Mercy

Two killers. One mission. Zero mercy.

They were never meant to trust each other.
Let alone want each other.

Viper lives by control—command, discipline, rules that keep the world from burning down around him.

Titus is chaos sharpened into a weapon—lethal, unpredictable, and allergic to authority.

When their paths collide, it isn’t subtle.
It’s friction. It’s defiance. It’s a collision of power where neither man is willing to bend.
Every glance is a challenge.
Every fight is a test.
And every step closer blurs the line between hatred and hunger.

Forced into proximity and bound by a mission that doesn’t care what they want, Viper and Titus discover that the most dangerous enemy isn’t the threat closing in around them—it’s the pull they can’t outrun.

Because when desire ignites between two men who refuse to yield, mercy becomes the one thing neither of them can afford.
Or live without.

** Mercy is an enemies-to-lovers action romance and the third book in the Genesis Savage Warriors series. While this story stands on its own, the emotional depth and character arcs are best experienced by reading the series in order.

My favourite one so far

This instalment of Reece's latest undercover black ops group's adventures is the best so far.

The one thing that's slways strong on her writing is the characters themselves and in Viper and Titus she's crafted two really compelling men.

The plot itself isn't as insane as some of the others have been in previous books, but it's centred, yet again, on human trafficking.

I know it's a major crime globally, but I do wish that occasionally we'd get some variation in themes.

Still, there were a few twists in this tale that worked well and I found myself actively rooting for Viper and Titus to get onboard with the bonkers chemistry between them.

I wouldn't say this is a true enemies to lovers story though, they're more fractious than hating.

I’m a fan but this wasn’t the best by Knightley

I usually love Knightley’s books. I can’t get enough of love between two powerful people, especially if they start off as enemies. The thing is, there was no clear explanation for why our two heroes hated each other at the beginning. None at all. And there was no clear path in the development of feelings. One second they were hating each other for no reason and the next, there was an understanding that Titus belonged to Viper.
It’s also obvious to anyone who uses AI to write (and I do), that this book was written with help. AI loves to write several 1-3 word sentences in succession (call staccato prose) to stress something that is supposed to be poignant like this: “No panic patterns. No wild angles. Bodies neutralized where they stood. No unnecessary damage. Precision. A reckoning.” The repeated use of this literary device got old and annoying to me. It disrupted the flow of the story often and was used gratuitously without need many times.
And then another thing that AI loves to do is write metaphoric sentences that sound good but don’t make much sense within the context, like this: “…jaw flexing like he was grinding down a bad decision” and “…eyes flicking over the paperwork like he was cataloguing targets” and “…curls shoved back like he’d lost a fight with his own hair”. These got tedious, too.
I’m all for using AI to assist with the writing process, but we have to be the discerning eye that preserves our own writing voice and the authentic flow of our stories.
All this said, I’m still very much a fan of Ms. Knightley’s books. I hope to see better writing making a return in the near future.

An operator so far under even the DoD didn’t know. A triplet posing as an elusive human trafficker in order to take down his two brothers using their identical status to always have an alibi. An Army Colonel and his black ops group run by the Secretary of Defense, tasked with taking Titus down. Between them they were able to eliminate the threats before Titus was revealed as the “good guy” at the end of Gravity.
Now he is an assassin for the Erebus group and he and Viper are supposed to be on the same side. As head of Genesis, Viper still does not trust Titus, Titus still won’t take orders from Viper. Two powerful men who will not back down. But oh how the sparks fly whenever they are around each other. A simple witness transfer turns to a deadly race across the Arizona desert. A secret ops that Genesis is now excluded from. But Viper has no intention of letting Titus get away from him. And he will follow him to the ends of the earth to keep him.
I expected these two to clash. Viper controlled and in command and Titus a loner to the core. But where this went I certainly did not see coming. Watching these two transform in the halls of wealth and power? Brilliant. Up until 3am to read this all in one sitting? Yes and so worth it. So well done! Many, many stars.

Two killers, Viper and Titus, are thrown together on a mission where trust isn’t part of the deal. Viper is all control and discipline, while Titus is pure, unpredictable chaos — and when they collide, it’s explosive. Forced into close quarters, every clash between them blurs the line between hostility and desire. As danger closes in, they realise the real threat isn’t their enemies but the fierce pull growing between them. In a world where neither man yields, their hunger becomes as dangerous as their mission, and mercy is the one thing they can’t afford — yet can’t seem to escape.

