It’s giving “The Scarlet Letter” if Dimmesdale wasn’t such a little b**** about being horny.

The horny priest book we all deserve. Because not only is it horny, it’s incredibly well researched and thought out. Anyone who grew up in the church and/or had an unhealthy fixation with the various witch trials is going to twitch and feel some rage.

But the best part is the way it’s all layered together to be a story of power and strength, and how to fight against systems of oppression when you seem to have none. A book with female rage, a hot and horny priest, and a “this whole system is garbage and has GOT to go” attitude? I mean come on. What more do you want???

This was a solid read about the times of witch trials. A witch and a priest fighting feelings for each other, trying to fight temptation and sin. There was a bit of religious aspect to it and the end was…..interesting. Quite a bit milder than Devoured.

If you're looking for something dark, fairly blasphemous, hot, and full of feminine rage for this Easter, look no further because Ava Thorne has once again delivered a scorcher of a novella in her Pythnissam Filia series. This time set during the Bamberg Witch Trials, our main character is Katharina, daughter of a condemned witch, trying her best to keep her head down and survive while helping what women she can with her knowledge of herbcraft and folk medicine. The two spots of joy in her life are taking care of Leibchen, the nunnery's cow, and her Latin lessons with the handsome and caring Father Heinrich.

The care and building heat between Katharina and Heinrich is palpable, made only more potent by the danger and how forbidden it is. When it culminates though, someone extra comes in through the cracks and drives this relationship to both new heights and depths of depravity.

I'm glad Heinrich and the demon--I assume Lucifer--got separated in the end for an especially smutty scene, but honestly, I wish they would have been split sooner so the Ot3 relationship could have been explored more. We get a little bit of that in the last chapter, but most of it after Katharina learns the truth is her begging the demon to bring Heinrich back to her.

I'll let the novella's own words speak for the relationship itself and why it feels so satisfying:

My angel loved me the way a predator loves its chosen prey....He loved the parts of me that were difficult and sharp and dangerous, the parts that other people had asked me to hide...He wanted all of it, the hunger and the fury and the raw unfinished edges, and his wanting had no ceiling and no apology.

Heinrich's love was different. It was the thing that stands between you and the cold ...He had believed in my goodness when I had not believed in it myself, had seen the shape of what I was becoming and guarded it quietly, asking nothing, simply remaining. His devotion was the oldest kind. The kind that does not require reciprocation.

And in all this of course is also a story of a woman triumphing over an unjust system and burning it all down--very cathartic in this day and age. Check this book out if you want to scream and enjoy a good demon romance at the same time.

The tropes are delicious - some of my favorites: angel x demon, feminine rage, PRIEST 🥵, gothic romance, forbidden love, just to name a few.

This contains SPOILERS so do not attempt to read more if you don't want this book spoiled.

The author hooked me the first 40% as it involves Bamberg Witch trials and the FMC being an accused daughter of a witch burned at the stake 10 years ago and how she heals those in pain. She has no voice. Because religion is 💩 and men rule in religion. She keeps hearing her mother's voice telling her to stay in the shadows until the 3rd part of this book.

Heinrich, a very hot, shy dude priest. I mean, Father? He was always pining for Katherina and I highly doubt he would have expressed those thoughts if the Devil hadn't possessed him in the forest. The rebellion in this book is from both sides and is so quiet. My brain needed more and the intensity was low.


The spice is.. mild. I'll add a star because there is a huge lack of period oral and sex in general (it's hot, okay? we need more of this. it's natural. you will not shut me up about this) and Father Heinrich partakes with his fingers and mouth on an alter, I believe?

Halfway through, I found myself bored. I'm actually very upset about this. More and more people (esp women) are being taken and killed by the church, and Katherina is too cripped to do anything despite wanting to.


Possessed Heinrich knows that Katarina is capable of as a woman and a witch, but she of course, hears her mother's voice yet again until she tells her mom's voice to fuck off AT 70-ish% when she summons fire in the backyard and is held captive to be executed by the church.

I began to stop and skim there because she had someone that believed in her (even if it was possessed Heinrich, lol) and it took her getting captive and having sex with angel and demon Heinrich to .. believe in herself and her capabilities 😭 Okay, I guess getting a good dicking will do that right 😂

This was so good! All the temptation between a priest and parishioner the yearning for each other even though it’s all forbidden. Captured me from the start. Like who doesn’t turn to temptation? I’m a non practicing catholic and this hit me hard. I enjoyed the era of this story. It made me picture myself being there even though it definitely wasn’t ideal for women in that time period. I’m sure if we were all there most of us would be accused for witchcraft.

