Two addicts meet in rehab, finding friendship, connection, and something dangerously close to hope, only to part ways in the end.

Fate had other ideas.

Bodhi Hart has everything he once dreamed sold-out arenas, worldwide fame, and a voice that moves millions. Somewhere along the way, though, the music stopped feeling like his. When bad decisions catch up with him, rehab becomes less of a choice and more of an ultimatum.

Iggy Preston’s first love was ballet, until an injury ended his career overnight. Grief and reckless choices followed, nearly costing him everything. Rehab didn’t give him his life back, but it stopped him from losing it completely.

Thrown back together on a European tour, friendship turns into something deeper. Iggy joins the band as a makeup artist while Bodhi returns to centre stage with everything to lose. Sobriety is fragile, and loving each other may be the one risk they can’t afford.

Sometimes, love isn’t enough to save you.
But it’s enough to make you try.

Resonance is an MM rockstar romance with slow-burn sparks, friends-to-lovers, and two addicts learning to fight back when life keeps pushing them down. A contemporary standalone, expect opposites-attract, raw confessions, and a rollercoaster journey proving that recovery—and love—are never simple.

Lily James is a UK-based author with a soft spot for beautiful, heart-stealing queer romance. A lover of swoony stories, she’s especially fond of tales where complicated men fall hopelessly for each other. She lives in the West Midlands with her partner and their chubby dog, Winston—who definitely has main character energy.

Bodhi is a famous rockstar who has landed in rehab after a difficult time in his life. There he meets a beautiful pink-haired firecracker called Iggy, who breaks down his walls. The two form a connection through art and healing in rehab, and when they leave, they assume it is the last time they’ll see each other. But when Iggy gets a job as a makeup artist for a rock band, he is in for a big surprise.

This book focused heavily on themes of addiction and recovery, while also following Bodhi and Iggy’s romance. Check the TWs before reading, as this book might be hard for those who struggle with themes of addiction or substance abuse.

This book has tropes & content like:
-opposites attract
-rockstar romance
-dark lead singer x ex-dancer and makeup artist
-gender non-conforming MC (Iggy is so fabulous!)
-supportive characters (both MCs and side characters)

The characters in this book were my favourite part. 😌 the band members were all full of personality, and I love that the author did a good job of describing both the appearance and personalities of the characters without it feeling like info dumping. There were also a couple scenes in the book that were very cute or sweet, which I did enjoy.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, but when reading this book, I could tell that the author was young. Just in terms of style and the way some of the story went. I don’t know how else to describe the feel of it! But I hope it makes sense.

Overall, I found the story a little repetitive sometimes, but enjoyed it overall. Though it dealt with some hard themes, I wasn’t super upset or emotionally distressed when reading. I loved the ending (I won’t spoil!), and I was happy for the characters at the end of their journey.

This author does an exceptional job in her marketing and promotions online, and I want to commend her for this! I think a lot of people will enjoy her books, and I can’t wait for her next one~

Wow. Just wow. If you know me, I rarely give books 5 stars. But this one deserves it. Resonance tells the story between two recovering addicts who meet in rehab and then later in the real world when Iggy, an ex ballet dancer, becomes the makeup artist for Bodhi’s band Noctis. From chapter one, I was hooked. I’ve been in a reading slump but I got through this in days (and it was so good I think I’m going to be put in another slump again).

The build up and tension was good. I was excited when Bodhi and Iggy finally kissed. I loved their dynamic and was rooting for them. Firstly like even aesthetically they look good together. Emo rocker boy x fem makeup artist ex ballet dancer boy???? That’s so good. And their personalities mesh well. Too often I read romance and the pairing feels meh or unearned or forced. Not Iggy and Bodhi. Lily James did a great job of making them feel real. I feel like these aren’t just characters. They’re people I would want to be friends with in real life. And the world building was good and immerse. Too often I read stories where everything is about the romance and the actual world feels flat. But this didn’t. It felt like I was watching a movie.

