Why Science is Wrong... About Almost Everything

Rate this book
Alex Tsakiris has interviewed many bestselling authors and dozens of world-class academics on his popular science podcast Skeptiko.com. In this book he shares with us what he's learned through his 200 plus interviews with some of the world’s leading consciousness researchers and thinkers. In doing so, he reveals what the best research is saying about 'big picture' science questions and the limits of science in general. What's he's learned, in short, is that science-as-we-know-it is an emperor-with-no-clothes-on proposition. It mesmerizes us with flashy trinkets, while failing at its core mission of leading us toward self-discovery. Science is wrong about almost everything because science depends on our consciousness being an illusion—and it’s not!

fascinating read

An informative, thought-provoking little book that raises some very important questions about the validity of the materialist philosophy embedded in Established Science. Definitely worth reading.

This 170-page yellow book, by Alex Tsakiris host of the Skeptiko podcast, is a striking nail in the coffin of scientific materialism. I was raised an evangelical Christian, in young adulthood I became a (quiet) agnostic, then a materialist atheist because of philosophical arguments I absorbed, but now I'm a Christian again - a decision solidified by the evidence detailed in this book.

Ultimately the book gets 4-stars from me because its title is going to make its message about a more magical and mysterious world unapproachable by many - people are going to judge the book by its cover and say "looks like a crazy flat-earther's manifesto. I'll PASS!" This is why I've paraphrased its title for this review, Why Scientific Materialism is WRONG... About Almost Everything

Tsakiris has a popular you tube show called Skeptico were he interviews top scientist on such topics as consciousness and spirituality. The book is formatted in an interview form between Tsakiris and his guest. Tsakiris covers a wide range of topics from why science is wrong about consciousness, near death experiences, psychics, healing and medicine and materialism. In Darwin's The Origins of Species, Darwin apparently ripped from a naturalist named Wallance and took credit for his work. Although the book is interesting the interview format does not lend itself to a deeper understanding of the topics. Finally Tsakiris is not opposed to science only the ideology of scientism which closes off any explanation of the none material. This is a very interesting book, four stars for a solid thesis.

I see the fallibilities of the physical scientific method when trying describe non physical phenomena,
Science clearly needs a paradigm shift and Alex’s way of thinking to go against the current scientific models and propose a paradigm shift is a fresh way of thinking, science at present is lacking in its understanding of non physical phenomena because basically it’s only using the current scientific method of physicalism, which clearly fails.

Awesome

Must read book. Great expose of the fallacies of modern day science. Finally a book that follows where the data actually leads

Just OK. The author relied too heavily on interviews from previous podcasts. While listening to interviews can be interesting, reading interviews can be quite tedious. Reading people talk is different than listening to them talk because you don't hear the inflection. Plus, the way people talk does not make for a good read.

Interesting. However the author relied much too heavily on previous podcast interviews which diminished the quality of the read.

Very Interesting.

I'm not an atheist but I appreciate Tsakiris's honesty. I hope his search for truth ends well. I also found many of his interviews amusing. Blame my dark humour.
