Eight months ago, John Lawson lost his wife and best friend in a tragic accident on his family's ranch. In the time since, he's devoted himself to two things--taking care of his two newly motherless sons and proving that Lily's accident was no accident. Now, he finally has hard evidence that his wife was murdered and he won't rest until he has the killer's blood on his hands. He doesn't have time for anything but vengeance, especially not a crazy ghost hunter wanting to poke around the old spring on his family's ranch.
Persephone Styles--Percy to her friends--learned about ghosts the hard way, when she was orphaned by a violent crime at the age of seven. Ever since, she's seen spirits and been obsessed with studying souls beyond the grave. She's in Lonesome Point to document the town's spectral activity, but finds herself powerfully drawn to widower John Lawson and empathizing with his grieving children. For the first time in years, Percy is as riveted by the living as she's always been by the dead and longs to be a part of John's life.
But when one night of passion becomes something more, Percy realizes John is as haunted as she is and that the man she's coming to love is walking a dangerous road that may end with him becoming a murderer's next victim.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary romances she loves to read.
She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.
When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.
John Lawson is a broken man. Having lost the love of his life, he's having a hard time putting the pieces of his life back together. Although Lonesome Point law enforcement has ruled Lily's death an accident, John is sure that there is more to the story, and lives for the moments that he meets Lily in the in-between, the space between waking and sleeping.
Persephone 'Percy' Styles has a gift. Able to communicate with the spirit world, and having spent all of her time with those no longer here, she's ready to focus on the living, and to bring comfort to a man she doesn't even know. After encountering a psychic exchange between John and Lily, Percy feels called to visit Lonesome Point and to help John heal, and Lily to pass over to the next world.
The Lonesome Point, TX, series by Jessie Evans has been a favorite of mine since the first book. Small-town life, quirky and loveable characters, mystery and intrigue, and, oh, yes, absolutely swoony cowboys and the ladies that are lucky enough to capture their hearts, make for a winning combination at every level.
I have loved each and every book in this series, but the Lawson brothers hold a special place in my heart. Loving, loyal, and completely committed to family, these three men are truly something. John, the eldest, is the rock of the family, the man that had stepped in when his father died, who has always been there for his mother and brothers, and who had found happiness with his true love only to have it ripped away. Losing Lily has thrown him into a tailspin, and the feeling that her death was no accident has kept him from being able to move on. When Percy shows up, he wants nothing to do with her particular brand of 'help,' figuring her for a nutcase, and pushes her away.
"I understand that's not part of your belief system," she said. "And I can respect that, but I have reason to believe there are spirits here who need my help and I'd like to stay until they feel safe enough to make contact."
"Safe enough to make contact," he echoed, his next breath emerging with a huff. "What are they going to do, come whisper in your ear?"
"Something like that," she said, lifting her chin.
Percy quickly shows that she is what she says, and John, eager for answers, and intrigued by Percy and her gifts, finds himself working with her to unravel the mystery of Lily's death.
This wouldn't be a Jessie Evans book without a sweet, sexy, and heart-melting romance, and she does not disappoint. Almost from the beginning, John finds himself drawn to Percy, not only as someone to help him in his quest, but as a woman. She is unlike no one he's known before, but his guilt over being attracted to her is a major stumbling block. Percy, for her part, has never felt the way she does about John for anyone else, and is determined to show him that his place is in the here and now, with her.
"...You deserve better than a man who doesn't know if he'll ever be able to love someone else again."
"Maybe I don't want better...And I know I don't want to leave. I want to stay until you get your answers."
"I care about you, Percy," he said, his chest aching as his heart stretched in two different directions. "I don't want to see you hurt, and I especially don't want to be the one doing the hurting."
"If you ask me to leave again, you will hurt me," she said. "I need to see this through. Not just for you, but for me too. I need to see where this goes. Not just the investigation, but this. Us."
