{ Add a ½ star for those interest in Law Enforcement or EMS Careers. } Well, that was interesting! I had a very slight idea who the trouble-marker was, but I was too involved in the story to try to really figure out who it was. While it was a little too focused on the romance element at times, it was still an interesting suspense book that covered a lot of different topics and elements, so I enjoyed it.
Having loved the Serena Jones Mystery series by this same author, I was excited to start this one. I mean, a paramedic and a deputy? Sounds like something I would love!
Unfortunately, it didn't completely cut it for me. The mystery was interesting, and kept me reading, but the final outcome was very unexpected, and didn't make as much sense as other possibilities. The romance felt rather sudden (although that was rather excusably, since the characters did have a background together) and focused way more on the physical aspect of things as opposed to the heart. (which always drives me nuts).
The book started out with a lot more emphasis on faith and Christianity than Orchard's other books have, which made me very excited, since that's something I've missed in the other ones. But that pretty much completely petered out. I kept waiting for the big emotional and spiritual climax and it . . . just never happened. Talk about a let down.
Overall, it wasn't a terrible book or anything, it just left me with a very "meh" feeling, which is almost more disappointing than leaving me with a bad feeling.
This was an interesting and fast paced book, which I enjoyed. I kept turning the pages because it held my interest. . .
I didn't like the focus on looks. i.e. "he's so cute, look at his muscles, oh my gosh he touched me, swoon" Just. . . STOP
I also thought that the story ran around in circles quite a bit. Something happened and the characters would discuss all of the evidence and who it might be. . .then something else would happen and they would discuss all of that evidence. . . again. It happened like six times. Seriously? Do we need to go over this information again? I, as a reader, found myself skipping pages.
Other than that, I did enjoy the fast action, quickly moving pace and the fast read. But there wasn't anything remarkable about it and I don't feel the need to read it again.
*content* Drug users, addicts, and dealers are shown and discussed with frequency. Blood, several attacks/kidnappings etc. Nothing gory or over the top.

SAVED BY THE SHERIFF'S DEPUTY
Paramedic Sherri Steele refuses to believe someone's out to get her—until she's held at knifepoint in her own ambulance. It'll take her high school crush to convince her she needs protection—and deputy sheriff Cole Donovan is as persuasive as he is handsome. But when his brother rises to the top of the suspects list, Cole's torn between family duty and the woman he's never forgotten. EMERCENCY REUNION is the first book I read by this author. I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews about her books and was anxious to read one.
Sherri is a paramedic, quick on her feet, but rejected by her peers. She feels it’s because she “let her partner die.” She works an inner city route, complete with prank calls, drug addicts intent on robbing the ambulance, and crazies with multiple personalities. Cole is a new deputy, his brother a known druggie, and definitely over-protective toward Sherri, to the point of stalking her once his brother is caught attempting to rob the ambulance. He believes Sherri is being targeted, despite her argument that stuff happens to all the paramedics/EMTs.
I didn’t figure out who-dun-it as quickly in this book as I normally do. The story was very well-told and kept to the Love Inspired formula very well with the heroine constantly in danger (though she was often so into her job she didn’t think about it until it happened.)
I enjoyed reading about the life of an inner-city paramedic and the stuff they might encounter, including the trauma of losing someone they care about, and the need to talk about their feelings afterwards.

4 stars. Available in ebook and paperback. 224 pages.
I obtained this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This book was absolutely impossible to put down once I started it. Not only that, it had more twists and turns than a giant rollercoaster. A definite must read.
