In the utopian society of Xantera, nothing is a utopia beneath the surface. Twenty-three-year-old Saskia would do anything to tear down the Wall to liberate her people, but now it's too late. She failed to get the key. Failed to open the door. Failed to destroy the Guardians before she fell.

But when Saskia finally comes face-to-face with the very Monster she's always been taught to fear, everything changes. Not only is life outside the Wall the opposite of all she's ever known, but a centuries-old force is at work, slowly waking up after years of dormancy. Together, Saskia and Lucan must face the truth that even the Guardians themselves could have never guessed—a truth that could save Xantera after all...

Or destroy it.

I can’t put into words how much I absolutely love how this was written. The characters, the writing, the storyline. I adore it. It had this perfect balance between being heartfelt and fun. It was a perfect combination.

I had high expectations for this sequel and to no one’s surprise, they were met and even surpassed. I never have to worry about not liking one of Mariah’s books LOL. They’re always amazing. I’m going to have to read every single book of hers and Grace’s asap.

One thing I really enjoyed about this duology was how every character was handled. To write complex main characters are one thing, but when every single character gets it’s own story and has a kind of depth, that’s when it gets really impressive. Grace talked about how difficult it was to write the personality of a character that wasn’t really allowed to have one in her author’s note, and I just need to say that it was done perfectly. It was sooo interesting being in her head. The fact that she’s an amazing person is another thing, but just the way she thought was sooo well done. She also felt so incredibly real. Like an actual person was put into words. You could really see how the authors truly understood the character they were creating.

The world building is also so fun. It’s nothing completely new, and yet it feels like nothing I’ve read before. It was predictable at times, but not even necessarily in a bad way. I never got bored, partly because I could see where it was heading and that was EXCITING.

The characters itself are AMAZING. And their chemistry is next level!! I don’t know how many times I caught myself smiling at the pages.

This was a beautiful book and I absolutely ADORE Saskia (and Lucan ofc). Thank you so much for this eARC.

✨Veradel✨

Author: Grace & Mariah
Release: 11.24.25
Series: Guardians & Monster duet, book 2

What a delightful finale to this unique PNR romance duet by Mariah and Grace! Book one drew me in with their ability to create interesting characters in an oppressed society where everyone is bred to be the same and follow extremely strict rules as well as developing a delicious romance where the characters don’t even meet face to face until book two and yet there’s so much CONNECTION and angst.

Veradel starts with a bang 😉🙃 and we finally get to see our two MCs meet in the physical realm. Saskia finally experiences life outside the Wall but its far from dandy, because she is now faced with a pack tentative to trust her, a new development in her biology that can ruin not only her future but her love, and the daunting task of saving her enslaved city.

We get deeper world building (though it is still pretty light), new powers, increased found family, the spice starts kickin’, and all the feral protectiveness from our favorite alpha. The relationship between Saskia and Lucan is precious and I felt that they had great communication, acceptance, and understanding for one another. I adored Soren and the rest of the pack; they never failed to bring a smile to my face. And seeing a city rise up in the face of fear and hopelessness to form a revolution for freedom and choice was beautiful.

Tropes you may find in Veradel are forced proximity, mind speak, good girl, banter, found family, light world building, vamps and werewolves, medium spice, dual POV, dystopian PNR, 🔥 the world for her, touch her and 💀, and he’s only soft for her.

Grace, Mariah, thank you so much for this gifted arc. I enjoyed this duet so very much and am excited to read more from you both!

VERADEL by Mariah Montoya & Grace Pearce
A sequel worth every single sleepless page turn.

I DEVOURED this.
Dystopian fantasy romance besties, RUN don’t walk — this series has my whole heart.

Went from no touchy to all the touchy and I was squealing. Lucan? Alpha coded in the best way. That ending gave Breaking Dawn Part 2 (but NOT a vision!!) energy and I ate it up. Action, tension, sadness, perfect wrap-up — I didn’t want it to end. 🥹

Keeping my eyes glued to anything these authors publish next. 🖤👀

i was incredibly grateful to the authors for trusting me with an ARC copy of Veradel. Another 6 stars if they would let me, Veradel is a beautiful little bow on an incredible duology. Again the world building puts you in the center of their world, experiencing and visualizing everything along side Saskia and Lucan, you fall in love with characters, you grow with characters and you see a society fight for what they deserve. this book is a beautiful work of art, and a gorgeous reminder to live your life to the fullest.

First I want to say thank you for the ARC Mariah and Grace 🫶🏼

The second book and final book in the Guardians and Monsters series is one for the books (literally). Action packed, spicy, and funny what more could a girl ask for? What a way to end a duology from the side characters to the main ones, I was constantly surprised with what was coming next.

