A Fatal Invitation by S.F. Baumgartner is a compelling new installment in the Kylie Cassidy series.

Kylie has transitioned fully from her work at Pine Grove and is now a detective with the Orlando Police Department (OPD), partnered with the experienced Detective Rick Spaulding. Their first case involves a body discovered near the lake—what initially appears to be a simple homicide quickly escalates when a series of other female victims surfaces. The discovery points toward a predatory serial killer. Adding a horrifying and unusual layer to the investigation, all victims exhibit signs of recent, meticulous surgery, strongly suggesting a professional illegal organ harvesting ring is operating in the city.

Who is behind these horrid actions? Kylie and Rick are uncertain, but they decide to work jointly with the specialized Orlando Prime Task Force. This collaboration is their best hope for tracking the perpetrators before the killer claims another life.

The professional stakes are high: Kylie is new to the OPD and must prove her investigative worth to secure her permanent position. While Spaulding clearly respects her, the partnership is complicated by Kylie's own unaddressed personal secrets. For them to successfully solve this case, their professional relationship must evolve into one of complete and urgent trust.

I truly enjoyed this new mystery, crime, and thriller installment by S.F. Baumgartner. I particularly appreciate that the author consistently delivers well-driven characters with strong moral compasses and smoothly establishes narrative links to her Mirror Estate series characters. What I continue to love most is that every book tackles a different, high-profile criminal operation and is executed with a skilled, fast-paced intensity.

This book was offered to me as an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) in exchange for this honest review, which I provide voluntarily.

4/10: 2⭐️

Once again, this could be a case of ‘it’s me, not the book’?

Women are vanishing and bodies showing up at an alarming pace. The cases end up becoming a joint effort for the Orlando Major Crimes and the elite Orlando Prime Unit with a little bit of the FBI thrown in for fun. I did appreciate how the different law enforcement agencies worked together well and respectfully without any jurisdictional bs moaning and groaning. It gets tiresome when agencies argue more about who should be in charge than working together to solve the crime. I found that part of the story quite refreshing.

Beyond that, I struggled. Sometimes it felt like I jumped into the middle of an ongoing series. I checked a few times, and this is book 1. I did see afterwards that there is a prequel and a series featuring detective Cassidy’s FBI boyfriend, Tanner. So maybe that’s why it felt like I was missing things? I’m not sure.

There was also a boatload of characters. I either should have taken notes on who is who and what their role is or a character guide should have been provided with brief descriptions at the beginning of the book. Though this could be a me thing. I am confused on a daily basis. I also haven’t quite gotten back to my ‘normal’ not very good attention span from being sick and I did receive some incredibly difficult news in the middle of this book. But I was already confused at that point, and I did go back when I realized my crying distracted me for a few chapters. So I am not sure I can blame it on the difficult news.

The amount of characters that I couldn’t keep straight really distracted me from the story. I hope others are less confused. I finally gave up on trying to remember who was who and just went with it.

The story itself, that was also confusing. Why are they leaving the dead bodies to be found? I don’t know. I guess the book as a whole didn’t work for me overall. Yet a small part of me is still considering book 2 when that comes out. Maybe if I take notes at the beginning, and can remember who is who, it will be easier and I can maybe enjoy the story more? I don’t know. Read the blurb to get a better idea of what the book is about and check out other reviews. I only read one other review for this and it was a 4⭐️ much more positive review.

This is my first book by this author so I am not familiar with her writing style. Maybe it’s an author/reader clash? It wasn’t badly written by any means. Just too confusing and too many characters for my poor brain to keep track of.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read (love the read aloud option!!!) this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is already out.

Yikes this was a lot! Serial k!ller on the loose, bodies piling, cat & mouse games! What shocked me more was the motive behind said k!llings was something I wasn’t expecting!

KC was a very likable FMC! She definitely gave boss energy as she tried to solve this case that left the city shook. Aunt Mae was my absolute favorite person! Her shocking backstory was refreshing and added a nice layer to the story. Overall an enjoyable police procedural story that I would recommend.

