The boy next door. That’s what he was. Dash Frasier—my hero from the day we met, when I was six and he was nine. His sister was my best friend, the three of us one happy crew. Then one sweaty summer night changed everything.

No one understood me like Dash. No one made me feel so loved. That’s why, when he skipped town, it wrecked me.

Now I’m older. Wiser. I’ve just snagged

descriptionThis cover is OK. It is pretty generic and not really how I pictured the hero. The composition is good though. I would have moved the title a little more to the left, but otherwise, it is fine.description

descriptionI don't really have a lot to say about this one. It was just OK for me. My FIL passed away Monday so I wasn't in the chiperest of moods to begin with, and this one sounded like it would be a cute lighthearted read. It was NOT.

The writing was fine. It was nicely paced. I just didn't connect with either o

This book was... I don't even know.
Maybe I'd simply say it was all over the place??
I think that's the best way to describe it.
She loves him... she hates him... she fucks him... she runs from him.
He loves her... he ditches her... he fucks her... he hates himself for it.

Whip. Lash.

I didn't like either of the main characters even a little bit. Dash was so damn depressing. Reading his POV was a serious downer. Amelia was an absolute doormat. Good grief, girl... get your shit together. Both of them

I went into this looking for a lighthearted second chance kind of plot line and this turned out to be the book version of a literal wet-blanket. This book made me feel like I would never be happy again, everything was depressing and each of the characters's inner monologues were impossible to bear.

her: I love him. But he hurt me. But I literally can't stop my hands from reaching out and petting him.
him: I love her. But she should hate me. Because of that thing that I'm going to wait

There are few types of books that go under the category of good. Some start bad and boring but at certain point catches up, some are “good” from the beginning to the end, some are start “good” and just frizzles off at the end. This one? Definitely belongs to the latter. At first I was really excited. Thinking that the book was keep on being as awesome as it started. Even in the updates I was somewhat excited by the prospect of the book. Within few chapters the book managed to capture my full att ...more
Ella James is BACK and she is kicking up the angst factor in her newest release, THE BOY NEXT DOOR, book two in her Off-Limits Romance Series. To say that this friends-to-lovers romance was a walk in the park would be a HUGE understatement. Like in many of her books, she makes you work for the happily ever after and I think that is the thing that I love most about her style of writing. If you are looking for a light-hearted romance, look somewhere else, because THE BOY NEXT DOOR is everything bu ...more

I had a hard time rating this. To be honest, I had such high expectations for this book but in the end I was a bit let down.
Let me start by saying that I love Ella James. Many of her books are some of my top favorites, especially her fairytale retellings.
I loved the premise of the story. The story of the young girl crushing

One of the things I dislike about writing a review, is that I am worried my thoughts and feelings won't come across as I intend them. I don't want readers, nor the author, to think I am being picky or trying to tear down their work. I'm just simply giving my reasons for my ratings just as I would do for a book I loved. It's easy when I absolutely LOVE a book, it's easy to convey why, but when a book just doesn't do it for me, it's almost

The Boy Next Door Meets the World!

I really loved the concept of where this book could have gone but sadly it fell short for me in various of areas. The beginning really grabbed my attention and left me feeling for the protagonist. But as the story progressed it started becoming unclear about the relationship between The protagonist and her love interest. I couldn't really tell a lot about there relationship if they really had a strong conn

I was completely sucked into this book. Dash is Amazing... he is my favorite character from Ella James so far! His dark soul that is so wanting to love Ammy is completely beautiful. I didn't expect dark when I read the blurb but I got it and loved it so much.
Ammy just wants one thing... for Dash to love her forever!
The thing is... He already does... and he is wrecked by his past and his love for her.
Dash and Ammy have a long road ahead in this story... but I literally could not put it down.

Once again I’m in an Ella James book hangover and it’s delicious!!!! I fell completely in love with the protagonists, Amelia and Dash. Their lives were intertwined with fate from the moment they met with his ‘messy brown hair and sun-kissed skin’, her impulsive flight and lost glasses, and the perfect nickname he gives her on the spot.

The story begins very sweet with just the right amount of pull to keep you reading. Then, all of a sudden you are 40% finished with all the tiny threads of awesom

I’m not even sure how to start this review because The Boy Next Door by Ella James is simply indescribable. It’s an emotionally powerful journey that has reached down deep into my soul and jumbled my mind. I feel scrambled up in the most exquisite ways because this novel had such a significant impact on me. Ella has created and provided readers with a truly sensational story that everyone needs to experience.

For the first time in a long time, I am going to love up on the heroine first. Amel

The theme of the story, which is Dash's past, is not something I usually read in romance book. And I do like the author put it as the theme of this book.

