Shattered following a devastating betrayal that results in the death of his friends, Lane Robinson finds himself in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a world away from his previous life as a Marine. Robinson is trying to forget the past, but healing from the deadly deceit that cut blood deep is hard, and memories of that treachery taint every interaction in his life. He misses the comradery and bond he had with his brothers in arms, and now can’t help but view everyone around him with mistrust and suspicion. Robinson meets a member of the Rebel Wayfarers motorcycle club, and with an introduction into the biker’s circle of friends, he finds that elusive sense of home that has been missing from his life for too long. Initiated into the club and now called Gunny, Robinson buries himself in his new life as a Rebel member. Secure within his newfound family, Gunny fills his days with solitary work and finds he possesses a gift for motorcycle restoration, forming a career out of this exacting passion. Trying to leave behind the man he was before the club, unfortunately his feelings of cynicism aren’t so easy to set aside. Even within the club, surrounded by members he readily calls brother, he grants his trust to only a few. One of those is Davis Mason, national president, and a man he is proud to call friend. Into this meticulously constructed life dances Sharon Elkins, the one woman who seems to possess the ability to tear down the walls he has spent so long building. She is the first person who sees beyond his surface facade, the first he’s let get close in so long…can he trust the emotions she stirs in his soul? As she becomes an ever more important part of his world, darkness from their former lives collides in a dangerous cascade of conspiracy and schemes. Can he protect the woman he has come to love, and will they be able to fight their way clear of the chaos that threatens to entrap them? 18+ due to explicit content. *Please note this book is part of the Rebel Wayfarers MC book series, featuring characters from additional books in the series. If the books are read out of order, you’ll twig to spoilers for the other books, so going back to read the skipped titles won’t have the same angsty reveals. Raised in the south, Wall Street Journal & USA TODAY bestselling author MariaLisa deMora learned about the magic of books at an early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library, devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she says "I've always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and found I adored that, too. For reading...if nothing else is available, I've been known to read the back of the cereal box."
A member of Romance Writers of America, deMora has penned a variety of stories, with five established series that include motorcycle romance, veteran repatriation, and time travel, as well as a romantic standalone, dark suspense, and a legal thriller. Her website is filled with links and information, as well as extras like character interviews, playlists, poetry, and trailer videos!
Her short bio reads, "Plate-spinner / cat herder at work; totally geeked author; single mom in the thick of autism at home; hockey freak; wanna-be hiker; usta-be/on-again EQ gamer."
Another one bites the dust and I am always hungry for more books in the Rebel Wayfarers MC. MariaLisa, girl... Just keep writing these till the end of time. Rebel Wayfarers forever.... forever Rebels!
Love this series. The author certainly knows how to write a gripping story. This one is my favourite so far.
Lane is an ex Marine. When he joins the Rebels MC he's known as Gunny. Sharon and Gunny are a great couple. They gotta go through so much crap I really felt for them. Sharon needs protection from her ex husband and she gets that & feels safe with Gunny.
Super great read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next book Mason.
Not as long as Slate and Bear, but still just as action packed, although Gunny is more damaged and multi-layered than Slate and his pain is different than Bear's. I really enjoyed his story and the juicy side plots going on with the club and Mason.
Gunny, a marine with PTSD and Sharon, a literally beaten down stripper, get to find peace with each other after a horrific attack on Sharon has Gunny reacting in a way no one saw coming. When we get some glimpses at how Gunny reacts to things, and why he acts that way, it really tugs on your heart strings reading about what he went through in his last mission. Sharon, although it took a terrifying attack for it to happen, finally gets to have a real chance at happiness when her caretaker comes in the form of a huge, sexy, biker who can't seem to let her out of his sight.
This pair were written really well, I enjoyed seeing how their relationship progressed. We also get a bit of an introduction to something big happening in the club. After following lead after lead, it seems all roads lead to a certain place and a certain person and I'm guessing some kind of war is brewing. I'm excited to see just what's coming next for these guys.
Another great read in the Rebel Wayfarers MC series.
If you are familiar with this series that you know the author writes these series brilliantly and has an amazing way of writing about topics that people experience day to day. This story made me cry, cringe, and angry. It left me shattered but also made me fall in love. This is one book that will be with me forever. What I love about this book is how the author gives us the story about the main characters prior to them meetings. Getting to know their past and experiences helped me to understand them on such a deeper level that I really connected with them. Once I started the first page, the storyline pulled me in and up until the very last page held my interest.