Ropes and Revenge is the last book in the Lonesome Point series, and, although I am sad to see this series end, I am completely satisfied with the way that everything is wrapped up. I'm excited to be able to say that I will get to revisit the characters and place that I have come to love, as Jessie will be writing an off-shoot series based on the children of Lonesome Point. What could be better than a whole new generation of people to love? As ever, 5+ 'happily ever after, what a fantastic story' stars for Jessie Evans and Lonesome Point, TX.
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
Although all the books in this series can be read as a stand alone book, I would recommend that you read Chaps & Chance before this one so that you can understand how and why John lost his wife Lily eight months ago.
After having lost his beloved wife, John has become a shadow of himself and is still struggling to cope without her. Even though the police have ruled Lily's death as an accident, John is convinced that she was murdered and is still trying to find that missing clue.
Percy is a ghost hunter that works for free to help trapped souls move to the other side. She has read of the curse on the Lawson ranch and is there do see if she can do anything to help. Percy is mot really used to the living and is used to being scoffed and laughed at, but Lonesome Point is different from the beginning. They welcome her and befriend her, especially as she proves her validity in her work.
John and Percy work together very quickly after she finds a clue that sends them on the path of enlightenment to lily's death and they find themselves getting closer quite quickly, especially as Percy challenges John in ways to bring him back to life again.
We get the element of danger that we get from the previous books and we also get the emotional attachment between the characters to the point that you are routing for them to get together and really wanting that happy ending to happen.
After the epilogue you get a sense of closure from the group of adults, but its great to see the beginning of the spin off series that will focus on the kids and to begin with Peyton and Clem.
I really can't wait to see what happens with the kids :)
Ropes and Revenge – WOW! Another amazing addition to Jessie Evans’ Lonesome Point Texas series. I’ve fallen in love with each of these cowboys as their stories unfold, but John Lawson’s tale was truly remarkable and touching. In book 5 of this series, we learn that John’s wife has been killed and although everyone believes it to have been an accident, he refuses to accept that. Ropes and Revenge takes us through John’s unrelenting hurt and heartbreak as he continues with his obsession to discover to truth behind his wife’s death.
Persephone “Percy” Styles has spent her life trying to assist the souls left behind after death while continuing to live with the childhood loss she has suffered from as well. So when she decides to visit Lonesome Point Texas hoping to learn more about the ghost town and its spirits, Percy meets John and soon discovers the horrible tragedy he (and his two boys) has also suffered. Although Percy has always dealt with spirits more easily than she does with the living, she has always longed to experience something more, and quickly senses a connection with John. Despite John’s disbelief in the existence of a spirit world which makes him angrily lash out at Percy because of her presence in Lonesome Point, he quickly feels drawn to her as well.
As they begin to work together, both John and Percy feel their connection (and attraction) continuing to grow. But even with the budding affection they feel for one another, John continues to keep the walls erected around his heart refusing to let Percy all the way in. But as they begin to get closer to solving the mystery, the danger to them both increases making John realize he could lose this precious woman who has finally brought his soul back to life and a new love into his heart.
When I initially read the synopsis, I could feel a hesitation within myself as I was concerned that John, having lost his wife only seven months prior and now falling for Percy, that I would find it difficult to experience any compassion for him and also questioned whether I would truly be pulling for them to be together. But not surprisingly, Ms. Evans quickly vaporized my uncertainty as John’s continued struggle with his feelings for Percy as well as the deep seeded love for his wife hastily captivated my heart. And what seemed to be an immediate spiritual connection between them (not to mention the hot and sexy scenes between them as well) had me hoping for and looking forward to their happily-ever-after.
Although this story would fall under the category of contemporary romance, Ropes and Revenge it is so much more than that, filled with heartache, compassion and friendship as well as on the edge of your seat, nail biting suspense. Every time I finish a book in this series, I’m left wondering how Ms. Evans will ever surpass the stories she has already given us. But she has once again soared beyond and written another spectacular book. Although Ropes and Revenge can be read as a standalone, I sincerely recommend starting at the beginning of this series as meeting each of these characters in the preceding novels lends so much more to each of these stories making me feel like I am part of their world, absolutely enjoying and loving every minute of it.