Lucan 🥵

What a perfect conclusion to this duet!
I’m so glad I had the opportunity to ARC read because the first book, Xantera, consumed me. We pick up in Veradel right where we left off in book one.

When Saskia comes face to face with the Monster she was made to fear it’s all gas no breaks action, steamy romance, and amazing character growth.

This series surrounds a corrupt utopian society ruled by 12 Guardians. Saskia discovers a relic that ultimately unravels what she’s been raised to believe.

If you love PNR romance, this duo deserves a spot on your TBR. The writing is absolutely addictive, the romance swoon worthy, and the plot line is fascinating. I was hooked start to finish while reading both books.

I’m so eager to read more books by both authors!

Veradel is Book 2 following Xantera in the Guardians & Monsters Duet. I was pretty giddy to continue with Saskia and Lucan, and pleased with how their relationship had evolved from Book 1. Saskia’s mission ends up not going as planned, leading her right to Lucan, whom her people consider a Monster. However, they end up joining forces and working together to accomplish Sakia’s mission, but this time it’s their mission. During this period, the way they communicated through their mind in Book 1, I felt, helped build a stronger foundation for them in this book—the romance and all the spice transition well. I felt there were parts of the story that were almost light and fun, even when they both discover more about who Saskia is.

Though that happiness couldn’t last forever, because Lucan’s pack had a us-versus-them mentality and wanted nothing to do with Saskia or trusted her. I loved how Lucan stood by Saskia’s side and just his overall acceptance of who she is. He loves her just as she is, and this is strongly shown throughout the story, especially as the other members of his pact challenged him.

After reading Book 1, I honestly didn’t know how things would evolve, but overall, I enjoyed how everything pulled together and was entertained.

Thank you to the authors, Grace Pearce and Mariah Montoya, for the gifted e-copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to the authors for the ARC and allowing me to obsess over this earlier than release 🫶🏼

Veradel was everything! This Duology may be my favorite that I've ever read.

This follow up to Xantera explored so much more having to do with family and feeling at home in a place that isn't yours. Saskia and Lucan continued to draw me in and make this such a fun adventure. THE WALL?! NEED I SAY MORE.

I truly don't think there could have been a better ending, it was so satisfying and wrapped up the story perfectly.

ALSO THANK YOU TO THE AUTHORS FOR NOT GIVING A THIRD ACT BREAKUP CAUSE FUCK THAT.

Anyway, read this book, it was incredible 🫶🏼

My thoughts:

I liked the concept of this society in a bubble but like some other reviewers pointed out there are still some plot holes like how is it being sustained?

Of the characters Saskia was pretty badass although Lucan started to get on my nerves

I’m going to try my best to write a spoiler-free review. This book completely hooked me, I started it and finished it in one sitting.
The Little Nightmare and the Monster’s story picks up exactly where the first book ended, and after that cliffhanger I was desperate to start the sequel ASAP! Luckily, I had the chance to read Veradel in advance, and I will forever be grateful to Grace and Mariah for the opportunity and the trust.

In a utopian society ruled by twelve ruthless Guardians masquerading as protectors, the people of Xantera believe they’re being kept safe from the Monster lurking beyond the Wall. But no one in Xantera is truly free: the Twelve decide everything, the food people must eat, who they must marry, when they can have children, they control every aspect of life.

But when Saskia finds a peculiar necklace that links her to the Monster, she begins to realize what’s truly wrong with the Twelve.
Working alongside the Monster, she’s ready to free Xantera.

The first book was full of tension between Saskia and the Monster, but the second one is full of spice! I loved every single page of Veradel.
Mariah and Grace’s writing is incredible and never bores the reader. I felt like I was right there in the story, at Saskia and Lucan’s side.

I’m honestly sad to say goodbye to all of these characters.

You need to add Xantera and Veradel to your TBR right now! The banter, the mind-to-mind communication, the tension, the spice, the way Saskia learns how strong she truly is… everything is just perfect.

A huge thanks to Mariah and Grace for the arc 🥹💖

🇮🇹:

Ringrazio ancora tantissimo Mariah and Grace for the arc 💖

✨ Veradel (Guardians & Monsters Duology #2) ✨

I LOVED the first book, so diving into Veradel was a no-brainer, and it did not disappoint! This sequel picks up right where Xantera left off, and the pace takes off immediately. Twists, turns, and surprises kept me hooked, and I adored following Saskia and Lucan’s journey.

💫 Saskia is still discovering herself and finally making her own choices, even the small ones. The scene where they are cooking breakfast together is so sweet because it’s new for her and he gets to be the one to show her.

🐺 Lucan… cue the drooling emoji. His aura is everything. He doesn’t care about the crown or the power, he just wants her.

❤️ Xantera was all yearning, but be prepared: Veradel brings the spice and the action!

