I absolutely love a dystopian romance, and Inner World definitely gives you just that. Think Divergent, The Hunger Games, The Giver, and The City of Ember all in one!

I finished this in 2 days!! The author did such an amazing job describing this world that I was literally in it. The plot twists really catch you by surprise, I did not know what was going to happen untill it did! The world building is amazing, this seemingly utopian society is based on science and the author really went into detail.

The romance is great!! The yearning, the slow-burn and then the protectiveness!!! A+

That cliffhanger is killing me though!! I will be impatiently waiting for book 2!!!

A great YA, dystopian, slow burn romance with found family that will keep you guessing until the end. The Idea of DNA connecting a person's future is something new and exciting but I wished we got a little more explanation of how it connected people together. What parts of their DNA connected them? Maybe that is something to look forward to in the next book.

Ayla spends her childhood alone when her mother was taken from her. Left to fend for herself she sings for a living but also find that singing is her emotional connection with others.

One night when she feels like the unknown is closing in, and she planning to leave her father, Marshall finds her. After she is injured, she is taken to another world on Earth, Inner World.

Once there she finds there is a war brewing between Inner world and where she is from, Surface World, and she is desperate to stop it.

Alya finds that in Inner World DNA is what determines a person's future. It determines their partners and career. Ayla finds that she advanced DNA due to her mother being from Surface World and father from Inner World.

Her father wants her to compete on the Rite, a competition that determines future council members, with the hope of being a spy and helping to prevent a war. She impersonated her assumed dead cousin to compete.

Once she finds an instructor in Oliver she finds that are not what they seem. She has to fight not only for herself but the family she has grown to love. Will it be enough to save her family and her world?

Overall I would say this was a great read with excellent world building and I am excited to see where the story goes next.

A Breath of Fresh Air! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am still reeling from the brilliant concept of Inner World. In a sea of predictable plots, this book is such a refreshing change of pace. It isn’t often that a debut novel manages to completely shift your perspective, but Inner World does exactly that. From the very first page, I was struck by the brilliance of the concept. The world building is incredibly confident, and the underlying messages woven throughout the story added so much depth to the experience.

The most striking thing about Inner World is its originality. The author has managed to craft a high concept premise that feels entirely new and deeply immersive. Knowing that this is the author’s first book makes it even more impressive, and the prose is handled with the grace of a veteran storyteller.

Let's talk characters:

While the "new idea" is what hooks you, the characters are what keep you turning the pages. They are relatable, and evolve in ways that feel both earned and surprising.

I particularly loved:

The emotional resonance of both Alya and Oliver. There as so much to unpack with these main characters and I appreciate the way the author navigated their internal landscape.

The MANY Underlying Messages: Beyond the surface-level plot, there are beautiful, subtle themes about self-discovery, resilience, and the complexity of the human psyche.

I had to stretch to find anything negative to review other than I WANTED MORE...and now I have to wait for book 2.

I am officially a fan and look forward to many more from this author. I’m already counting down the days until the next release!

Everything we’ve ever been told about the center of our earth is not true. There is no inner core no magma. In the Inner World there exists the most beautiful place you could ever imagine, with technology that far exceeds our own. A world where genetic pairs and perfecting DNA is coveted. Lifespans are extended and instead of a moon, there exists a shadow sun.

Ayla our FMC is just 13 when he mother was taken from her, forced to be resourceful using the money her mother gave her and finding odd jobs. She meets Marshal Livingston who explains there is another world one just below the earth, or surface earth.

This book is the perfect book for all ages, readers that enjoy dystopian stories. I was hooked from the beginning of this story just so mesmerized by the beautiful world that A. Miller wrote. This book has an “enemies to lovers” trope but contains no spice, this is the type of book I a (cough cough 39 year old) can enjoy but know that my 13 year old would enjoy it just as much. This book is for the readers that love a hidden world, trials and where she has to push him away to save him. This book is the reason I love dystopian stories. The world is so similar to our own but so vastly different.

I had the opportunity to read an ARC of this book, and overall it was a fun and quick read as it only took me like 4 days to finish!
The concept of the Inner World and Surface World was really unique, and I honestly wish we had gotten to explore even more of it because the setting was one of my favorite parts. The story also gave me nostalgic vibes from some of the dystopian books I loved growing up.
I liked the main character and thought the other characters were interesting, but Iris was definitely my favorite(I would die for that man).
One thing I struggled with was the pacing in the beginning. There was a lot of information given all at once, but that could’ve just been me as I had a concussion when I started reading it..
Also, at times I also felt like the stakes could have been higher. Certain moments that were meant to feel urgent didn’t always land for me emotionally, and sometimes it felt like events were happening to the main character rather than her actively making choices that drove the story forward.
That being said, this book was really good and if you enjoy dystopians like divergent or the hunger games, this could be a fun one to check out!

