Long ago, the Red Fever transformed a world full of light and life into a primeval wasteland littered with relics and decaying cities. In time, the scattered remains of humanity gathered into small, warring tribes.
For sixteen-year-old Kestrel Stoneheart, the ghosts of yesterday have little bearing on the future she has worked for her entire life: to join the elite warriors of her tribe and protect her people against all enemies.
But before she can stand beneath the Bone Tree and become a Red Hand, she must first survive the rite of the Kill.
What Kestrel doesn’t know is that the greatest danger lies hidden within her own tribe, a menace that threatens not only her life but the very existence of her people.
Well-written, quick-paced YA dystopian semi-fantasy fiction without any of the dispicable clichéd tropes that you usually find in YA. But, the protagonist Kestrel is ridiculously bland and annoying and her story feels so unconvincing and really dull.
This book ends abruptly, which is more annoying than exciting cliff hanger, and the plot that has been laid out feels exceptionally boring and not worth following. It could be so exciting with the deserted old cities but it feels like its just going to be rather pointless.
This book is a perfect example of why novellas make me crazy. There was not enough character development or detail in the story. It had potential but the end came completely unexpectedly but did not leave me wanting more.
I got bored 25% in and I put it down for a while. It is a very short book but it didnt compell me to read it. In the end I managed to read it all. Is not a bad story but I dont know I just... - sigh- I will not continue with the serie.
This book has you follow members of a primative tribe in a post apocalypic world, with the protagonist trapped into following her headstrong but brainless brother on a potentially devastating mission. The world-building is impressive, and the main character is interesting.
I lose interest half way through. Is not a bad book, I don't know why I just couldn't keep going with it. Even though is very short, it bored me. I will not continue this series.
Obviously, a start to a series but well written and a full story in itself. The plot was pretty good and the two main characters were well done. If anything, I might have wanted a bit more background but I'm assuming that will come in the future.
Just an fyi, I got this for free and did not need to write any reviews. I think it would qualify as a YA book but is better written than most. Give this one a try.
IThe red hand is a good r read with any strong female lead. She struggles with age old problem of right and wrong and love\fear\insecurity with her brother. I enjoyed the story very much
This book is very good, if you like stories of tribes and survival you are sure to enjoy this. The fight scenes in particular are very well written, I was finding myself flying through chapters with ease.
While I did enjoy reading this story I'm stopping with this introductory volume since I don't really enjoy the violence I foresee coming nor the manipulation of siblings.
I enjoy story lines that emphasize the strength, determination and bravery of females! I enjoyed this story. But anger, self doubt and the desire for revenge can weaken and destroy the best victory.