🌍 The world-building is phenomenal. Beyond the romance and action, this story resonates with today’s political climate… it made me want to speak out and fight for the importance of choice in our own society.

FAV QUOTES!
“I want to make you feel alive. I want to be the one that rips you to pieces and the one to put you back together again”

“They took away every pleasure in the world from you. And it’s only fitting that I’m the one to give it back.”

“You are the light, and I am your dark. I’ll be a monster whenever you need one.”

“We’re all capable of evil. We all hurt others at some point I our lives. I’m no exception. But that doesn’t mean we can’t grow and learn. Choose something differently the next time.”

I've been waiting for this sequel for too long!

Seeing Saskia's face on the walls of Xantera was thrilling, but also made my heart stop🤣
Doubts arise as to how she could have survived falling from such a great height. This thought remains even after Lucan and the human finally meet in person after months of communicating only telepathically.

After a long period of tension without ever seeing or touching each other, the passion between the two MCs is instantaneous.
Lucan's desire to be with Saskia and free Xantera is directly proportional to his need to keep her safe; he is even willing to give up his role as Alpha to make it happen.

But this raises a question for both the miraculously saved human and the monsters: how can they enter the walls when they have not succeeded in doing so for over five centuries?

To say that unrest is spreading among the people outside the walls would be an understatement. Added to this, Saskia is concerned for the other Chosen Ones who are trapped in the clutches of the Guardians.
Despite the risk to her own safety, Saskia and Lucan will find a way to free the innocent. But this will not come without consequences👀

This dilogy series took me back to the series I used to devour as a teenager.
It's definitely worth reading 😍

"𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔦𝔫 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔰 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔰𝔞𝔪𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔢."

this was the most perfect ending to this stunning duology. saskia and lucan have my heart and they will for the rest of my life. their story was so beautiful and so painful up until the very end and i’m reeling from everything they went through.

saskia is such a strong fmc and no matter what got thrown her way, she always came out on top and knew exactly what she needed to do to excel.

i absolutely adore lucan. for being the “monster” that everyone was taught to fear, he’s such a caring mmc. not only for saskia, but his entire family and everyone else around him.

there were so many twists and revelations that i wasn’t expecting coming into this second book and when i tell you i was gasping and sobbing throughout the last 10% i mean that audibly. i fell in love with this world with the first book and was afraid it wouldn’t get the ending i was anticipating, but it definitely exceeded my expectations!!

thank you so much to mariah and grace for the arc, i absolutely devoured this world and can’t wait to dive into more from each of you!!

***content sigh*** I really enjoyed reading this book, and the one before it, of course! Seriously, we need more short and sweet duology's like this one. Not everything needs to be 200k words per book and a 5 book series. Montoya and Pearce got it right with this one! The pace is fast, the story gets right to the point (no long chapters of the FMC thinking the same thing over and over), and the spice level is perfect. The ending was satisfying and well deserved. I also think they did a great job of knowing when to switch the POV in the midst of a scene.

I did notice some spots where the wording seemed a bit off, like you know what the authors are trying to say, but the words don't quite match or it sounds funny to say out loud. But I don't feel like the little hiccups in the writing is worth taking away a star. Just something I like to note to help the authors if they read this 🙂

Thank you for the ARC copy of this book! I can't wait to buy the shelf trophy when it releases!

As a vibes read this would have been fun, like the first book of this duology. But the severe lack of worldbuilding took too much away to focus just on the vibes.

How can in a walled in city of a couple of thousand humans modern medical equipment and electricity exist? Is there a mine? Is there an oil vell and a plastic factory? Are there mines and forges for the metal parts of medical equipment?
The town of Xantera is simply too small for their society to develop all of that.

Then how is there no other civilization out there that ever came across the crumbling werewolf town next to a strange huge wall of stone? How could the werewolves even survive in their human form with medical equipment from 500 years ago that should have crumbled. They had no mines and forges either to make anything new.

Also the romance has not really a perfect HEA. Saskia is stuck at being 23 year old for eternity while Lucan will die around 1000 years old and will age and soon-ish be an old man. Maybe Saskia‘s venom should have made him stop aging but alas, that‘s not he case.

This conclusion to the duology just left me frustrated. It could have been so much more, would the worldbuilding have made sense.

Grateful to receive an ARC of this series because i could not wait for the 2nd installment after reading Xantera. A very fun read in an unique world, i love the story built up and the system of this world, though i would love to explore more of it, i am glad that the story ended as a duology. I enjoyed the first book more because everything was so unexpected and fast paced; the pace of the second book slowed at the beginning and only gradually picked up around 50-60% of the book. We are however, rewarded with Lucan and Saskia finally meeting in person right from the beginning of this second book and that was the highlight of this series after all the yearning.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I wouldn’t mind reading the story of other characters in this series.

