I was promised to the older Sokolov brother first.
The arranged marriage contract said his name — Dimitri Sokolov. He’s the cruel one, the boy who made my life miserable. He knows exactly how to push my buttons because he’s been doing it for years.
Marrying him isn’t for power or protection. It’s punishment.
But when the alliance unexpectedly shifts in our families, so does my fate. The papers are rewritten, and suddenly I’m meant to marry his brother instead.
I thought I was free. But the man I was never supposed to fall in love with refuses to let me go. His stare still pins me in place. His voice still sends chills down my spine.
He says the contract changed, but he didn’t. He tells me that I’ll always be his and that he’ll never let me go.
And I don’t know which terrifies me the past I’m trying to escape from or the future he’s determined to steal back.
Dimitri
Savina Cipriano was mine first.
The contract proved it. But then my father wrenched her from my hands, insisting I remain his pawn. When he handed Savina to my brother instead, the world I thought I controlled shattered. Something inside me broke with it, every certainty splintering into chaos.
My brother can play the hero all he wants, but he didn’t earn her. I did. I’ve been obsessed with her for years, my devotion so violent it would scare her if she knew the depth of it.
They think changing a name on paper changes destiny.
It doesn’t.
I won’t pretend I don’t see the way she still reacts to me; the shiver that runs through her and the way her pulse races the second I’m near, betraying herself in ways she can’t hide.
I ruined her once, tore at her soul with my cruelty because I didn’t know how to want her without destroying her.
I made mistakes I’ll never forgive myself for, but I refuse to watch her walk down the aisle to my brother. And if I have to become the villain again to stop this wedding, I will.
She was promised to me first. She’s mine. And I’ll scorch the entire earth around us just to make sure she never forgets it.

If you think arranged marriages are simple, think again. In Broken Vow and Beautiful Lies, Angela Snyder takes the trope of mafia royalty and turns it into a high-stakes, emotionally brutal game of love, power, and obsession. Savina Cipriano grows up in a world where danger isn’t just a rumor—it’s her daily reality. At 13, she’s thrust into a marriage contract with Dimitri Sokolov, a boy whose icy blue eyes seem to pierce her very soul. From the very first moment, their connection is electric—but fraught with fear, tension, and the heavy weight of their families’ criminal empires. Dimitri isn’t a boy-next-door type. He’s cold, controlled, and ruthless—a product of training, tragedy, and loyalty to his family’s legacy. And yet, there’s an undercurrent of protectiveness, a silent pull toward Savina that refuses to be ignored. Their interactions oscillate between forced awkwardness, silent intimidation, and the kind of tension that makes your chest ache with every word they exchange. Snyder masterfully balances the darkness of mafia life with the intimacy of teenage vulnerability. Savina is tough, intelligent, and quick-witted, but she’s also human—susceptible to fear, desire, and heartbreak. Dimitri, for all his power and control, is equally layered, his stoic exterior slowly cracking under the weight of his feelings for her. The escalation of tension is relentless. From schoolyard rivalries and parties gone wrong to the threat of kidnapping and betrayal, every chapter is layered with danger, suspense, and steamy moments that will leave your heart racing. Snyder doesn’t shy away from the gritty realities of this world—drugged drinks, violent encounters, and the ever-present shadow of family expectations are all vividly portrayed. What sets this story apart is its emotional depth. Savina and Dimitri’s relationship isn’t just about attraction; it’s about survival, trust, and navigating a world where every choice could have deadly consequences. Even when they’re apart, the pull between them is magnetic. And when they finally confront their feelings, it’s explosive—steeped in angst, desperation, and the kind of instant, inevitable love that feels both forbidden and irresistible. Broken Vow and Beautiful Lies are dark, thrilling, and addictive. They’re perfect for readers who crave mafia romance with layered characters, high tension, and a love story that refuses to follow the rules. By the end, you’re left breathless, heartbroken, and secretly rooting for every stolen moment of happiness these two deserve. Trigger Warning: Mafia violence, forced arranged marriage, kidnapping, drugs, and intense emotional/sexual tension.
