Bertrice Small is another big name in women’s romance. Her earlier books (WAY back in the 80s) were much spicier than the average historical romance and if you wanted a steamier read, then you knew Ms Small would deliver. Finally in 2005 she published her first erotic contemporary romance and “Dangerous Pleasures” is the fourth book in her ‘Pleasures’ series. This series is definitively erotica as the sex is almost a character itself.

Say it ain't so, Skye. Say it ain't so!

There's nothing sadder than watching a legend fade away. Think Douglas MacArthur, or Bela Lugosi running around suburban tract housing in a Dracula cape in Ed Wood's PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. Think Mark Hamill, singing "Luke Be A Jedi Tonight" on a snarky comedy show like THE SIMPSONS.

Now picture Bertrice Small, no longer writing titanic romance masterpieces like SKYE O'MALLEY, but instead reduced to writing sweaty, oozy, soft-core porn like DAN

Really disappointed in this one......main character started off likeable...ended up being terrible. I didnt care for the way this character changed...and not in a good way. Lots o sex...but nothing even remotely sexy.....
Reading Women Challenge 2019 #21 A Book you bought or borrowed from the library

Not read an erotic book for a long time and wasn't expecting this one to be. I'd ordered it from the library but not sure why as it doesn't fit (i don't think) with any reading challenges I am doing at the moment, so I'm beginning to think it's the right title but the wrong book / author.
Nevertheless it was a good, quick read. Widowed mum of five is exhausted trying to make ends meet so when she wins

Dangerous Pleasures

Wow. The imagination Bertrice Small had with this Series is beyond reality. This series has been hard to put down. Wish that The Channel existed.

My second favourite book in this series, and again featuring a woman discovering her self. Annie’s husband was killed two years ago, leaving her with 5 children to take care of on her own. And without adequate means to do so. Thanks to her lawyer sister and her parents who help her out, she can give her children some luxury. Her oldest son is going to college thanks to her sister, but her oldest daughter longs for all the trendy clothes and gadgets she needs to be part of the in-crowd at school. ...more

Bertrice Small's books are in a class all there own. You have to understand what she is as an author or you may be surprised. This was the first book I bought from her and I was in the mood for something different, It was the title and the cover that made me buy it. The description didn't hurt any either. the story is about a widowed mother of five in her 40's named Annie Miller, not your typical heroin. That is what makes it more believable because she's so common. She wins a contest to spend a ...more

I am of 2 minds on this book in the Channel series. On one hand, the steamy bits are pretty hot - the fantasy parts with the Beast are especially delicious, with the Beast playing the part of a dom and Annie his sub. It fits the story and can be seen as a way for Annie to work out her feelings about her husband's death. On the other hand, the story was all over the place. The first part seemed fairly benign - widow with 5 children, ranging from college age to preschooler, wins a week at the new ...more

More like a 2.5. As a steamy book, it was good - just what you expect, but as a "story" I think it wasn't one of Ms. Small's best.

I think Annie was one of the more less-likeable protagonists of this series. The previous ones had characters finding love - but this book had nothing about love. It actually put me off from reading the next one when it came out a year later.

Annie'd already found and lost her "great love" - so in this story, she reconnected with Annie (and distanced herse

Did I really just waste two hours of my life on this book? I loved all Small's historicals and her Hetar series, but I don't know what she was thinking with this one. At least in the Pleasure books that have had romances , there was some kind of plot. (view spoiler) ...more

I was fairly disappointed with this one. While the plot and storyline were interesting, the telling of it lacked luster. This one was chock full of "telling" sentences. And horror of horrors, Bertrice called the heroine by the wrong name--not once, but twice. VERY poor editing. I don't blame Bertrice. It's the editor's job to catch that stuff.

2.5 stars ... maybe I'm just not a contemporary erotica fan... small delivers a well written book but it just falls short of her other works. I just don't see her being as involved with the story and characters in this book

I think I'll stick with Bertrice Small's older books - loved the story lines. This series just has some really unreal stuff in it.

Dangerous Pleasures is #4 in the contemporary erotica series by Bertrice Small. I was a little put off by this one but if you take it for what it is, then it's a good book.

Some intrigue, but a lot of sex as well. B. Small does that so well. It's beyond fantastic, but somehow you get caught up in it. Silly premise, but hot sex.