My heart broke for Katharina losing her mother at such a young age. I loved how she felt wanted from Father Heinrich even though it’s forbidden. He gave her one thing she wanted. To feel and be loved.

Katharina rage was so strong. I felt for her. She’s only doing good for those around her and people still look down on her because of where she came from. This made me think of a few bible quotes

"Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against any of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.
— Leviticus 19:18.

And also Proverbs 14:21 — "Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor”.

There was so much negativity from the church (other than from Father Hienrich) towards Katharina even though she was taught to help others but keep in the shadows. Made me think did the people from the church even read the bible. Did they truly love God and his work cause it definitely wasn’t showing.

The demon was very forward in his feelings towards Katharina and I loved how devoted he was towards her. Like she was his God. At times I’m thinking is this the demons true feelings of the Fathers that he took over? I just wish that the demon and Father weren’t one for so long. I would’ve loved to see how their relationship would go. The ending made me cry. This is a powerful book full of love, hatred, religion and temptation and I definitely enjoyed it.

I didn’t expect this book to make me cry. I went in assuming I was getting a smutty romance, but it was so much more. The pages were full of emotion, revenge, powerful messaging, and an ending so utterly beautiful 😭 Easily a top read!

Possessed takes place in Bamberg, Germany during the witch trials of 1629 AD. After watching her mother burn at the stake as a child, Katharina is sent to live at the convent. Now an adult, she follows in her mother’s footsteps healing others in secret. She sticks to the shadows, keeps her head down, survives.

Until a forbidden kiss with Father Heinrich during Walpurgisnacht invites the devil in 😈 Suddenly their daily lessons shift from reading Latin to exploring freedom, desire, living without shame. This is where all the smutty bits come in, including a 🩸 scene that was surprisingly one of the hottest things I’ve read 🥵

Wow! What a ride! This book was absolutely brilliant in its concept and its execution. From the beautiful imagery to the biblical references, this book is woven together in a way that takes you beyond the surface of Katherina and Heinrich’s story and drops you right into the center of a story about pushing past limitations, oppression and fear. Choosing to set the story during the Bamburg Witch Trials was perfection as it highlighted the struggles of Katherina as she discovers that she’s more than the little girl that watched her mother die, and she’s more than the supposed ‘witch’ that everyone believes her to be. And Heinrich… oh this sweet, hot, priest of a man. His fight against his own heart as he tries to remain true to his priestly vows is visceral and raw. His decision to give himself over to the devil is one of desperation but not fear and the result is oddly beautiful.
I started this book with no idea what I was getting into and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. This book gave me a demon romance but beyond that it gave me characters that are real and human (with a little demon mixed in). It showed the fear that oppression and power can wield at a time where simply existing as a woman was dangerous. Mostly though, it showed the power of love and how that love can strengthen resolve. Katherina’s ‘this crap needs to stop now’ attitude was the perfect culmination of everything she had lived through and witnessed.
I was so fortunate to be able to read this as an ARC- thank you so much Ava, for this opportunity and this wonderful book.

Katharina is orphaned after her mother was accused of being a witch and burned at the stake. With no other family, she goes to live in a convent with the sisters. She never becomes a nun herself, but she continues in her mother's footsteps to help others as a healer. Katharina cannot help but feel her rage grow at the injustices done to both women and children.

Despite this, Katharina has grown close to Father Heinrich. She meets with him daily and he teaches her Latin. Heinrich has been enchanted by Katharina since they first met. He uses their lesson as an excuse to be near her. They are both drawn to each other, but know that it is forbidden. On Walspurisnacht, Katharina is lured into the woods and Heinrich follows her. They give into a moment of temptation before they are attacked by something.

This was another amazing novella from Ava! I absolutely loved it! There was some spicy blasphemy and deliciousness that I loved! I am obsessed with Katharina and Heinrich. He is such a simp for her. The yearning of their forbidden love was top tier and super hot. Definitely check your triggers first before reading, though!

I love this subject matter, and I was thrilled to read a story set in this era, which has always “fascinated” me.

So forbidden, so tempting. A beautiful sin that was so sinful. Like a tangle of snakes. And each of those snakes was one of my emotions. So many tangled emotions...

"Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned" accompanied me on every page. But actually, that wasn’t it at all. Rather, it awakened what had been there all along. And it was as right as it could possibly be.