As a male my wife has gotten me out of my usual Brandon Sanderson, Pierce Brown, and many other sci-fi and high fantasy series. When she recommended I read this I wasn't sure how I would like this book. I finished this book in two days! I pulled this up on a plane to the midwest and then got stuck in a storm and had to hover above the city for an extra 2 hours before we could land and I never put it down! The story continued to move forward without stopping and I felt like every chapter I finished I needed to know what part of the story would unfold next!

Having just read the most recent installment of the Red Rising series I was excited to read something that kept me guessing and emotionally involved. This had the perfect amount of budding romance, familial mystery, and a system of "enhancements" that is easy for readers of many ages to enjoy! I will be anxiously awaiting the next book because that cliff hanger wrecked me!!

It always amazes me how authors are able to create entire new worlds from scratch and she did it beautifully in this one! I kept slowing down at the beginning to make sure I was catching everything to understand the world. From there, I was completely mesmerized by the story.

This book drew me deeper in so many ways -- family, a love story, twists and turns, and commentary on "perfection".

There were so many quotes from the book that I jotted down to remember and continue to think on. But so that I don't spoil anything, instead I'll share a quote from the Acknowledgements: "If something in this story made you feel seen, braver, or reminded you that being imperfectly human is not a flaw but a gift. . . then every late night, every doubt, every fear was worth it." This book made me feel all of those things and more.

Can't wait to read more about this world.

Inner World is a YA dystopian fantasy for this new generation! Ariel J. Miller manages to create a hidden world with intricate details where the reader still feels grounded and submersed into the experience of her FMC Ayla. The action is instant, the slow burn romance is worth the yearning, and the twists and turns are ever present throughout the entire story. The relationships that Miller has written are so engaging and you are rooting for our girl Ayla the whole time! Even with my busy schedule I was able to read SO much in each pocket of time I got—it was that compelling! This is a fantastic debut, and we will all be waiting eagerly for the next installment!

Wow, the creativity and imagination that went into creating this world is astounding! I LOVED the sleek designs, new technology, and energy manipulation/gene descriptors you see in this book. Pairing science with powers and tying epigenetics into it - that was totally my cup of tea! 🫖 some of the technology in it would be something I'd love to have in my own life (those earrings?! 😍)
And the character's relationship?! 👩‍🍳😘 So well developed and beautifully crafted! I also love the side characters and can't wait, because it looks like we may get to see more of them in the next book of the series! Ariel knocked it out of the park with her debut! ❤️

Ok...so this is not my typical genre but I was asked if I was interested in arc reading it and honestly jumped at the opportunity.
I'm so so happy I did.
I found the story to be truly intriguing with the existence of the Surface World and the Inner World.
This book grabbed me almost immediately. The characters are very well written and the twists the story takes kept me guessing right to the end.
This is a book I highly recommend...5 stars all the way from me.
Thank you Ariel Miller for the opportunity.

I read this book during a trip, and it turned out to be a wonderful companion for the journey. It kept me intrigued and eager to see what would happen next. The author wove in so many fascinating elements surrounding the Rite, which made the story even more engaging—I found myself rooting for everyone involved. The love story between XYZ (don't want to spoil it for you) struck a perfect balance between strength and tenderness, adding real depth to the overall experience. I absolutely can’t wait for more books in this world—I need the next installment as soon as possible!

I started this book not really knowing what to expect, and boy was I surprised. It grabbed my attention right away. The details Ariel uses to paint a picture of Inner World, and their society made me feel like I was there. It took me into their world and really found myself resonating with Ayla. I love the story of finding her inner strength and also falling in love. I love a good love story. This book has all the feels, but also has plenty of action and science - all in one! I can’t wait to read more of her story.

Enemies to lovers. High-stakes. A fascinating world we've never visited. This book has it all and was a great read that kept me up into the late hours of the night finishing. If you liked Hunger Games, you will like Inner World. A place where human genetics has been manipulated time and again to create perfection and long lives. But, of course, just beneath the surface (pun intended), everything is far from perfect.

I absolutely loved this book! The story was incredibly creative and clearly very well thought out. The idea of advanced genetics and a hidden world existing within our own made the story feel unique and imaginative. The plot was extremely engaging, and the twists were truly unpredictable, which made it impossible to put the book down. The story kept building momentum, there was always something happening, so it never felt boring. I seriously loved this book and could not stop reading!

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!! Definitely my new favorite read. This book had such a creative story line, I’ve never read anything like it. The world was so unique and was built so creatively, I felt like I was transported to this world. The characters were also so amazing, the main character was so relatable and the love story was so adorable I was so invested in their relationship!
I felt as if I was experiencing the story right alongside the readers and the anticipation at the end nearly gave me a heart attack, I was so stressed for the characters! It was wrapped up so well though and I literally cannot wait for the second book! The pacing was so good I never was bored, I actually couldn’t flip through the pages fast enough!
I can’t wait to see what this author writes in the future, she is extremely talented! I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone, especially if you like books like The Hunger Games or Divergent.

This is a super unique world and was so much fun to read! The closest thing I could compare it to would be like divergent vibes but with trials and like an upside down world!!

There's politics and secrets and betrayals!! It was a super fun read!! Not spicy but there's tension and romance!!
