The next book of the series! Backstreet Evolutionist (Book 5):
Mikhail was once an archmage, but now he’s just a young kid who has to start everything from scratch. The Academy, where he’s viewed as a weakling, becomes the arena for a fierce battle for survival. But someone who once conquered dragons and destroyed empires has an advantage – cold intelligence and strength that nobody expects from a rookie.
Awaiting readers in this volume are Mikhail’s first major encounters with a world where weakness is punishable by death. Not only does he find new allies, he also lays the foundations for his own legend. Here, every decision is a step toward greatness or ruin.
I received a review copy of this book. Backstreet Evolutionist book 4 is an interesting departure from the storyline so far. Attacks lead to a small group of children (including the main character) getting separated from the rest of the school population. How they manage to navigate the world and escape the chaos that brought on the separation is what this book focuses on, and while it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the main storyline, I'm sure it does in some way yet unknown, and it's certainly an interesting development in the character's history to be sure. Not at all where I would have guessed the story would go, but will definitely add some serious education for the characters as the later books unfold. Looking forward to it.
This addition to the series was really a continuation of the plot line trying to set up a new paradigm for the main character. It was fast-paced and still good and entertaining, but really a bridge addition to the story as there wasn't a lot of substance to the story, it just pushed the plot lines we knew was happening to the next phase. I look forward to book six.
The fourth book in the series was fast paced and kept my interest throughout, however, there were some some half finished and awkward sentences that could have used another look.