A beautiful, historical, emotion-filled story from the era of the infamous witch trials. Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, the Tree of Knowledge, the serpent that whispers, good, evil, an angel... everything came together and made perfect sense.

Those emotions it stirred up in me—I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time to come. It got under my skin, and I don’t think it’ll go away anytime soon.

I’m so thankful to have received an ARC of this book. I loved Neon Flux so much that I signed up for this one immediately, and I’m so glad I did.
I read this from back to back in a day. It’s not a long book, but somehow it still feels slow-paced, which actually really worked for the story. The romance is definitely more of a slow burn, with so much yearning and tension because it’s completely forbidden.
Now let’s talk about this priest…
I never thought in a million years I’d have the hots for a priest named Heinrich, but here we are 😜. There’s way more to this dirty priest than you’d expect, and that confessional chapter is going to live rent-free in my head for a long time.
Katharina is such a strong character. She’s a survivor, and everything she does just screams rebellion.
If you have mixed feelings about religion and you're in the mood for some secret Boom Chicka Wow Wow in a church then you should definitely pick this one up 👏

I have no words

This book is an experience. I read Devoured and knew I loved Ava’s writing, the storytelling, the historical and mythology aspects weaving together to make something beautiful and unique, but Possessed was the same but so much more.

This story has so many elements all carefully crafted and beautifully executed to create characters that love and feel, that rage and fear. The undertones and hidden meanings, truly masterfully placed, only to be revealed by the end.

I have nothing but words of praise, even while the end was painful, it was meant to be, it was always meant to be. And it gives a tale as old as time, a new light, a new beginning to life, to hope of better.

I know I keep gushing and all, but Ava truly outdid herself with this one. I can’t wait for everyone to read it.

This book was perfection. It put me through the five stages of grief, then slapped me in the face with the horny. She gives a ridiculously hot priest with forearms that I want to lick, then made me cry in the next chapter. It was so well balanced and paced that I couldn’t help but continue reading. The analogies given were so poetic, then the imagery provided? Ugh so so good.

You can tell Ava put in research, it was perfectly written. She puts everything in perspective, and for some it maybe blasphemous, but it was a breath of fresh air for me. The build up of rage? The symbolism? The way this book aligns with the current events? It’s perfection.

Thank you so much Ava for allowing me the pleasure to read an ARC! Heinrich was delectable and we Stan a man who supports his woman. Katharina deserves the world, and I hope she continues to take what she wants.

I was fortunate enough to be accepted to read this ARC which I am so grateful for! The historical setting, witch trials, a forbidden love, a gothic romance and improper use of religious artefacts had me squealing with excitement reading, not to mention the feminine rage that was captured so perfectly and does the women of the past justice. The writing style was utter perfection and the use of religious speech felt so authentically real it was so immersive!

I honestly loved the majority of this read but towards the end, it lost me completely. The story headed in a direction that I really really didn’t like, it felt rushed and a little thrown together and it lost its spark and wasn’t what I was expecting at all.

Would I still recommend this? Yes, but go into it with an open mind and don’t expect it to be just a smutty romance

As someone who has been tremendously pained and betrayed by the church, I needed this book! It hit home so hard for me!
The portrayal of how a lot of people abuse and hide behind religion is strong in this! And genuinely not spoken of enough!
I was a teenager the first time the church turned its back on me, so I really connected with Katharina.
Her rage is not only valid, it is what so many woman feel today!
The pain, the fear, the heartbreak, just all of the emotions in this story were painted out so flawlessly!
The beauty in the imagery throughout this entire book, but especially the last couple of chapters is stunning!
I could go on and on about this book!

Okay. . . I'm going to start with, religious trauma is not usually my vibe. I don't participate in any organized religion so I really just focused on the witchy aspect of the book. 


I am on board with any sort of “corruption” fighting against self proclaimed men in power. 


I really enjoyed our witchy FMC, Katharina. She had a hard life and finally accepted her abilities and strength to overcome the evilness holding her down. I loved that the kind hearted MMC let darkness consume him to help her on her path. He loved her with everything he had and willingly fell to his knees for her. 


In all honesty, I didn't quite know where this book was going at the end. The last little bit definitely raised the spice level of the whole book and I did enjoy the way it wrapped up. 


Sometimes you just have to burn it all down and walk away to find the light again.

