I enjoyed the look behind the scenes of a Maryland horse-racing training stable and a breeding farm. The book is in the form of a daily diary with short entries for two years. In some cases, the author is too terse and technical so that I didn't understand what I was reading. But there was some poetry, too. And horses.
"Friends are like crutches." [during the death of the author's father]. "It's post-traumatic dress syndrome, this sigh of relief after the big show." "Courage is not absence of fear. It's resistance to it." "You look back and are propelled forward." [about history]
