Fake dating Santa’s grumpy head elf might land me on the naughty list…
When the grumpiest elf to ever elf asks me for a favor, I can’t say no. Okay, I can, but I don’t. To get his family off his back, I’ll pretend to be his boyfriend through the holidays, acting all loved up, then we’ll have a quiet breakup. Simple. What could go wrong? Everything, that’s what. Thanks to my meddling brother, there’s no room at the inn, only one bed, and kisses under the mistletoe hot enough to melt all the snow in Santa’s Village.
And now I’m looking at Balfour in a whole new light. We’d gone from enemies to friends, but now I might want more. When we are forced to spend my surprise heat together, I see a side of him I never knew existed. One that makes me want our fake relationship to be real.
Will Santa make my Christmas wish come true?
His Mistletoe Omega is set in the same world as His Gingerbread Omega, and while it can be read as a standalone, the author strongly suggests reading Gingerbread first, as that world and characters in that book will be featured in this book. This sweet M/M holiday romcom is an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance that includes fake dating, forced proximity, mistletoe kisses, only one bed, and a surprise heat. There will be meddling families, lots of text messaging, a gingerbread contest, and a touch of Christmas magic.
Raiven Matthews lives in the Mid-West, with her very spoiled cat, Declan. An avid reader from a young age, she discovered MM romance while reading fan fiction, and never looked back. Her days are fueled by lots of coffee and cuss words, and often plots her books on her commute to her RL job. She has always believed in happily-ever-after, but she was always the girl with follow-up questions. What happened when Cinderella put on that shoe and rode off to the castle? What came after Beast turned into a handsome prince? While she loves when her characters fall in love, she also believes in sprinkling in a big dose of reality, and real-life situations, (even if she is writing omegaverse mpreg) to get there.
It was so much fun being back in Santa's Village. Since it's been a year since our last visit, I had forgotten how magical the setting of this series was. All the cute little cottages. The friendly ( and few not so friendly), elves. All the lights. I can just picture it in my mind. Like Kendrick says, I couldn't see how that whimsical view would ever get old.
I was so excited when I heard grumpy Bal, The Santa's elf bestie, was going to be the MC of this book! Even more fun his man turns out to be Keegan's older brother! I mean, it doesn't get more perfect than that for two sibling humans who, due to their circumstances, have to live on opposite planes of existence. Bal and Kendrick being an item gives hope to the future.
One of my favorite things about this book were the text message exchanges at the beginning of each chapter. It laid the groundwork for us to see how Bal and Kendrick got to know one another, forming a friendship I think surprised them both. They also made me laugh because Bal is just such a grump and Kendrick does love needling the elf. As time goes by and the two get closer, Kendrick begins to come to the realization that he is starting to love other things about Bal as well.
Bal was also coming to some realizations about his own feelings in regard to Kendrick. So here we have two people who are falling in love with one another, yet instead of communicating, both decide that keeping their lips zipped on the subject is the best way to go. I can tell you that I wanted to smack them both upside the heads at this point. And I think Keegan and The Santa agreed with me because it's thanks to them that both these buttheads finally talk it out like they should have in the beginning. So even though they may have had a little bump in the road, we still get the magical Christmas Village HEA!
Ever since I discovered Raiven when I read one of her books, I am just so addicted to her writing. This has to be one of my favorites by her and that says a lot because her writing is over the top an in such an amazing way.
Balfour is the grumpiest elf and Kendrick couldn’t stand him since he was the elf that made his brother, Keegan, cry. The way that the book started had me in a fit of giggles because it was just the best way to start their amazing relationship.
The way that Kendrick and Balfour gravitate towards one another was everything that I didn’t know I needed in my life. And oh man, those sweet messages of their texting was so darn cute. I was certainly anticipating those messages because yeah, they were the highlight of this book.
What I really loved was how Bal was all about sticking to a certain schedule but would always find a way to message Kendrick and not realizing. The moment he was in human world to find his omega in regular clothes - that was so sweet. And their talk about how they really felt was something that was so perfect because in all honesty, they were perfect for one another.
One of my favorite parts was when Kendrick helped Bal with the gingerbread house. That whole scene was epic for me. I also loved how Nik and Keegan chatter along with Blitzen being nosy haha.
And Keegan is a little sneaky little thing but if it wasn’t for Keegan, they wouldn’t have gotten as close as they did.