I have read the whole Lonesome Point Texas Series and l have loved each and every one of them. They all have a unique story behind the love story. You can read them as standalone including Ropes & Revenge but I do recommend you read Chaps & Chance first to get to know Lily and the background of her death.
John lost his wife seven months ago and he still doesn't believe it was an accident. He is convinced she was murdered but can not find any solid proof. He is consumed to find out the truth and to also be there for his two young sons. John's family is worried about him since he is not acting himself but also understand he has to grieve for the love of his life. They just wish he would live and have hope that happiness will come around again...He didn't believe it until he laid eyes of Persephone.
Persephone "Percy" is a ghost whisperer and travels the world to help ghosts move on to the other side of the veil. She connects with them and brings them peace before they leave this side. She is now in Lonesome Point to spend some time on Lawson Ranch and the Old Ghost Town. She thought she would only be there for one week but when she meets John Lawson things change. She has a feeling that there is a reason why she is there and it is to help John and maybe even herself.
John and Percy want to find out who murdered Lily and now that Percy has found proof, it gets the mystery going in the right direction. But John doesn't want Percy to be the next victim if they get too close to the truth. He cares about her too much. He didn't think he would ever care for someone after losing Lily but then again he didn't think he would met someone like Percy. She is different. She is there to help a family that she didn't even know when she got to town and won't quit until the mystery is solved and ghosts are at peace.
I loved John and Percy's story! I love a good mystery and throw in love and I am done for. Percy is kick ass and love that she is different in the best ways. She also wants to live with the living and not just ghosts and her past. And then there is John, he is sexy, sweet and cares so much for his family. He is so confused. About Lily and Percy and what to do next.
So many questions in this one! Will they find the killer before he strikes again? Will John push Percy away or will he not be able to let her go? Has Percy found her place in the world after traveling and being on her own for so long?
Overall...thIs novel is full of mystery, love and family. It was great to see the rest of the gang in town and catching up with them. There is also a surprise at the end and I am super excited about it.
Quotes:
Life can be cruel, but death isn’t an end. And love is never a mistake.
Maybe she wasn’t simply meant to help John get his life back on track. Maybe he was going to teach her a thing or two, as well.
“Give me something real to remember. Make me feel alive. Even if it’s only for a night.”
The Lonesome Point, TX series is one of my favorites. Jessie Evans knows how to write a sexy cowboy! Her writing gets better with every book and Ropes and Revenge has the most heart of the series, and the most suspense. John lost his wife, Lily, seven months ago in a tragic accident. Well, John doesn’t think it was an accident and he's been trying to prove it. Persephone is a psychic and she comes to Lonesome Point, a well-known haunted place, to help restless spirits cross over to the other side. When John meets her he's mad that she's on his land and he's rude to her. He's also attracted to her and that scares him. John gets a chance to apologize to Percy, and something sparks between them. She vows to help him find out who killed Lily. They form a fast friendship and Percy realizes that she wants him. John is dealing with the loss of his wife and finding her killer and now with the guilt of having feelings for Percy. Things heat up between John and Percy while they search for evidence of the killer. John wants to keep her safe and she instantly becomes one of the family. She's different than any woman he's ever known. Different than his late wife and he doesn’t know what to do with his feelings. Will John let himself find love again before it's too late? Will Percy be able to find the killer and help John move forward? Percy is smart and funny and John is sexy and serious. They complement each other perfectly! John learns to let laughter into his life again and Percy realizes that she's not her past. This story is the ultimate second chance at love story. It's possible to find love twice in a lifetime and even if it's scary, you have to make the jump!! This was the perfect way to close out the series. There are some surprises in store for other residents of Lonesome Point and I can't wait to find out what they are!
She tasted like mercy and forgetfulness, and for the first time in forever, John found himself completely lost in a moment.
"Because I don’t want anyone to hear the hungry sounds you make when we're kissing except me." Percy's breath rushed out. "I make sounds?" "Sexy little whimpers and moans," John continued in that rough whisper that threatened to undo her.