A lot of books in the mm romance space tend to be more spice than plot so I struggle to find books I resonate with. Resonance is more plot heavy although it does have spice so I was very pleased with that. I love how the band becomes found family for Iggy too in the end.

I love that both Iggy and Bodhi weren’t perfect. I love that we see their relationship which felt realistic and also healthy. Again too often I feel like I don’t come across many healthy couples in this space but despite the issues they had, they worked it out. And they’re so damn cute. The finger painting scene. The flower scene. The way Bodhi took Iggy to see Swan Lake and then had him dance for him to show him that he wasn’t broken…. The tears (and I don’t cry at books often).

Speaking of, as someone who experiences chronic pain, Iggy’s story is so important to me. I have felt a lot of grief and I love how that’s explored. I appreciate that he’s in his twenties like me. People tend to act like chronic pain is reserved for people who are older. Also showing how pain from his injury led to his addiction. I’m not an addict myself, but it made me understand how someone could go down that road. Especially someone like me who experiences chronic pain. I love that this was shown as the reason he became an addict. Addiction is so stigmatized and addicts are treated like monsters. This narrative allows for empathy where there is often none from society. The way addiction was explored was meaningful and beautiful. You can tell the author wanted to do it justice and genuinely cares about the topic.

This book is really important. I hope it moves other people the way it moved me. If Iggy isn’t too fargone, then maybe I’m not either.

(I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, all thoughts are my own)

“Just because it isn’t perfect, doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful”

I Loved this book so much, it was beautiful even when it was sad. Both Bodhi and Iggy were lovable, Iggy being very out there from the beginning and Bodhi starting off more aloof and then being brought out of his shell with hep from Iggy. Their journey both together and individually is everything. After meeting in rehab they are then surprised to find that they will be going on a tour together. Though they are the opposite in many ways I just love how their story felt very real and natural. Nothing was rushed. They met and got to know each other in a very quiet vulnerable safe place and then suddenly having to navigate the outside world and the complications that come with it. This was a slow burn but it didn’t feel slow just normal, natural, how people meet and relationships build over time. There are of course hurdles along the way and I am not going to lie I shed a tear or two at those. My heart broke for them both many times, especially for Iggy, more so because I could identify with his grief and that really hit me, not so much the addiction but the grief he held.

The spice was really good, there wasn’t too much of it, but I think that fit the story. What I really liked was the comfortableness of the characters with each other throughout. As well as the side characters without any awkwardness. Speaking of the side characters were all great and very supportive, if we got more books with them I wouldn’t complain.

This story is as much about addiction and recovery as it is about romance. To me this was done really well and with sensitivity to the topic. The trigger warnings address this well also. If this is a topic that you struggle with check those out. Lily has also included links to help should someone find these helpful.

A little detail that I also appreciated was the way the chapters were separated (titled) Based on where in the story it was.

Overall an emotional, cute and beautiful story about a rock star and his pink haired ball of energy and I loved it. I look forward to reading more from Lily James.

Rating: 500/5

Wow. Wow wow wow. I'm actually speechless and it has taken me a full day to be able to write this.

I DEVOURED this book. I knew the moment I'd first seen art of Bodhi and Iggy they were going to take over my whole brain and WOW. I gasped. I squealed. I sobbed. I never wanted it to end. I would read a whole series just about these two living life.

Bodhi is our sweet tortured artist, a man of few words with a whole lotta feelings. I had an idea of what Bodhi would be like in my head and now I've finished the book, I was so delighted to be wrong because everyone needs a Bodhi. Someone to sit with quietly and who will care enough to speak up when he needs to. I loved him, and how much he loved himself. He knew he had to prioritise himself even when it hurt (just imagine me cheering "Go little rockstar" while also ugly sobbing ok).

