Unlike many books in this genre, this book is exactly what it says in the title. It describes a system of divination using runes. It is refreshingly free of the made-up "history" which takes up so much space in so many wicca/witchcraft books. Instead, after a very brief background, it jumps right into the how-to. The system involves drawing a number of runes from a bag, then holding them over a marked area and dropping them. Divination is done by observing how the runes land and where they land. I found this book and the divination system remarkably accurate for me. Runes are easy to make yourself, and the system "feels good" to me in a very tactile way. Is it "authentic"? Who knows? Not the writers of any of the other books out there, no matter what they claim. There's no shame in being honest and admitting we are making this up as we go along. No one even remotely knows how the Norse "read the bones", and I don't buy into "well I remember this from a past life, so I'm an expert and my way is the one twoo way". Your mileage may vary. My copy is worn and bears many a coffee stain from use.
I have no idea why the other reviewers marked this book so poorly, you'll have to ask them.
As quirky as this book is, it provides an excellent method of divination that I've found to be remarkably accurate. It's good enough that I have 2 copies of it because the binding is pretty shabby and the pages of my go-to copy have come out.
One can rail against the historical accuracies endlessly - but the system works. Period. That's good enough for me.