"Never," John said. "I like your naughty side. And your sweet side. And the side that bosses me around when I'm being an short-sighted asshole."
I did it again. I fell for Jessie Evans' newest cowboy, and fell damn hard too. I figured Ropes and Revenge would be an emotional read at times, as well as a sexy, steamy, spooky one and I was right. It was all those things. Which made it great.
Months after losing his wife, his best friend, in what the police ruled an accident, John Lawson remains convinced that Lily was murdered. And between working his ranch and caring for his sons, he's determined to prove it.
When Persephone Style comes to Lonesome Point to check out the ghosts and ghost town, John refuses to get involved with her other-worldly activities.
But they are each drawn to the other in a way neither was expecting. Percy wants to help the grieving John find answers and John must keep Percy safe from those that murdered Lily.
Will the search for the truth become a game that neither will survive?
I loved this book! I read it in one sitting, desperate to know what happened to Lily, what would happen to John and Percy, and whodunnit. It was a fantastic mystery -- I was sure I'd figure it out, and yet, I didn't until the very end.
And ugh, my heart. It just about broke when John lost his wife, and the prologue settled an ache in my chest that only a dash of sex and sweet steam could cure. Thank goodness Ms. Evans delivered that.
John and Percy were lovely together. I simply adored Percy, with her good, strong heart that had already borne so much. And John... Oh, John! Ms. Evans showed a man grieving but made his falling for a new woman believable, natural, and kinda swoony. He tried to resist, but couldn't. Whew! There was no question that these two belonged together even though you knew John would always love his Lily too. Beautiful.
The ending was edge-of-your-seat fun and suspenseful, and a little spooky. Also, romantic and perfect for Percy and John. And that epilogue! It left me wanting the Lonesome Point, Texas spin-off ASAP because I need to know what Clementine's going to say!! ~ Beth, 5 stars
I love my Lonesome Point cowboys, especially the Lawson men. John is the eldest of the Lawson men. The strong, loving, reliable, brother, son and husband. He was happily married to Lily, together raising their two sons and taking care of the Lawson family ranch. Then tragedy took Lily away from John in a so called accident. John not believing Lily's death was an accident spent everyday since her death, 7 months ago, trying to find evidence that the love of his life was murdered, always coming up with nothing. However deep down in his gut he knew he was right and wouldn't stop until he could prove it. Persephone "Percy," the world traveling ghost whisperer, is the last person John expects will help him prove his suspecions and the last person he ever expected to fall in love with. Percy has spent her life, since the age of seven, helping lost souls find their way to the other side. So consumed with the dead, Percy feels stuck and lost in the world she is living in. While visiting Lonesome Point to study the old ghost town's activities, she is drawn to the Lawson Ranch and widower John. Along with her desire to help John find out what happened to his wife, Percy also begins to feel alive and wanting a life with John. John also feels an instant connection with Percy, but his love for Lily prevents him from totally giving himself to her. The longer John and Percy spend time together, the more information they gather to finding who caused Lily's death, and the stronger their connection grows. Can John love two woman at the same time? Will Percy finally get her happily ever after and find a place she can call home? Will Lily's murderers be brought to justice? I LOVED John and Percy's story! This one was so different from the other Lonesome Point stories in a very good way. Jessie Evans brought endless upon endless mystery, love, grief, and hope in Ropes and Revenge. In the end, we are left with this burning question, "What is in that box?"
Can a broken heart be open to new love? 5++++++ stars
I have been looking forward to John's book ever since Cole's story. It helped to tie up those pesky loose ends that were still hanging around and it let's us all know that the heart always has more room for love. I have an Uncle that passed over 30 years ago, but to this day, his wife, my Aunt, has never looked at another man and to me that is so beautiful, but sad at the same time.
This story reminded me of an old saying (or poem) that I heard a long time ago. People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime and love is blind, but friendship is clairvoyant. It was an pleasure to 'meet' Lily in Cole's story and a deep honor to see how much John loved her.
