This book very quickly bewitched me. I defy anyone who reads the first eight chapters to put it down after that.
Very briefly, the outline is thus: Fourteen Victorian houses along the coast stand cold and empty every winter. This is when they share their stories; kindling to keep them warm when they lie vacant and unloved.
Their stories are violent and terrible. Children murdered in the attic. Satan worship in the basement. A ship-hold of slaves killed within sight of shore. A young woman ground

Sarah has come off a bad break up and heads to the old house on the shore to get away from it all. Nathan decides he needs a vacation and heads to the family place at the shore. The weather is cold and the beach is mostly deserted but somehow Nathan and Sarah meet. They share a lovely dinner and want to share more.

Unfortunately the houses where they are vacationing have other things in mind. The houses are alive with voices. We hear the voices at the beginning or end of each chapter. The houses

Wow I just realized I started this book a long time ago. The first chapter or two are kind meh so I put it down and read some other books. However I started reading it again and I am so glad it did, this had twists, this had really unique story ideas that I had not read before.

Houses that can talk to each other, and DO talk to people if they feel so inclined.

For me, The Sisters, by Don Sloan started off a little bit rough. I had some trouble understanding what the Sisters were saying, so it was causing me confusion as to what was going on. The way Sloane had it formatted threw me off a little bit, but eventually I caught on to what was going on and ended up completely enjoying this book.

This story is very creepy. The Sisters each have their own stories and Sloan does a great job of giving us just enough info at the right moment without giving away

Sarah Claymore has decided to take a break for a couple of weeks away at the house on the shoreline she has inherited in Cape May. Nathan has also decided to get away to the house he inherited from his aunt in Cape May. When they meet, Sarah is drawn to the only other person she has encountered along the shoreline after experiencing a rather lucid nightmare but the longer Nathan and Sarah stay at their houses in Cape May the stranger their dreams get and the more sinister their houses seem.

The Sisters was an enjoyable read and has an underlying interesting concept of witchcraft/hauntings. It is truly a unique concept, but I do not want to say to give away the story. The story follows two neighbors who happen to be visiting their beach front homes in the heart of winter when know one else is around. Both are going through issues of their own. Nathan is a loner, who is taking his two week vacation from a CPA firm. He is in the process of cleaning up the house he just inherited from ...more

A friend recommended Sisters to me, and although horror is not a genre I usually read, I decided to take a chance based on her say so. I’m glad that I did.
I’ve noticed that other reviewers have laid out the story line, so I’ll not waste your time by repeating something you can read elsewhere. I’d like to discuss the craftsmanship of Mr. Sloan’s writing.
First of all, the device of having the houses speak among themselves is pure genius. At first it is confusing, but that is only momentary. Also,