This is a fascinating novel as bodies pile up and no one is sure why! None of the victims seemed to know each other and all are found in different areas so how are they related? Is it a serial killer or something even more nefarious? It's dark and edgy but oh so good!

This murder mystery thriller is exceptionally gripping, holding my attention from the very first page to the last. I went in with modest expectations and was genuinely surprised by how compelling the story turned out to be. Detective Kylie Cassidy (KC) quickly emerged as my favorite character—sharp, fearless, and utterly captivating. Each character is thoughtfully crafted, with traits that feel authentic and well-matched to their personalities. The seamless blend of a crime thriller with medical elements adds an extra layer of intrigue and significantly heightens the overall experience.

As bodies begin to surface and their numbers steadily increase, panic sets in within the police force, prompting Detective KC to immerse herself fully in the investigation. Despite being acutely aware of the danger involved, she relentlessly pursues the truth, determined to dismantle the organ trafficking operation at its core—even at great personal risk. KC is portrayed as a powerful, intelligent, and courageous woman whose determination is unwavering. She is bold, resilient, and unafraid to confront any threat that stands in her way.

Fatal Invitation is rich with emotion and intensity, offering a balanced mix of suspense, excitement, heartbreak, and hope. Supporting characters such as Aunt Mae, Tanner, Spaulding, Frank, and Joey leave a lasting impression and continue to resonate long after the story concludes. While it is not a short read, I found myself wishing it would go on—I simply didn’t want it to end. I sincerely look forward to reading more of Sylvia’s work; she is a remarkable writer who clearly understands how to keep readers fully engaged and invested.

“KC felt the familiar chill that came with recognizing a pattern. A beautiful influencer. A too-good-to-be-true opportunity. A young woman who trusted the wrong person.”

Whew! I escaped alive out of that crime thriller! S.F. Baumgartner writes in such a compelling way, I thought I was present in the scenes of Fatal Invitation. This series is a spin-off of the Mirror Estates series. Each book in the series can be a standalone. Kylie “KC” Cassidy is a small town detective who has just moved up to the Orlando Police Department. Still, the very first murder victim she investigates is one from her small town where she used to live with her Aunt Mae.

When a second victim with a similar MO is found shortly after, KC and her partner fight to keep jurisdiction from turning over to Orlando Prime, the city’s elite crime fighting organization. One aspect of the book is following KC and her new partner, Spaulding, to see if they can learn to work together and trust each other. After so long working by herself, can KC adjust to not only having a partner, but sharing her case with a whole nother unit?

Another is getting an overview of the Orlando Prime team, headed by Commander Frank Travers and his gang that is almost like family. I enjoyed meeting all of these individuals, and getting a feel for their place in crime solving. Jack has to be the comic relief of the team, in a sense. He is so very intelligent, but can he ever bird-walk. I could feel the whole team groaning whenever it was time for him to report in!

KC and the Orlando Prime team first believe they are tracking a serial killer. But what they eventually uncover is something more planned, more pervasive, and more deeply rooted than they could have imagined. Do they have the skills and resources to expose something so sinister before it takes them, especially KC, out?

Be ready for lots of characters, fast action, nail-biting tension, and a few twists. I will be looking forward to reading the rest of this clean, crime fiction series!

I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own ebook. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“And men under pressure do two things.” Eli’s voice lowered. “They break, or they double down.”

“He’d thrown away his medical license, his marriage, his self-respect. But maybe, just maybe, he could throw away his fear too.”

“But some of the most dangerous predators operated in plain sight, hiding behind credentials and public trust.”

S.F. Baumgartner takes readers on a dark and twisty ride in Fatal Invitation, the first book in the Detective Kylie Cassidy Series! Detective KC Cassidy is eager to hit the ground running with Major Crimes as a Detective with the Orlando PD. When KC’s latest case involves a body of a woman from her hometown of Pine Grove, the case hits differently—especially since KC knew the victim. As the case unfolds, more women are found all over the county with the same MO: their organs are missing and they didn’t put up a fight. The evidence left behind points to an illegal organ harvesting operation, leaving a breadcrumb trail to people in high places—putting KC’s life in danger.