I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, but you will definitely want to have a box of tissues with you when you read this. And believe me, you will WANT to read this one slowly so you can savor it.
I am certainly looking forward to Clem's book and finding out what was in that box that she had to wait 15 years for. Something tells me we aren't done with all the secrets of Lonesome Point, and that's just fine with me. Jessie can keep writing them and I will gladly keep reading them.

Ropes and Revenge, Lonesome Point, Texas #6 was so amazing… John is now my favorite Lawson… In Chaps and Chance, Lonesome Point #5, John Lawson lost his wife. It was ruled an accident, but John is convinced foul play was involved. Now in Rope and Revenge John is just going through the motions of life and fatherhood 7 months later and he is still struggling to find any evidence to support his belief that his wife was murdered. Persephone a/k/a Percy, a ghost whisperer, makes her way to Lonesome Point after a dream she has about a man even though she doesn’t even know his name or what he looks like. Soon after she is gone he regrets the way he treated her. These two are drawn to each other, but John feels guilty. Can these two work together to uncover what happened to John’s wife, can these two find a way to be together? This is probably my favorite of the Lonesome Point series, it is emotional and exhilarating all at the same time. I loved how Jessie Evans unfolded this story for John!
Excellent story! After the horrific loss of his wife, John Lawson is floating through life. With two young sons depending on him he really needs to get it together. He couldn't, however, give up on the gut feeling that Lily's death wasn't an accident or his deep need for justice. When that mysterious ghost whisperer Percy Styles comes to town he is skeptical but when she begins uncovering clues that could help him prove Lily's murder he begins spending more and more time with her. As need sparks to life, he is not sure he is ready to move on just yet and has to fight those inner demons.
This is a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.
The Lonesome Point series just keeps getting better and better. All can be read as stand-alones, but I agree that you should pick up Chaps and Chance first for back story before reading Ropes and Revenge. These books are not to be missed. John is broken-hearted and wary of the abilities of Percy and second chance love is always bittersweet. This book was suspenseful, hot, romantic, steamy - did I mention HOT! I loved all the characters and this book kept you guessing until the end. Can't wait to see what happens with the next generation of Lonesome Pointers. If you love cowboys, romance and a little paranormal (really who doesn't) - you HAVE to check this out!!
mmm John.... I just wanna give John a big hug. after the tragic death of his wife, can he find a second chance at love? Percy, the ghost whisper or spooky (love that nickname) a great personable character that just needs a place to belong. I really enjoyed getting to know both these characters and seeing the other characters from before. the plot keeps you turning the page, waiting for what happens next. I love Jessie Evans books. I cannot put them down once started.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Riveting story, excellent plot, fantastic romance. I can't say enough good things about this book! It was a great read and absolutely five stars. Once again, Jessie Evans does not disappoint. Highly highly recommend the Lonesome Point series as a whole.
I have said numerous times that I love Jessie Evans. That said, I was a little hesitant to start this one, I am not always a fan of books where someone's long time love dies and they find love again so soon. No, I don't think that there is a specific amount of time that someone should grieve, but sometimes authors seem to push a new love on a character when they just don't seem ready. This was not one of those times, they fit together and is wasn't rushed or forced. John lost his wife Lily in the previous book in the series and even though it was ruled an accident he just hasn't been able to accept it. He has become a shell of the man he once was in pursuit of finding out the truth about his wife's death. Enter Percy, or the Ghost Whisperer as she is often referred to in Ropes and Revenge, a woman whose life work is to help restless souls cross-over. She heads to Lonesome Point to see if there are any souls in need of help because of the town's various ghost legends. There she meets John and set out to help him in his quest for the truth. This book is packed full with suspense, heart, sexiness, and paranormal activity. I am usually able to identify "who done it" in books, but this one surprised me. I enjoyed reading Ropes and Revenge and had some trouble putting it done to make dinner that night. :)
I'm sad to see this generation in Lonesome Point end. I've loved this series so much and this story didn't disappoint. Emotions are strong in this one with John moving on after losing his wife or at least he is trying to. He's having a hard time because he believes his wife was murdered, but there is no evidence to prove it. In comes Percy who can communicate with ghosts and she wants to do everything she can to help John and his sons the closure they need. The closer they get to the truth more dangerous it gets with the culprits on the lose. Can they solve the mystery before someone else losses their life? I was pretty surprised with who was behind it, didn't see it coming. I loved Percy for what she has endured to still have that sweet heart of hers. I loved the bonding she had with John's son, so sweet. I loved how the epilogue set up for the next generation and super excited to see who has the first book. Also I have to mention I love the yummy cover!!