These two characters, Gunny and Sharon are both dealing with traumatic and painful pasts. Both are trying to escape their pasts and move forward. Gunny is about two damaged people who manage to find true love, hope and a place together amongst the chaos. Please note this story deals with issues like domestic abuse and PTSD so the topics are hard but the author did a beautiful job in bringing these issues out.
Gunny and Sharon’s relationship will seem fast to some but when you see where Gunny is coming from you will understand his instant need to protect and keep Sharon as his. Sharon has not felt safe, protected or loved in a very long time. In the darkest time in her life Gunny is able to provide her with the safety she has longed for. Gunny finds a home in the Rebel Wayfarers and loves his new found family, but he has demons. He suffers from PTSD and sometimes those episodes are dangerous. However, amongst those episodes he finds a light with Sharon and falls in love with this woman. As for Sharon, she has gone through hell with her very abusive ex-husband. She is broken, damaged and nearly beaten to death. Together Gunny and Sharon find solace, love and acceptance in each other. Their love and connection is inspiring, adoring and a joy to read. I could not get enough of them. Gunny is so gentle, soft, patient and understanding with Sharon but at the same time totally possessive. Gunny is an intense character. When you read about his past, you will understand why he is the way he is. I also love this author because she gives readers these alpha, bad ass bikers, who are not male whores. I thought Hunter was hot but Gunny takes the cake. He is intense in all things. Sex with him was OFF THE CHARTS INTENSE and HOT!!!
“I don’t know what the fu*ks wrong with me. I laid her down like I knew she needed to be, and I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t fu*king breathe until I was touching her again.”
“Safe. Thank you. Ace and Gunny. Safe.”
Sharon’s ex is determined to get her back, but with the help of Gunny and the Rebel Wayfarers, it won’t be that easy. I loved how Sharon was able to find the strength and confidence she needed to stand and fight back against her abuser. I loved the way author showed her strength but also left her character soft. Sharon and Gunny find a family within the Rebel Wayfarers. A family that will die for their own and will not let anyone harm what is theirs; this is also something that I loved.
We get to see some of our favorite characters from the previous books, Hunter, Dee Dee, Michael and Micah and Bear. I felt so many emotions reading Gunny. I feel in love with these characters. I cried when they went through their ordeals, but I also felt the love, happiness and acceptance they so desperately needed in order to truly let go and live. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series, this is a series that has captured my heart and mind.
This story was so very well written. When referring to PTSD, it can be difficult for the emotions and feelings associated with the condition to be written and understood. I love the storylines and how the author managed to make the awareness of the order and severity of it come to be known as the monster it can be. I am such a huge fan of deMora. He stories are brilliant and with enough twist to keep one coming back for more. I must continue on to the next book. I will highly recommend this story and series to my friends and family members.
I knew Gunny's story wouldn't be an easy read but I never expected it to be as hard as it was. As troubled by his past as he is, he still manages to be loyal, loveable & loving and so much more! He's definitely what I'd call the "Carer" of the group. Not just the way he is with his pups but how he is when he first encounters Sharon proves this. Then, go back in his story, and it shows through again!! Absolutely PHENOMENAL read!!
Oh, Gunny... sweet, Gunny! After getting a glimpse of him in Jase's story, I was super eager to get his story. For the brief moments he was present in the story, he was intense. From the moment he brought Sharon to Jase and DeeDees, I knew he was going to be a character that I was going to love.
He need to protect her by never letting her go...literally, was just the sweetest thing ever. But lets go back to how their story started. Gunny is a former Military. Serving as a Marine in the war overseas. He loves the sense of brotherhood and the bond he and his men share but after being injured and loosing his guys, he's back, stateside but feels lost. Suffering from PTSD, he's trying to find his place again and still get passed the loss he feels from losing his best friend.
Working for a Rebel Wayfarer, Deke, he sees their interaction and it reminds him of what he had with his troop and joins. Years later, he's still the silent brother that not many have a connection with, but still consider him a brother and one day, while working for DeeDee he sees the woman that changes his world.