There is so much comedy in this book that if you’re looking for a holiday book with all the romcom vibes with the perfect emotion, this book is certainly for you. It is recommended to read Keegan and Nik’s story and you bet that’s my next book I’m going to be read.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
His Mistletoe Omega by Raiven Matthews is part of her Sweet Alps Mates series. I suggest that you read His Gingerbread Omega before this one as it contains characters that occur in this book as well as introducing you to Santa’s Village and all that happens there. This is the story of a very grumpy elf and how he falls in love with the brother of Santa’s omega. Balfour Eroth is Santa’s head elf in charge of the Naughty and Nice List as well as the electronics department in the workshop. His life is all about lists, spreadsheets, and keeping a strict schedule and he gets very grumpy whenever anything goes wrong. He is also The Santa’s best friend and unfortunately didn’t like his omega mate, Keegan, when he first met him. But he got over it when Keegan had babies and he became their uncle. He also took a disliking to Keegan’s brother, Kendrick Mallory, which started a flurry of snarky text messages where they tried to one up on each other with what they were saying and doing. Kendrick is a first grade teacher and in order to visit his brother at Santa’s Village he is usually summoned by Balfour, disagrees about what time he is going to be picked up, and then the elf hugs him and he smells like peppermint mocha, and they arrive so he can have a visit. All of these things have happened over the span of several years and during that time they both have found they enjoy their teasing texts and have become friends. Then Balfour’s mother tells him that he is to come for dessert after Thanksgiving dinner with Nik (The Santa) and his family and that they have a girl they want him to meet. This is an absolute no for him so he makes up a boyfriend so they can’t set him up. Of course, he is invited too and the only person he can think of to be his fake boyfriend is Kendrick. He is also being set up by his friends and begs Bal to call him to get him out of a particularly bad date. So they get together and have to try to make it seem real in front of their families. When mistletoe magically appears at Nik’s and Keegan’s they are forced to kiss and it was amazing. Both are feeling the attraction which only grows as they visit Bal’s family and when Kendrick returns home, they think about each other a lot as they continue texting. When Kendrick returns for Christmas, he finds out his reservation at the inn was canceled so he stays with Bal but only platonically. They enter the gingerbread contest together and have a great time and when Kendrick’s heat hits, Bal is there for him helping with whatever he needs and having some very hot love scenes. They missed Christmas so Nik and Keegan have one especially for them and they both realize they want to be boyfriends for real, but they don’t say anything so there are misunderstandings on both sides. Kendrick leaves for Sweet Alps broken hearted and Bal doesn’t respond to his texts which leads to more problems, especially when a surprise is on the way. Luckily Nik comes to the rescue so they can tell each other their real feelings and be together. I really enjoyed this cute Christmas story. Balfour and Kendrick love to tease each other and what starts out as animosity eventually turns into love. Kendrick is smart and snarky and loves to tease Bal. Bal is all about his schedule but he’s also strong, fierce, tender, and caring. They were both attracted to each other from the start but didn’t act on it and this became a problem when they didn’t communicate their feelings to each other. Luckily Nik and Keegan and their parents were able to help them see they belonged together and could be happy. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like Christmas stories about an elf who has to look to his snarky friend for a fake dating situation and how it grows until they realize they want to be together for real and find a way to do just that.
Kendrick agrees to fake‑date Balfour, Santa’s grumpiest head elf, to help him survive the holidays without his family nagging him. The plan is simple: pretend to be in love, get through Christmas, then stage a quiet breakup. But thanks to Kendrick’s meddling brother, they end up sharing a room — and a bed — in Santa’s Village, where mistletoe kisses start feeling a little too real. What began as enemies‑to‑friends quickly shifts into something deeper as Kendrick sees a softer, unexpected side of Balfour during his surprise heat. Their forced closeness sparks genuine feelings, leaving Kendrick wondering if their fake romance could become the real thing. Now he just has one Christmas wish: for Santa to make Balfour his for good.
This was a sweet Christmas story set in Sweet Alps and Santa's Village. I loved that Bal was caring and protective of Kendrick Kendrick and not grumpy at all when he realised that pretending to be in love had become indistinguishable from actually falling in love. I also loved that the story showed that intimacy isn’t just physical — it’s about being seen at your most unguarded and still being wanted. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content set in the omegaverse with MPREG.
Holiday Cheer Meter: 2/5 (Where 1 is as Christmassy as 'Die Hard' and 5 is more like 'Elf')
1st person, past tense, dual PoV Kendrick Mallory, human (27/28), elementary school teacher (1st grade) Balfour Eroth, elf, peppermint mocha scent (400-something), The Santa's head elf / keeper of The Naughty List
This was a cute follow-up to His Gingerbread Omega, though you could technically read it as a standalone, I think it would be much more enjoyable if read as duet. Kendrick is Keegan's brother, while Balfour is Nik's best friend from the first book and there is considerable character crossover.