I liked Percy's ways of persuasion, "I’m not a child, and my eyes are wide open.” Her palms slid down his chest, over his stomach, until her hands slipped beneath the bottom of his tee shirt." John is quite the romantic with his words, "sexy little whimpers and moans,” John continued in that rough whisper that threatened to undo her. “Just thinking about them is enough to give me a hard-on that won’t quit." I loved this book it had a little paranormal twist that I enjoyed.
I have read the whole Lonesome Point Texas Series and l have loved each and every one of them. They all have a unique story behind the love story. Ropes and Revenge (Lonesome Point TX #6) By: Jessie Evans 4/5 stars
When John Lawson’s wife Lily was killed in what appeared to be an ATV accident, he wasn’t able to let her death go, because in his gut, it doesn’t feel like her death was an accident. But the police department quickly ruled it an accident and shelved any and all investigations. But searching for clues and hints around the scene of Lily’s death has consumed any & all of his free time. His mother is concerned about him, but dutifully watches his 2 young sons.
Percy Styles has the unique ability of being able to communicate with deceased spirits and can help them cross to the other side if their spirits are still wandering Earth. She was contracted to work the Old Ghost Town in Lonesome Point, Texas. But John’s mother also invited Percy to come to the Lawson family ranch to possibly communicate with the Native American spirits of men, women & children who were massacred around the natural pond/pool a century ago.
John & Percy had a rough start and Percy is as determined to help John as he is to keep her at a distance. Percy will help no matter how much John pushes her away. She can also help out at other places in town, not just on the Lawson ranch. But Percy does believe John about Lily’s death and agrees to help John search for clues and investigate. John is stubborn, but is taking notice of Percy and is confused about his new & growing feelings towards her. John also knows that he will never stop loving Lily and doesn’t believe that there is room in his broken heart for another woman. But John has physical needs that have been unmet since his wife’s death. And he does know how to deal with those with Percy.
But lines get blurred and John & Percy become close and are in a confusing non-relationship relationship. And as they get closer to figuring out who was behind Lily’s death, the danger will be heating up around them. John has to worry about his sons, his mother, brother & sister-in-law and Percy, who he is becoming attached to.
The reason that this was only a 4 star for me, was that it was the last book in the series and I like to see all of the characters just as like a happy ending recap. But also the time jump from the last chapter to the epilogue was too much. I felt like we lost some of the HEA for John & Percy.
However, I’m happy to know that there may be a spin-off series coming out of this series. There will be a book about 1 of the kids at least & that teaser is in the epilogue!
John Lawson lost the love of his life seven months ago, he still haven't cried YET.....John vowed to find out who was responsible for taking Lily away from him and their sons.
Persephone "Percy" Styles a woman who can communicate with souls that have passed away, while in one of her dreams she felt John's agony as he woke up from his dream of Lily.....Percy found her way to Lawsons Ranch and the feeling she had in her dream grew stronger.
John didn't like the idea of having Percy on the ranch but more so he didn't believe in ghosts, the former was attracted to the latter....He wanted nothing else than to believe in ghosts so he could get a chance to talk to his beloved Lily one last time. Percy knew that John was hurting and all she wanted to do was help him heal and move on, his hurt was so deep that she wondered how to help him out of the darkness he found himself in.