S.F. Baumgartner has been on my reading radar for quite some time and I am so excited that I got the opportunity to read Fatal Invitation! Ms. Baumgartner definitely packed the suspense in Fatal Invitation with the rapid rate of bodies being found! I enjoyed meeting KC, but I felt that it was hard to get to know her at times. That didn’t bother me too much—I figured that was Ms. Baumgartner’s intent and that I would get to know KC better as the plot unfolded and the series continues. Because Ms. Baumgartner wrote Fatal Invitation this way, it made the book that much more intriguing to me. What I learned about KC was how passionate she is about her cases, wanting justice for the victims and their families. I love how that passion made her laser-focused in solving the cases and how others saw that as quirky. I especially love that when KC notified a woman’s loved one, KC saw that the family needed the Church and arranged it. Being a lover of mysteries, I really enjoyed the twisted desperate world of organ harvesting and the road the storyline went down because of it. The plot had whispers of Faith in it, but focused more on what it took to catch the bad guys. I liked how Fatal Invitation showed how other agencies, such as Orlando Prime, worked the case too. I enjoyed seeing the resources and gadgets that Orlando Prime had at its disposal. (Orlando Prime reminded me of Hawaii Five-O because of it!) Even though KC and Orlando Prime were working together, it didn’t feel like it a lot in the book because information wasn’t shared until after the fact and they often arrived at the same places, shocked that they were there for the same reasons. I will definitely read more of S.F. Baumgartner’s work in the future and I cannot wait to read what happens to KC next! If you are looking for a dark, twisty read with whispers of Faith in the midst of it, then I highly recommend Fatal Invitation by S.F. Baumgartner!

Fatal Invitation by S.F. Baugartner is a Crime Thriller is the first book in the Detective Kylie Cassidy Series.

From the very first page, this pulse-pounding thriller throws you into a world where justice is dangerous—and asking the right questions can get you killed.

Detective Kylie “KC” Cassidy thought landing a spot in Major Crimes meant respect, recognition, and a chance to prove herself. Instead, she finds herself chasing a string of brutal murders, each victim a haunting reminder that a predator is always one step ahead. Every lead she uncovers seems to circle back to Assistant State Attorney Gavin Watkins and his shadowy partner, Kozlov—but proof vanishes just as quickly as it appears.

What makes this story truly gripping is how personal the danger becomes. This isn’t just a case—it’s a fight for survival. When Kozlov’s men turn their attention to KC, the line between investigator and target blurs. The tension ratchets up as she’s forced to rely on her instincts and a fragile web of trust, never knowing who might betray her next.

The pacing is relentless, delivering a steady drumbeat of twists, close calls, and revelations that keep you leaning forward in your seat. The author excels at creating that edge-of-your-seat feeling where you need to read just one more chapter—then another, and another. KC’s strength, fear, and determination make her a heroine you can’t help but root for, even when the odds seem stacked against her.

Final Thoughts:
This is the kind of thriller that doesn’t just entertain—it hooks you. If you love high-stakes investigations, morally gray villains, and a strong female lead fighting for truth in a world built on lies, this book deserves a top spot on your reading list. Just be warned: once you start, sleep becomes optional

So if you enjoy Crime Thrillers, check out Fatal Invitation by S.F. Baugartner.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

From its opening chapters to its final moments, this novel delivers a gripping and immersive murder-mystery experience that consistently sustains tension and intrigue. The narrative is expertly paced, with layered plotlines and polished writing that reflect a strong command of the genre. What begins as a compelling crime story quickly evolves into something far more complex and emotionally engaging.

At the center of the novel is Detective Kylie Cassidy (KC), a protagonist who commands attention through her intelligence, resilience, and unwavering resolve. As a disturbing pattern of unexplained deaths emerges, KC takes on an investigation that grows increasingly perilous, delving into a dark world of illegal organ trafficking. Fully aware of the risks, she commits herself to uncovering the truth, demonstrating exceptional courage and an unrelenting sense of duty. Her portrayal as a sharp, fearless, and principled investigator makes her both admirable and unforgettable.

