This is set primarily in Toronto in 1839, although some of the characters take a brief trip to New York City later on. I thoroughly enjoyed my return to the Toronto of 1838-39. Gutteridge continues to develop Marc Edward's character, showing us how the young man is maturing within the community and his relationships. Cobb continues to mature as well, watching and learning from Marc. The gentle insertion of the importance of women in the lives of the main characters and in the young city is appreciated. Since I read this novel on Kindle, I took advantage of the Dictionary.com links and improved my vocabulary. A g ...more
