.
7. Jasmine was obsessed. I think Mya really loves him. Her actions are not excuses though. She did some pretty foul things.
8. Is there a such thing as being both? I think she needs medical attention more than she does jail time.
9. Had she gone through with those plans to alter the result she would’ve been dead wrong. Everything that’s done in the dark comes to light. Derek would’ve eventually found out....as he did.
10. I do think it’ll change him. It’s always going to be a never ending cycle. These days women try to hurt/play men before men get a chance to do it to them. Makes this thing called love a sham. No one really believes in it the way they used to. #Sad

All Bets are off

This was very good and different. This time it was the dude getting done wrong. The end wasn't what I expected. I figured it would be a happy ending

Urban romance is totally new to me - I usually go for fluffy romance novels so it was a bit of a shock to my system! However, I enjoyed reading a new type of romance and it certainly kept me reading.

The title was perfectly chosen because in fact, all bets were truly OFF! There was a mix of lies, sex, swearing, twists, turns, deception, mistrust...you name it! There was truly never a dull moment.

I liked Derek the best out of all of the main characters and felt downright bad for him. I flat out hated Jasmine (crazier by the minute!) and Mya learned some very hard lessons. I had mixed feelings about her and she made some major mistakes.

There was a bit of a twist at the end and I was left wondering what happened next, although I understand why it was done that way and had me thinking about it long after I was done reading.

The main lesson to take from the story is that trust is a VERY important part of marriage (or any relationship). Without trust, it will not survive. Ditto for honesty.

Part two was so dramatic, this author is going to cause me to start smoking cigarettes with all the drama she delivered in this book!!!!! I was completely caught off guard and when an author can deliver a book where the plot twist just wow's you, you know you are reading a bomb book!