Sharon is lost. Trying to get back on track after leaving her abusive husband, she ends up in Fort Wayne dancing to earn her way. She's great on a pole and puts on a show that has men getting lost in her every routine. She keeps to herself and is aloof with everyone. Still, Gunny appoints himself her silent protector and when she shows up one day to quite and looking like hell he's made it his mission to make things right for her.
From then on they are inseparable. It's the sweetest, most precious bond I've seen between two characters. They are each others' safety net. She is his peace from the chaos still in his head and he is her knight on chrome & steel.
The thing I loved so much about Gunny, was that he was a man of few words. He was always so quiet but that allowed him to really see what was going on. He was perceptive and only spoke what needed to be spoken. He was a gentle giant and hell bent on keeping Sharon safe and having his brothers' backs.
Sharon was a really strong woman. She never let he past get her down. She was determined to get back on her feet and with Gunny by her side, she had the confidence and strength to get there.
This was emotional, passionate and heartwarming, earning FOUR stars.
Next up is Mason's story and that is one I have been DYING to read. Oh, I can NOT wait to read his story. I absolutely LOVE him.
Gunny is a wounded warrior thei marines couldn't use him anymore and he needs the brotherhood luckily his boss helps him find the Rebels and that's what helps save him, finding his woman was a shock but what a ride
I have been anticipating this book from the moment Gunny picked Sharon up and refused to let her go in Jase. And in typical deMora fashion, the author made it worth every moment between then and now. Consistent with the prior books in the series, we meet Gunny when he was Gunnery Sergeant Lane Robinson before he joined the Rebel Wayfarers MC. Back when his military career was coming to an end as he was the only surviving man on his team after an ambush attack. An attack he barely survived and spent 3 weeks getting to safety only be sent home on a medical discharge. Needless to say, PTSD was one of many themes found in Gunny and as the story plays out, we learn that Gunny is not the only one experiencing it.
I love how deMora takes the time to introduce the reader to Gunny, showing us how his life since the military has brought him to the Rebel Wayfarers MC and how the club filled a hole in him that his discharge from the military had left. While there are many instances in the series where the timelines of the books overlap, it’s never a recycling of scenes. In this case, I got to see a bit more of DeeDee’s life before she lost her husband and daughter and how important of a person Gunny was to their lives even when so few of the club members felt as if they “knew” him. What little we learned of Gunny in Jase demonstrated how closed off the man was, so it was nice to see how Deke sponsored him into the club and made the effort to befriend Lane, learning his triggers and doing his best to insure that Lane was successful in the club. The conversations between Deke and Mason regarding Lane provide a good measure of the man and I liked how Deke’s faith in Lane urged Mason to get to know Lane better and foster a friendship with the man who eventually became Gunny. While we’re almost a third of the way into the book before Gunny and Sharon’s scenes from Jase play out, fans of the series will recognize the events leading up to it and I for one appreciated that even the few places where the scenes overlapped, seeing them presented from Gunny’s perspective gave them an entirely different feel than we got from Jase.
I give deMora massive kudos for the snippet scenes that served to introduce Sharon’s history. Despite the first few scenes being extremely short, the author manages to pack so much emotion into the scenes that I felt Sharon’s fear and hopelessness at the hands of her husband. With just a few words and well-placed scenes, the author illustrated how non-military personnel can develop PTSD and how it can be just as devastating for them. That Sharon saw Gunny as safe rather than someone to fear made his visceral reaction to her that much more significant. Because of their damaged pasts, their instant bond does not make for an insta-love situation even if Gunny did move her into his house as soon as possible. Theirs is a relationship built on trust, safety, and protectiveness and while neither is willing to let the other out of their life, they are slow to recognize when love enters their relationship as both expect the other to leave them eventually. While you can probably get away with reading Gunny as a standalone, I really advise reading Jase first at the bare minimum but the entire series is well worth the read as the Rebel Wayfarers MC has an increasingly complex series theme building in the background that will make the book more meaningful when read in order. Gunny was everything I hoped for and more and I am excited that it brings us one book closer to Mason’s story as I’m looking forward to his book even more than I was Gunny’s.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!
