What country legend Brent Kane needs is a good old fashioned hook-up. With pressure to write his next album mounting and the sales from his latest album teetering, Brent needs to find his muse –hot sex with no commitment—fast. So when Brent holes up at his best friend’s ranch in Somewhere Texas to write his next single the last thing he expected was to find his muse in the form of his best friend’s little sister.
DJ Diaz, the nonsense part owner of the Double D Ranch, is not at all affected by Brent’s good looks and play boy charm. She’s fallen once before and learned firsthand the heartache of loving a rock star. But spending time with the man who let her down ten years ago shows her that something’s missing from her life—fun.
But will DJ be able to keep her heart from becoming involved in this “just for fun” relationship? And more importantly, will Brent?

I wouldn't really call this a rock star romance. Very little rockin' and a whole lotta two-steppin'. It's really not even a second chance romance. More like the long-lost childhood friend, whose records now top the charts of country music, returns to the ranch and finds his best friend's little sister has grown into a woman -- and one he wants.
You can probably figure out the plotting from here on out -- it's standard. He's a bad boy who needs to find his muse -- and she's the good girl who works hard along side her brother to keep the family ranch going after the death of both parents in a tragic accident. Danielle (DJ) is a spirited and strong character. But Brent has always been a weak link for her. DJ's brother Derrek plays a big part in the story as well. He's Brent's life-long best friend.
These three make for a well-rounded out cast. There's fun, laughter, disappointment and romance. There's even a pink pick-up truck that easily puts a smile on your face and a happily-ever-after that comes a little too quickly but does include a diamond.
It’s been 10 years since DJ Diaz and her brother Derrek’s parents were killed. DJ was only 15, and since then the siblings have had to manage their ranch alone. DJ knows nothing but hard work, that’s basically all she does, she never has time for fun. Derrek’s best friend Brent Kane left shortly before the fateful accident, and didn’t come back for the funeral, which broke DJ’s heart; he was also her best friend. Brent had left because he couldn’t miss an opportunity to start his budding music career. He is now the biggest country music star, and a playboy as well. When Brent hits a writer’s block, he asks Derrek to take him for a weekend, which becomes longer, because he cannot get DJ out of his mind.
Brent is a real charmer, and quite full of himself, and I absolutely loved that DJ is not impressed by his money or his status, even though she finds him extremely attractive, but he rubs her the wrong way. He is used to having everyone at his beck and call, while she works like mad, only to make ends meet. Brent desperately wants to have DJ in his bed, but she wants nothing of it, because she knows it won’t last, that he’ll leave again like he did so many years ago. I found astonishing that Ms. Klein is able to convey all of DJ’s rage, exhaustion, pain, without ever making her unpleasant; I really loved DJ. It’s easy to relate to her long and exhausting days, as well as why she resists Brent; he will not treat her like a groupie. I also rather liked Brent, even though he thinks he’s God’s gift to womankind, so much so that I was at the point of really disliking him, when things changed. Ms. Klein, true to form, has created exemplary characters in THE COWBOY ROCK STAR; so complex, they seem like people we know rather than fictional creations. And I honestly had no idea how everything would turn out until the very end. And lo and behold, trust Ms. Klein to make things works perfectly logically, without compromising her characters’ integrity; I was extremely pleased at how the relationship issues were settled between Brent and DJ.
KC Klein is an author I can always depend for riveting stories, which is especially rare with romances, and beautiful, eloquent writing, with dialogues that sound entirely realistic. KC Klein knows how to write it perfectly!
Rock Star Cowboy was great. I completely fell into the story. It is perfectly balanced with serious/funny, crushing/heartwarming, and dislike/love. Extremely well written with great characters and an interesting story. I loved the characters and their interactions. I found myself laughing a lot. Thank you so much KC for pulling me out of my reading slump and giving me exactly what I needed!
DJ has had a hard life. Losing her parents at fifteen, her and her brother were left to take care of the ranch and get it out of debt. Being a woman in charge of a ranch means she has to work hard and be better to gain the respect of the ranch hands. Strong, stubborn, hardworking, Brent makes her see she's become a stick-in-the-mud and needs to have some fun.
Brent worked his @$$ off to become the Country Star he is. Now he has writer's block and is scared he's going to lose everything. He's cocky, full of himself, sexy as sin, and not used to hearing the word no.
I loved this story, but boy some of the things Brent did I would have killed him. This book had me laughing and crying. I highly recommend it because Brent redeems himself in the most romantic way possible thrown in with shenanigans you would come expect from DJ and Brent.
This story has a little of everything, sweet romance, sexy overbearing and frustrating alpha make and a beautiful woman who has the right heart and spirit. Thoroughly enjoying and entertaining.