I loved the inclusion of the text messages that span the five and a half years that Kendrick and Balfour have known each other. You can really feel their relationship building through them. Their banter was top notch - I'm such a sucker for grumpy x sassy - and the chemistry was plenty believable. Balfour's Christmas gift to Kendrick alone earned a whole star - that was the sweetest, swooniest present ever!!!!
I was bummed that there wasn't more festive holiday cheer, especially when it was revealed that .
My poor heart broke for poor Kendrick when .
So naturally he returns home after Christmas and .
Of course they get their HEA, but I would have enjoyed it more if Kendrick had found his own place in Santa's Village and not just as the mate of Balfour.
His Mistletoe Omega is set in the Sweet Alps Mates universe. This is what the author says about reading this book."His Mistletoe Omega is set in the same world as His Gingerbread Omega, and while it can be read as a standalone, the author strongly suggests reading Gingerbread first, as that world and characters in that book will be featured in this book." This is the story of Kendrick and Balfour. This was just as sweet and wonderful as I had hoped. Watching these two go from enemies to being together was fun. I fell in love with Kendrick from the beginning, Balfour took longer to love but I finally got what made him like he was. This was just another sweet wonderful Christmas story like I would expect from Raiven Matthews. I would definitely recommend this book. received a free review copy
Here I am— once again— baffled by how Raiven Matthews made me love a holiday story. As I stated in my review from “His Gingerbread Omega” (Keegan and Nik’s story), I am not the target audience for any holiday story, as I generally hate them. And yet, here I am again, falling in love with the characters and story line in “His Mistletoe Omega.” I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Balfour and Kendrick are so much fun. I laughed through much of this story and if you like the grumpy/sunshine trope, this is absolutely a book you will want to read. It was also wonderful seeing more of the previous characters. I will admit, begrudgingly, that this book was exactly what I needed to get me into the Christmas spirit this year. So, thank you Raiven, for proving me wrong (again) and showing me that good holiday books do exist!
Kendrick is the older brother of Keegan and we join him as he goes to support his brother in labour. To get to the Santa village, Kendrick has to rely on Balfour Nik's best friend to transport him and that is the start of a "beautiful friendship" This was a perfect read to get you in the mood for the Christmas Season. I loved the interaction between Balfour and Kendrick, switching from past to present, with the past told in texts made it easy to follow their story. I love the fake dating trope as you always know how it is going to end. With Balfour's dry humour and Kendrick's sassiness I laughed so much. But there was sweetness, misunderstandings and heat the perfect package. Disclaimer: I have not read His Gingerbread Omega and I had no problem following this story, although I am going to read Keegan's story to see where it all began
I've been so excited for Raiven to release another Christmas book because I loved her last Christmas book, His Gingerbread Omega. And this one was just as fantastic!
I feel as though sometimes the grumpy/sunshine trope can either be successful or a flop, and Raiven did a great job with making it successful here. Bal is such a grumpy elf and Kendrick is a ray of chaotic sunshine, I loved seeing these two banter with each other. Their texts were hilarious, as was their conversations. They started out as enemies but became so much more!
While this can be read as a standalone, I'd recommended also reading His Gingerbread Omega as it'll help fill you in on some of the events that are mentioned in this book.
Eventhough it's been a bit since reading His Gingerbread Omega, so things were coming back to me when reading His Mistletoe Omega...especially grumpy butt Balfour...LOL. OMG this was such a fun read. I absolutely love Kendrick and Balfour relationship journey...the past texts they had over the years put it all in perspective. Their love for their family and eventually each other. They made it unnecessarily angsty tho which almost had me screaming in frustration but all in all their journey was fun, sweet and oh so HOT. I highly recommend if you read the first book...it's not really necessary but you enjoy this one more if you did.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kendrick and Balfour I'm such a fun enemies to lovers story. I even find it funny that it's enemies to fake dating to true dating romance. I love the sweet Alps mates series. And this is another perfect addition to it. Once you start this book you cannot put it down so make sure you have nothing to do during the day. The only sad thing is that when they move to the North Pole that their former friends forget about them. I know that's part of the magical part of the books. But that's just sad to me. But trust me it does not take away from the story. It's just my point of view and I wish there was a way that they could remember them. See where the North Pole part of the series ends up taking us.
If some if the words in the title don't make sense to you, this might not be for you. It's a quick read, the second in a series, and I suggest reading them in order. Balfor and Kendrick are a grumpy sunshine couple but not strictly fitting the trope. They are also both eldest sons, though Ballot has significantly more siblings. The fake dating and one bed tropes also are here, giving this a familiar pattern despite the very unique Santa Village world the author debuted initially. Males can have babies here, so anyone with issues with that should avoid. I love this couple's texts and story. Will likely re-read at a future Christmas!
