Stay focused. Get a job. Save her father's life.

Beth Lamont knows far too much about the harsh realities of life her gilded classmates have only read about in class. She'll do whatever it takes to take care of her father, even if that means tutoring a guy like Noah - a guy who represents everything she hates about the war, soldiers and what the Army has done to her family.

"I love you," I whisper in his ear. "I love you."
I don't know if he believes it. If he feels it deep in his soul like I do. But I will say it every day until the end of time if that's what it takes.
Because I will never leave him alone again.

I'd love to say that I adored the book and I really liked the characters. All of them but what I did not like was how the chapters were put together. Why? B

I’m addicted to Jessica Scott’s writing. Her romances are realistic, beautifully written and passionate! Before I Fall was no exception.

Noah is back from military service and attending college. His lieutenant pulled strings to get him into school and he doesn’t want to squander his opportunity. Stats class is like a different language to him so Noah takes his professor’s advice and hires a tutor, Beth. She’s beautiful and driven, and not at all friendly when they first meet, but after they get

4.5 - "You've definitely made the day a little brighter." Stars!

I am not a new reader to Jessica Scott’s writing, but this is the first full length book I have read by her. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Before I Fall, it was beautifully written, the characters were well developed, the flow of the story itself was steady and the revelations came along at all the right points. Even though I kind of expected some of them, others came out of left field and offered just the right am
This beautiful story took me completely by surprise. Beth has the weight of the world on her shoulders. She's in school, works, takes care of her injured vet father and tutors. She's barely hanging on, trying to find help for her dad who can't get the help he needs through the VA. Noah returns to college after being injured in the war. He has secrets and demons and he struggles every day. The chemistry between these characters is pretty amazing from the beginning. What really surprised me about ...more

DNF at 22%. Don't look at me. oOSarahOo enabled me.

I don't like DNF-ing books. I hate DNF-ing ARCs (because I'm really grateful to publishers and authors for letting me read advance copies for free). And yet...

This book had SO MANY grammar and punctuation errors, chunky sentences and problematic tenses (past or present, pick one already!) that it was really hard for me to pay attention to the actual story. I understand t

So I finished this today and although the first half or so of the book was a 4.5-5 star, the latter half had me drop a 1/2-1 star and I will tell you why. There is no doubt about it that Noah was a GREAT character for me, I mean I LOVED this guy from start until finish and never wavered at all on my love for him. He was so broken but yet he had a heart even though he didn't realize it....yes he was hot, sexy, swoon-worthy, sweet and just oh so damn caring..... My heart broke for him

BRAVO, Jessica Scott, for the unbelievably breathtaking story you have given us!! I thought it was just going to be the story of a girl hating a guy because he was a former soldier, he falls for her, the end…You proved me wrong and I am so glad you did.

Beth is doing all she can to keep her head above water, not only at school but also in taking care of her father. When her Stats professor offers her extra income by tutoring a former soldier, she wants to decline it but she knows that extra incom

3.5 stars Before I Fall has so much potential with two strong characters that readers will love, especially Noah, of course. Overall, it is a good love story, but it could have been so much more... First of all, there was a plot thread in the middle of it that didn't lead anywhere and a few scenes were that way as well. And then? The ultimate faux pas? As a writer, you've got to watch those endings. They can't be too rushed. They need to flow. This one didn't, and the epilogue was NOT a true epi ...more

As a fan of Jessica Scott's Coming Home series I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of her first NA book and Before I Fall was even better than I'd hoped it would be. I love contemporary romances, I even enjoy NA contemps but I'm sure I can't be the only person who is sick of reading the same old tropes and clichés in nearly every story I pick up? Well, I'm very, very happy to say that Before I Fall avoids all of those pitfalls. There is no player hero who can suddenly keep it in h
I honestly hate writing this review.. I wanted to love this book so much, but Im so depressed from reading it...
I'm honestly not trying to be insensitive.. but this book is just about two sobs stories away from me quitting reading all together. That is all it all been. I'm all about determined people doing something with their lives.. Overcoming their issues.. But this book just drags on and on.

Realistic, but not too deep in my opinion. Deep enough to get a sense of the major issues that are catapulted onto many to survive, but not so deep that the issues are the main focus of the story; just good company to the love-story plot. I invited this story into my life only knowing of it’s cover art. I suspect it’s independently published and sitting at a mere 200ish pages, it made for a pretty quick read about Beth and Noah’s individual battles with addiction and PTSD. Before I Fall is a sweet and sad story about unfairness of life... with HEA. ♡

Beth is a sweet girl with so much weight on her shoulders: she takes care of her injured father, she has two jobs, and school.
Her life is so unfair. When I was reading all I thought was: This girl deserves some happiness.

