When she’s in heat, there’s no cooling down…

Lone Pine Pride, Book 2

Wilderness guide and cougar-shifter Patricia “Patch” Fontaine has known the dangers of lone-shifter life since she was ten, when her parents mysteriously vanished. All grown up now, she thrives on her hard-won independence.

When rumors of a new rash of shifter abductions crop up, she’s forced to come home to the Lone Pine Pride for protection—right as the man she’s always secretly wanted is about to marry her best friend. And right as she’s going into heat.

Roman Jaeger values his role as Alpha heir apparent, but he isn’t thrilled about his arranged marriage to the Alpha’s daughter—especially when his bride is just as nonplussed as he is—but he’ll do his duty for the pride. Seeing Patch again challenges his noblest intentions. The wildness in her sets him on fire, and he can’t resist the chance for one last fling.

Both know a future together is impossible. But when chemistry and sowing wild oats grows into a need deeper than lust, their bond could threaten the very heart of the pride they both love.

Product Warnings:This book contains a strong sexy Alpha-to-be, an independent cougar-shifter who knows her way around a lion’s heart, secret affairs, arranged marriages, politics, passion, and a pride full of lions and tigers and bears. Oh my.

This is technically the second book in this new series by this author but events within it happen simultaneously with the previous book Jaguars Kiss . I'd obviously suggest reading that one first but this does work very well as a standalone and if this is a taste of what the Lone Pine Pride books are set to offer then I for one will be back for more! Ms Andrews is no stranger to paranormal romance and in particular shifter tales but this seres that features various types of shifters pitted against an organisation determined to obliterate them has certainly caught my attention and I can't wait to read more.
Patch was taken in by the Lone Pine Pride as a child when her parents mysteriously disappeared . She's found a true friend in the Alphas daughter Lila but has always kept herself distant but now her friend is finally getting set to marry Roman the Alphas second in command and Patch just doesn't know quite how she feels about that. Roman is everything Patch wants in a male but he's a pure blood Lion whilst she is a Couger and besides he's not interested in her. Patch wants to see her friend Lila happy but something just isn't right. Patch is suffering from a huge overload of hormones as she is about to go into her heat but scratching that particular itch is not a good idea as the Pride is being targeted by a shadowy organisation. Being forced to stay on Pride territory puts Patch even closer to Roman but he doesn't seem to mind at all , in fact he seems to want Patch almost as much as she wants him! This is a bad idea though and what starts out as just basic need pretty soon turns into something so much more but there's Lila waiting to marry Roman ! The one thing to count on is that Roman and Patch will always put the needs of the pride first no matter the cost!
I really liked this story and found it flowed very well with great and believable dialogue. It's a rare author who can tackle prejudice whilst telling a romantic tale but Ms Andrews does a very good job of combining real issues with a fantasy. No one wishes to think of themselves as prejudiced in any way or biased and yet so many of us do fear what we do not know or understand. In this book the pride is predominantly made up of lion shifters but all types are welcomed by the Alpha. Whilst this seems to be forward thinking unfortunately there is still the " them and us" situation to contend with and the perfect example of that is the heroine Patch. She has spent many years living as an adopted daughter of the Alpha and yet as she is a Couger feels that she is and always will be an outsider and right from the beginning when we see the interaction between the various shifters it's clear that this is not an isolated issue. As the story progresses the author cleverly expands on this and it makes for a strong story that is full of surprises. So yes this is a sexy romance and I would love a Roman of my own but this is a book that makes the reader think and I highly recommend it.

“Let me be the judge of that.” This time he found his way beneath the poncho without a hitch, his hands smoothing along her stomach beneath her shirt and deftly unfastening her jeans to sneak inside and—
“You don’t get to be the judge of everything,” she gasped as he touched her, her body already slick and ready. “You don’t get to rule over the world and make it all bend to fit your will.” “Of course I do,” he purred against the skin beneath her ear. “That’s what it is to be Alpha.”

Gotta love a Lion Shifter!

