Cari Meister lives on a small farm in Minnesota with her husband, four sons, three horses, one dog and one cat. Cari enjoys running, snowshoeing, horseback riding, and yoga. She loves to visit libraries and schools!

Here Beverly Cleary, beloved author of "Beezus and Ramona" and "Henry Huggins."

Born an Oregonian in McMinnville and after some childhood years on a farm near Yamhill, the family moved to Portland. Always her life revolved around books and reading.

After college days at Berkeley and U. of Washington, Beverly became a librarian and married Clarence Cleary. Takig up writing, her first book, Henry Huggins, was published in 1950.

I still remember one of Cleary's books from my youth--"Beezus and Ramona" was published in 1955, when I was six--and I loved that book!

Winner of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal and the Newberry Medal, Cleary was honored in 1995 when Portland opened the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden for Children, a park with sculptures of Cleary's characters. It was really fun to visit that park a few years ago and take photos of the fun statues.

I have been through Yamhill many times, and I think I will now read Cleary's memoirs, "A Girl from Yamhill."

I picked this biography because I thought it would be interesting for children to read about one of their favorite authors. This biography would be easy enough for an elementary student to read and even do research on. It is informative but uses language that children will be able to read and understand. Cari Meister, the author of this book, has written a few biographies on children's authors. They would be a great addition to a nonfiction section of a classroom library.

I love all of Beverly Clearys work and this is a great that's talks about her story. It is also another great book for the children to do a report on.