This work stands as a testament to Sylvie’s storytelling skill and her ability to captivate readers through compelling characters, intricate plotting, and sustained emotional engagement. It is a highly satisfying read that leaves one eager to explore more of her writing.

I’d give it a 4-4.5 out of 5 as there a few points that I’d like to point out. Apart from these points it’s a solid 5 out of 5 read.

1. Watkins affiliation with Kazlov wasn’t really strongly explained throughout or at the end.

2. Point of having Brian in the whole thing. His role as Sheri’s bf was enough after that his role lost spark.

3. Why was KC not affected while Watkins so close to her literally died from the blast.

These incomplete points made it a 4/5 read.

Now talking about the good points:

1. The characters were strongly developed with clear and prominent qualities.

2. The writing was intelligible and smooth. Easy to read and understand.

3. The plot twist and storyline both were AH-MAZING!!!

This story will surely stay with me for a long while and I hope to see it come to life on the big screen *fingers crossed*

So glad I finally got the chance to read this banger, heard so many good things and positive reviews about it. I completed this one in three days and it was an absolute game changer for me. I was struggling to get out of my reading slump and this book: fatal invitation helped me.

Fans of crime/mystery thriller will go crazy over this one. It’s a perfect blend of scary, emotional, and suspense. I read many groupies talking about being their heart rates going up and trust me, I experienced the same.

Kylie Cassidy is a detective that works with Orlando Prime for this case and she wins hearts with her loyalty and hard work (and risking her life)

Why is no one talking about Bat Signals? I mean it’s such a cute aspect in this crime thriller. I loved it and I hope Aunt Mae and Jaggers get together in future.

Highly recommended from my side.

What in the world did I just read!!??

This was so good man, I loved every bit, every detail of this book. Where was sylvia f. hiding the whole time. KC and her buddies were bad a** and I loved everyone’s attitude towards a case. Because normally people lose hope and move on to their next case but their dedication was next level. I was hooked the whole time and I read this one in 2 days, yes, two days because I couldn’t put it down.

Fatal Invitation delivers a taut, relentlessly paced crime thriller that balances propulsive storytelling with a sharp-eyed exploration of power, corruption, and the personal cost of pursuing justice. Anchored by a compelling protagonist and driven by escalating stakes, the novel offers general readers an absorbing plunge into a world where every lead is fragile, every alliance suspect, and survival itself becomes an act of defiance.

At the heart of the story is Detective Kylie “KC” Cassidy, whose long-awaited transfer to Major Crimes is meant to mark a professional turning point. Instead, it thrusts her into a chilling investigation involving vanished women and a steadily rising body count. KC emerges as a formidable lead—intelligent, tenacious, and grounded—yet never invulnerable. Her determination feels earned rather than performative, shaped by hard-won instincts and a refusal to look away even as the danger closes in. The novel excels in portraying her not merely as a detective chasing clues, but as a human being navigating fear, isolation, and the moral weight of the truth she uncovers.

The antagonistic forces are equally well rendered. Assistant State Attorney Gavin Watkins and the shadowy Kozlov form a disturbing axis of influence, embodying the unsettling idea that predators can operate behind polished titles and legal authority. Their elusiveness fuels the novel’s tension, as leads evaporate and justice seems perpetually just out of reach. The author skillfully sustains suspense by allowing the investigation to progress in fits and starts, mirroring the frustration and peril inherent in pursuing powerful adversaries who know how to erase their tracks.

Structurally, Fatal Invitation is brisk without feeling rushed. Each chapter advances the plot while deepening the sense of threat, and the pacing remains disciplined even as the stakes intensify. The action sequences are sharp and purposeful, serving the narrative rather than overwhelming it, while quieter moments provide space for character development and reflection. This balance ensures that the novel remains emotionally engaging as well as thrilling.