If I had to pick just one genre to read it would be paranormal and shifters. Lions, tigers, wolves, jaguars, wild dogs, bears etc etc I love them all!
Roman, the sexy beast is Alpha heir apparent and the Pride is everything to him so he's prepared to sacrifice himself to an arranged marriage with the Alpha's daughter for the future stability of the Pride.
Despite having always secretly lusted after Roman he is to marry her best friend so Patch just lusts from afar with no intention of anything ever happening between them. Then she comes into her heat ………………………….
Their chemistry is off the charts combustible however even though encouraged by others to sow some wild oats and just have a fling Patch is determined Hoes over Bros!!
She encourages Roman to woo Lila and get to know his bride while her own need and lust for him deepens with every contact they have.
So what will happen? Will Roman have a last fling before marriage? Will Patch succumb to secret desire with her heat riding her hard? Will their undeniable attraction and chemistry flare out of control?
I'm not telling! But I will say that while a bit of a predictable story, it romps along with humour, has all the hot and sexy you expect from a Vivi Andrews and as a quick enjoyable read it delivers.

Taming the Lion is the second book in the Lone Pine Pride series by Vivi Andrews. I haven’t read the first book, Jaguar’s Kiss, but I had no problems following this story. Taming the Lion is about Patch, (Patricia), a loner cougar shifter and Roman, a lion shifter and alpha heir to the Lone Pine Pride. Roman is set is marry Lila, the Alpha’s daughter, in three months. Like Lila, Roman doesn’t want the marriage but he’s willing to go through with it for the good of the Pride.

Patch has wanted Roman for as long as she can remember but he’s never given her any indication that he even noticed her. However, after having to return to Pride lands, at the beginning of her heat Patch manages to catch Romans attention. Something she’s always wanted but not when he is due to marry her best friend in three months.

The attraction between Patch and Roman quickly becomes too much and they begin an affair, one last fling before Roman must commit himself to another. What Roman didn’t count on was developing feelings for the tempting cougar. Their romance is bittersweet, filled with longing and steamy encounters. Will love conquer all or will the good of the Pride come first? Well, this is a romance so that will give you a hint on how this story ends. I’ll tell you that the ending is a happy one but the journey to it isn’t straight forward and easy.

I really enjoyed Taming the Lion. It’s erotic and interesting. There is sex, romance and a bit of action. The characters and story are vividly portrayed. The romance is raw and untamed. It held my interest and I look forward to future stories.

Taming the Lion is recommended to fans of steamy shifter romance.

The Lone Pine Pride is a haven to all shifters, no matter if you are lion, cougar, lynx, leopard, bird, jaguar or even a bear shifter, all are welcome!

Patricia "Patch" Fontaine was orphaned, after her parents disappeared off the face of the earth, & was taken in by the Lone Pine Pride. Patch was instantly adopted by the Lion Alpha's daughter, Lila, & her Alpha parents raised Patch as their adopted daughter. Lila is her BFF & Patch has been in deep LUST with Lila's fiancé, Roman, but she can never have him because he is the Alpha's heir & a lion. Lila is all things shiny, perfect & beautiful, while Patch is a loner, plain & always in the hated "Friend Zone" with the guys! Patch never really felt like she belonged to the Pride, so she has lived on the outside & even has a job as a wilderness guide to humans.

Roman Jaeger is a lion shifter, has lived with the Pride since he was 15 & Greg as mentored him to take over then he wanted to retire. As the Alpha's heir, he has been engaged to Greg's daughter for years, but only sees Lila as his kid sister. There is no sparks between they & he doesn't want to say "I DO", but he will sacrifice himself for the good of the Pride.

An injuries bird shifter shows up drugged, talking about shifter kidnappings & a organization threatening all shifters, so a mandatory meeting of Pride members is called & Greg, their Alpha, wants everyone back to the Pride compound for their own protection. Also Greg announces the marriage of Lila & Roman will be in 3 months & Roman feels like he is holding a sister's hand, not his fiancée's & Lila feels exactly the same way. Patch is so PISSED OFF because she is in heat, a walking Hornybabelicious to all the males & seeing yummy Roman makes her girlie parts shiver & wetness roll down her leg. After the meeting, an upset Lila grabs Patch, a bucket of beer, goes walking & when Lila senses that Roman is within shouting distance, she flees & leaves Patch to deal with him.