Percy found herself enjoying spending time with John, the more they got to know each other the more the attraction between them grew....John was afraid to take a step closer to letting Percy in cause it would mean taking a step further away from Lily which he couldn't let happened.
Eventually John and Percy gave into their attraction and took an intimate step, Percy was able to break through John's walls.....for the first since Lily's death, John shed tears. Despite his growing feelings for Percy, John was keeping her at arms length cause he wouldn't be able to handle losing another person he loved.
Percy found herself falling in love with not only John but his two adorable children (Carter and Peyton) as well being around them felt so right like she belonged there....John despite loving Percy, he pushed her away cause he thought he didn't have anything to offer her.
Separately John and Percy found out who Lily's murder was, the former found herself in danger while the latter came to her rescue with the help of a dear one.
It was a delight to see some familiar names along with John and Percy's story..... Ropes and Revenge was a bittersweet one, John was able to get justice for Lily and fall in love again with Percy. What a beautiful way to say goodbye to the ones who came to mean so much to us and to have hope for the next generation of Lonesome Point. Jessie Evans did a magnificent job!
I have so many mixed emotions writing this review. I mean this is the last book in the Lonesome Point Texas series. Well at least for now..... And gosh I couldn't wait to get my grubby hands on a copy of this book. Ever since I finished reading Layla and Cole's story, I couldn't wait to read this one.
John who is the eldest of the Lawson boy's and had taken over the family ranch after his father died. And has pretty much been the rock that his family has needed. My heart broke for John when he lost his wife Lily in Cole and Layla's story. He's just kind of lost in the beginning of this story. He's still trying to prove his wife was murdered. I loved seeing John turn back into himself after meeting Percy. Though there were times I felt he was being a tad stubborn, but that was understandable.
I loved Persephone or Percy as she likes to be called. She's kind of the oddball, but in a good way. She's sweet, caring, open and understanding. I loved how she didn't give up on John and was understanding with him. I loved how she wasn't trying to replace Lily and wanted to show John that it was possible to fall in love with two people.
I loved this whole book and I love all of the character's the author Jessie Evan's has written in this series. Or I should say all of the Lawson character's. Mrs. Evan's definitely has a talent for writing a cowboy you can't help falling in love with. I loved that this book had the sense that no matter happens that everyone is capable of opening there hearts again and finding love again.
I'm giving this book 5 Out of 5 Stars and would recommend reading the whole series. And even though this generation of the series is over. I can't wait to read the next generation.
***I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review***
I've been a fan of the Lonesome Point books for some time and Ropes and Revenge was worth waiting for. John and Percy's story was fantastic. While this book can standalone, I would recommend reading Chaps and Chance first so you understand John's backstory better.
After losing his wife several months before, John is still not really living. He's going through the motions to make sure his two young boys are cared for, but what he's really after is proving that his wife, Lily, was murdered, that she didn't die in a tragic accident. While most of the people in his life feel he just hasn't moved on, there is something that keeps driving John toward what he believes is the truth.
Persephone "Percy" Styles is a ghost hunter who is on her way to Lonesome Point to visit the Lawson ranch, but also the Ghost town that Mia's grandmother owned. Once she hits town, she knows this is where she is supposed to be, but it isn't until she meets John, and then hears his story from one of the locals, that she realizes that he may be the real reason she is there. Not only is she attracted to him, but she may very well be able to help him, as she believes that he is right about the circumstances surrounding his wife's death.
As John and Percy grow closer to finding out really what happened to Lily, they also grow closer to one another. The question is, is John ready for a new relationship and will digging into Lily's murder end up putting Percy in danger? And, in the end, are these two really meant to be together?
Jessie Evans wrote a wonderful story. I enjoyed the air of mystery that was thrown into this story along with the well developed characters that I'm accustomed to. This is definitely my favorite book in the Lonesome Point series and I can't wait for the kids of Lonesome Point to get their own books beginning later this year!
OMG I just finished Ropes and Revenge and wow, I totally loved it. And it was different. But still classic Jessie Evans and Lonesome Point, Texas. And I loved it. Can you tell?