I just finished Gunny and I just loved it! This is apart of the Rebel Wayfarers series so for me it's a definite must to read this in order. From the beginning of the series to the last book (Jase) Gunny has gotten more developed and we see that he is protecting Sharon (Jases sister) in Jase so we get to see why he is the way he is and why he does the things he does. He's the quiet one so to read his words, they just broke my heart. He's an ex-marine and it is not by his choice. He misses the friendship that he had and gets to see a glimpse of that with meeting Deke. He had lost his way and finds what he is looking for with the Rebel Wayfarers. He earns his rankings within the MC but still at times keeps things on the himself. He suffers from PTSD and very few know the details. But these are his brothers, his family and they are there for him no matter what. From what he experienced he will only get close to a select few.
"What most people did not realize was when you came home, when you left the battlefield behind, sometimes you brought things back with you too."
Now he doesn't expect his strong reaction to Sharon. All he can do is keep an eye on her but when she has to leave, he can't let her go. She is broken physically and mentally and he will do what he can because she is his whether he wants to admit it or not.
"A sense of calmness had settled over him at the feel of her soft skin under his rough palm, and he took in what seemed like the easiest breathe in a decade, holding her arm. It seemed like...everything that had ever troubled him just...receded, pulled back for this moment, gave him peace."
Sharon hasn't felt safe in forever. After finally escaping her ex husband she finds solace dancing and lands a job at Slinkys. Always looking over her shoulder mentally exhausts her but when she meets Gunny she feels safe.
"When he approached her now, as it had earlier, the fear lodged inside her swelled as it always did just because he was male, but far stronger than alarm was a sense of coming home. Held in his arms, she was peaceful, because she would never have to fear, not while in his presence. He would protect her, would never hurt her. She felt no panic, because with him, she was safe."
When her ex finally catches up to her, she doesn't know what to do. She gets helps unknowingly from the Rebels MC. As Gunny and Sharon both grow close quickly they will both have to let down their walls and protect each other.
"He simply had to know...needed to know she was okay, needed that to breathe. And sometimes, when he thought he saw pieces of his own fear and terror in her eyes, he wanted her to know she wasnt alone, would never be alone again."
I'm loving this series. What makes it extra special to me is how the story intertwines with all that the Rebels hold dear. I know from this story there is still so much to learn and I'm good with that. I felt like we got enough to go on leaving me wanting more. The characters are all so versatile and distinct and I got so caught up with them that I feel like I'm one of them. Now that I have to wait on the next story, I'm getting the whole lost feeling once again!
I'll be waiting, rather impatiently for Mason! Hell, Hoss, Deke, Duckie, Ben, Mercy, and so many more!
Review for Gunny (Rebel Wayfarers MC #5) by MariaLisa deMora
Gunny is the fifth book in the Rebel Wayfarers MC by MariaLisa deMora and can be read as a stand-alone, but because the series is fabulous you should read them all. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the way that deMora not only steps outside of the box, but made her own freaking box is astounding. This book, more than the others, really showcases how she keeps the MC world more realistic than any of the other books in the genre.
I thought that Jase was going to be my favorite, that I couldn’t love any of the Rebels more than him … but Gunny? Everything about Gunny screams ‘love me’.
“I want to keep you safe, keep you from harm. I want to give you everything you want… any desire…”
Sharon was on the run from her abusive ex-husband and she ended up at Slinky’s dancing at the Rebel’s strip club. When her ex came back with a vengeance the life she was trying to carve out for herself was lost to his fury. When Gunny saw the bruises on her face, something sparked inside him and his every cell throbbed with the need to protect her.
“My life … you are my life, Sharon. My obsession, my love. If anything happened to you, I don’t know what I would do.”
God, Gunny, I can’t even form words to express my thoughts and feelings about this character. Suffering the effects of PTSD from a mission gone wrong while deployed in the sandbox, he is a beast of a man keeping everyone at a distance. Except her. The intensity of his feelings for her scream at you from the pages of the book. In Jase you get a feel for what’s happening between them, but reading it from Sharon and Gunny’s POVs? Intense doesn’t really do it justice. The tenderness Gunny shows to her when she’s hurt and the gentle way he cares for her will melt your heart, I know it did mine.
My gorgeous gentle giant.
Something else that shocked me about this book is how erotic the sex scenes are. I mean holy freaking hotness. I guess I was expecting something different because of Sharon’s past, but it’s hotter than the other books by far. Or maybe it’s just because it’s a bit on the kinkier side of things. Definitely makes a smut loving book whore happy.
