This one was so funny a missing cat and a mystery to solve too. I was surprised by how Mrs Spindler knows everything that is going on, not quite what I’d thought but just as funny. Never had I imagined Merry would go and stay with Mrs Spindler too I wondered how that was going to go.

I enjoyed this one. It involves a missing cat and spying. I enjoyed the missing cat storyline more than the spying and snooping one. Although, I did like seeing the way the two came together. The second storyline explains how Ruby knew what was happening in town, which wasn't what I expected it to be.

This book really did have a good storyline but I am still not a big fan of how immature and childish our main character is. I also wish it had more of a Scriptural wrap-up with Merry applying lessons learned to her life.

Summary: With her parents gone on a trip, Merry’s neighbour Ruby Spindler offers to care for her. Finally, the perfect opportunity for Merry to discover the secrets hiding in “Old Hawk Eyes’” house…
My thoughts: Finally, the mystery of Old Hawk Eyes’ spying is discovered. This was such a satisfying book to read. (This has actually been bugging me for the entire series; I think I was just as invested as Merry and Skip were in finding out how their nosy neighbour knew everything).
It’s sad when Merry’s cat Abednego gets lost; I can’t believe this series made me care so much about what happened to a fictitious cat in a book. I am not a pet person at all – not that I hate animals, I don’t – I just don’t tend to care too much when the main character's pet gets lost or dies.
I did love that Skip and Merry get to start appreciating each other; it’s hard to cherish your siblings when you’re little kids, but once you're grown up it seems to get easier and it's nice that Merry and Skip can be friends now.
My personal rating: 4/5 stars.

Ok mostly giving this three stars for the missing cat storyline, anyone who has ever had a pet disappear, the not knowing is by far the worst.
Secondary storyline, we finally learn how Miss Spindler aka Old Hawk Eyes sees everything and I have to say, without spoiling the "surprise" for anyone...it sucked..made no sense and actually betrayed the Amish and sorry but you have to read it to find out what I mean..not at all like Beverly Lewis, I'm going to chop it up to her being tired of writing for this series maybe, she only did 3 series that were 10 books long, the rest go for like 5 or 6 maximum, so she was still learning her limits when she wrote this.