DJ fell in love as a teenager but all Brent wanted was to get out of town and become a rock star. He made it, and is back to visit with his best friend, her brother.
Can she keep strong and not let herself fall for him again. He's gorgeous, talented, has it all and is use to women throwing themselves at him. But no matter how hard he try's, she's not falling for it again. They're constant bantering at times is laugh out loud funny, and at other times fills the room with sexual tension.
Both DJ and Brent are afraid of what they're feeling. The running and chasing tells a great story all the way to the end. You'll have to read it to see what happens when Brent once again leaves DJ to go back to his Rock Star life.
If you enjoy romance with humor and sexual tension this book is for you. The author hooks you from beginning to end and I really hope to read about DJ and Brent again.
I met K.C. Klein at Arizona Dreamin' 2011 but this is the first time I've had a chance to read one of her books. She read a snippet of this tale at her book club and it was AWESOME. It made me laugh and I picked up a copy. Boy am I glad I did. Brent Kane isn't a real cowboy, at least not compared to DJ Diaz, the sister to his best friend and at whose ranch he's crashing to find his muse. Too bad his muse is her and she's already had her heart broken by him in the past. But Brent isn't all flash and ego. He knows he's hurt her and he's trying to make it up to her. All he has to do is show her the real him, and that's scariest of all. This story made me laugh out loud in a few spots, and *facepalm* in others. Ms. Klein's voice is smart and funny, and her sex scenes are wonderful. This book is a great contemporary western romance read.
This is book 1 in the Somewhere Texas series and it kicks the series off with a bang. I read it twice could not get enough of Derrek and Dani. Derrek is a small twin boy who worked hard and made his dream come true. Dani is the little sister of Derek's best friend and the one girl he knows to stay away from. Dani lost her parents young and was raised by her brother. Now she is grown and running the ranch with her brother. I highly recommend this story to all cowboy lover. This is a story you want to read in one setting but just won't happen. Ha Ha. Happy reading.
Brent needed some down time to work on his next album and some no strings hot sex for inspiration. The only problem is the one woman he is attracted to is his best friend’s little sister. An all-around great read. I enjoyed the dynamic between Brent and DJ and their chemistry was so sexy. They both had lots of baggage to work through and find their way. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Excellent as always. I don't even like cowboys books but I'll read anything written by KC Klein. She knows how to tell a story and make you fall in love. Sigh.
He left this small town behind, including his friend and his little sister. Brent Kane Has come back needing inspiration and it comes in the surprising form of his best friend’s sister. She however is not surprised at her attraction to him. DJ Diaz, is part owner of the Double D ranch and has learned her lesson the hard way, after experiencing the heartache of loving this particular country singer. The problem is the more time she spends with him, the more she wants to.
This is the first book in a fun small town, contemporary romance, The Heart of Texas series. The characters are great, filled with passion, determination and foibles, the interaction between the characters is great. The storyline flows along smoothly and is filled with emotional drama as the characters deal with past experiences, internal struggles and external obstacles in their search for happiness. If you like emotional love stories, engaging, complex characters, and books that are hard to put down, then you should enjoy this book.

Contemporary second chances romance with two childhood friends finding love on their small town ranch in Somewhere, Texas. Is that a real place in Texas? Maybe. I'm too tired to look it up. Brent Kane is running away from his rock star lifestyle to find the peace and inspiration to make some new music. Somewhere Texas is where his childhood friends still work hard on their ranch.Miss DJ Diaz has given her whole adult life so far to her family's ranch, the Double D. DJ and Brent have lots of chemistry but for a variety of reasons, they try to stay away from making it anything more then friendship. Lots of cute flirty banter to fill this story that has no outside threats, only self made doubts and hurtful mistakes from the past to keep the H/h apart. HEA is guaranteed. 217 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last. Many years have passed since Brent left home to become a rock star leaving his best friend Derrick and his sister DJ behind. He went on to pursue his dreams and took a piece of DJ's heart with him. Coming back to stay at his friend's ranch to focus on writing his songs makes him realize that his life may not be the o e he wanted. Seeing DJ again and remembering that kiss many years, ago causes sparks to fly. Can the both overcome their fears? Can DJ learn to trust Brent and can Brent have the life he wants and still have DJ? The only way to find out is to buy this book and see where their story takes you. I loved this story and will now buy the others in this series.
Brent and DJ had a thing for each other in high school but Brent wanted to be a singer and up and left DJ for the opportunities in California. Brent is having a time with writing his next new song and decides to leave the big city for some rest and relaxation so he talks with his high school buddy Derrick, whom just happens to be DJ's big brother, about staying on their ranch for a weekend. Well the weekend ends up turning into a couple of weeks and the tension between Brent and DJ only gets thicker as time passes. Brent finds his stay at the ranch is anything but down time - he is helping around the ranch and learning a lot about life their. This story was a great find, I loved it from cover to cover - the characters were well developed and likeable and the second chance romance is always a good read.
Rock Star Brent goes to visit his best friend Derrek and is surprised how well his sister has grown. Having trouble coming up with the new songs needed for his next album Rock Star Brent arranges to spend a week on his best friend Derrek's ranch. They meet up in town at a local bar and as they sit having a drink a woman comes in and tears a strip off the owner of the tack and feed store for delivering the wrong feed. Brent finds his interest caught he tries to pick her up but is turned down and when he goes to the main house for breakfast the next morning he finds out why. She is Derrek's sister DJ who he had kissed then left town ten years before.