But Iggy. Oh, sweet darling. There's so many things in Iggy's journey that I've experienced personally and chronic pain is such a big part of my life, so it felt like I went on this journey right alongside him. Iggy's desperate need to escape his pain was written in such a beautifully raw way, and it tore my heart to pieces and stitched it back together (in Iggy's words, just like kintsugi). I don't actually think there's ever been a character I've connected with so deeply before in a book and it was such a joy.

This one is going to linger with me probably for a really long time. I loved that there were no expectations for any of the characters to be perfect, but LEAST of all our MMCs. For me, this book was about pain, and struggle, and not giving up no matter how hard it is when you fall. And most profoundly, about loving yourself first, and gently.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given.

Ooh my heart! What an incredible story.

Resonance was an extremely well written romance between rock star Bodhi and former ballet dancer turned makeup artist Iggy. The two initially meet in rehab, before unexpectedly finding each other again when Iggy is assigned to do makeup for the band's European tour.

Lily James is an incredible author. The writing is so well done, and even though the book is on the longer side, the time flies by. This is definitely not a light read though - the gritty, realistic challenges of addiction recovery and relapse are prominent themes throughout the book, so if this is something that is a struggle please read the trigger warning before reading. The ending was perfect though, and I loved that Lily James didn't go for the "love cures all" trope, but instead shows how the people who love us can help support our own personal growth, but ultimately only we can decide whether to move forward.

Definitely a must read author. Cannot wait for her next book!

I can't find a single complaint for this book. It's brilliant. I loved the entire journey of Bodhi and Iggy.
Bodhi and Iggy didn't expect to run into each other again after becoming friends in rehab so when they unexpectedly do, there was room for conflict there but there wasn't any. There really was no relationship drama between these two which was perfect since two newly recovering addicts trying to navigate a friendship and then relationship certainly brings its own drama.

If you read the trigger warnings you certainly know what to expect as far as the big dramatic moment but I thought the storyline was done really well and realistically. I won't give spoilers but the aftermath was heartwrenching in the best way, and Riff is the side character MVP for me.

This had amazing flow, dialogue, and everything I love; a story outside of the romance, sweet moments, well done spicy moments, and lots of little hurt/comfort moments sprinkled throughout. Honestly I just wanted more of them!

*I recieved an ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.

This was phenomenal. Iggy and Bodhi will be in my heart forever. This was a beautiful depiction of friendship, addiction, love, and life... the intentional moments they made for each other was so powerful. Allowing one another to process their emotions and support the other through their recovery while still maintaining their own- wow.
The process of recovery is not a linear journey, and it was shown beautifully and authentically in Bodhi and Iggy's journey.
“Love can’t be the foundation of recovery. But it can be part of the structure.”
I felt like I was watching these two on a big screen.

bodhi and Iggy are EVERYTHING, their friendship from the start of .meeting in rehab had me both kicking my feet and wanting to hug them!

bodhi is the beautiful tortured soul, rockstar front man. He lost the meaning of the music and in turn lost himself, when his manager and label finally give him an ultimatum he has to go to rehab and get sober. bodhi soul and heart truly shines in this story, both in his love for Iggy and his love for his band/friends around him.

Iggy my beautiful dancer, I want to wrap him in such a hug. He has the brightest most beautiful soul, I felt and saw so much of myself in him both in how he hides his pain and the struggles of his family dynamic. I just want to wrap Iggy in the biggest hug and tell him it'll be okay cause baby it takes time but it'll be okay!

Iggy, man. He may be my new favourite mc. He's so unapologetically himself, unapologetically British and perfectly flawed. My boy makes references to Thorpe Park and Jaffa Cakes. To me, this makes the book just that little more personal and safe. I always love reading the pov of a fellow Brit, especially when he's such a beautiful and deep character. Bodhi is also everything I love in a main character. He's broody but a darling when it comes to Iggy. They both deserve the world and to be protected at alllll costs.

