Brenda Bouverie has come on a singles holiday to Turkey to escape. Intent on indulgence, she’s looking for sun, sea and ... distraction from a past she would give anything to change.

But on this singles holiday no one is quite who they seem. First impressions are unreliable and when the sun goes down, danger lies in wait. As someone targets the unwary group of strangers, on

In Singled Out, Lawford allows us to join a motley crew of mature singles as they head for a holiday on the Turkish coach. But as the opening scene in the book suggests, not everybody in the group are who they seem.
If you're going on beach holiday and you're a lover of creepy, psychological thrillers, then this is the book for you. In it, Lawford allows us to experience the full delights of a Mediterranean break, with the foods, the sights and the nightlife being described with a delightful rich

I started reading SINGLED OUT because I liked the title and plot. I was not disappointed.

Author Julie Lawford not only wrote a great story, but she did it with style and a vocabulary that should be commended. The author took a group of strangers on holiday to a foreign land and made them real. I was caught up in wanting to know all about them.

Singled Out is a mystery that kept me guessing and wanting to know who it was taking advantage of innocent women. The author didn’t let me know until the t

Don’t let the fact that this is Julie Lawford’s debut fiction novel fool you… this lady truly knows how to write! Not only does she demonstrate a brilliant grasp of the English language but the entire book is beautifully written with fantastic descriptive passages that will transport you to the sights, sounds, tastes and fragrances of Turkey, where this story takes place.

I had other stuff to take care of today, but did it get done? Not a chance. I was locked away with ‘Singled Out’ until I final

Author Julie Lawford and I got chatting originally on twitter where I was envious of her new bookshelves! She had tweeted a photo. On discovering that she had published her debut novel earlier this year, and because I am always nosey where books are concerned, I took a look at its reviews and decided that Singled Out might well be a read for me. I was right - it's a really good book!

Set on a singles holiday in Turkey, Singled Out is much more than a light beach read. In the very first chapter we

I really enjoyed reading this debut novel from Julie Lawford. A definite page turner, I completed it in a couple of days. The book centres around events that unfold during a singles holiday in Turkey and as the author says, people are not always quite what they first seem. There are some definite twists and turns along the way, certainly some assumptions I had made about the characters turned out to be quite untrue. Be warned ….there is a dark undertone to this story that can make one feel sligh ...more

Recommends it for: fans of mystery, crime thrillers, and literary fiction
I was surprised by how much this book gripped me, as it's a little outside what I'd consider my usual genre. That's the strength of the book though; it crosses over several genres and appeals to a range of people. I found myself wrapped up in trying to figure out who the "baddie" was from the start - the clever use of first and third person helped keep the different narrators separate but it also was very frustrating because I just couldn't work out who the mystery man was! And yet at the reveal ...more

This is a great holiday read, with the sights, sounds and smells of Turkey made vivid on every page. (The food descriptions are mouth-watering)

Brenda is on a singles holiday and spends the first few days getting to know the group... and as the reader knows, one of them is a stalker, out to assault his unsuspecting fellow-holidaymakers. As the week goes on Brenda becomes suspicious - but what should she do? I particularly enjoyed the ending - even when the 'bad guy' is discovered, there is still

I couldn't put it down! I absolutely loved this book, the characters are well crafted and the plot is gripping throughout. I do hope Julie Lawford writes another and that it includes the character Brenda who is fabulous.

I couldn't put this down!! Gritty, compelling. Perfect holiday read. I'd recommend it highly. It's very well written and feels like you're one of the holiday makers. It creates exactly the right build up and tempo for a story. You'll read it in no time!

I actually read Singled Out a while ago, but it’s taken this long to write a review because I couldn’t quite work out how I felt about it. Which doesn’t sound very promising, I know, but let me clarify.

The first thing to say is that the blurb does mention holiday romance, but (and undoubtedly this is because of my own preferences), I focused on the element of intrigue that’s hinted at. In a sense, that focus of mine was underlined by the opening chapter, which does more than hint at a darker sid

Singled Out explores the relationships that develop between a group of people on a singles' vacation in Turkey. Brenda, a fantastic character and my new favorite heroine (such a cool lady!), forays out on her own for the trip while dealing with a personal issue she must come to terms with. But her life soon becomes intertwined with the others at the vacation resort, and she finds herself caught up in something she'd rather not be. What follows is a great combination of who-dunit and psychologica ...more

I came to fiction late in the day. Following a career in technology marketing I've been freelance since 2002 writing copy for every kind of business collateral. Come 2010, I was on the hunt for a new writing challenge and Singled Out - my debut psychological suspense novel - is the result.

Whilst penning my second novel, I still write - and blog - for marketing clients.
