What a great 5 star read! Visually satisfying and cleverly written. In a Baltic winter and manacled to an anchor, Fricis Svaars is alone. He knows his fate, but he’s a clever man. I like Fricis. Who wouldn’t? He’s strong, determined, powerfully built―has all the hallmarks of a survivor. But as we see him struggling to keep his head above water and weighed down with irons, there is that rare and unmistakable feeling that something could go horribly wrong.

Exceptional short thriller. A precision cut gem.

From the moment the sleigh stops in frozen wasteland, the suspense never lets up as Latvian political prisoner Fricis tries to cheat the death coming for him via Russian guards. If I hadn’t been caught up in the sheer adrenalin of the escape bid, I’d have lingered over the quality of the writing.