One major difference from anything I’ve read before is that Percy is a ghost whisperer. And while paranormal isn’t I would normally read, I loved it. It just enough to not freak me out too much. And I have to say, I love Percy. I love how she is with John and the boys. I love how she is just an easy going, everyone loves her, type of person. She is an outside to Lonesome Point and she has an interesting job as a ghost whisperer, but the way she is, her personality, she is just an easy to love person.
John, we met John before and we know his heartbreaking story. But I have to say, I’m so glad Percy came into his life. It helped him mourn and heal and come back to who he was. Yes, he is different. Anyone who went through his loss would be. But after meeting Percy, he has come out stronger.
Jessie Evans did an awesome job at putting the paranormal within this story. She has actually made me want to read more paranormal. She got me interested now. And this story, after reading Chaps and Chance, I really wasn’t sure how it was going to go. But she did justice to John and his situation. She did justice to memories. And as sad as I am for this series to be over, I’m so glad there is going to be a spinoff. I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to Lonesome Point.
When I heard this might be the last in the Lonesome Point series my disappointment knew no bounds. When I started John's story I wanted to read it slowly to savor it as long as I could but I should have known that would not happen. I LOVE this series and this installment is my new favourite! I say that for each book but it's always true.
I don't know what words I have not said already to describe the the previous books but I have to find them for another great read. John's heartache became mine as his grief and need to make things right for him and his boys knew no limits. Percy is such a quirky, likable character that you could see why John was so torn. His wife had been gone for less than a year and his conflict was clear but love is love is love. United in their need to find answers, their attraction to each other was clear though John clearly struggled with his feelings. Cowboys and ghost hunters make an unbeatable combination in this entertaining story which has immediately gone on the reread shelf.
John Lawson...mmmmm I thought maybe Cole was my favorite Lawson brother but honestly John has probably won out after this one. Damn those Lawson men are stubborn though. I could not put this book down. I HAD to know how it ended.
We know John as the level-headed, consistent brother running the Lawson family farm from the previous Lonesome Point books. But then in walks Persephone (Percy), a "ghost whisperer" of sorts. A true sensitive to those on the other side. She steps in to help John prove that his wife's tragic death was not an accident.
This story follows John as he struggles with finding his wife's killer, being a good father to his two boys, and learning to love again. And Percy, as she comes to terms with her past and finds her place in the world. If this was a paperback I would have thrown it a time or two...it was so easy to get into the story and start rooting for John and Percy.
I didn't expect the twist thrown in, but then again I never really know what's coming in Jessie's books. Keeps me on my toes and swiping pages as fast as I can read them.
Wow.. talk about a pleasant surprise! I came across this book on a blog tour and thought the blurb sounded interesting. I must say that it lived up to all of the great reviews I read. This book a little bit of everything: Suspense, ghosts, love, loss, heartache, and laughter. I loved how each page made me want to read more and more.
John's story was so heart-wrenching and anyone who has every lost anyone that they love can relate to his heartache and need for closure and self-imposed seclusion. I loved Percy and how she stood up to John immediately, though she was in the business of ghosts and paranormal investigation she didn't let the doubters and naysayers get her down or detour her from moving forward with what she believed was the right thing to do.
This story of love, strength, and perseverance was beautifully written and I highly recommend it!
It's no secret that I'm a huge Lonesome Point fan, but I'll say that I was heartbroken to hear that this was the last installment. That being said, Jessie ended it beautifully. I honestly could not have hoped for more out of the conclusion of the books that held so many characters I'd come to love. It was just perfect. Your heart will break for John. You'll cheer for Percy. And the twists and turns that Evan's is so spectacular at blindsiding you with will take your breath away. Buy this book. Seriously. No! Actually, go back and buy Leather and Lace, where it all began, and start from there. If you love romance- the epic, consuming, heart-wrenching kind that grabs you by the feels and never lets go... then the Lonesome Point series is for you