This one started off SUPER good I was hooked, and you could FEEL it in the writing the emotions of the author. But as soon as I got about 68% into the story it just dropped off and I found myself skimming through and then the story just takes a confusing abrupt left turn, making the ending feel a bit meh. Definitely not as good as the first story in this series, but overall a pretty solid read. As far as the “spice” I wouldn’t say it’s spicy like overall minimal spice but it’s that element of the forbidden that does lead to the steam factor which this one definitely had that. The characters themselves I found the fmc to be kind of like a wave there were some ups and downs of how I felt about her, and the MMC was…well he was like a best friend he was a constant,he didn’t really stand out much and when he did get a hitchhiker, that’s about the point where his pov left the book

Going to try and write this review through my tears…

POSSESSED is filled with emotion and rage. The setting is during the witch trials when, of course, any and all women are being hunted by weak men. Healing and hope are considered witch craft while abuse and torment to these women is praised by their “god”.

Our FMC, Katharina is strong and quietly defiant, until the defiance is LOUD. I loved reading her slowly accepting her fate and desires. It shows that strong women can only be stuffed into a box for so long until they break out and then burn everything down.

The tie-ins to nature were some of my favorite parts of this book, and the footnotes to the verses were such an amazing touch.

This is one of those books you think about for a while!! I’m going to go back and go through all 52 of my highlights.

When I saw this book wasn't what I was expecting I mean it; and I mean it in a good way!

"There are so many things we shouldn't do, and I want to do every single one of them to you."

As someone who has hyper fixated on the witch trials several times, this story not only uses a lot of accurate information, but also pulled some twists you don't see coming. Katherina, although thought she was weak and needs to remain weak to survive, finally takes both what she wants and what she deserves.

If you're looking for a book that takes place during the witch hysteria, is dark, has trauma, a man who would do ANYTHING for her, and you can read in one sitting? I definitely recommend this one.

They never burned witches, they burned women. This book was full of feminine rage by the end and I loved it.

Katharina keeps to the shadows avoiding the attention of the witch hunting priests. Trying to avoid the same fate as her mother

Heinrich is a priest trying to keep his people alive during the witch hunts. Though, he’s ready to risk it all to keep Katharina safe.

She did a great job at showing the fear that gripped that community, and how the fear is twisted and used against them, as well as Katharina’s own keeping her back. That grief can lash out and became ugly and dangerous when provoked.

Loved the twists at the end. Solid read.

The story follows Katharina (a young parishioner whose mother was burned at the stake for witchcraft) and Father Heinrich (a devotee of the church, who takes Katharina under his wing). Set at the height of the witch trials in Germany. A dark and forbidden obsession blooms. Will the fires that ignite set them free or will the temptation prove to be fatal.

Holy cannoli I devoured this book. I couldn't put it down. It was so damn good. The yearning, the forbidden romance, feminine rage and female empowerment, and a man that would do anything for the woman he loves...ugh yes please. When I say I want a Gothic Romance, this is what I want!!!

So, I already loved the author's novella "Devoured," so when the opportunity to read and review her next story came up, I jumped at the chance.

And I devoured it in two nights.

Ava Thorne seems to perfectly nail every dark fantasy come to life. Of course, the story is about the love and forbidden relationship between a priest and parishioner, but it's also deeper than that. It's built on feminine rage, at the injustice of her situation in life, and how she manages to fight back against it and finally break free. Don't we all need some of that spirit right now?

I did not expect to finish this in under 24 hours. Going into this completely blind, I was thoroughly surprised. Religious trauma made this hit hard; a faithful man questioning his God for the abuse of women; an unfortunate daughter of a burned woman punished for her bloodline; the connection between them sparking not only their rebellion but the truth of what they were all along.
Never would I have expected to feel this strongly about a book of this nature. But kudos to Ava for writing something devasting & beautiful.

Ava Thorne has proven to me again that she is a phenomenal writer. You can feel the anger, anguish, and desperation of the characters. There is one scene at the altar that wasn’t my cup of tea, but that didn’t take away from the story. I loved this book and will recommend it again and again.

If you’re needing a story that will mirror your feelings on the state of the world, more specifically the state of the US, this is the book for you. I highly suggest getting the very pretty physical edition in her shop!

Ava did a really good job with the writing, as this takes place during the time of witch trials. This story is so different in many that I’ve read in the past and I really enjoyed how it played out.

Possessed is a dark monster romance novella. The full page image at the beginning was amazing! It takes place in Germany during the 1600's. A mother and daughter are accused of witchcraft because of their livelihood. They help women with herbs in different was. I did struggle a tad because I don't typically read books with religion but I did stick with this one and enjoyed Katharina's story. Definitely check the TW!