This story grabbed me from the very first chapter and never let go. It’s a fast‑paced, emotional, high‑stakes mafia romance filled with tension, danger, and a connection that builds in the shadows long before either character is ready to face it.
Dimitri Sokolov, Romanian, was 15 when his father signed him into a contract to an arrange marriage to his father's boss, Donato Capiano. For when he was 25 to Capiano's only daughter, Savina
Dimitri is a trained assassin shaped by loyalty, discipline, and a lifetime of expectations. His complicated history with Savina creates a powerful push‑and‑pull dynamic that fuels the entire book. Even when he tries to keep his distance, his instinct to shield her is always there, simmering beneath the surface. Some where as the years go by his feelings gotten even more obsessive with his ' little nightingale' but his name for her is in Romanian but means nightingale, than he ever saw coming, until he's no longer the groom but his younger no straight brother is... He might not get to marry her but she's his until she said I do to his brother...
Savina Cipiano was 13, when her father arranged for her to a groom when she turns 23. Savina’s journey is just as compelling. She’s strong, resilient, and determined to carve out a future on her own terms despite the pressure surrounding her. Her strained family relationships add emotional depth and make her growth even more satisfying to watch.
Together, their story is an emotional rollercoaster—full of secrets, tension, and moments that hit hard. The chemistry is undeniable, the pacing is tight, and the twists kept me turning pages late into the night. He makes life difficult for her even attending her high school, bulling her, hooking up with all the popular girls knowing he's not according to the contract but to scared to tell her father but pays him back my dating a jock...
Her evil stepmother makes life much worse for her even getting daddy to side with stepmommy over his own daughter.
A gripping start to a series I’m excited to continue.
Savina couldn't believe she'd just signed a marriage contract, she's only thirteen. Now he's attending her school, with every girl hanging off him. Yet she was the school fool who's constantly ridiculed for her speech impediment. When she finally gets noticed, her father ships her off to a all girls school. Now she is a few months from her twenty-third birthday and her marriage to a man she hates. Dimitri Sokolov is his father's second from the age of seven he carried out his father's bidding, or faced the consequences and punishment. Now he's forced into a contract of marriage to align his family to the Cipriano family. So he makes her life his responsibility, watching everything she does. Whilst still keeping his father happy. Then all of a sudden the contract is changed to his brothers name. Can he really walk away. Will his brother protect her the way he does. Savina thinks she's finally saved from marrying a monster. But is she. This is a story that just keeps giving. The main characters have a very complicated past. Yet is the Sokolov family her only enemy. Sit back for a story that you'll be unable to put down. I'm hoping that Darby and Cillian's story will be as complicated. Maybe we'll find out more about Darby's mysterious stepbrother. Make sure to add to your tbr list you won't regret it
Not what I thought it was going to be I really was looking forward to reading it and wanted to like it. The story started out with high schoolers which wasn't too bad the author did a good job of describing characters and feelings. However the deeper I got into the story The situations were just ridiculous. I'll just give you a couple of examples so if you want to read it I don't rent it for you. For 7 years the MFC kept the forced engagement a secret why I don't know? Then all of a sudden plans changed and she's forced to be engaged to his brother. The MFC is supposed to be innocent and proper. However she keeps letting the other brother the one she was engaged to frst grope her under the table at a family dinner giving her orgasms. When she's planning on getting married in a few months. Then the doctors examination was so outrageous. The doctor groped her had her get on all fours and took pictures of her. That is beyond naive, the MFC was so stupid that it was hard to overlook when you were reading. I would think that a 23-year-old woman knows that that's not a normal examination and would get the heck out of there. I also feel that it's unrealistic for a 26-year-old Mafia man to be a virgin . After that I scrolled to end. I was really disappointed in the book. I did like the cover art but it also did not match the book The picture on the front looks like an older man with gray in his beard not a 26-year-old.