That night everything changes, as Patch gets steamy under her collar & yells at Roman for treating Lila badly, but all Roman sees is a new sexy "got to have that mouth" Patch! With a dominant shove into a tree, they devour & nip 1 another's lips & a freight train of LUST electrified both of them, but Patch pushes him away, pulls a Lila & RUNS! With a the guilt churning, Patch tells Lila about the kiss & Lila tells her to go for it, but she decides to talk to Roman & ended it. In his office, Roman has other ideals, as he grabs her gorgeous a$$, slams her into the sideboard & takes her everything, but a knock interrupts them. Soon they can't fight it anymore & their mutual sexual lightening burns them both, but they need to work together to find the organization threatening all shifters. Can Patch steal her BFF fiancé & live with the guilt? Will Roman still sacrifices himself for he Pride? When will these 2 idiots say SCREW IT & make themselves happy? Can the future Lion Alpha mate a cougar? How will the Pride respond to a Cougar Alpha? Who is taken the shifters?

This is my 1st Ms. Andrews' tale & she created such a incredibly sexy shifter world with the Lone Pine Pride & their motto was "All Are Welcome" truly touched my heart. With all the racism, hate & prejudices in our world, I felt that Ms. Andrews created a truly blessed community filled with such different personalities & even different animals species, but they were 1 whole big family, warts & all. I am a die hard historical romance fan, so Patch was such a Wallflower of old, to me, & she felt out of place because she never completely believed she was worthy of their acceptance. Roman was a great hero willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, kinda like Data or Spock! These 2 were missing what the other had, so they just needed to move some pieces around (the easy & super hard way) to make their puzzle pieces fit together. Lila was an unofficial Fairy Godmom for Patch & Roman, with all the times she was shoving them together & I wouldn't be surprised that she knew all long that they were a matched set. I can't wait to read Santiago & Lila's story, Jaguar's Kiss. Ms. Andrews shared many "hard up against" any available surfaces scenes, as Roman & Patch liquefied (down the walls, trees, ect.) into a puddle of moist mayhem & I LOVED that she remember to have Patch & Roman PURR! Ms. Andrews made me feel like at home with the Lone Pine Pride & I can't wait to visit again, share shots with Whiskey, learn some techie savvy stuff from Mateo, grab some hibernating Zzz with Hugo & have girls night out with Lila, Patch & Grace. My top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes, plus my furry reading buddy's 4 paws, for this PURRfect (I just had to do it) paranormal undies melting read & I will be watching for any & all of Ms. Andrews romances!

NetGalley ARC given for my honest review.

I really enjoy the writing style presented by Vivi Andrews in all of her paranormal romance books, and her latest release is no exception. Taming the Lion is the second book in Andrews’ Lone Pine Pride series, and I think I have been anticipating the story about cougar shifter Patch and lion shifter Roman more than the first book in the series! Patch is your everyday tomboy type of girl who tends to blend in as “one of the guys,” and Roman is a strong alpha type personality at the top of the lion pride hierarchy. Patch has watched Roman from afar for years, but he has been unofficially affianced to her best friend for many years, and pursuing him would be impossible due to pride tradition and a danger to her longest friendship. Roman wants Patch, but he could lose his place as the Alpha’s heir if he spurns the arranged marriage with the Alpha’s daughter, and the pride could fall completely apart in the fighting which could follow such an upset.

Confirmation of a human group hunting shifters has come home to roost at Lone Pine Pride, and Roman is grappling with the fallout as word spreads about another pride who wants to come out to mankind. The arrival of Patch’s heat cycle and the simultaneous announcement for pride members to circle the wagons seems to be rather unluckily timed. As Patch and Roman begin to interact as more than pride members, the will of both shifters seems to fade – rules be damned. Though they both agree that an extended relationship is not an option, they dive into the short term fling with searing heat and emotion. In interacting with Patch, Roman begins to see the pride differently…and starts to think about making some changes. Will the changes happen in time for Patch and Roman, though? Or will the pride come first?

This book is stands alone at around 230 pages, but there are shades of book one present so I would recommend reading them in order (because I am kind of obsessive compulsive about it, not because it is better or worse). The first book was only slightly over an estimated 100 pages, so you could totally read the two books in two or three days…who needs sleep, anyway?! If you are interested in hearing about book one, you can find my review here. I would recommend this book for lovers of paranormal romance, especially shifters, and of course any fans of Vivi Andrews.

Shifters are being abducted so everyone is forced to stay on pride lands and being in close contact makes it hard for Patch and Roman to fight their attraction to each other, even though they both know that a future together is impossible and that their growing bond could threaten the very pride they both love in this riveting shifter romance. Tensions build in the pride from several different areas besides the doomed relationship drama which adds lots of suspense and spice to the story including the rumors of shifter abductions, finding an injured hawk shifter and pride politics. I found the story to be an enjoyable and entertaining read with some interesting elements and surprising twists and I can’t wait to see what happens next with this mixed shifter pride.