Gunny has drama, mystery, romance, and so much emotion that you’ll need a box of tissues. There are so many little touches in this book that connect pieces to the puzzle that have been dropped throughout the series. The intricate way that deMora ties her characters together adds a dynamic to the character development that I’ve never seen in another writing style before. I’m constantly impressed by this author and I’m waiting with bated breath to get Mason’s story. Five shining stars for Rebel Wayfarers MC #5 and five drenched panties for Gunny. An absolute must read!
I LOVE this series! I was very excited for Gunny’s story and was not disappointed! Gunny is everything I look for in an alpha biker! He is hot, tattooed, commanding, and protective to a fault. The way he talks with Sharon, grunting like a caveman with his “mine” and “need you” and “want you”, is sure to dampen everyone’s panties. I know! The way he wraps his body around hers at all times, it’s like he can’t breathe without her. There is no doubt in my mind that these two have a soul deep connection.
Sharon finds her safe place the minute Gunny wraps himself around her. She has been through so much abuse in her life that she doesn’t trust men easily, if at all. But with Gunny, it is an instant relief of her burden because she just knows he will keep her safe. She has a hard time trying to fit in with all the other old ladies, but it willing keep trying.
What happens between Gunny and Sharon is pure magic and was a very beautiful story that I am most fortunate to have read. I can’t wait to see what is in store next! MASON!
LEEANN'S REVIEW 4 STARS
Lane Robinson was a Marine and he was kicked to the curb when he was injured & they deemed him un-deployable. He has moved on with his life and joined the Rebels MC. He has slowly but progressively moved his way up the ranks & made this his life. He has a bond with his MC brothers & knows they will always have his back, just as he has theirs. He now is known as Gunny.
Sharon aka Shar has escaped an abusive husband & been on the run for a long time. She gets a job at the Rebels Strip club & this is where Gunny first sets eyes on her. It’s not until her ex-husband turns up that he gets to know her.
Gunny & Sharon are solid in their new relationship but with all the hurdles they come up against, I found myself wondering how much more this couple could take. But with everything that is thrown at them they always manage to come out stronger.
This story started off a bit slow for me and there are lots of flashbacks for both Gunny & Sharon throughout the whole book. At times It seemed this was a bit of an overkill, but in actual fact they were needed to shed light on their pasts and to help understand where they were coming from. Once I got to about 20% the story picked up pace & I found myself getting frustrated at my families interruptions because I really wants to see what this couple was going to be dealing with next.
On their own, Sharon & Gunny are extremely interesting but with the ‘Support’ characters in this story it takes the interest factor to another level. They are an interesting group of people & the family they have created for themselves with in the club is amazing.
If you like MC books, this one is certainly worth checking out!
Ok so I may have already admitted this in my review for Jase BUT I was a slacker and have read this series out of order. I love longer stories , more details and just more !! These books have that and so I read Mica and then had to jump forward to Jase , then went back and now have moved to Gunny !! I know BAD BLOGGER ! I am feeling much better now about the story line and again I love that this author isn't afraid to go the extra mile and write a longer story with tons of details and many many names , issues and events. I feel I can relate to the characters better and know them more. My only concern was in the beginning , there was a lot of going back and forth from past to present and although there was a clear marking i really like having a heading stating when or where and when. It was kind of a guessing game , reading the first paragraph and then realizing oh this is the past... Regardless once the story kicked into the present it flowed and I enjoyed Gunny and Shar as I knew I would.
We got a little taste of Gunny in Jase's book and we knew he was going to be intense ! I was looking forward to his story and seeing how life played out for he and Shar. I mean after all she had been through , to wake in the arms of a stranger you knew it could go downhill pretty fast. But Gunny being who he was made Shar feel so safe that their relationship started in an odd way but almost seems more real than most. Of course there was no lack of drama and heartache in this book. The flashbacks from both of them were heart wrenching and they really were the perfect match. Then we have all the puzzle pieces that connected things in their pasts to the present that may just blow your mind. Gunny is a thinker and at times his thinking made me dizzy but it also solved the many mysteries we had building in this story. We got pieces of the past , we got interactions with the characters we have grown to love and we got a build up of possibilities of what is to come !! Gunny and Shar have a great chemistry , it is AMAZINGLY HOT. The dirty talk , the words Gunny uses , enough to make me blush ! It was panty melting anytime they were together. I look forward to more and hope to get a bit more of these two in the future as well.