Thank you Mariah Montoya and Grace Pearce for opportunity to read and review this masterpiece of arc.

The real question is: Did I finish this book, or did this book finish me? (I fear there are no wrong answers.)

It was a ride—what a ride—and I loved every second of it. Every moment between our main characters felt electric. Second books often struggle to live up to a first-book that is a total ✨banger✨, but Veradel not only held its own; at times, it felt even better. Closing it felt like closing an important chapter in my own life. 🥹

Y'all don't sleep on this masterpiece, it's worth every minute ❤️

WOW! I would give this book five million stars ⭐️ if I could. I got the privilege to be an ARC reader and LOVED this book so much! This is the second book in the Guardians and Monsters series.

Available on KU and paperback (not sure on audible)

In the second half of this duology, Saskia and Lucan must work together to save the citizens and bring down the wall. While having to learn about a whole new way of life, Saskia discovers the very thing that could help save her society. Torn between what she’s always been taught and what she knows in her heart she has to decide to choose the life she’s always wanted.

🌶️ passion and possession? What more could you want?
⭐️ Did I mention 5 million stars?
🗡️lots of action scenes, fighting and good ole make your heart beat out of its chest because your worried for your favorite characters
♥️ internal connection between characters that adds another layer to the story line

I am so sad this is just a Duology, I cannot get enough! They will be rereads for sure!

Thank you to Mariah and Grace for allowing me to be a part of the arc team! I am thrilled to be included.

I loved the second half of Guardians and Monsters just as much as the first! From the minute I recieved it I did not want to put it down! Lucan and Saskia were perfection. Everytime I thought I had it figured out what would happen next, I was surprised by a new twist!

Watching Saskia's growth and seeing all of the side characters stories unfold was so fun! Hats off to the writers for including so much depth, not only to the main charaters but to each citizen and pack member.

If yall ever get a wild hair and think that this world has more story (soren.......) haha I wouldnt be mad!

I will still be buying it when it releases, it deserves a place on my shelves!

After reading Xantera I immediately requested to be an ARC Reader for Veradel. And it did not at all disappoint. If you loved The Hunger Games & Divergent and have since transitioned into more of the fantasy realm - this series is for you.

There’s the dystopian and rebellion environment paired perfectly with fantasy characters. The ‘minor’ characters stand out to me, they were all so lovable and I loved the way they were incorporated in this book as well. The FMC and MMC are probably some of my favorites. The FMC is a powerhouse on her own, and the MMC really lets her become her own person.

There’s plot twists, call-backs and an ending that was satisfying (but I would absolutely read another 2 books in this universe).

Absolutely loved the conclusion of this short-and-sweet duology!

Saskia and Lucan are such a fun couple - their banter, their respect for one another. I enjoyed seeing Saskia's growth as she continues to not only unlearn and unpack what she's been taught her entire life in a repressed society, but as she comes to terms with who she is. Lucan's love for her and faith in her is so unfailing.

This one has way more spice than book one, and the mix of humor and plot had me gripped to the edge of my seat! I devoured this one quickly.

If you want a quick duology with a spicy romance, vampires and werewolfs, and a hint of dystopian vibes at time, here ya go!

Ahhh we got the ending we wanted this this book. Even though I could probably just live happily in this little world! ♥️♥️ sooooo much of this duet I loved. Even with the times I gasped and my heart sank! But Grace and Mariah put me back together every time.

I loved this world they created and how well they were able to paint this perfect utopia picture that really wasn’t perfect, reality is nothing is absolute perfection. You have to give and take and this book really focused on that. Two sides of the same coin. Two half of a whole. Two souls becoming one. It was beautify and amazing and I NEEDED this book in sooooo many ways.

Lucan and Saskia were wonderfully written characters and learning things with both of them was fun and exciting. To understand Saskia truly you have to realize how sheltered and confined her world was before Lucan. And once that seal is broken there is no going back.

The authors did great with keeping to their lore and the story was written wonderfully. This shifter werewolf/vampire romance is one you definitely need on your radar.

I love this duology! Although it can be difficult to write about a perfect society and make it interesting, the authors did just that. Honestly, I've been hooked since Book 1, Xantera. Vampires, humans, werewolves... What more can I ask for? The way the authors brought each kind of character to life with their own identities and traits was amazing. It carried through both books. Xantera ended in a HUGE cliffhanger and Veradel picked up exactly where it left off. Not gonna lie, I almost passed out from heartbreak by getting ahead of myself reading the first few pages. Normally, I tend to like the first book in duologies the best, but in this case, the second one tops the first. There's so much spice and action. What's even better is the revenge I was itching for was satisfied, and for that, I am truly happy. What an enjoyable read!!!