Emergency Reunion is by Sandra Orchard. It is a romantic suspense. Second chances and drug intervention are stressed in this novel. Sherri Steele was a paramedic and a good one. However, since the death of her partner, Luke Gibson, her coworkers have been distant and sometimes cruel. She blames them for the incidents which are happening at a greater frequency. Being sent to false addresses and being sideswiped by another vehicle can be tossed off as just incidents. But when she is held at knife point by a druggie who claims he was sent to this specific ambulance, things get more personal. Still, she refrains from telling the police her suspicions. Cole Donovan has returned to town and taken a job as deputy sheriff. He has been gone for seventeen years and has not had contact with his Dad or his brother Eddie for all that time. After the divorce, he had gone with his Mother while Eddie stayed with Dad. Cole was very angry at his Dad for having affairs in the first place. Now, he must face them both to try to straighten Eddie out before drugs get him in major trouble. He must also face Sherri Steele, their next door neighbor when they were growing up. He and Sherri were almost inseparable. But when he left, he had wanted more. Were the feelings he had still there? Were there on Sherri’s part? Before he could see to this, he had to find out who was trying to hurt Sherri and who was trying to get Eddie into more and more trouble
This was a nice clean Christian romance. Sherri is a paramedic, struggling with symptoms of PTSD after her partner is shot and dies on a routine call. Cole is a deputy who's returned to his hometown to try and reconnect with his younger brother, an addict who is always getting into trouble. When strange things start happening to Sherri, it appears someone is targeting her with the intent to harm her. At first, suspicion falls on Cole's brother, then on Cole's partner. After all, Cole did beat out the guy's nephew for the job and he was awfully quick to point a finger at Cole's brother. While Cole has strong feelings for Sherri, he's afraid her family won't approve when his is so messed up. Even so, he vows to protect her no matter what. There was very little romance included in the story but a lot of suspense. The author did a nice job of keeping her readers on their toes by creating plenty of suspects to choose from when it came to the person who was after Sherri. Both Cole and Sherri had issues to deal with and their faith played a big part in seeing them through. This was a quick, enjoyable read, a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
Who's stalking the paramedic? Can the deputy sheriff figure it out in time? One thing I liked about Emergency Reunion is how much I liked getting to know the characters. The way Sandra Orchard wrote this book I felt like I was friends with the main characters and I could understand how they felt. Steve came back into Sherri's life and you could knew that they had one of those friendships that transcends time. It was like they were never apart. The mystery in some suspense novels is easy for the reader to solve but the great storyline makes up for the simplicity. Some suspense novels have so many suspects that you lose the story. I'm happy to say Emergency Reunion had the perfect balance - a great storyline with just enough suspects that the mystery wasn't easy to solve yet it made sense. Great story of the importance of family and friendship and faith. I really enjoyed this book!
Intensely action-driven, Emergency Reunion is a nail-biter of a read. Orchard's imagination knows no bounds when it comes to tormenting her hapless heroine. Sherri barely has time to recover from one attack before the next comes out of nowhere. And with nary a gun fired since the villain is cunningly diabolical and downright cruel. Another product of the author's vivid imagination. There's plenty of suspects to confuse the intrepid armchair sleuth and enough plot twists to keep a reader slightly off balance. And the romance? Delectable. Evident from the very first scene since both Sherri and Cole have harbored feelings for one another for years. I was entranced from beginning to end.
Circumstances bring former neighbors Sherri and Cole back together after a long separation. Unfortunately, the same set of circumstances seem as though they will break them apart forever. As the duo get to know each other again, they learn their prior attraction is still strong, but both try to fight it for their own reasons. In the interest of not giving away any spoilers, I won't say more.
This story was enjoyable and quick and kept me guessing until almost the very end. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys an inspirational and suspenseful read.
I had read another "Love Inspired Suspense" by another author prior to reading this book. Read the book in one day, this book took me three days. It was ok, it kept me guessing about who the person was that was trying to hurt Sherri. Cole has returned home to try and help his brother Eddie who is using drugs. Sherri is upset with Cole for leaving her, she thought they had something special. Cole is determined to protect Sherri from who ever is trying to hurt her and to win her love again.
Another nail biter from Sandra Orchard! Sheri is an EMT - something she has always wanted to do with her life. Somehow her helping others has become a regular attack on her life. Are these incidents just random or does she have a stalker who is out to cause injury and perhaps death? Don't miss this well written story that had me wondering right up to the end – who really IS behind these attacks and are they aimed at Sheri or perhaps she is just in the wrong place……?
"Orchard’s latest is action-packed. She does not pull any punches when discussing some of the horrific scenes that first responders encounter daily. The multidimensional characters and plot are a wonderful example of how God can bring good from tragedy and a reminder that it is OK to ask for help" (RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 stars TOP PICK!).
Maybe 3 1/2. Slightly better than most, but back to "the formula" - hunky male rescues perky female. One part was unbelievable. A police officer's brother needs CPR, and the police officer seems to have no idea how to do it.
Emergency Reunion is an amazing book of suspense. The author ability to keep you interested throughout the book shows talent. I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a book that keeps you guessing who done it from the start to the finish.