Title: Broken Vows and Beautiful Lies (The Beautifully Broken Mafia: Book 1) Author: Angela Snyder
Review: This is the first book in The Beautifully Broken Mafia series where we meet mafia princess, Savina Cipriano and heir to the Sokolov family, Dimitri Sokolov.
I was one of the lucky ones to receive this amazing ARC. This is my second time delving into Angela Snyder’s world, and I’m all in baby! Hooked, line and sinker from the very first chapter, I absolutely devoured this bad boy.
From just thirteen years old, Savina’s future is set in a marriage contract to the notorious bad boy, Dimitri Sokolov. As much as Savina tries to resist, she knows she never really had any choice in her future. An alliance is made, and the contract is signed. All that’s left, is to wait until Savina turns twenty-three and she will be wed. You get to see how the relationship starts right from the beginning, during their high school years. Dimitri is cruel towards Savina, leaving her even more miserable about her future.
Savina has grown up in a world where there is constant danger. With her father being the biggest mafia boss in New York, she is used to the everyday threats. But she wasn’t ready for the blue eyed, ruthless Romanian boy to make her life even harder. Savina has been bullied her entire life as she has a speech impediment. As much as Dimitri picks on Savina, he is the only one who can, and anyone else who tries will be in a world of hurt. Dimitri becomes Savina’s protector, even if it costs him the wrath from his father.
After an incident, Savina is sent away to an all girls school to complete the remainder of her high school and college years. When she returns, she is to fulfil her duty to her family and wed Dimitri, only the contact has changed, an amendment made, now she has to marry his younger brother, Pavel.
No one is happy with this arrangement, but what other choice do they have? The push and pull between Savina and Dimitri is electric. The sexual chemistry bled through the pages and every intimate scene was SO, SO HOT!
This book was action packed and a storyline to boot. Every character played their role well, except for the step-mother, she seriously needs to go! The suspense was held throughout, right to the last few chapters. You could tell Pavlov didn’t want any part of what his father was arranging, and that he had secrets of his own. All is revealed in the end, and wraps up nicely.
I loved Savina and Darby’s friendship. Darby is a girls girl, and the only one that had Savina’s back. She had so many secrets of her own, and I’m stoked that her and Cillian are the next book in the series. What went down at that safe house?
My only annoyance in this book was that Savina cried all the damn time!
I will be delving more into Angel’s world, and checking out her other series as her writing is fantastic.
I received an (ARC) Advanced Reader Copy for MY honest review for free.
“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I don’t want you to ever hide from me. Do you understand?” “Ce fată cuminte,” (What a good girl)
“Your body was made for sinning, Savina,” he tells me in a whisper against my ear. “And I would gladly go to hell just to be able to touch and taste you.”
“I saved you for myself, privighetoarea mea mică. Because you’re mine. You’ve always been mine. And you’ll always be mine.” And then he wraps a bloody hand around my throat, pulls me closer and presses his lips against mine in an all-consuming, soul-searing kiss that has my legs trembling to keep my body upright. When he pulls back from me, he stares into my eyes and whispers, “And I’m yours. I’ll always be yours. Until my heart stops beating.”
If enemies-to-lovers and ruthless mafia drama are your thing, this story delivers in the most addictive way. A marriage contract forged in childhood binds two powerful families together, with a wedding set for their mid-twenties — a future neither of them wants. Both rebel against it… until everything changes. When Dimitri finally comes face-to-face with the woman he was promised, one unexpected moment stops him from ruining her life outright — and sparks an obsession he can’t shake.
Just as he begins to believe she might truly become his, fate — and family politics — rip her away and demands she marry his own brother instead. The tension, the possessiveness, the heartbreak… it’s all absolutely delicious.