I wish that the author can do more exploring the impact of it on Dash. But I don't see it here. Instead, the resolution of it, is fast and forced. I also feel the Author wasting time on exploring how Amelia trying to coax Dash to tell her his past. It feels dragging.

I do not want to tell more of the story because it will be spoiler. Overall I

I had things to do, but I just couldn't stop reading until the last emotion-changing page! Ella James never fails to grab my heart & mind and twist them. I love her story lines and writing style. Twists & turns, with the perfect amount of steam... This book had me begging for answers, and applauding when it was over. Emotions definitely ran the gamut... Thank you, Ella James! ...more

I think this is the book I have been looking for, for the last few weeks, something that grabs me.
Our Hero and Heroine, have been friends since Amelia literally fell into Dash's pool when she was six.
We start with the now, and the book flicks back and forward so we get an idea of the life the two have had.
Amelia lost her mom, when she was only young, and her dad has moved her into a new home, one she doesn't

Dash is dashing. He had me when he found Amelia's glasses at the swimming pool. I want to be his Dove and I will make cute little coo noises whilst I play with his hair, and rub his abs.

Dash also broke my heart into little pieces. Then I wanted to pull his hair and punch him in the stomach. I love me a hipster so I forgave him.

I am a sucker for boy next door/childhood friends to lovers stories and bearing in mind the title of the book is The Boy Next Door, it really does do what it says on the t

Cringing and perverted IMO

Besides again the doormat female who goes after the male and keeps jumping in his bed whenever is convenient for him.

I found this gem:

Over dramatized and the big WOW issue was totally abused and overplayed. I was expecting something way worse and perhaps life-threatening. Nope - nothing readers haven't read often. I wasn't really into either of the main characters. I felt a sad moment or two. Another classic case of keeping your mouth shut when a little conversation would go along ways to settling so much in such a short amount of time. Not really what I was expecting. Disappointing.

Heart broken Amelia Has tried to move on from her childhood crush, but when she suddenly has to work with him is she going to be able to forgive and forget?

Let me start with my emotions on Dash were all over the place. I started off liking him and then I seriously wanted to punch him, but then of course I was back to liking him. When his big secret came out my heart broke for him.

The angst was powerful and Amelia's love for Dash was unstoppable. The only thing I would have changed was I wish Ame

I really enjoyed this book, a lot. It definitely can be read as a standalone, as somehow I managed to not read the 1st title in the series, not sure quite how that happened, but other than some minor updates as to where the characters are now, it is not necessary to have read it.

Dash and Amelia grew up together, as neighbors, the kind that see a lot of each other. And, then he leaves for college. When he comes back, they have a hot night toget

OMG!!! I am in complete book hangover and I just finished it! What can I say about Dash and Amelia??? Dash is the book boyfriend you take home to impress mom but wins dad over in the process.
Without giving too much away, Dash and Amelia grew up together and were best friends with Alexia, Dash's sister. As some childhood friends know, as they grew up, they drifted apart.

Fast forward a few years and Amelia now in college has a summer internship. Walking in on her first day she is met face to fac

The Boy Next Door by Ella James was a heart squeezing read that had me hooked from page one. If you like "the feels", this book has them all. I read it in one sitting, because I just couldn't put it down.

I love the unexpected twists Ella gives us in her books, and this one didn't disappoint. Dash and Ammy will break your heart, make you laugh, and piss you off all in the same chapter. Though both can be read as standalones, The Boy Next Door is an excellent follow up to Crown Jewels, book one i

The Boy Next Door was a beautiful story that seemlessly blends past and present
moments between Ammy and Dash. I loved every bit of it. Ella James takes you back to a time of innocence, young love, secrets and dreams. With her descriptive words you feel the breeze, see the stars and feel your heart break. The present will draw you in and captivate you. My gawd Dash is so delish! The chemistry between Ammy and Dash is off the charts and their journey to overcome the past is beautiful and tragic.

I liked this one quite a bit! It got a bit more serious than I was expecting it to, some of Dash's experiences were definitely not for the faint of heart. You might anticipate that this one will be light and sweet but there's some heavy stuff in it.

Unlikeable Characters!!

What can I say about this book?... When you are reading a book and you can't connect with the characters, and not only that, but you dislike them and hate their actions, you're not enjoying it... I can only say that I didn't like it. It was definitely not for me.
The story is about Dash and Amelia whom I cannot bring myself to call Hero and heroine. They meet when they are 9 and 6 respectively. They live next to each other and so they grow up together and they develop a rea

Huge disappointment in this book. Dash's secret was played out too long to where it was not he should of been too old to be afraid of his secret. Neither character is likable. While I liked learning the animation industry I felt Nashville could of been fleshed out more. Some characters were introduced and floated above the story or dropped in without any context. It may of been from other book in series. ? Her dad is mentioned but Manda floats in and out of his life and it has n ...more