One of the book’s notable strengths lies in its thematic undercurrents. Beyond the surface-level suspense, the story interrogates the cost of integrity in a compromised system and the courage required to confront institutional rot. Trust—who deserves it, who betrays it, and how fragile it becomes under pressure—emerges as a recurring motif. KC’s reliance on a small circle of allies underscores both the necessity and the risk of connection in a profession where isolation can be deadly.

Stylistically, the prose is clean, confident, and purposeful, well suited to the genre. The narrative voice maintains clarity while allowing moments of intensity and urgency to land with force. Fans of crime fiction will recognize echoes of the genre’s finest traditions, particularly in the novel’s relentless pursuit of justice and its focus on investigative rigor. Comparisons to Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch series and Lisa Gardner’s D.D. Warren are apt, not as imitations but as points of kinship in tone and thematic ambition.

Ultimately, Fatal Invitation succeeds as both a gripping thriller and a character-driven crime novel. It invites readers to follow a determined detective into increasingly dangerous territory, then challenges them to consider what justice demands when the truth makes you a target. For general readers seeking a fast-paced yet substantive crime story—one that combines suspense, moral complexity, and a strong central figure—Fatal Invitation is a compelling and thoroughly satisfying read.

KC knows how to fight a big bad, but what happens when she’s in their crossfire?

Detective Kylie Cassidy (KC) is fiercely trying to get justice for the victims of this case, picking up the slack where the system failed them, and she delivers. Following leads, cooperating with prime, and taking Aunt Mae’s advice, KC knows she needs to get to the bottom of this operation. I also really loved that we had such a humanizing moment so early on, connecting me immediately to what was happening in the case.

Fatal Invitation by S. F. Baumgartner is a crime thriller that’s so action packed, while still giving us room to sus out the criminals right alongside the detectives on the case. Was I pointing fingers at many innocent people while reading? Of course, but each wrong turn got me to where I needed to go.

My focus was on what the staging meant, how an organization of this magnitude could operate, and just how much they stifle Jack who always has the answers, but never gets to the point. This was such a fun cast of characters with very specific strengths and I’m so glad they worked together to solve the case. Where I wasn’t crazy about it was with KC’s personal life that was unrelated to the story. It felt a bit jarring and distracting at times—I would’ve preferred a more in depth explanation or to scrap it all together. Still, this was such a great read that it didn’t deter my rating too much.

Fatal Invitation will resonate strongly with readers who favor crime fiction driven by tension, intelligence, and moral consequence. Blending procedural realism with relentless suspense, the novel offers a fast-moving narrative that remains thematically grounded. It is a confident thriller that underscores the cost of uncovering the truth—and the courage required to pursue it when powerful forces are determined to keep it buried.

At the center of the story is Detective KC, whose investigation into a series of vanished and murdered women places her on a collision course with adversaries who wield influence as ruthlessly as violence. As evidence disappears and threats escalate, what begins as a promising career opportunity rapidly transforms into a fight for survival. KC is portrayed as a determined, capable investigator whose resolve is tested not only by brutal criminals, but by the isolation that comes with challenging entrenched corruption.

The novel distinguishes itself through disciplined pacing and a steadily intensifying sense of danger. Each revelation deepens the narrative’s complexity, drawing the reader further into a shadowy world where justice is neither straightforward nor safe. With its sharp escalation and high stakes, Fatal Invitation delivers a gripping reading experience that lingers well beyond its final pages.

Fatal Invitation by S.F. Baumgartner is a gripping, 5-star crime thriller that delivers exactly what the genre promises: tension, danger, and a fierce, relentless heroine you can’t help but root for.
Detective Kylie “KC” Cassidy is a standout FMC—driven, determined, and unafraid to push back as she hunts a predator targeting young women, even when every new lead pulls her deeper into a deadly web.
The pacing is exciting and fast, with twists and turns that keep the stakes high and the pages flying. Every time you think you know where the case is heading, the story shifts, revealing new layers of corruption and threat.
The investigation feels smart and grounded, while still delivering those big, satisfying “oh no” and “oh WOW” moments that thriller readers live for.
As the first book in the Detective Kylie Cassidy series, Fatal Invitation is a fantastic start—character-driven, twisty, and impossible to put down. Fans of gritty, high-stakes crime thrillers with a fierce female lead will have a blast with this one, and it sets up the series in a way that makes the next case a must-read.

