When I read the first chapter of Under His Protection, I was entranced. It’s like I was visiting a historical place at another era that is so different from my own timeline. Once I got past the second chapter, it made me crave for more.

Lady Greyland Kingston was really a lovable personality; she managed to make me smile because of her naiveté and casual outlook in life. It is obvious that she came from a noble line from the America who was quite liberated, compared to the conservative people of London. She’s like a wanton bride, not very typical of a lady, but very entertaining, nonetheless. No wonder the lads and men vied for her attention every now and then. I don’t blame Lord Alex Hamilton of Ravenswood for being so protective of her. He was every bit a hero and warrior in my eyes. I liked the vulnerability and sensitivity he showed when he had fallen in love with Lady Kingston.

I also loved the other men in the novel, like Perkin & Edward, both gorgeous men and dependable brothers and of course, there was Thomas, the ever gracious friend and comrade. Bella, Thomas betrothed, was a friend that I myself would like to keep, and Annabel, a girl I would like to take as my own. And there’s Socrates and Malikite, two creatures who played pivotal roles in their masters’ lives.

I really find Regency novels like Under His Protection very engaging, seductive and irresistible. The characters were easy to love and relate to, even though they belonged to the era where the women’s ball gowns were made of layers of corsets and petticoats while men were clad with greatcoats, cloak and broad-brimmed hats.

Reading Regency novels has always been one of the most delicious treats in literature, in my opinion. I always get delighted reading unusual terms enthused by the characters. Like for example in this novel, I encountered the word "ton". I thought at first, it was a misspelled word for town, but after I did some research, I learned that the author actually referred it to a set of people who possess the characteristics of being rich, fashionable and well mannered. Three characteristics that must all be possessed by a group. Oh, how very ingénue of me, if I might say so.

I really had a wonderful time reading this debut from the talented Stacy Von Haegert. Her writing was quite exceptional and superb. She kept me intrigued and entertained all throughout, with her character’s vivid descriptions and believable personalities. I couldn't believe this is her maiden novel! I thought she can be the next Lisa Kleypas or Johanna Lindsey and I couldn't be more proud! I highly recommend this masterpiece to everyone who loves to read Regency love stories. ...more

Stacy Von Haegert's takes a new freshness on a historical fiction and makes into a storyline that will intrigue any book reader! I don't read a lot of romance unless there's an intrigues that pulls me in. I must admit the story does grab you from the first page and leaves you wanting more. I really enjoyed this story and the twist on the lost princes of the tower. I liked the intrigue of generation still fighting for the crown. Grayland and Alex were a great couple.

My first from Stacy Von Haegert and most definitely not my last, Under His Protection is WONDERFUL! With all the rumblings of success wrt Bridgerton and Sanditon, I have to admit that I do love this time period in history and with this book I was thrust right back to the early 1800's England. But what sets this book apart from the others is the idea that an American-bred family with deep royal lineage can be the stars of the show, happily taking the residents of high society by storm and doing i My first from Stacy Von Haegert and most definitely not my last, Under His Protection is WONDERFUL! With all the rumblings of success wrt Bridgerton and Sanditon, I have to admit that I do love this time period in history and with this book I was thrust right back to the early 1800's England. But what sets this book apart from the others is the idea that an American-bred family with deep royal lineage can be the stars of the show, happily taking the residents of high society by storm and doing it with a grace that is clearly lined with a bit of mayhem and mischief along the way.

I love these Kingston siblings. Sure they know their place but the fact that their father traveled the world them in tow, meant they learned more than most should have. Perkin and Edward know their roles as oldest and middle. But it's Greyland as their dear younger sister who is at the forefront of their lives and who decidedly keeps them on their toes almost daily. Her spirit is unmatched and the way she can be an elegant dancer of the waltz one minute and expert fencer the next made me smile. She could have been this spoiled princess but instead she is caring, loyal, and sympathetic to those who are less fortunate. She doesn't hesitate to do what she wants when she wants, whether or not the world around her agrees. When Alexander Hamilton suddenly enters her life, Greyland is tossed even further into a whirlwind and there is no guessing just how he will change her life.

The fiery American and the handsome rake. Truly a match made in heaven, Greyland and Alex know just how to 'tame' the other with just a look and yet when alone they are unbridled desire that neither knew existed. They manage to thwart any other interest in Greyland which leads to uncovering a plot against the Kingstons, Alexander, and the Crown itself! There is plenty of action and plenty of passion, whether it is for each other or for the evil that lurks in some they may be closest to. But in the end, it's the 'normalcy' that the Kingstons embody that is the most endearing component of this book. They treat each other with kindness and pure love which is in stark contrast to how they should act during this period in time when everyone seemed stuffy, uncaring, and cruel. They are truly a breath of fresh air and I could see why the Queen herself was completely enamored! I was right there with her.

Under His Protection is extremely well-written and Von Haegert masterfully combines a truly charming love story with the darkness of English politics beautifully. Her use of an American family at the forefront is unique and gave this story the freshness others lack. Brothers Perkin and Edward will be getting their stories told next and I look forward to more of this engaging family and the adventures they can't seem to avoid despite their best intentions.