Dimitri starts off as a brutal, unapologetic alpha, but watching his layers peel back was one of my favorite parts of the book. Beneath the intimidation is fierce loyalty, protectiveness, and a surprising tenderness that slips through at the most vulnerable moments. Savina’s growing feelings feel natural and earned as she witnesses the man behind the monster. His determination to safeguard her — even at great personal cost — had me completely hooked.
And that ending? I’m already desperate for the next installment, especially if Darby’s story is coming. I will be first in line.

They say there's a fine line between love and hate, and in this book, it such a thin line it was almost blurred. I'd enjoyed the dramatic push and pull, love-hate dynamic the MCs - Dimitri and Savina - had for each other. Although of course as one read the story it became clear the hate became just a mask for the love they had for someone they knew they couldn't have. Aware of their forbidden attraction and the dire consequences they could face if their relationship was found out, of course I became invested in finding out how they would work things out. Mafia marriages arranged for the sake of strengthening valued alliances are life-and-death matters, so I was eager to discover how Savina and Dimitri would defy the contract tying her to his brother and still get their HEA. It was entertaining as I hoped it would be!
This is my first time reading work by Angela Snyder, and it certainly would not be the last. I enjoyed her writing style, her character development of the MCs, and the satisfying way she melded spice into the romance between the two. That certainly makes me want to look into her previous works now.

Promised to Dimitri at only 13, the story takes you on an angsty, emotionally charged ride. Both being used as pawns in their family’s alliances, you join them through their teenage years, navigating school life and ignoring the pull they feel towards each other. (No spice until adults)
I really enjoyed seeing the story from this point. Rather than skipping straight ahead to the point of marriage, you see how their relationship develops (or doesn’t, gotta love some enemies to lovers 😂), how not saying anything can lead to the other thinking you are trying to sabotage them.
I loved Dimitri’s character developing throughout the book. He’s just a big softie really 🥹 the vanity table and when you learn about the story behind his tattoo’s! Omg , there is no denying that this big burly, scary man is just a teddy bear 🤭
The 🌶️- wow! The ballet class 😮 omg - IYKYK 😈
I cannot wait for Darby’s story! I loved her friend because *ah hem* every book lover can certainly relate 😂 and she’s funny but has her own family issues. I’m excited to find out what happened with Cillian Kane.
Broken Vows and Beautiful Lies is a dark, emotionally charged romance that blends enemies-to-lovers tension with arranged marriage and mafia themes. The story sets up two characters whose relationship is born out of conflict and obligation rather than affection, which creates plenty of intense friction and slow-burn chemistry as their dynamic evolves.
What makes this book compelling is how it balances high-stakes romance with deeper emotional stakes. The protagonists start off on opposite sides—guarded, mistrustful, and shaped by their past wounds—but as they’re forced into proximity and partnership, layers of vulnerability begin to emerge. Expect gritty internal struggles, charged dialogue, and a push-and-pull dynamic that keeps the tension alive without rushing the emotional payoff.
The mafia backdrop adds an edge of danger and complexity without overwhelming the heart of the story, making it ideal for readers who enjoy passionate, character-driven dark romances with just enough suspense to elevate the emotional impact.
Perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers tropes, arranged connections, and romances that simmer before they ignite.
A mafia arranged marriage that is signed when they are kids; to be married at 23 and 25. Neither of them wants this and they make it known to their fathers. Only when Dimitri decides to make sure that never happens, well lets just say he hears her sing and can't bring himself to destroy her just yet. From there, his obsession grows and right when he thinks she'll be his, his father pulls it away from him and expects her to marry his brother instead. I absolutely loved the evolution of Dimitri, because yes he is an alphahole for a lot of the book, but we do start to see glimpse of his sweet and caring side throughout the book. Savina can't help falling for him the more she sees. Dimitri has always tried to protect her and those he loves - even until the end. I can't wait for the next book too with Darby!
Besties… when I tell you "Broken Vows and Beautiful Lies" had me STRESSED in the best way, I mean clutching-my-Kindle, heart-racing stressed. Savina and Dimitri? Toxic. Obsessive. Explosive. And I ate it up.
