So many secrets. Nothing but secrets.

I started another life with a new husband, thirteen new sister wives and a new place to call home.
But the secrets weigh on me, on all of us.
And every secret leads back to the Prophet the, self-proclaimed, mouthpiece of God.
The man I’ve worshiped since childhood, the man we obey without question.
And he’s the man who will destroy

”I was a mother first, a wife second”

In this second book of the series we follow Aspen and her children as they are reassigned to a new husband and family. Aspen is sent to live with the Prophet’s brother, Paul Black and his large established family.

”Oh, so I’ll be wife number…” I widened my eyes, waiting for the answer. “Fourteen.”

Life with Paul’s family is so very different than the one her and children endured with Lehi Cuff. Aspen has only known Lehi in the bedroom and it seems

Mother Before Wife is book two in Melissa Brown’s Compound series. It focuses on Aspen. I knew going into this story that it would be so different than the first. Brinley was a young girl looking to get out of the life of Polygamy and be with the man she loved. Aspen is quite content with her faith and her lifestyle. After all the drama with Brinley and Leih, she requested to be moved. To take a different husband and be with a different family. So the Prophet made that happen. Aspen and

This story is simply amazing, compelling and captivating! Like the previous book in this series, this one has left me speechless. And that is not something that happens to me often!! Melissa is a talented author and I love her books but this series is my all time favorite. I don't know how to explain it..I have so many feelings! This book is intense and so emotional! Aspen had a different life with her previous husband Lehi. And now everything feels strange for her with her

This book. This freaking book kept me up all night! It’s not because I was up late reading it, no I finished it around 11:00 pm. The reason it kept me up was because once I finished it I couldn’t stop thinking about it. My heart was racing and I was way too revved up to go to sleep.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Mother Before Wife the title alone is contradictory to their beliefs. See Aspen is mormon and living in a polygamous compound. When the story begins she is being reassigned to Paul Bl

I'm still trying to collect my thoughts after reading an ARC of this book that I pretty much demanded from Melissa Brown LOL! Wife Number Seven (The Compound #1) was one of my absolute favorite books from 2014 and now MBW has been added to 2015. This book put me through the ringer of emotions! I was on the edge of my seat up until the very end, wondering who could be trusted and who would be Aspen's saving grace. Aspen is one of the strongest heroin's I have ever read and my heart broke for her ...more

If you haven't read Wife Number Seven - get on it. I've read most of Melissa's work, but after reading WNS I became hooked on Melissa's work. Her storytelling is taking us into a world that we don't know much about. That most just speculate on. I can't even comprehend the sheer amount of research that has been put into these stories.

WIFE BEFORE MOTHER is as simple as the title reads - Don't mess with a mother. Putting the storyline aside, Brown highlights what every mother goes through on a dail

This book was perfection. This series is amazing. The writing was fantastic, the pacing was on-the-edge-of-your-seat incredible and riddled with anxiety.
This whole polygamous world is captivating. The mind set is alarmingly embedded in people's minds that I fully understood Apsen's reluctance and fear in questioning any of it. I'm getting ahead of myself, though.

Timeline wise, this takes place right after the first book, Wife Number Seven, ended. Aspen has requested to be removed fr

I really like Melissa Brown's compound series.
At first, whole subject of religious polygamist commune sounds a bit strange, but Melissa's writing is so damn good, that even this taboo topic will keep you tensed on the edge of your seat right up until the very end.
Be aware that this one ends in cliffhanger.

I have to say this book had a lot to live up to. WN7 is one of my favorite books of all time.

I was drawn into this book from page one. I thought even though it was very different from Wn7, it still packs a punch.

I have to admit that sometimes it's hard for me to wrap my head around what they believe, but isn't that what a book is supposed to do? A great book takes us out of your box and makes you believe in what the author is painting. Melissa does that with talented skill

Holy heck, this was awesome! I could not put this down once I started, I was completely drawn into this nail biting story.

Aspen has been reassigned to Paul Black, after an awful first marriage to Lehi Cluff. She is wife number 14 for Paul but one he has been waiting on for years. Paul has had his eye on Aspen for a long time and is very attracted to her.

I really liked Paul, he couldn’t be more opposite to what Aspen had experienced in her first marriage. He is sweet, kind and patient. He is hand

I couldn't wait for this book and it was way more than I expected, except for the cliffhanger!
Book 3, come to meeee <3
Let's just start with this:

He returned to his desk chair. “Underground railroad. It’s a term that dates back to the Civil War when whites would help slaves escape to the north so they could be free.”