I LOVE this series! I LOVE Gunny! Most certainty can be read as a standalone, but I strongly recommend enjoying in sequenced order. Each journey is just to amazing to miss. There is also that chain reaction movement( that's what I refer to it anyway). Every individual storyline has a conclusion. The reaction occurs when detail/ characters from one storyline find themselves evolving in another. Such as an introduction of a character, a brief explanation to an event, etc. There are books that excel past what is placed as the norm rating system. A few that exceed the boundaries and expectations to fit inside that typical 0-5 star placement. This is one of those!!!! A storyline of this magnitude should never have a limited value placed on it's creativity. I realize to meet requirements I have to « SO » I SCREAM 5 5 5 5 5 5 . The writing and storytelling of this author is exquisite. From the first word(including the dedication etc) to the very last punctuation mark, I was mesmorized-- Completely oblivious to reality around me. The need to read,to know, to find the answers, and settle my heart was all I could think about Several sensitive subject matters included. So please read the description. There may be triggers for some readers. Emotions run high and all over the place. I had moments in which I had to close my eyes and breath. Regroup and go again. Tissues are a must. So many relatable moments. Excellent representation and accurate portrayal. Very clear that research and respect was given. An honest and well written reminder that personal battles come in many and various forms. Don't judge and dismiss what you can't see. Sometimes the struggle or fight is within oneself. The love and relationship formation / development is so genuine. Characters so realistic. Two damaged souls trying to find a normalcy. I fell completely in love. The warm and fuzzy from two people connecting and healing each other. Sometimes safety and comfort can be provided/received when one least expects it. My recommendation for this magnificent read is so strong. I would suggest this series for every library. Can't wait for the next. AndreaGAH (arc)
This author really does know how to confuse the ever loving hell out of the reader! (I'll get back to this comment momentarily...)
So Gunny...Poor damaged Gunny! I think him and Sharon might be my favorite couple next to Slate and Ruby!
I have to admire Sharon because despite everything her psychotic ex husband put her through, she was still a very strong willed woman. She had the courage to leave, get divorced and even though she lived in fear of being found, she still lived her life. I have to give her credit for that. I would have liked for her to have called upon her family in her time of need, but I can understand her position and why she felt she couldn't.
I can't pretend to sit here and understand what PTSD is or how it affects people, but I think the author did a pretty good job of portraying someone with PTSD through Gunny. As I said he was so damaged, it was beautiful to see how him and Sharon basically completed each other. Theirs was a magnificent story!
What I don't get is why it is implied that these books can be read as Standalones, when each and every one interacts with its predecessor and also the one that will eventually follow. If a reader begins this series with Jase's book, for example, they will be hopelessly confused..lol. Which brings me to my original statement, why does this author enjoy confusing us readers! What in God's name was up with that bit about Mason, the kidnapped women, Willa, Mica, Eddie? He kills someone, but it's not clear who, is it Judge? Who kidnapped the women? WTH happened in that chapter!!!!!!! It was so glossed over I can only hope and pray that it is explained in detail in Mason's book or I'm going to be very pissed off!!! Oh and now I understand the connection between Jonny, Mason, Judge and DeeDee!
With that being said, I just want to add one more thing..so far the sexual interaction between all couples has been super hot but Gunny and Sharon has been the absolute best! Gunny was rocking that shit!!!! Just saying....
Lane Robinson, former Marine has been kind of wandering through life. After a mission that ends in lost lives, he’s discharged from the Marines, and looking for somewhere to call home. He finds that home with the Rebel Wayfarers. He has the close knit family unit he had when he was in the Marines, but he’s dealing with some demons from the time of his service. He’s been suffering from PTSD, and not many people in his MC are aware of his past.
Sharon Elkins is running from something, but no one knows what. While working at a strip club owned by the Rebels, Gunny sees her dance, and his transfixed by her beauty and grace. He doesn’t know what it is about Sharon, but Gunny feels so protective of her. He sees pain in her, and somehow he thinks she sees the same in him. When Sharon is put in danger, Gunny will do anything to keep her safe.