Brent needs a break from his music career and decides to go back to his hometown and visit his best friend, Derrick. He is going to be staying at Derrick and his younger sister, DJ's, ranch knowing that he owes DJ a long-overdue apology. But he hasn't seen her in ten years and still thinks of her as a young teenager... but DJ has had ten years to grow up too. And she's never forgiven Brent or moved on. Maybe now is the time for both.💗🔥💕
This the first book for the In The Heart of Texas series and really should be read in the order it was written. It's a really good romance that will make you laugh out loud and cry your heart out.❣️

The burnt out country star laden with writers block who thinks he's the universe's gift to women runs into the now grown, stubborn younger sister of his best friend, who seems to have a matryr complex. Their banter is witty and fun though sporadic. I would have liked to read more dialogue. The drunk scene with her brother was great. DJ is very angry over something that happened when they were kids. Assuming she knows all the details and that he never cared at all. Even when her brother lays some truth on her, she still blames Brent. I didn't really feel the chemistry between DJ and Brent, I thought she had a better connection with Chandler. This was good though. A nice start to a series and I'm looking forward to Chandler's book.
I enjoyed this book. It was a nice break from all the drama filled books that take over the market these days. I like those as well but enjoyed the simplicity of a well written story. I connected with the characters right away and I was quickly caught up in there love/hate relationship! There were times I would have enjoyed slapping Brent upside the head and times I would have loved to grab DJ and shake some sense into her. Those moments made me love the book even more! There may have been a couple of places that editing could be done but I've yet to find a book that doesn't have a mistake here or there. I will definitely enjoy reading more by this author and in this series!
I enjoyed the story for the most part. I liked that DJ learned to relax and smile and to take a break. I liked Brent's down to Earth for loving guy. I liked the flirt ing and little tiff that Brent and DJ got into. I wish there was a little more then I just want you in bed. I wanted more on their friendship and how it grows into love. It had a little too much of all I want is you in my bed. But the story was cute and I loved the pink truck! I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed it
Can DJ resist Brent? KC Klein has written another bewitching piece and I loved it. I enjoyed how the dialogue was so real you become so engrossed in the lives of the characters. For me, that is just brilliant writing and KC does it so well. This story has humor and chemistry and you will be hooked after the first few pages! If you are looking for a book with a complying story and is just plain fun to read I highly recommend you pick this one up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
How could Brent not recognize DJ? He is a rockstar charmer and she is a hard working rancher who never takes time for herself. They get off on the wrong foot and it’s not until they both realize that the other did their grieving differently do things start to change. It seems he lives up to his reputation. Both of them are interesting characters and the reader is left waiting to find how they arrive at their HEA. Good reading.

The Rock Star Cowboy is the debut book by KC Klein and the first of In The Heart of Texas series. I found the book was nicely written with an entertaining story-line and a couple nice characters in Brent and DJ, who were both well developed. There were a few things that I did not quite buy into and a few proofreading errors which bothered me. But overall this was a nice introduction to this author and I will try another book or two to see how the series progresses.
3stars as this lovely story evolves around only 3 characters on a ranch in texas. I wonder how the writer managed to dress this simple story that could have been told in few pages! A story about a musician and a farm girl is good theme. DJ is a good character. But too many superlatives from Brent, too much! Thumb up for the writer for avoiding pornographic cliche all the way ...
What if you left home as soon as you graduated from high school, to pursue your music dream? And now, you can't write any more, you've lost that edge, can you find it again by returning home? You write better with a muse and you think you've found her your first night back. But, the jokes on you, she's your best friend's kid sister, but, she's nobody's kid sister anymore. And she sure thinks you're a waste of space and her time.

This is the first book of this author’s I have read, really enjoyed the story and the loved the characters, would’ve loved a bit more at the end but thought maybe it carried on with Derek’s story?? I was lucky enough to have received a free copy of this book via and am voluntarily leaving a review, I really wish these were on KU as I would’ve loved to have read the rest of the series, BUT Derek really needs his HEA 😉
Rock Star (RC) andRancher (DJ) were an odd mix. Some parts were a stretch. Her bitterness over the kiss at 15 and his leaving. She knew he was leaving the next day. Other was her brother not telling her he told him not to come back for funeral. Her total lack of social life. Wouldn’t happen. But I enjoyed the antics and laughs between the couple. Loved the ending.
DJ (Danielle) was smart, hard, and needed some fun and love in her life. Derrick her older brother was getting old before his time. Their parents no longer with them and they are running the ranch. Brent, the rockstar cowboy and Derrick’s best friend growing up, taking a break from tours and staying at the ranch. A wonderful story of friends and their lives and what all happens. Love ❤️ DJ and Brent!
This was okay. A little on the boring side and dragged a little. The love scenes were not steamy enough for me. They were all worked up then fell completely flat blah. I was disappointed. This book had all the makings of an excellent read but it just fell flat. I ended up skimming thru it. That's no fun.
Brent is a country music superstar. Between his music and love life he needs a break. He goes to his home town to visit his best friend, Derrick, to regroup. DJ is Derrick's sister and they run the family ranch. Brent takes one look at her and realizes she his new muse for his music. The sparks fly between them but they both want diferent things in their lives. I really enjoyed this book.