I absolutely adored the push and pull of these two characters. They were so dang opposite yet the played off each other brillantly that you knew they would eventually make it work. The text messages show us their growth, even while being on different planes, that they can grow and build a healthy and lasting relationship. Balfour being the grump that he is slowly relaxes into the banter and energy of Kendrick. Kendrick getting off on the wrong foot with Balfour for understandable reasons, sorry Bal you were a butthead, but I love you anyway, when sees the real Bal cannot help being drawn in and what to know the real Bal. A great addition to this year's holiday lines up, was happy to see Keegan and Nik have such strong and lasting relationship and growing into their own as a couple. Raiven as per usual pulls us fully into this world where you as the reader have no issues imagining and feeling yourself in the world.
This was a really cute story between a very grumpy elf who loves his schedules and a human omega who likes to push his buttons. Keegan and Bel meet as a result of Keegan's brother falling for The Santa and Bel happens to be Santa's best friend/head elf. This story is told with some cute text messages at the end of each chapter highlighting their budding friendship over time. This was a fun holiday story and the only thing holding me back is that I wish we got more history of Bel and his family. It's definitely strained, but I felt like I wanted just a bit more information to understand why he preferred Nik's family over his own.
Fluffy holiday goodness with His Mistletoe Omega. It was a delightful balance of holiday romance and revisiting a few old characters from the Sweet Alps Mates Series. Santa's Village is filled with all the magic it was last year except we are seeing everything through Kendrick's eyes this time.
I loved that the romance was between Kendrick and Balfour, enemies to friends to lovers, it was a joy to read. It was a quick read, had all the cozy holiday feels I was looking for, and a happily-ever-after. Which honestly at this time of year, the story just checked all the escapism read boxes for me.
After Keegan married Santa, his brother Kendrick knew about elves but was surprised when the grumpy elf Balfour appeared unannounced to say Keegan was having his baby. So it was off to the North Pole for the omega Kendrick. I loved Kendrick and Balfour's relationship. It's filled with snarky comments, moving meeting times and jibes masking growing feelings. Balfour 's starchy grumpiness is hilarious. Besides Balfour smells good! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, my favorite of Raiven's so far! I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.
Love, love, love this book! Raiven Matthews has done it again! This book is witty, romantic, steamy, written so beautifully and filled with such well rounded characters! This is a wonderful holiday book! This one is a keeper! I laughed out loud so many times. You will love it! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
I loved Kendrick and Balfour. They're complete opposites but absolutely perfect for each other. The texting between them was really great at showing their growth and allowed the reader to see them slowly falling in love as fake dating turns into something much more realistic.
Kendrick and Balfour are so perfect for each other and I love seeing enemies to friends to lovers grow so organically. I love how Raiven use Texts to show us the character growth and how their relationship grew together.
I am so happy Balfour got his HEA and Kendrick and his humor is perfect for him. I also love the grumpy sunshine aspect as well.
His Mistletoe Omega is part of the Sweet Alps Mates series and I recommend reading His Gingerbread Omega first. This is a fake dating, enemies to lovers, forced proximity read about Bel and Keegan. I absolutely loved this fun holiday story and all the characters.
I enjoyed seeing the MCs connect and how the texts showed how their relationship evolved over time. I do wish the story was longer as I wasn't ready for it to end when I got to the last page.
Balfour is a bit on the aloof side and hides his feelings. Kendrick is a bit in the naughty side and likes to stir the pot. When Kendrick needs a bit of help, Bal is his solution and things slowly change for them. When a heat unexpectedly hits, the attraction between them can no longer be denied.
A sweet, holiday read that features familiar characters, lots of holiday cheer and a HEA. I absolutely enjoyed going back to this world that the author has created.
Kendrick is spending Christmas with his brother Keegan at Santa's Village. He likes his life in the human world but he's just a little jealous of the life Keegan has. He's taken to defending Keegan from the elf who seems to have a problem with him. Next thing you know they are in a constant friendly banter. When Kendrick gets asked for a favor, he's game to help out.
Balfour is the top elf to Santa. He takes his job very seriously. He's gained a reputation for being grumpy and maybe he is. Between his meddling parents and friends he's desperate to get them off his case, so he devises a plan with the help of Kendrick.
These two start off as adversaries and quickly become friends. Neither admit it to the other but it's obvious in their frequent texts. Pretending to be boyfriends only brings them closer. Will they be able to walk away with their hearts intact?
This is a really good, sweet romance. The texting between Kendrick and Balfour had me LOL so much. I loved Kendrick from page one and Balfour quickly grew on me. They're both lonely and fill a need with each other. I liked being back in Santa's Village and seeing the characters from book one. The only negative for me was Balfour's mother. She was overbearing and opinionated and didn't mind butting in when she wasn't invited. Definitely worth the read. 😍
