Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!
Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.
I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.
I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.
Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!
I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.

It is not always the family that you are born into, but the family you bond with from friendship and love. Carolyn Brown has once again moved me by her words and her stories that are filled with love, and friendship. Three friends and two feisty women who love them like their own, living in a small town. Who brave gossip and prejudice to show the two young women and one young man that they can find love and happiness despite who or what they are.
I loved every page of this book and could not put it down. But what else is new when you read a Carolyn Brown book. I laughed, I cried and sighed with happiness.
I am never disappointed when I read a Carolyn Brown book and I hope I am reading them for many years to come. Well done again Ms. Carolyn.

Sweet story about biological and other kinds of families
Tina is back in Benson, Texas, before she plans to go visit her parents and het her life figured out. She goes to see the Tomorrow Tree that was across the road from where she was watched over by Cleo and Mae. It was only supposed to be for a moment, but then Cleo came out and brought her back to the house. She finds that her best friends from before, Gracie and Walker, live there and moves in herself. But things are not as they used to be. Gracie is dating someone her parents would not approve of, and now Tina is working with Walker and feeling more than friendship! Can you ever go home again? Read this sweet story to find out.
The pace is engrossing and the tone is hopeful with a character centered storyline that has some kisses and suggestions but no detailed steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and endearing. This is a super story and classic Carolyn Brown! I loved it! The small town drama really makes it even better with some sweet moments and some that make you laugh out loud! Enjoy!

Great summer read

Not one her best
I normally love Carolyn Brown books but I had to make myself finish this one. I felt like the story of Walker and Tina was too drawn out. I didn't feel invested in the characters. Just didn't like the style of writing in this book. As I said, not up to her usual standard.

Thirteen years have passed since Tina left Benson, and the painful reasons behind her departure have never fully healed. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when she reunites with the elderly Mae and Cleo, the extraordinary women who raised not only Tina but also Walker and Gracie. Their unwavering love and acceptance bring a sense of belonging back into Tina’s life. The wonderful ladies offer her a room, and she soon reunites with Walker and Gracie. I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely story. The humor, the warmth, and the genuine kindness of the characters made this such a lovely story. The slow-burn romance added just the right touch of sweetness, but what tied the story together most beautifully was the Tomorrow Tree itself. More than just an old oak, it served as a constant reminder of childhood dreams, enduring friendships, and the hope that it’s never too late to begin again.
As always, Brittany Pressley delivered a wonderful narration. She brought each character to life with warmth and emotion, making this audiobook an absolute pleasure to listen to.

Warm and fuzzy story, made up entirely of deep love, acceptance & inclusion in a mama's hugs
Smells like sweet tea, chocolate cookies that southern mamas make aplenty for their kids.
Cleo & Mae are just that. Super loving, holding down the fort for their adopted family - Tina, Grace & Walker. Just like the giant oak tree standing near the house with roots deep inside to grasp mother earth tightly. The whole town is steeped in old world era which hasn't changed much.
Cleo is still fighting with iris the neighbor. Chickens and goats are still jumping fences. All-in-one store sells high end merch right next to the bird seed and everyone is in everyone's business with no boundaries.
The kids have grown up and moved away, but Tina O'Grady comes back to Benson, TX and finds the true meaning of life & love. Fierce love of mamas protects their grown up "babies"like branches of oak tree protected their dreams
I enjoyed it, narration by Brittany Pressley made it even more enjoyable

Wow, visiting Benson Texas now that was a pleasant experience 😊‼️Meanwhile, ”The Tomorrow Tree” was a culmination of forgiveness, friendships, family, love with a side order of shenanigans 🤦🏾♀️🤭. Nevertheless, we can’t choose our relatives. However, we have autonomy to select our family…& I choose you😉🤩😍👀‼️

Didn’t want it to end
I love this author! Tina, Gracie and Walker are awesome. The love that they have for one another and the people around them is inspiring. Every one should have a Tomorrow Tree even if it’s just in their hearts.