The "whites" are the ones who helped the slaves escape...? No. No, no, and a thousand times NO. What is this white saviour revisionist nonsense?

Myth: Most of the “workers” on the Underground Railroad were white abolitionists.

Truth: In fact, most people who helped escaping slaves were free blacks

Another spell-binding novel from Ms. Melissa Brown. Believe me, once you started this book, you just couldn't put it down. In fact, you'll easily be transported inside The Compound and be with the characters.

If you enjoyed Wife Number Seven, you'll definitely love this even more. Because not only was the story line better it was intriguing at the same time. What's more, it contains a powerful villain - the prophet. The one who threatens to harm her family a
5 "The Evil Prophet" Stars! Wow, I couldn't put this one down! Not really a romance, although the story does end in a cliffhanger, so perhaps the conclusion may. If you're a lover of unusual, suspenseful plots, then I highly recommend this book. Also be prepared for a challenging view of how a mother's role compares and battles with a wife's. The unimaginable circumstances that the heroine is forced to face in this story will undoubtedly tug at your heart strings.

I missed this world! What a plot-driven story that I loved even more than the first book. Loved Paul and hoping book 3 brings them closer together. Slightly disappointed that the next book is mostly Jonathon's POV, even though he's important, I didn't connect with him at all. Still excited to read it.

Absolutely amazing!! There are really no other words to describe this book. Mother Before Wife is one of those books that you cannot put down and when it is all over your mind is wandering all over the place, but in a really good way.

This is Aspen's story. When we first met her in WN7 I was certainly intrigued by her character. She was the wife who was completely devoted to her faith, her sister wives, her husband and especially the prophet. She never doubted the way

Mother Before Wife .
I am still in a hangover this morning.
After reading the last word I immediately text her and said, "Please tell me you have started the next book send me what you got."

I was so intrigued. Every Word.
We all knew we were going to get great work from Melissa when she started writing Aspen's book and boy did she ever deliver.

As much as I loved Wife Number Seven and that Bright red lipstick.... I love this one.

*Cliffhanger alert!* That cliffy surprised the heck out of me. And as much as it killed me, I'm glad the story isn't over yet. This book blew me away.

After the despicable way Lehi treated Brinley, Aspen asked for a reassignment. She and her three daughters are now to live with Paul, brother of the Prophet. Aspen is now his fourteenth wife. Paul is a decent man if not a bit weak and he is absolutely infatuated with Aspen. He has wanted her as a wife for a long time. Does Aspen feel the same? Will

Here I am back to the Compound ad after the shock of the first story in the series I can say that I've really enjoyed this book that sucked me in since the beginning and kept me on my toes until the last page.
I love the main character,Aspen, because she is a strong woman that doesn't stop fighting for the wellness of her children.

As the follow up to one of my favorite books of 2014, Wife Number Seven, I was eagerly awaiting this book to show up on my kindle. I thought I knew what I was getting but what I got was so much more. While this is not the clear cut romance that the first book was it is a extremely addicting story that will make you want to educate yourself of the FLDS church and all the controversy that surrounds it.

I can’t “just keep sweet” after that ending!

Polygamy has always been such a fascinating concept to me. When Melissa Brown wrote and published Wife Number Seven, I was blown away. Pleasantly surprised that someone had enough gusto to tackle such a sensitive subject but pleased with how much I actually connected with the characters that were from such a different world than I am accustomed to. It is no doubt her talent and beautiful writing style that sucks you in and refuses to release you unti

Aspen's story is very captivating. It sucks you and resists to let you go. You follow Aspen from her transition in the compound from her previous family to a new one. Paul is a better man than Lehi was and he also treats his wives and children a lot better.
Aspen sees something that she shouldn't and gets threatened. All the threats against her involve her children. She tries to get her husband to help her out but he refuses so she takes her concerns elsewhere. Aspen goes to the local police dep

So good! Soooooooooo good! The subject matter for Mother Before Wife, and the whole series, fascinates me and the way Melissa Brown spins a story out of it is brilliant.

Like with Wife Number Seven, I found myself on the edge of my seat, only this time I was alternating between wanting to bite my nails (reformed nail biter here!) and throw up! I was gripped!
