Given the ubiquitous nature of tablets and computer games, it was only a matter of time before someone would write and illustrate a picture book about the difficulties in abandoning those alluring screens. In this amusing picture book Yeti is obsessed with winning a game in which she creates snow cone flavors, but her father keeps interrupting her for meals, chores, and a friend's visit. Eventually, she realizes that taking a break from the screen can allow her to recharge and come back with new ideas. While the book's message is worth sharing--real life is just as important as screen time with imaginary scenarios--I have to wonder if she'd have been so willing to stop playing if she hadn't just won the game. Created with Adobe Photoshop, the illustrations effectively capture the experience and emotions associated with gaming, making this one a good choice for very young gamers. The rest of us probably won't be as interested in it.

Yeti is really enjoying the game on her tablet. But when Dad tells her it's time for lunch or asks for help with the dishes, Yeti gets upset. How can she win her game is she constantly gets interrupted? Dad steps in and says it's time for a break. Yeti heads outside to play with a friend and has an epiphany about how to get unstuck in her game. She finally agrees with Dad that break time is a good thing.

A good one for children who need to learn boundaries with screen time. A bit preachy, but it should get the point across.

Yeti is not ready to stop gaming, but Dad interrupts her progress. Yeti is sure she'll win once she goes back to gaming, but she loses, and that's when taking a break, though it's not what she wants, is just the thing to do because it allows her to see things from a fresh perspective.