A must-read that I thoroughly enjoyed, I happily give Under His Protection a huge 5 stars! ...more

Normally I do not read (and I have never reviewed a romance novel) but I must say I was quite surprised with Stacy Von Haegert’s take on historical fiction, and/or romance (the historical fiction was the part that intrigued me I'm a big history geek and often read historical fiction) I must admit the story does grab the reader from the first page I mean let's be honest what could be better than opening a story with a brawl between two noblemen in an English gentleman's club that result in the in

Normally I do not read (and I have never reviewed a romance novel) but I must say I was quite surprised with Stacy Von Haegert’s take on historical fiction, and/or romance (the historical fiction was the part that intrigued me I'm a big history geek and often read historical fiction) I must admit the story does grab the reader from the first page I mean let's be honest what could be better than opening a story with a brawl between two noblemen in an English gentleman's club that result in the inevitable challenge of pistols at dawn to restore lost honor (as a male reader I was slightly disappointed that the deal was called off at the last second by a third party for a very intriguing reason...). However this did not slow the pace of the story.
As Alexander the Duke of Ravenswood arrives in London in 1838 he quickly finds himself lost in the vortex that is Greyland Kingston "Grey" is so bewitching. The first time Alexander catches a glimpse of her. He practically forgets his own name, he is so taken aback by her, in fact, that he begins to consider giving up his globetrotting rakish ways. Particularly after the seeing her dance at a ball held by Queen Victoria, Alexander has never seen anyone dance like that. It has almost a Grey is floating two inches above the ground. After this moment, Alexander is keenly aware of a feeling that his destiny is going to be forever intertwined with that of Greyland Kingston and that sentiment will definitely be put to the test. The Duke of Ravenswood will have to be willing to risk everything to protect not only Grey but, one of London's all-time great mysteries surrounding King Henry VII and the possibility that his bloodline may have continued further than initially anticipated... the members of the royal court are abuzz with the fact that the younger members of the Grayland family bear a striking resemblance to the late Duke of York... duel with pistols

While it is indeed true that this is a distorted romance (and yes these scenes are quite steamy). They are not merely gratuitous layout to the emotional level of the story and serve a very definite purpose in the plot development and psychological depth of the characters. There is also plenty of action and humor to offset the more grown-up aspects of this story. And I must admit, it is extremely well written, and Stacy Von Haegert will definitely have an illustrious writing career, regardless of the genre she pursues.

Under His Protection drew me in from the first page and did not let up till the end. I was so wrapped up in the story that when it did end I was wishing I could go live with the characters in Northern England at the Castle and have those gallant men take care of me.

Lady Kingston (Geyland) is the lady all the men want to court. She is unlike any women in England in the 1800's. She can hold her own against any man. She also learned from her brothers how to do anything a man can do.
Greyland's Brothers- Perkin is the oldest. He is the strong silent type. He is the leader of the three sibblings. Edward the middle child is the trouble maker of the bunch, if he could make a living running his mouth and using his sly ways he would have it made.
Alexander the Duke of Ravenwood seems to have been able to do what no one else has and capture the attention of Lady Kingston. The Duke must clean up his playboy ways and become a gentleman if he wants to keep her attention.

The Kingston Family travels alot so there children are well educated. They decide to settle in England. Due to there ancestry people believe they can upset the crown. Who will save the Kingstons? Well our hero of course Alexader The Duke of Ravenwood. He has pledged to protect the family because of his love for Lady Kingston.

Will Alexander who has no intentions of being betrothed fall in love? What will it take for him to protect Greyland? Does she steal the heart of the Duke of Ravenswood? How does the Queen know of Greyland?

If you like Jane Austen you will love the writings of Stacy Von Haeger. Her debut novel will not disappoint. This was an all around fantastic read. This book evokes all emotions with a mysterious twist. ...more

Are you looking for a historical romance book that delivers on romance? Hot leading men? Whitty, somewhat bratty heroines? Then you want to read this book.
Greyland makes me laugh. Her sense of doing what is right, mixed with her tendency to cause a little trouble when she can pulled me to her. I love how she knows what she wants and doesn't let the fact that she has two older brothers, stop her from having fun and being who she is.

Under his Protection was Stacy's first published book, I rated it a 5 star story but a 3 star edit. I averaged them together and give it 4.25 stars. The story has a good pace, slow enough at times to let you fall in love with the characters personality and fast moments that make your eyes move faster too.

First, in the interests of full disclosure, Under His Protection isn’t what you’d call my typical read, but I kind of got roped in by my wife, who couldn’t put it down.

What appealed to me about it was the historical tie-in as I do like historical fiction, like WEB Griffin, though Von Haegert’s book is not truly in this vein either. What she does do surprisingly well, especially as I think this is her first published book, is mix up various genres and make this appeal to many touch points.