I want way more than "just one more chapter"
First of all, I love that this book is set in New Mexico. Growing up, my parents and I spent time there every summer. Reading this book took me back to those wonderful moments, and of the times I spent with my "grandpa", who was my Cleo and Mae, and my daddy, who gave me his love of the Southwest and the amazing people there. This book is an incredible love story, not only in the traditional sense, but of those we choose to be our family, and how those people are often the best family we could ask for. The characters in this book became a part of my chosen family too. I am so hoping that there is another book, I really need to know how my family is doing!

The Tomorrow Tree by Carolyn Brown is the story of a homecoming and three good friends. They had been unofficially adopted years earlier by two women: Mae and Cleo. She (Tina), Gracie, and Walker. They had been friends for years until Tina ran to university and then effectively disappearing from Benson, Texas for the next ten years. She had just stopped by to visit their tree, the Tomorrow Tree, but Cleo spotted her. There were after school cookies just like there always had been. They had tried a bed and breakfast but there was little call in this small town, so now they ran a boarding house. There were just two boarders, with a third room available for her. Then, she discovered that the other two boarders were Walker and Gracie. They were not as angry as she thought they’d be. They had missed her and were thrilled to have her back. They were a family again.
Tina, the main character, was a lovely young woman who had made mistakes. But, hadn’t every one. Each of the three had secrets and some problems that they had not yet shared. It was a journey for each of them, sometimes heartbreaking. It was a fun read, full of friendship and relationship problems, both romantic and otherwise. Their problems were unique, some were race based, some were not. But all three of them had Mae and Cleo to back them up and back them up they did. Some of it was amusing. There were some truly funny mean girls, despite the fact these people are all past thirty. But, some people never grow up. Good story, part romance, part just daily life. Good read.

This was a pretty good book that I read and listened to on audio. Tina is back in Benson, Texas after being away for 10 years. She goes to see the Tomorrow Tree that was across the road from where she was watched over by Cleo and Mae. She finds out that her childhood best friends Gracie and Walker live there and moves in herself. But things are not as they used to be. Gracie is dating someone her parents would not approve of and Tina is working with Walker and feeling more than friendship. Walker finally tells Tina he wants more than to be friends with her. I loved that some of the Navajo traditions were in this story. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I also liked the narrator as I also listened to it on audio.

By now you know that I love reading Carolyn Brown books! They are filled with Southern charm and sass, cowboys, strong-willed women sweet storylines, and always, always, always have a "happily ever after".

Beautifully written story. Loved this book.
Love the characters. Transported you right into their lives. Beautifully written story of friendship and love. As this author often does, she add some elderly loving role models.

3 best friends re-unite after one had been away for 10 years. They realized they chose their family headed by to cantankerous former babysitters. Story moved along. Better than some books, not as good as others.

I think this book was a good example of what some families go through. I can say that while a little bit of it was slower to read it was a great book. I have to say that I was happy to see this book listed with Prime First Reads. I don’t always catch an author that I actually like to read from. Or even a book that was already on my list of books that I want to read!

Always like Carolyn Brown books, but loved this one. Everyone should be able to relate to something, whether friendships bullying family relationships good or bad, possible small town life and all it involves. Loved the easy flow for me from start to finish.

A ‘Coming home’ story
Tina finds herself at the tree in the town she’d grown up in. A place of happiness and good memories. Then she meets up with her two best friends, Gracie and Walker and things just fall into place again. Small town prejudices and mean girls, grudges and untrue legacies are revisited and the love story slowly ambles towards its inevitable conclusion. There is humour, sadness and some drama that explodes like fireworks whilst other situations whimper out. A nice story of true friendship.

Once again Carolyn Brown gives us terrific characters who are trying to make their way through difficult circumstances. Tina is trying to rebuild her life after a series of bad choices, and her found family insists on welcoming her back in. They won't let small-town gossip drive her away. This is a sweet and funny story with lots of good moments. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, too.