Noah is a soldier struggling with PTSD. He is in pain: mental and physical and so has many demons but at the same time he is such a good guy with a big heart.

Jessica Scott has such a knack at writing military romances. I have not served or been to war but I can't even imagine the consequences and aftermath of returning home. I feel Jessica Scott does an unbelievable job at capturing the heartache and emotions of the devastation and situations that being at war leaves behind.

Beth Lamont is angry. She's angry at the lack of

Jessica Scott delivers an unforgettable tale of strife, heartache, love and acceptance in her new adult contemporary romance, Before I Fall.

Beth Lamont despises anything that has to do with the war that broke her father and destroyed her family. When she is asked to tutor a young ex-soldier in her stats class though, she can't turn down the money that could go towards her father's medications. She never expected to fall so hard for Noah Warren, a man similarly damaged by the war. But t

I received Before I Fall in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I’ve been a fan of Jessica Scott’s military love stories for a while, but it’s also been a while since I’ve read one. When I found out that she was delving into New Adult territory, I jumped at the chance to read her first book in the Falling series. I wasn’t disappointed.

There was so much to love about Before I Fall, I’m not sure where to start. Beth was an amazing character to start this series. The

I’ve read many of Jessica Scott’s books and have really enjoyed them. “Before I Fall” was no exception. Although a little different form her previous books. They were mostly about people in the military or getting out of the military. They were also mostly about adults. This book was a little different because it’s about young adults. Generally, I have to confess, that I don’t love young adult books because I find them to be ver

Addiction is the theme throughout this first in a NA series from Jessica Scott. We get to see it from all sides. The daughter who is taking care of her father who is a vet and suffers from a debilitating back problem and a young vet who has gone back to college but cant forget what he went through over in the sandbox.

As with most books from this author she shows us all sides of the military life. How the VA care isn’t up to the standards it should be, how is looks like once the soldiers come ho

I have read all of Jessica Scott’s romantic fiction books. Her books are an auto-buy for me. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review but I have also placed my preorder.

Before I Fall is a New Adult story and therefore different from her other books. And yet – the writing is the same wonderful story telling that I’ve come to expect. I am well over 50 years old so New Adult stories aren’t ones I typically go for but this is a wonder

I have read the ARC copy I was invited to down load. It was not the whole book, but the beginning of it.
I can say I want to read the whole book and the story that lies within. I like the way that you read the dialog that is going on in the characters heads, as well as what the say out loud. It is nice to see to sides (maybe there are even more that the rest of the book hold) of a situation/situations that many people face in the affects/effects of war. I think many are oblivious to the struggle

Absolutely amazing! An incredibly thought provoking story, heartwarming characters, and a romance that pulls at your heart. Before reading this I have always thought of men and women returning from war as older. This story made me realize the number of young men and women returning and having to face to world after having seen and done things that are truly unforgettable. It also made me really think about how we treat our veterans after they return, and how they should be treated for the rest o ...more

Jessica Scott delivers a wonderful, complex and heart felt story of two people who are damaged in different ways, yet by the same thing. Their military experiences, Noah's experience first hand and Beth's by caring for her veteran father, play an important role in this story. Be prepared to take an emotional journey with this story. Jessica Scott writes with authenticity and compassion about our returning warriors and their loved ones. She has the rare gift of bringing complex issues military members face to readers in a way that helps us understand and this story does just that. I love her characters and I love this story!!!

A very sweet but heartfelt love's true nature gave me insight into the pain and insecure feelings the military have by coming back after serving and trying to fit back in to society....

The author knows first-hand, as she has served, but has a talent for writing and making me, the reader, feel all the emotions. Well done and thanks for your service!!

There were parts of this one of this one that I liked, Beth taking care of her dad. I liked that she was working hard to try to make a better life for them, to find a way to help her father through the pain. I liked Noah at first, but as things went on he sort of became blah. Then when his secret came out it made me not like him as much. Had he talked to Beth about things right away things would have went better for them. But with that being said I did like how this one ended.
Not bad. It was just not up my alley. There was too much reality woven in the story. The dad is a veteran who is addicted to pain pills and they are broke as hell. The H is a veteran with PTSD and also addicted to pills. There was this somber tone throughout the book and frankly that's not something I want when I read romance novels.

I enjoyed this New Adult romance by Jessica Scott. It was a good start to a series. I liked the characters of Beth and Noah. They were a good match, even though both had quite a bit of baggage. I enjoyed watching their romance develop and seeing them work through some personal issues. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