Stacy wrote something that will mesmerize you, at first I didn’t wanted to read this one but once started it I just couldn’t stop. Set in London back in 30’s the characters show very natural and real, loved it how little conversations explain so much and at the same time leave a mystery behind. Very beautifully written and interesting side is shown of woman in that era. I don’t have to say more about the book don’t want to spoil the story.

Under His Protection is a beautifully written historic romance. Von Haegert's imagery in describing the period setting of the novel is very well done. Greyland is such an entertaining character and I fell in love with her immediately. Smart, feisty, intelligent and brave she immediately caught Alex's attention. Alex, a very attractive and eloquent man who has to risk everything to protect Greyland.

Let me start by saying that I typically don't read historical romance but this book may have just changed my mind:) There is something romantic and sexy about a lady being courted by her intended. I found myself drawn to Greyland, her protective brothers and their family secret.

I don't generally give books less than a 3, but I guess there is a first time for everything. First, though- this story had a great premise, and the solution to the old historical mystery was well thought out and plausible. I did, for the most part, like the characters and those two things are what kept me reading.

Greyland is a stubborn highbrow lady who wants to do things her way. Alexander falls for her stubbornness and unique personality. The two combined are like a bottle rock setting off. But with jealously lies and deception around ever corner will they get their happy ending?

Under his protection is a historical romantic thriller. It takes place in the period just when Queen Victoria had taken her place in the throne. And it revolves around one of the mysteries of the Royal Family.

After binging Bridgerton, and needing more, this book came at a good time. It was set in London in the 1830s, and surrounds a very interesting family and most importantly the daughter Greyland.
Greyland is an easy to love character, she is playful, stubborn, and a “spitfire” as her love interest calls her often.

Under his protection it’s a beautiful historic story from 1800 .
Greyland was a very spirited young women and was expected to be married within one year. Luckily for her, there was only one man who stole her heart from the first time she laid her eyes on him and Alex did everything under his protection so that nothing came between them.

This was a great story, true page turner from the start and I can’t wait to dig in the next in series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I mean it's just a few days, right? Anyway, I loved this book. It took the two main personalities I love and tossed them together. So what do you get when you cross a proper English duke with a spirited, independent American? A rip roaring good time that's what.

Picture this:
Duke Ravenwood and his second Thomas meet in an open field at the butt crack of dawn for a duel. The umm... person who is meant to show however is not present but his big brother is there in his place. He tries to reason and rationalize his younger brothers faults when from the shrubs burst forth this mad woman on an unsaddled horse. She is in disarray from her hair poked out in every direction to her dress not being properly fastened. Oh what a picture she painted!

This, of course is our heroine Greyland and it is her brothers that are on the chopping block as it were. She immediately steals Alex (Duke Ravenwood) attention and short to follow his heart. From standing up to Lady Chatsworth to wading through a fountain in her gown to save a bird he learns he will never meet another of her kind. Besides the budding romance there a sea of other characters who add to this lovely story. Greylands family alone made for good entertainmet to me. Greyland is preparing for a ball and her father Richard gives her a necklace that he had given her mother upon Greyland's blessed birth.

Her brother, Edward, asks What did you give mother on the day I was born? To which his brother Perkins answers you did not bless the world. More like introduced the Bubonic Plague. I loved the little moments like that that humanized her characters and made you love each one for their traits and personalities. Besides her family you also have Alex's and what is left of them could go either way. She adds a wonderful, evil villain which I loved. Oops! Did I say, " A, " villain? I meant there are several, there is however one who will stand out above the others and man is he rotten. I had a bad feeling about him early on but just waited.

There is also a lot of history that is thrown in the mix and I don't claim to be an expert but the Catherine story was accurate. Queen Victoria herself is in the book. Now for anyone who wants to know if there are actual love scenes....the answer would be yes but they are tasteful. There is also a kinky scene that you should be aware of but did not bother me. It is a well written book that captured my heart and I can't wait to read Edward's story.

I'll leave with one last part of the book, "You saved me!" Her voice shook." Your mother would be proud!" She grabbed his face with both her hands. " You're my hero, my protector, my love, my everything!" Enjoy!

Reading Under His Protection is my first experience with a romance novel, so I must confess I have no other medium to compare it to aside from the classic fiction I love. Therefore, this review will be based on what I imagine a romance novel is supposed to be.

If you ignore the grammatical errors throughout, this book is pretty much Julia-Quinn-esque historical romance novel, except that it is written with an over-arching story line to be continued with the female protagonist's brothers. While I do enjoy historical romance novels, this one seemed to confuse me at various points. I've never read a normal historical romance novel before. I've read time travel that takes them to the past, but I have a feeling that that is a lot different then what this book is going to be, but I was excited.

Greyland was in short a tomboy. I love how she wasn't into being proper and just lived life how she wanted too.

Alex was very respectable. I liked how charming he was. He was subtle but at the same time he wasn't. He is like any man out there, possessive of what he deems his.

I’m not sure I can write a good enough review that properly explains how much I loved this book! I’m usually wary of starting any historical romance series, because sometimes I’m reading too flowery language, or I am having the rules of society at the time of the story being shoved into my face, while boring me with a slow moving plot.