Dimitri is dark-dark. The morally grey, “I will burn the world for you” type who was unhinged even as a kid. His obsession with Savina isn’t soft or sweet... it’s possessive, intense, and borderline destructive. And that push-and-pull between them? Whew. The tension was suffocating in the best way. Every stare, every confrontation felt like a loaded weapon.
The arranged marriage drama, the brother betrayal, the mafia politics... the plot did not come to play. Just when I thought I knew where things were going, BAM. Another twist!
And the spice? Explosive. Passion-fueled. Enemies to lovers with revenge, obsession, and “touch her & d!e” energy? Immediate TBR-worthy chaos!
OMG besties… if you love dark mafia romance with bite, this is your sign.

Was sucked into this book from the start. Damitri and Savina are young teenagers forced into a marriage contract who both end up hating each other but things eventually grow between them and become worse when she's forced to marry the brother instead. Dimitri is protective of her and doesn't want to fall her and she's stubborn who also doesn't want to fall. Dimitri is very loyal and loves his and his brother that he'd willing sacrifice his own happiness. Love the banter with Savina and her best friend Darby, I'm curious of Darby's story seems dark from what I can tell. Otherwise this story was amazing flowed really well made me feel sad for the mmc and fmc when it came to the end.

Arranged to be married at 13 & 15, Savina & Dimitri's relationship starts off with a rocky start. He wants to kill her; he was trained by his father to be an assassin at the age of 7. I really feel for these characters. Dimitri is hardened by how his father raised him, and Pavel (the brother) is thrust into the arranged marriage after their father changes his mind. Savina is a pawn to her father and a punching bag to her evil stepmother. Darby is a spitfire who is fiercely loyal to her best friend, Savina. I enjoyed the emotional growth this story took from age 13 up through high school. A really good story.

When Savina is thirteen her father signs a contract with Dimitri's father that will see them marry in ten years time. Savina considers Dimitri a monster and a bully constantly torturing her with his cruel words. As the wedding gets closer, she resigns herself to her fate. Dimitri started off hating Savina as a symbol of his father's control, but as the years progressed he always protected her despite his cruel treatment. Suddenly, his father is rewriting the contract and the groom has changed to his younger brother Pavel. Can Dimitri watch as Savina marries his brother? Why does the monster Savina hated now feel like the only one she craves?
When your mafia family arranges a marriage while you're both teenagers, you have no choice but to obey. You hate the fact that you don't get a choice in your own life. Sometimes that hate can lead to obsession. Sometimes you don't realize that you might feel more for the person you seem to hate. That is what seems to be happening to Dimitri. Savina is just an innocent, naive young girl who has always felt like an outcast. She will do what she's told, but that doesn't mean she has to like it. Even if her pulse accelerates every time Dimitri is around. I thoroughly enjoyed this exciting book and couldn't put it down. Can't wait for Darby's story!
I'm ashamed to admit I'm not overly familiar with this author, but I very much intend to change that after reading this gem. It was such a gripping, page-turner. It stuck its claws in me and never let go, where it still lives rent free in my head.
I can honestly say this book left me a bit spell-bound. It checked every book box I had, down to intriguing characters, a storyline that's unique and enticing and captivating plot. It took me on a journey of arranged marriage, deception, action, drama, twists and turns and incredible steam. Angela Snyder has created book mastery that will more than satisfy every book craving you have.
The characters were very complex and compelling and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!
Kick back and enjoy the read!.

This book took me for a ride, a good one at that. I didn't know whether to like Dimitri or hate him at first. He is put in an impossible situation as a teen so it's no wonder he was not nice, but he was protective in his own way.
Savina a mafia bosses daughter, her life bargained away to bad boy. I liked Savina she pushes as far as she can in her life. her life isn't always easy as she has a horrible step mom.
I enjoyed how we meet the characters as teens, then young adults and then grown ups. It gave us time to get to know them.
