The Big Book of Domination

Rate this book
Not every woman likes to submit. An increasing number like to be on top. And their partners love it! D. L. King, editor of 2013's award-winning Under Her Thumb, curates a scintillating collection with The Big Book of Domination. Filled with surprises and unexpected twists (yes, that kind, too!), this book proves that when lust and desire take control, all bets are off.

Dominants and submissives are not so very different — they both crave that frisson of power. The Big Book of Domination brings you erotic stories to get your heart pumping, like the story of a reporter who likes to experience everything first hand. It’s been said that clothes make the man — can putting on the right clothes transform an ordinary man into a charismatic dom? When Glenn finds the leathers in his friend’s closet, his trip to the bars nets him the perfect boy . . .

Dominance and submission is a dance D. L. King knows well, and The Big Book of Domination rocks your world with stories of sensuous games with male dominants, training and discipline by female dominants, and all manner of sensuous games and pairings.

I'm a New Yorker. I write smut. Some people call it erotica and some people call it porn. I call it a good time. Oh, yeah, I don't just write smut; I edit it too. I also publish and edit an erotica book review site called Erotica Revealed . There's more to see on my blog and on my website.

In addition to the ones shown here, you can find my short stories in a number of anthologies such as The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica (8, 9, and 10), Best Women's Erotica (09) and Best Lesbian Erotica (08, 10 and 11). For a more complete list, check out my blog or my website.

The Big Book of Domination is a book that has something for everyone, from Dominants to submissives and everyone in between. If you are a lover of BDSM or sex, then this is an anthology that you will definitely want for your collection.

The short erotic stories contained in this master collection (no pun intended) are widely diverse, including all pairings of straight/LGBT couples, femdom, and stories from both the Dom and sub point of view. Different though they may be, they all focus on a central theme in one form or another: Domination. Because each story is distinct in its voice and story, you can read as many or as few stories from this book in one sitting as you'd like.

I'm not going to break down all twenty-something stories down in full detail, but I will highlight my top three favorite stories included in this book, in no particular order. The first story that stood out to me was "Faking It" by Tilly Hunter, which involves a pair of female play partners and a search for a male submissive to join in on the fun. It's well written and manages to pack a lot of actual story (don't worry- there's sex too) into not that many pages. It could easily have been an excerpt from a longer erotic work, and I really enjoyed the detailed writing. The second story on my list is "Prison Bitch" by David Wraith. This story narrates a male submissive who asks for a very special kind of birthday present and gets even more than he bargained for. This story is LGBT inclusive as well and I'll just be blunt about it: the scene was hot. That's all the reason I need to remember this story in the future. The final story on my top spots is "A Hole" by Lillian Douglas, which involves sensory deprivation, a fantasy fulfilled, and more hands than one can keep track of. This story is a personal fantasy of mine, so it hit the spot all the sweeter for me. It'll definitely be revisited in the future.

The stories that I didn't enjoy so much weren't badly written, they just personally weren't my kink or something that I enjoy. Everyone has the things that make them tick the loudest, and no doubt other readers of this will appreciate different stories for different reasons.

This is a solid collection that I'm proud to display on my kink shelf. This is obviously recommended for adults over legal age, and if BDSM isn't your thing this is NOT the book for you. But fans of it, as well as erotica in general, will find something to appreciate in this book.

Thanks so much to Cleis Press for my Copy in exchange for my honest review! This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.

"In actuality, to dominate requires activity. Ongoing focus, work, attention to detail, imagination. It also requires a high level of empathy, flexibility, a complete understanding of boundaries and limits and at the same time the ability to become distant, to maintain a certain rigidity, a willingness to take risks and the guts to accept responsibility when the risk doesn’t pay off. It’s not easy or simple, and it sure as hell isn’t something practiced by acting passive while someone else does all the relationship heave lifting."

*Laura Antiniou

I enjoyed most of the stories in this collection, however, because there were a few I couldn't get into and actually skimmed (not a huge fan of femdom and m/m) I had to lower my rating. I'm giving this 3.5 stars as a full anthology.

Like many of the erotica anthologies I've read, this one offers something for EVERYONE! Like myself, you'll probably find yourself skipping over some of the ones that don't deliver your style of "kink" but it's still very much worth the read just for those handful throughout that suit your erotica reading styles.

Highly recommended to erotica-BDSM readers.

Big book of sexy fun stories (an audio review)

I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Antoniou a few years ago and was impressed with her knowledge and understanding of BDSM. The ‘D’ in the acronym is sometimes ‘Discipline’ and sometimes ‘Domination’. Regardless, domination is a big part of the community. From the outside, the stereotype is of an attractive older man as the dominant and a young ingenue as the submissive. For those who engage in elements of BDSM, they know this is only a small fraction of what actually goes on.

I love this book because there are not only many stories, but also many variations. Women are just as likely to have a dominance streak in them as the men are to be submissive. There are also gay stories where same sex pairing engage is sexy times. There might even be a menage or two to make things interesting.

If you’re interested in BDSM, there are many tales for you to enjoy. Oh, and most of the people involved are just ordinary people – like your neighbors and even your friends. Like in real life.

Barclay Malmsbury and Tracie McCall were great as narrators, handling the various stories with just the right touch. Overall, I really enjoyed the big book of short stories and can’t wait to check out another one.

If you are looking for a sweet love story to go along with your kinky sex story, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a book with sex, pain, power plays and kink, look no farther. “The Big Book of Domination” is a compilation of short stories where domination is the name of the game and you will submit or take the punishment. With so many authors, so many stories, you can’t help but keep turning the page to see what happens next.

This was more Shades of the Rainbow than Shades of Grey, and I'm not complaining.

Normally with books like this, I'm apprehensive-- complicated internal workings that I am okay with domination, but don't like misogyny. So at first, I was worried, but I read about it and thought this would be different, and I wasn't disappointed when I got the chance to read through it. It isn't a single spectrum of the experience of people into BDSM-- it isn't always through the eyes of the dominant, or the dominated. I like that it switches between, as well as the fact that it isn't only straight couplings, which aren't a preference of mine. It was nice to see that a collection of stories such as this can be open to such a wide sampling of people-- to show that this sort of play isn't just for rich white men who own their own planes or something, but that polyamorous people, or the gay and lesbian community, also partake. There's a whole subculture dedicated to this sort of life, and though some of the stories didn't appeal to me, some of them were-- wow. They were special.

I don't even need to tell you that the stories were extraordinarily hot, either. Definitely worth reading, if you're into that sort of thing-- or even curious about it.

I got this book for free from Good Reads FirstReads.

WOW... what a great read! The authors are put together in a perfect arrangement of styles and subjects.
David Wraith's story, only his second published work, sticks out as does D.L. King's. Whatever you enjoy all of the stories are worth reading.
Anthologies have a good and bad side. Some of the stories make you want more. D.L. Kings story 'The Day I Came In Public' has me wanting more, like a whole book! :-)
