Set in New York and Havana during 1960, The Cuban Connection introduces ace reporter Katherine O’Connor, who has a nose for news and an inclination to use it in very dangerous places. I love ML Malcolm's writing, and with all the attention on Cuba at present, I couldn't wait to dive in. I love the strong female protagonist, and the tale is adventure-packed. It moves quickly without sacrificing the development of the main characters. I'd love to see a sequel with Katherine to see what her next escapade will be!

An excellent novel based on historical facts during Castro’s beginning reign over Cuba.
The story is seen through the eyes of Katherine O’Connor, a budding reporter, who wants to tell the Cuban people’s story. What really went on after Fidel Castro was elected, broke his promises, and teamed up with communist Russia?

Enjoyable read

I went to college with the author so I've read all her books. Her first was her best but this one is quite good too. I liked the main character and thought the author really found her voice. The parallels between two other main characters were well drawn and generally subtle. This book is a timely read, given that Cuba is being opened for the first time in over 50 years. In all, I recommend it.

I love M.L. Malcolm books but I think this one just wasn't for me. After 150 pages, I can't get into it. I have to step away from it. :(