This book was a really engaging read. The writing style is smooth and easy to follow, which made it hard to put the book down. The author has a great way of building tension and keeping the pace steady, just right for a thriller that feels exciting without being overwhelming.

The novel follows a detective caught up in a dark and dangerous case, and the mystery is handled in a way that keeps you curious throughout. I liked how the author maintains suspense while keeping the storytelling focused and polished. The atmosphere feels tense and gripping, making it the kind of book you want to keep reading just to see how things unfold.

Overall, it’s a well-written and enjoyable thriller that delivers a strong reading experience. What I loved most was how confident and polished the writing felt throughout the novel. Even though it’s packed with suspense, the storytelling stays clear and balanced, which made the whole experience enjoyable from start to finish. Overall, it’s a well-written, satisfying read I’d happily recommend to anyone who likes thrillers with sharp writing and steady momentum. ✨

Baumgartner is off and running on a new entertaining detective series. There are interesting and engaging characters, including a brave heroine. KC is a great detective, dedicated and willing to step into dangerous situations. And there is plenty of danger and suspense as the plot develops. There is also a new special task force in Orlando called Orlando Prime. They combine their forces with the police department to work on the murder cases. While there is some tension between the two at the beginning, they find their way to work together. Baumgartner changes the focus from one enforcement group to the other as the action proceeds.

This is an engaging police investigative novel. Baumgartner's writing style is good. The suspense grows and I did not feel it lagged at all. This is a great start to a new series. Those who have read the Mirror Estate Series will recognize a name or two but reading that series is not necessary to enjoy this one.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through BookSirens. My comments are an independent and honest review.

This is the first book that I have read by S.F. Baumgartner and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fast faced, kept me engaged wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Kylie Cassidy, a new detective with the Orlando Police Department, is thrust into what at first seems to be a single homicide case and becomes a search for a serial killer as more female victims are found. The victims seem to exhibit the same markings, but were found in different locations.

I was not aware, prior to reading this book, that Kylie was a character in another of the author's series. Kylie is determined to find who is behind these killings. The supporting characters work well together, love Aunt Mae. I did find that at times Kylie's personal life was a distraction.

This is a promising start to this series. The author gave us some twists and turns and lots of action. I am excited to read the next Kylie Cassidy book and I will be reading her other books.

I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Kylie Cassidy (KC) embarks on her new role at Orlando PD’s Major Crimes division with an immediate challenge. The discovery of a young woman’s body hits close to home for KC, as she knows the victim from her hometown of Pine Grove. This personal connection allows KC to delve deeper into the investigation, which soon reveals itself to be more intricate than a single homicide.
As KC investigates, the case expands and raises the possibility of a serial crime. The newly formed Orlando Prime elite task force takes charge, and KC, alongside her partner Spaulding, continues to pursue leads while coordinating with the Orlando Prime team. The investigation evolves with numerous twists and turns, keeping both the detectives and readers guessing how KC and her colleagues will ultimately solve the case.
This was my first book by this author, and I look forward to reading more. I received the ARC from Bookish Boosters via a social media ad. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and am eager to see where KC goes next. The story was compelling, and the police procedural elements felt authentic and well-paced.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to be an ARC reader. This was a fast-paced thriller that I genuinely could not put down, and it’s an absolute must-read for true crime lovers and Lifetime movie junkies alike.

The chapters are short and perfectly structured to keep your attention, making it incredibly easy to say “just one more chapter” until suddenly you’re at the end. The story keeps you guessing the entire time, with twists that feel purposeful and well-timed rather than predictable.

I especially loved the format of certain chapters that included interviews and the process of narrowing down suspects. If you’ve ever studied crime or are familiar with true-crime storytelling, this approach will really stand out and add an extra layer of authenticity and engagement.

Overall, this was a gripping, addictive read that kept me hooked from start to finish. A solid 5-star thriller that I’ll definitely be recommending.