I started with this book instead of the first in the series, Jaguar's Kiss, and felt I had missed nothing. Actually, after reading the teaser of the first it seems as if they're not in order. By that I mean it reads like the second book takes place during or slightly before the first. I don't know. I'm probably wrong. Anyway, I really liked this story even though it wasn't the most original plot it did keep me interested. I also thought that by having Roman have pretty much no clue who Patch was made it a little better for some reason. The major thing I disliked was definitely the name Patch. I know they're cat shifters, but I kept picturing a calico every time I read her name. I'm going back right now to download Jaguar's Kiss and hope to like it just as much.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Another of the shape shifter modern fantasies. This one is quite fun as a cougar lady starts to fancy a male African lion shifter. They are in Montana and at this point the outside world doesn't know about shifters, though one clan wants to come out. The Lone Pine pride of lions and other cats disagrees and the usually solitary hunters have banded together for safety.

The lions run the pride and this term is not to be taken to include mountain lions. So there is discrimination and we meet double standards, although by and large these people can live as they wish. Marrying as ordered however becomes an issue when the pretty lioness pal of our cougar, has to marry the lion and leadership heir apparent who takes the cougar's fancy. Yes, it's complicated. Also the story is sexy, adventurous, tense and fun. If you like adult romance shifter stories you'll enjoy this one.

Really enjoyed Taming the Lion however for the first few chapters I had this constant feeling that I may have already read this book. I couldn't find anything to say it had previously been released under a different title. I was frustrated. There was one scene with the broken bottle & red ribbon that clenched it for me. I HAD read this before. I was also confused that Lori & Santiago were not together in this book, when their book was first. Then the penny dropped. Obviously this book was from Patch's point of view and the rehashing of scenes from her perspective is what threw me. So. Finally getting past THAT distraction I fell into the world of the Lone Pine shifters and was once enamored with the world the author creates. Loved Patch's character and found the struggles for the non-lion shifters believable. Can't wait for more in this series.

Patricia “Patch” Fontaine enjoys life as a lone cougar shifter. She’s going in to heat and just wants to hide out in her cabin and ride it out. She shouldn’t be lusting after Roman Jaeger, the next lion shifter in line for the Alpha position. The position comes with an arranged marriage to Patch’s best friend and the current Alpha’s daughter.

Roman doesn’t want his arranged marriage and neither Patch nor Roman find themselves able to resist the attraction. The sex is off the charts volcanic between these two, when they give in to their intense attraction.

I rooted for Roman and Patch to end up together. I really liked the twists and turns in this story and I will definitely check out more from this author in the future.

I absolutely loved this book! Roman and Patch's story was one I was excited to read and explore. Cannot wait to read more of this series(hopefully there will be more) because the pride is just getting better and better! If you love shifter books, this is one you should definitely read! Now I would read this series in order so then you are able to understand what is going on in Patch's best friends life while patch is feeling guilty for being with Roman. It just makes the story a little more easy to read and you actually learn to love Patch and Roman even though in the first story, you kind of thought of Roman as an obstacle instead of a person having to choose between duty and his own life just like Lila.

I started skipping at 43% when the 'hero', Roman, made Patch tell him she was his. He was getting married to her best friend in a few months and they were getting it on. I just thought the whole thing was icky. I only (kinda sorta) finished the book because I wanted to know what happened with the drugged, sick shifter, who I believe the next book in the series is about. I don't care that the best friend didn't want to marry Roman or that she gave permission, sleeping with a friend's guy is nasty and ruined the book for me.

Second in series. Roman, the alpha heir to Lone Pine is expected to marry Lila the alpha's daughter but she falls in love with someone else and upsets the cart. Roman suddenly sees Patch, a cougar shifter as a woman and things get heated. Life is changing for the pride, humans are kidnapping shifters,a pack of shifters want to come out to the world and Roman and Patch are falling in love, but will the Pride except a mixed marriage to lead then into what is coming next ?

Wow! Just wow! Shifter storyline that was entertaining, action packed, suspenseful and hot, hot, hot! Roman doesn’t want his arranged marriage and neither Patch nor Roman find themselves able to resist the attraction especially since Patch is in heat. Loved the chemistry and interaction between them. I haven't read the first book in this series but plan on it. Would recommend.