As they get closer to one another, they both feel as if they’ve met their other half, who they should be with. They seem to understand each other, and with that close bond, they help heal one another. Through both of them becoming part of the Rebels, Gunny and Sharon are shown they have a family that will always have their back. Something they both want and need.
This was such a beautiful and touching book in this series. You get more insight into Mason, Slate, Bear, Jase, and some of their ties that weren’t known and/or clarified in previous books.
Lots of action from the beginning, I really enjoyed this story. This book really pulled at my heart, and was rooting for Gunny all the way. He is a true hero, and he selflessly gives to his woman, and his brothers.
Gunny is the fifth book in the Rebel Wayfarer’s MC series. This is definitely my favorite of the series so far.
I received this ARC for an honest review, and I give it 4.5 stars.
Gunny (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #5) by MariaLisa deMora is the next installment on one of the brothers of the club. This is Gunny and Sharon’s story. We met Gunny and Sharon in Jase’s story. Sharon is Jase’s sister and is recovering from her beating from her ex husband and Gunny is the brother who no one really knows. He keeps to himself and very few people know his story. The story begins with Gunnery sergeant Lane Robinson being the lone survivor of an ambush and walking for 3 weeks before he is back on base. After recovering from his injuries he is no longer fit for duty. He has lost his best friend, the only family he has and has PTSD. He finds himself working for Deke a brother of the Rebel Wayfarers. Deke sees something in Lane and brings him into the brotherhood of the MC. As with previous books we still see another point of view of a set of events that have previously happened. We do see other events as they happen to Lane who is now Gunny a name given to him by Mason. We also get to see what has been happening to Sharon up into the point she begins dancing at the strip club. Not only do we get to learn Gunny and Sharon’s story of love but we also learn more about Mason and his past. Once again I am really looking forward to Mason’s story so all lose ends will be tied up and we can know the full story of why so many people are out for the club. Hopefully Gunny’s HEA will be told and I get to see how he is as a father plus all the other previous characters from the other books. I give Gunny 3 ½ stars
I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was kept interested. The story has laughs, pain, abuse, love, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Mica (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #1) Slate (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #2) Bear (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #3) Jase (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #4)
This is Sharon and Gunny’s story. Gunny is broken. When he sees Sharon he just wants her and to help heal her. She is broken and he will do anything to protect her. When her ex comes for them he knows he needs to take care of the issue. Gunny also is great a solving puzzles and needs to learn to work with the other brother’s in the club to solve the mystery of who wants to take out the Rebels. Can he work with the brothers and take out who is coming after the club? Can he also talk Sharon into a forever with him? After all the abuse she has suffered can she trust Gunny to not only love and protect her? Can they heal each other’s broken pieces?
I loved both of these characters. Gunny suffers from PTSD. You can feel his frustration and pain throughout the story. Sharon is strong and sweet but also broken. As always you get a ton of the side characters in this story so it’s not just Gunny and Sharon. But all in all I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.
Gunny keeps to himself, he has a shit ton of baggage and tries to keep a handle on things on a daily basis. He is better, better than when he got home from being discharged. Sometimes the here and now reality slips from him but not like it used too. Finding himself yearning for a connection, he finds himself a new family with the Rebel Wayfarers MC and this is as close to being with his brothers in the service as he can get. He helps with building the bikes, to bouncing at the strip club. Things running as smooth as can be until she starts dancing for the club. That's when Gunny's world is turned upside down.
Sharon barely escaped from her abusive husband. Now she is set to make a fresh start and wants to live her life with the freedom she has found after running as far away as possible from her husband. She finds a job dancing at a strip club, but she keeps her clothes on while she dances, but that doesn't stop the seduction of her dance. She has always loved to dance, but now she can loose herself while she does it. She feels safe here. She has seen Gunny every night she dances as he watches her dance. They have never spoken but she knows he's there to keep her protected.
One night is all it takes to bring these two together, the night the past met the present. His name is Gunny.
I really liked this book. I love this whole series! It's full of every kind of emotion, from nothing to all. MariaLisa deMora, you have my Attention!!!!

I decided to take on Gunny after I got on a MC Romance kick. I have to say it was a great decision on my part. This story is amazing and so real. MariaLisa does a very good job of taking you in to the heart of this story and pulling at some very strong emotions. This one thing that makes a book for me, if the author can bring me in, make me feel what the characters are feeling you have me.