This book was so stunning, written beautifully. A book about addiction, found family and overcoming trauma. It was angsty, slow burn with vulnerable moments, unlikely friendships and spice that is on another levellll! I spent soo much time shouting at this book. It was incredibly anxiety inducing ha! I loved it!

Thank you for trusting me to read and review your book fairly. It was a riot!

Holy shit this was so good.

I love Iggy + Bodhi. This story consumed me and I finished it in one night.

LILY YOU MADE ME STAY UP PAST MY BEDTIME!!!!

But really, wonderful story, beautiful build of a relationship and the struggles of dealing with addition. This isn't a fairytale, addiction is real, raw, and doesn't let love fix it. These men put in the work, they see each other for what they are. I loved how real this was.

I loved how Lily wrote her characters. No real mention of sexuality, they just are. Iggy may have pink hair and dress femme but is so confident in his masculinity and who he is. He is not fetishized, he is not a delicate little thing, he is Iggy and he kicks ass. Bodhi is hot too (But I love Iggy more sorry I LOVE PINK) The supporting cast is great and I want more of them asap.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful work Lily.

I received an arc from the author in exchange for a review, raw honest thoughts y’all and all I got to say was HOLY SHIT this was the best book ever! Amazing premise, wonderful characters (i would love to see more of the Noctis boys if we get the chance). MY LOVE for Iggy and Bodhi are so profound that I swear to god any pink-haired character will remind me of the dude! Their progression through hardships such as drugs is so crazy and this book made me want to cry so hard but i kept it in still my heart hurt! If you want spoilers please read Chapter 22! I finished this and I am so happy I did!

Please pre-order ‘Resonance’ by Lily James that comes out on March 28th 2026! I’m gonna get the paperback and hopefully keep it in my possession because I love this book SOOOOO MUCH!

Okay, the way Bodhi and Iggy were just there for each other completely blew me away 😭. These were two of the best-written characters I’ve read in quite some time. All the different emotions and the ups and downs on the page were written so well that the characters felt incredibly real to me.
This story was such a beautiful mix of unwavering love—both platonic and romantic—and overcoming something truly complex. What I loved most about these two is that they did not let the bad things in their lives define them 🥹.
Reading about Bodhi and Iggy’s struggles and watching both their personal growth and their growth as a couple throughout the book was honestly so rewarding.

Some writers have the gift to make a reader feel all the feelings—Lily is one of those people. Resonance made me feel everything. I celebrated with Iggy and Bodhi and my entire body ached when Iggy and Bodhi hurt. I became a fan of Noctis and would have absolutely loved to see Bodhi perform on stage through Iggy’s eyes. Their love story is sweet and haunted, and their happy ending is sweet and well deserved. Definitely a 5 stars read, I would read again. Next time I see a person with pink hair you better believe I’m freaking out and making them my friend.

Bodhi and Iggy were such a beautiful couple to read. The strength these two had along with the unconditional love for each other. I loved getting the small little glimpses of their time together at Willow; seeing how close they got but also how vulnerable they were with each other. Lily James writing just grips you from the very beginning of the story. She brings you in and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters and feel everything they do.

This was harder for me to get into because I struggled with connecting to drug addict characters, but once it hooked me, I could not put this down. I love Bodhi and Iggy and all their broken pieces. Iggy was my favorite and damn he had a journey to take. I absolutely feel for his pain and him having to take those boundaries with him relatives. Honestly this ended up being absolutely beautiful. Watching these two broken men heal and grow together. I'm so glad I kept with it.

I was honored to receive a beta copy from Lily, and I was instantly pulled into it. Lily takes a really hard subject and turns it into something beautiful and healing. In Resonance, we get to follow the journey of two recovering addicts, with all the ups and downs that comes with it.

Bodhi and Iggy (two literal opposites) meet under tough circumstances, but their connection quickly grows into a genuine friendship that slowly becomes more—I swear, their love feels so real and unconditional. ❤️‍🩹 Lily wrote their story with so much care and empathy, and it truly shows. ✨