The story is dark, intense, and full of twists. The investigation keeps the tension high, and the danger feels real at every moment. Fatal Invitation is a fast-paced and intense crime thriller that grabs your attention from the first page. The story follows Detective Kylie “KC” Cassidy, a determined Major Crimes detective who suddenly finds herself chasing a series of brutal murders of young women. As bodies begin piling up with no obvious links between them, KC must unravel the mystery and push through danger, betrayal, and deception to find the truth.

What makes this book so compelling is its cat-and-mouse investigation, the sharp tension that keeps you turning pages, and a strong lead in KC—fierce, smart, and very relatable. The mystery twists in unexpected ways, and the pacing never lets up, making it hard to put down. Fans of gritty police procedurals and thrillers with surprise reveals will love this one.

Perfect for anyone who enjoys taut suspense, clever clues, and a heroine who won’t quit even when the danger closes in.

Fatal Invisible easily made it to my fav books of 2025. Idk why I came across S. F. Baumgartner so late. She definitely deserves more attention, recognition and promotion. Her work can be adopted into a series or tv show, maybe a movie too.

Detective Kylie is the main character who is a determined, strong, independent and brave woman. She’s young and full of ambition. She’s groomed and taken care of by Aunt Mae which made me so happy whenever I read the scenes between Mae and KC. Jaggers and Mae can surely have a love story; maybe the author plans to write in another part because the uncle’s dead and it’s the perfect time and opportunity lol.

Kylie’s team and Prime both made a great detective team. Kozlov’s involvement in the organ transplantation opened a medical window in the story which was informative and interesting to read about. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I hope to read more of S. F’s work.

Thank you mbooktours and S. F. Baumgartner for making me a part of this book tour.

Fatal Invitation is a fast paced, action packed, mystery murder thriller. It has this strange drive that pulls you in completely in the story and you’re unable to put it down until you finish it.

One thing that bothered me was I couldn’t understand really the involvement of Brian and Louise, I understand they were medical entities but still I felt their presence useless.

The other guy, the mysterious one sneaking into KC’s home and then hitting her car and also present at the Sheri and Celina’s crime scene was not really disclosed at the end. I get it that he worked for Kozlov and Big D but still a good mystery thriller reveals everything and everyone at the end unless there’s a prequel and surety that it will be revealed further.

Apart from the above mentioned points, I absolutely loved the story, I finished it in 3 sittings. It was an easy and gripping read. A solid 4 out of 5.

Fatal Invitation and S. F. Baumgartner successfully made it to my top favs list and I’m hoping to read more from this author as it appears this is a part from a series or a prequel and I can’t wait to read and love them as well.

I honestly felt so bad for Sheri, the other victims made me sad too but Sheri was at the starting scene and she was really looking forward to it. Author gives the message to never get greedy over social media stuff and do research before diving in.

The organ trafficking was something scary to read about because it’s actually happening in today’s world and it’s a sad yet dangerous reality.

Detective KC and Splauding made a wonderful team and KC’s bravery really dazzled me because despite being blackmailed she still decided to meet Watkins. Her own life was at risk but that didn’t stop her. So pleased with KC’s character.

Thanks a lot mbooktours and S. Baumgartner for the opportunity.

Fatal Invitation is a darkly compelling crime thriller that grips the reader from the first page and never loosens its hold. The narrative weaves together a chilling series of disappearances, mounting violence, and a relentless investigation that places its heroine squarely in the crosshairs of powerful adversaries.

Detective Kylie Cassidy is sharply drawn and refreshingly resolute, navigating a dangerous maze of corruption, secrecy, and betrayal. As the investigation closes in on Assistant State Attorney Gavin Watkins and the enigmatic Kozlov, the tension escalates with each chapter, creating an atmosphere of constant unease and urgency.

With its crisp prose, fast-paced plotting, and expertly sustained suspense, Fatal Invitation stands as a strong, confident thriller. Readers who appreciate intelligent crime fiction with high stakes and a determined lead will find this novel both absorbing and thoroughly satisfying.
