Special Agent Mallory Channing has had to fight every inch of the way to forge a career in a male-dominated bureaucracy. Beautiful, intelligent, and well educated, Mallory is determined to prove herself by volunteering for the most dangerous assignments. But nothing in her training can prepare her for the peril she faces when she finds herself taken from civilization and deposited into the remote, barbarous world of "white slavery" which lies just beneath the surface of her modern, civilized world.
(Pseudonym) Who is Don Winslow? Hard to say; but we can only tell you who he is NOT. He is not the REAL Don Winslow. That honor belongs to a guy who writes whodunits for a living. In a case of bad timing (for him) the fake Don Winslow emerged in the golden age of erotic fiction and had established an international reputation as a writer of quality erotica. Then along came the author with birthright to the name and, as he struggled to become a literary icon in his chosen genre, he found to his alarm that people kept asking him if he still wrote those “dirty books.” One can sympathize with a writer who tries so hard to be taken seriously, only to find his reputation soiled by a common pornographer! And so it goes. Life is unfair.
And so we can tell you dear reader that the fake Don Winslow is an internationally best-selling author who has written some 20 books of erotic fiction.
Every now and then you get to read something that seems to transcend the line between erotica and mainstream. A story that has all the components of a mainstream work, with the added thrill of really hot sex. This is definitely one of those times.
Molly Channing and Karen Palazzi are two very attractive agents that work for the FBI. As women, they are assigned the less glamorous aspects of the cases they investigate. Bowing to pressure from outside, they have been assigned together and given the "Dillon" case. Meghan Dillon is missing and her very well connected father wants action and answers. It is a case important enough to get the FBI some good public relations if they are successful, but not too big to bury if they blow it.
They go to San Francisco to work the case. Soon, they realize that once again, they are nothing more than glorified secretaries for the more active male investigators of the team. Hence, when a tip comes in, they act on it.
Without backup, they stumble into a trap. Captured by white slavers, they are forced to suffer erotic punishment at the hands, and anything else, of their captors. Punished and abused, separately and together, the women have no hope for escape as they are taken on a trip they won't soon forget.
This is a good novel full of hot sex and strong, detailed characters. The plot and the action move along at a steady pace and lead to a very satisfying conclusion.
A woman, Standford graduate student Meghan Dillon, is missing and the FBI's first partnership of two women help local authorities investigate the case. Special Agent Mallory Channing (40) is an experienced agent, and 28 year-old Kip Palazzi is inexperienced.
Despite standard operating procedures calling for the FBI to take over a case once its agents are on the scene, an arrangement has been made where Sheriff Lonigen will remain in overall charge and the agents will provide assistance, as needed (page 7). The assistance: handling the press, re-interviewing the contacts and generally helping out in the squad room including manning the phones. Kip Palazzi, handling the phones, receives a tip : "If they wanted to find the blonde chick they should check out a boat called Big Wizz off Sycamore point." Palazzi and Mallory are the only ones in the office when the tip comes in, and seeing their chance for some real work, immediately head to the marina, without leaving word of their activities.
The agents rent a boat and head out to near the Big Wizz (a large yacht), and act as if they were just tourists sunbathing on the water (and as neither brought a swimsuit, that involves a certain amount of nudity). When the agents spot some men leaving Big Wizz on a small boat, they head over to the yacht and go on-board. As the agents wander through the ship, they head toward some soft moans, and are captured and restrained. They eventually find out that the moans had been coming from the barely clothed Meghan, restrained, and hanging in a room on the boat.
Despite protests that they are Federal agents and that those on board are in trouble with the law, the Big Wiz's Captain (Captain Thompson) takes the boat out into international waters, and heads down to South America. On the way, the Captain and crew play with their captives. Arriving in South America, the three women are sold to a representative (Major Guzman) of a guerrilla leader (General Hernandez). The representative leads the women along a long trail up into the mountains, and eventually reaches the guerrilla camp.
Overall, Winslow's book is interesting, the plot has some holes, and the characterization of the major characters is good. The book contains Humiliation/rape/nc/white slavery.
Not even remotely possible. Mostly just a rape fantasy. 2 FBI agents in the 21st century without cell phones, no contact with superiors, who abandon all protocol and decide to break the law while searching a vessel without a search warrant. Really only interesting if you have a particular fetish.
