Let me begin by stating that normally I am not an avid reader of fantasies, though I have been known to attach onto the extremely good ones (hello, TOLKIEN!). That being said –

The Seamstress and the Sable Knight is an extremely good fantasy novel!

One thing I usually tend to skip in novels is gushy romantic scenes. I usually expect these from fantasies, so I always go in prepared to skip around a bit. Sneddon does a fantastic job with the romantic aspects of this novel. There is romance, yes, but

It's been too long since I've read fantasy, and "The Seamstress and the Sable Knight," was a good novel to bring me back. As a reader, characterization is especially important to me. I want characters I care about and protagonists I would want to spend time with, especially for a fantasy adventure story such as this one. For her first novel Mary Sneddon really takes the time to establish her characters as complex, believable, and distinctive individuals (none of these characters are "fuzzy aroun ...more

In her first novel, Mary Sneddon had managed to create a fantasy world rich with gods, demons and monsters. Airanna doesn’t know anything about prophesies and doesn’t want to. She’s opened her own shop and is making a legal living for herself. But the black knights of Sable haven’t forgotten her. When Miridan of the Sable Knights shows up, she has no reason to trust him. And there’s Raiz, still coming around, trying to get her back to her illegal life again. And where’s this magic coming from? I ...more

I really enjoyed the characters in this fantasy world. The author built a working universe introducing the reader to people, gods, monsters and situations that readers could feel comfortable in. I like fantasy novels that have characters you can empathize with - people (and creatures) who are enough like people you know to help you understand where they're coming from, but different enough to grab your imagination. This is a great first novel from a new writer, who states she already has plans f ...more

If I were to pick a subtitle for this book, it'd be "Road Trip To Kill A God!"

The Seamstress and the Sable Knight is a fun ride from start to finish as we follow Arianna as she gets pulled out of her normal life as a seamstress and thrown back into the past she'd tried to run from. Surrounded by friends that love her as much as she loves them and with a pair of sheers in her hands, Arianna's got all the tools she needs to fight fate and work through this whole prophecy thing that's also fallen

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fantasy novel that contains; prophecies, gods, knights, magic, and strange creatures. It is about a girl named Arianna who gets kidnapped . . . you know honestly you should read the official synopsis because I can’t explain it. Here is another link for it.
I honestly thought I was reading a young adult book. I thought the characters were in their late teens maybe early 20s, it was a bit of a shock when about 60% through the book mos

I really liked this first effort! I am left with questions at the end, and my curiousity is killing me. A few typos, but overall a very soild and tight story. Impressive. The romance elements were a bit abrupt, and some fine points of mythology were disconnected. But it was very readable!

A fresh story.

This is a nice read with a lot of twists and turns. I enjoyed the story line, the character development, and the social layout of the story.

Mary Sneddon has been an avid reader since childhood. Her favorite genre is fantasy and, from a young age, she has written fantasy stories of her own.  She also enjoys drawing and painting and for some time turned her attention to comics from prose and back again.
She currently holds a Bachelors in Art Education as well as a Bachelors in Art with a concentration in painting from McNeese State Univ