I loved in this enemies to lovers story where what really stood out was the fierce respect and unwavering loyalty between Viper and Titus. For two men forged in violence and trained to trust no one, the way they instinctively protected each other is powerful. Their connection burns hot, but beneath the intensity is a deep, unexpected love that neither of them can walk away from. I loved watching that shift — from rivals to partners to something far more profound. Even with danger closing in from every direction, their priority becomes each other, every single time. It gives the story a beating heart beneath all the grit and action, making their bond as compelling as the mission itself. This was an MM story with mature content.

I really liked this story. The beginning was so fraught when Titus was left behind and you knew that he did not know that Viper was not to blame but realized that he was not but he also did not know that Viper had insisted on going back to rescue him. Viper was upset that Genesis was being cut out of an operation due to Titus's father's influence but of course he does get involved when it turns out to be an op to shut a sex trafficking ring involving very rich men. Reading about this made me think of Epstein and wishing that in real life the monsters were taken down. I was amazed when both Viper and Titus were born to wealth and dressed the part when they went to the club where the kids were being held. I was glad that the girls were rescued and that several abusers were taken out. Titus recognized a name of a man who seemed to be involved and he was an old family friend. The visit to his house revealed that he was being abused by his stepson, Miles, and that he was the true head of the ring. I was so horrified when Miles shot Titus but was so thrilled that Boston came up behind him and slit his throat. Wish that in real life the monsters who knew and supported Epstein would be taken out.

Viper and Titus are quite the surprise. Two alpha males at the top of their respective teams. When they are forced to work together they clash and sparks fly. The book starts off with a great action sequence and the theme continues throughout. Titus has a need to separate himself from his two evil brothers who have caused so much misery for Genesis and Erebus. Viper has mistrusted Titus since they first met. As they work together to bring down some of the sickest of monsters their secrets come to life and they must adapt their personas to bring down the target. All of this while falling in love. Their teams are highly involved and keep this story progressing while building to more books in the future.

Holy Toledo are these two hot together. Viper and Titus have clashed in the past and Vioer still wants to take a chunk out of him. When on an op for a witness transfer went sideways, Viper and Titus stuck together. When saved, Viper got hurt and Titus got left behind. Even with a concussion, Vioer took the team out to find him. Fast forward a few days and Titus is running an op with the YA team. When Vioer finds out, he goes to New York to see him. What follows is a great story of how they worked together to catch the baddie, how they started their relationship to their HEA. Cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

Viper the head of genesis and Titus a member of Erebus have a love hate relationship. Titus and Viper were thrown together for an op and things didn’t go as planned. Viper got hurt and Titus was left behind.

Titus feels betrayed by Viper and Viper is trying to make things right between them. Viper realizes Titus belongs to him and he will do anything to get him back. There are twists you never see coming. This is a crazy wild ride for Titus and Viper who are determined to get their happy ever after. What an awesome book.

Another Amazing One

Another amazing read in this series. I really enjoyed seeing both Viper and Titus together at last. Their background aside (I’m sorry but the billionaire story is overused and unbelievable) together they are quite the pair.

The background story and mission did not overshadow the relationship between the MCs and whilst I wished we actually saw their relationship develop more; overall it was well done.

Movie Material

Already pining for the next book in the series. Reese Knightley's books/series are all keepers. All the characters she writes are interesting, desirable, believable in this fantasy world. With the current fun brouhaha about hockey romance, all I could think about while reading Mercy was what a terrific streaming series this would make. All the stories of all the main characters, all the suspense, all the action and heat? Wow.

I've been waiting for Titus and Viper's book since they clashed in Gravity - Genesis Book 2.
Oh and they keep clashing. Until dire situations force them to work together and things start to change. 2 Alpha men who are always in control. Can they let go of their control and explore the feelings underneath?

Mercy

This was great follow up to Dave and Stone. These two characters never occurred to me. They made sense and needed each other. The really sad thing is just because this trafficking was stopped, another is still happening. Slavery is still occurring and in so many old and new ways. I really enjoy your books. I’ll keep reading them.

Did I enjoy the story? Yes, very much!!!
Did I have to go back and see who the heck Viper was? Sadly, also, yes. 🤦‍♀️🤣
Taking into account of my "old woman brain", one of these days I am going to learn to be patient and wait until the entire series is published and then do a series-readathon... grrr