The storyline kept me gripped and the pull of #Dimisav was hot.
The book covers relatively short amount of the characters lives but it feels much longer. The reason may be all the growing that the characters go through, their relationship developing along the way. I was really frustrated with the MMC during most of the book but not for the usual reasons. This also keeps the reader interested as the story is different and involves surprising reveals. The book plays with multiple tropes but it does't get very deep in them so it's suitable for many readers. The book is 🌶🌶🌶. The focus is nicely turned to the sidecharacters in the end of the book, which is always promising!
Broken Vows And Beautiful Lies is Savina Cipriano and Dimitri Sokolov's story. This story was so emotional for me. These characters have gone through so much at such a young age and it didn't seem to lessen as they grew up. It's a fantastic story that'll completely consume you from the very beginning and doesn't let go. This is my first read by this author but definitely not my last. I'm looking forward to Darby and Cillian's story.
"She was promised to me first. She’s mine. And I’ll scorch the entire earth around us just to make sure she never forgets it."
This is a very intense story. It’s really good, I just had to keep reading it. It starts when Savina and Dimitri are teens and the story follows them through young adulthood, for 10 years. There were several really unexpected plot twists that made me think this was going to be a cliffhanger, but thankfully the author worked through the issues, didn’t rush things and ended up creating a 5-star read. I feel like this was a different kind of mafia love story. I hope the next book is Darby’s love story.
Do you see my words burning into this review!? This book was absolute fire 🔥 Dimitri and Savina had me gripping my iPad from the very beginning. This story was intense. Their desire for one another was off the charts. The push and pull between them had me needing a fan while I was reading. And when her arrangement was pulled from Dimitri to his brother, all hell broke loose. There was no way Dimitri was giving her up. Never. This story was so intense. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I devoured this book. This was so good! I need more!
This was an excellent story with amazing characters that had me captivated! I was hooked almost instantly! This was more than a bully romance, and more than a mafia/arranged marriage romance! This story felt original and I was as invested in Savina and Dimitri as he was obsessed with her!!! I definitely didn’t expect the threat that came for Savina and Darby, and even less so the little twist with Darby’s new beau!.

I was surprised by the opening chapter, when Dimitri decided how his future wife's life would go. It was already clear to me from this beginning that the next few hundred pages would not be a romantic walk on the beach with a drink in hand.
I admit that it seemed a bit too young mode to me. I'm not saying that Dimitri wasn't dark enough, but it was a bit too much on FMC's part.
Nevertheless, the book was well written, the characters were well developed, and the story (plot) was quite elaborate, which is refreshing. I will definitely read the next part.
I am all for mafia books and arrged marriages ect this sounded just down my street..
I hade to unfortunately DNF this read at 30%. I could mo longer push throw. Maybe it more suited to younger audience early 20's.
For me personally the writting style did not jell with me and felt long and boring. The FMC just gave me the ick.. Anyoned the hell out of me. Yes I know she just 13 and 15 where I was.
That's why I give 2 I could not push passed. So sorry.
Dimitri was fifteen and Savina was thirteen and a contract has been signed that in another ten years the wedding will go ahead. Well that's the plan anyway but plans can be changed at short notice that will upset the apple cart when the ten years are up. There's so much to really grab your attention in this story that won't let you go and i was hooked. A mafia love story that really has been beautifully written.
I like a good Mafia read and this was one with a touch of bullying thrown in too. Savina & Dimitri have been forced into an arranged marriage by signing a contract when they were children. 10 years of being in and out of each other's lives. With a love/hate relationship but it gave them time to get to know each other better I thought. Whilst their families played about behind the scenes they were organising Savina & Dimitri's lives. More so with Savina's awful stepmother who she had to deal with. I loved Savina & Dimitri's dynamic though and how it changed from hatred to protectiveness. I also loved Savina's friend Darby and I'm looking forward to her book now. A cracking read.
