When Hurricane Helix is announced to hit the Northeast corner of Florida, Corvun and his friends plan a party in an abandoned house on the coast. But danger blows in with the storm, and the group of friends is faced with a fight for their lives.
Tempest of Angels is a short story from Angels' Compass, an epic urban fantasy series about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and their plight to end the world.
Full disclosure: as someone who hasn’t yet read inheriting armageddon, I was intimidated by the glossary in the front matter. But don’t worry about it, you can totally read the story blind and then go back and read those definitions at the end, because you WILL be interested, i promise (i certainly was). For readers like me who haven’t finished IA, the number of characters and POVs can be overwhelming for a short story, but honestly just ride the wave and don’t worry too much about memorizing every name and role- this is a slice of a much bigger story and a window into the world.
The vibes are palpable and the setting is well-woven into the story. You can feel the Florida-ness. My favorite thing about this story is the writing at the “line level” if you know what I mean. The word choices. The descriptions. Everything feels natural and easy and real. There were moments when I was a little lost in the plot (for reasons aforementioned) but it didn’t matter in the end because i was still left wanting more. Last line was chef’s kiss. Parts of it reminded me of the way I felt reading twilight for the first time. Excited to get into IA now!!!
I was so lucky to receive an early copy to read from this author. The author honored me by asking me personally if I would be willing to read her book even before arcs went out and I am just so blessed!
This short story was written with the characters in mind, showing a slice of their lives before the events of Inheriting Armageddon. These character hold a special place in my heart and so does this author who inspires me even. To be able to get a glimpse into these wonderful characters lives/thoughts is like coming home. This book was a short and sweet read. If you have read Inheriting Armageddon first or are just starting your journey in this world the author has curated, you will find yourself swept away into the wars not only with the angels and demons but of those the characters fight inside themselves.
I definitely recommend these books for those wanting something new and fresh to add to your shelf <3
Again I want to thank you author for asking/sending me an early early copy, it has been an honor to of met you and to be able to of read your books in my lifetime.
Like the eye of the storm, most of this story had me on the edge of my seat, feeling the approach of danger before it ever arrived. Tempest of Angels is a raw narrative of five teenagers each with their own point of view, as they plan a party on the brink of a hurricane—while wrestling with the hurricanes inside themselves. I am absolutely in love with R.D.G. Lover’s writing style and prose. Each line is so vivid. From environmental descriptions that pulled me in right away, like “The old house smells murky, like standing water, and it creaked in the wind”, to powerful lines that shook my gut, like “Love had turned her to rubble.” Each character intrigued me so much, with their own complex stories, and the way they all clashed together was sharp and brimming with tension. I didn’t know what to expect! An incredible and quick-paced introduction to the world of Angels’ Compass, recommended for all fans of thrilling urban fantasy! It was an honor to receive an early copy.
Loved the short story. The story provided more insight and depth to the characters if you have read Inheriting Armageddon and a great introduction to the same characters if you hadn't read Inheriting Armageddon. This serves as a good intro to the series if you're new to it. Lots of details relevant to the characters packed into this without feeling irrelevant to the story.
The glossary at the beginning is helpful tying in the character relations as well as the hierarchy of the characters' backgrounds.
Great pacing for a short story and was thoroughly entertaining. Highly recommend for those interested in urban fantasy
I am so grateful to have been allowed to read this ARC of Tempest of Angels.
Not having read Inheriting Armageddon yet this is my first glimpse into the world and the characters. It’s a fast paced story that jumps right in. I really enjoyed the multi POV and getting to meet each of these characters while learning their dynamics and seeing the story come together. The end left me wanting to know more. I absolutely loved it and I’m now even more excited to read the next book!