You are taken into the life of Gunny a Marine that had his life career taken from him with the loss of his team in Iraq. Suffering with PTSD and never feeling like he really fit back in to the civilian world, he is learning to crave his own path in life. When his boss invites him to grab a drink with him one night after work, he feels like he has found a piece of home. Then just when he thinks life can’t get much better he is drawn to a dancer that come in to the club of MC, he can’t take his eyes off her. Sharon is trying to pull herself out of a life that once almost took it. Can these two broken souls come to find piece together.
I have enjoyed every second of this story. I will say there were parts for me that I did have to stop and reread to grasp the change in points of view. At times you were reading in first person and then it would switch to what seemed like third person or someone else telling the story. This didn’t take away from the story for me. This is one MC story that takes you to the heart of feeling everything that Gunny and Sharon would feel. Beautifully written!
Loved Gunny! I was so happy to get my hands on this one because I just knew Gunny's story would be intense from the glimpses we got of him in Jase. I was definitely not disappointed!
As always, Author MariaLisa deMora brought us another winner with this fifth book in the Rebel Wayfarers MC series, Gunny! The writing was top-notch as I've come to expect and immensely appreciate from this writer. My only issue was that the timeline didn't seem real clear towards the beginning of the book. I was confused a few times, but I figured it out and it didn't necessarily detract from the story.
The characters were so well developed and familiar from the previous books. I absolutely LOVE a series that gives you bits and pieces (or more) of the characters and the progression of their stories from previous books. We got that in Gunny.
The struggles and issues Gunny dealt with throughout the book were very real and informative, really. It is very obvious that the author certainly did her research thoroughly. That is something I completely respect in a writer. Not only were the issues realistic, but the entire MC life/experience. Kudos to this author for her hard work!
I cannot freaking wait to get my hands on Mason -Mason's BOOK, I mean...or whatever, ya know...lol!
MariaLisa de Mora has a beautiful dedication at the beginning of Gunny that needs to be read for Veterans everywhere! I loved it! I feel that MariaLisa did a great job and honoring our Veterans with this terrible disorder of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Gunny is the 5th book in the Wayfarers MC. And this is Lane Robinson aka Gunny & Sharon Elkin’s Story. I fell in love with Gunny. He is a war veteran and he is the lone survivor of his last mission. Gunny suffers from PTSD. I fell in love with Gunny and his story! Sharon is Jase’s sister. We found a little about Sharon in Jase’s book 4. Sharon has been on the run from a previously bad relationship and is still married to her abuser. Her husband finds her and beats her. Gunny becomes her protector and forms a bond with Sharon. Sharon becomes his “Rose of Sharon” The story continues and you need to read the rest so you can learn the rest of their story.
Gunny is my favorite of all the books in this series. The reading order is Mica, Slate, Bear, Jase & Gunny. It looks like Mason (the Prez) of Wayfarers MC will finally get his own story in October 2015. I have been waiting to find out more about Mason! So I am looking forward to reading it! Come on October!
I was gifted a copy of Gunny for an honest review and I give Gunny 5 stars.
Ok so if you are unfamiliar with MariaLisa DeMora, stop reading this and go to her Amazon author page and start one clicking. But start with MICA...... from there she will lead you on, tease you, cause you to wonder, and search for answers. Even though this is an MC series DeMora gives us so much more with each book, and I really wanted Gunny's book, BAD.
Gunny seems so broken and lost, and although we don't get as much of a background story on him as we did with Slate and Bear and even Mica there is still enough there to tell you that Gunny is falling apart and just doesn't know how to fix it. Until Sharon, and she is so strong much like her alpha biker she finds herself with. They both need each other so badly top help find a way to move past everything that has happened to them. Separately, they are strong, but together they can beat any obstacle life tosses their way.
If I write more I will tell you the entire story and ruin it, so I'm done here. I wish I could just write " just read this now!" and be done but it seems a bit rude.
She has a hard time trying to fit in with all the other old ladies, but is willing to keep trying. What happens between Gunny and Sharon is pure magic and was a very beautiful story that I am most fortunate to have read. I can’t wait to see what is in store next! MASON!
