The Horn of Avalon

Rate this book
Across the land of Kilghara, the legend of the Dragon King is one known by all. He was the man who brought peace to the lands and united the races of fae and dragon. His bloodline is now carried on by the Dragonborn; a dragon-fae race born of his union with the dragons. The Dragonborn not only carry the legacy of the Dragon King, but the dragons themselves, as the once mighty race is no more.

The lasting peace from the time of the Dragon King may soon come to an end, as a mysterious race of creatures has appeared on the shores of the Mortal Court. These creatures are slowly pushing their way through to the fae lands, killing any in their path. Now, in the face of that threat, the Dragonborn High Lord of the Obsidian Court, Grayson Stormbreaker, is doing everything in his power to re-unite the courts and save the people of Kilghara.

Meanwhile, in a small town on the coast, a fae woman named Rune is doing her best to forget her past and protect the peaceful life she has built. When war comes to her doorstep, heralded by an Obsidian Court soldier, an old friend and lover, will she be able to protect what she cares about, or will she fall back on the self destructive habits she once relied upon to survive?

This story pulled me in quickly and kept me there. With a good balance between brutality and tenderness, the pages are filled with dragons, fae, evil creatures, and struggles between light and dark.

The battle scenes are epic, and the emotional side of the story is just as engaging. Friendships and romance are woven naturally into the plot and these relationships add depth and humanity to the characters, creating a reason to care about what’s at stake beyond the battlefield.

I am waiting with anticipation for the next book in the series.

The Horn of Avalon was one I couldn't put down! Captivating characters who made me feel like I'd known them forever, a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat, and an ending that has me desperate for more. Highly recommend!

Have you ever read a book and thought to yourself "needs more disaster bisexuals'? well, do I have the book for you.

A fresh and fun fantasy, with badass characters, interesting magic, and heartbreaking scenes that will follow you long after you put the book down.

The world feels lived in, with the long lived fae having complex backstories, relationships, and trauma. A battle is looming that has a thousand years of history portending its arrival, and the inter-court politics only serve to feed the eventual hammer fall of war.

Follow Rune and the Obsidian court as they investigate the mysterious return of an ancient Dragon artifact and how it changes the known history of this long extinct race.

In summary, this book has great characters that are fun to get to know, a long and interesting history, both true and traumatic, and false and comforting. It's a delight following these characters as they uncover the past, and I can't wait for book two!

I loved everything about this book. It is a thrilling, fast-paced adventure that pulls you into a dangerous world filled with dragons, deadly creatures, and high-stakes battles. From the beginning, it grips you with tension.

The winged warriors are especially compelling characters—strong, skilled, and fiercely loyal, yet still deeply human in their emotions and struggles.

The author weaves in powerful relationships and love stories that feel natural and meaningful, showing love in many forms.

Overall, this book is an excellent choice for fantasy fans who enjoy epic battles, complex characters, and heartfelt romance. It balances action and emotion beautifully, making it a memorable and engaging read from start to finish.

I wait with bated breath for second and third books.

The Horn of Avalon has an ACOTAR vibe in the sense of the relationship in the group of MC's has that strong connection with a lot of past. There are fae, fated mates, Dragonborn , dragon shifters and many more fantasy characters.

You've got a powerful complex MFC with a heartbreaking past. She is the last of her kind. She breaks through barriers she's built around herself for centuries. The world feels lived in and is easy to slip right into. It's fast paced. You've got history that isn't what it seems, betrayal, heartbreaking backstories. The end leaves on the edge anticipating the next book!

I could not put this book down and finished it in a day!

Ok, 2nd book when? I need it now. This book really exceeded my expectations after randomly coming across a tiktok and thinking "I'll give that a shot".
There is a very modern feel to the characters and how they speak, the sarcasm leaks from the pages and I was floundering in bi panic for half of the book.
It has some self-published quirks like words missing or kind of wordy descriptions/sentences. But once you get used to the tone it just becomes part of the characters personalities.
I finished the last half of this book in 2 days and can't wait to see what happens to Rune following the finale, and I can only imagine how Cyrus will be acting in the aftermath.

A fast-paced fantasy that keeps you hooked. I won't lie and say its the most amazing writing I've ever read, but for a first time author I'm definitely impressed! it left me wanting to read the next book instantly, and really, what more do we want from a series?! Will definitely be keeping an eye on Sarah's tiktok so I know when to expect the next installment!

This book had all the elements that I love to see in the beginning of a great fantasy series. The characters of the Obsidian Court drew me in right away. I was hooked from the beginning and I’m excited for book #2.
