Based in the Renegade Legion universe in the year 6800 this is a pretty simple war novel about tank combat. Decent world building, good technical aspects, character are pretty simple. A quick, fun read. Centers around the main character Lieutenant/Optio Karstil as he is shifted around the Commonwealth Army for various reasons and ending up in a combat role with the Renegade Legion. I thought the action was great, realistic tactics (for the most part) and enjoyed the aspect of intrigue. I read this because I like the Renegade Legion universe and wanted some stories from it. I enjoyed it so much I tracked down the other two books Peter Rice had written in that universe on eBay so I could read them too. If you like quick reads and war stories you should check this out.
