Trapped in Deception is a crime thriller by Ken Webb. This is a fast-moving novel that captured my attention quickly. The main character, Shawn Larson, is the kind of guy we've all met: good-looking, charismatic, and a complete con-man. We learn right away that he works the scam and is willing to be deceptive for years in order to get the payout. More than that, Shawn is ruthless.

But what happens when he cons the wrong person, and this person, Eddy, realizes he has the chance to get even? That's the story that Ken weaves, and this story takes us from Dallas to Miami to Peru, as Shawn begins his next con.

I especially love how the 'good guys' though good, aren't pristine. They each have a past, and this past isn't always pretty. Ken did a great job pulling me into the story - and leaving just enough room for a sequel! You're going to love this book!

A financial psychopath thriller

Trapped in Deception follows a con artist who is callous, charming, promiscuous, intelligent, and dangerously overconfident—a man who believes he always has the upper hand. His schemes are meticulous and designed for the long game. But there is no such thing as a perfect crime, and no criminal is flawless. This psychopath, embodying the full dark triad, is about to discover that he has finally met his match.

The story does a great job of showing that even an underdog can become a hero when given the right opportunity and the means to fight back. The tension builds steadily, and the psychological chess match keeps you engaged throughout.

The novel works well as a standalone story, but the ending clearly leaves room for a series, opening the door for what could be an exciting continuation.

You can also tell the author has a military background—and indeed he does—from the authentic handling of tactics, weapons, and the natural way peers interact. These details add realism and credibility, strengthening the overall narrative.

I recommend this book.

Ken Webb’s Trapped in Deception provides the reader with a seasoned Soldier in the character of Eddy Ludt who is brought face to face with an old nemesis, Shawn Larson who portrays the archetypal psychopath. Webb provides an excellent character development for Ludt, who like many combat Soldiers, finds himself haunted by unresolved episodes of the past. The reader will delve partly into Webb’s personal experience with military police and military intelligence, both of which are the primary military foundations of Ludt. From Texas to Peru, Web expertly illustrates the landscape, the crusty cast of characters, and the metamorphosis that Ludt undergoes. Enjoy the ride!

Brilliant narration from Ken Webb, who brings the trill, action and suspense to your ears.

From the start I was hooked with this crime thriller. Shawn Larson who after he robs a bank in Dallas, fakes his death, and vanishes without a trace. A man of no moral convictions. Army reservist Eddy Lutz, ab army reservist finds himself, thrown into the hunt for Shawn. He is a man who can’t stop himself putting his hand up and helping even it means trouble for him.
The pace, action and suspense will keep you on your toes to the very end. Full of tension and a reluctant hero you believe in.

Trapped in Deception is a fast-paced, engaging thriller that draws you in quickly. The narrative moves confidently through military and strategic settings, reflecting the author’s familiarity with these worlds, not just in their technical detail, but also in the way the story captures the psychological depth behind power and ambition. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy mystery and action.

This was fun to read! Trapped in Deception feels like the beginning of something bigger. The way the story is set up suggests there’s more to come, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the series develops. Overall, an entertaining start with plenty of room to grow—and I’ll be interested to follow where the story goes next.
