Shadow of Lilith

Rate this book
My name is Piper Gorecki, Heir of House Gorecki, Devana blessed and chosen leader of all vampire hunters. This is my hunt.

Red. All I see is red.
I can’t stop seeing it. Every time I close my eyes, it greets me, eager to send me into a spiral of nightmares. Blood sprayed across the cabin’s walls, and the revolting squish of gore beneath my boots will forever haunt me. I can still hear the anguished screams of the ones we could not save,
the ones whose screams will now and forever go unheard.
There's something different with the vampire covens lately. Their bloodlust is growing out of control. My partner, Adam, and I have had far too many close calls with ancient vampires over the last few months, yet the Collective Council of Elders doesn't seem concerned.
I don't trust them. They're hiding something from the Hunters, but I am also hiding something from them.
The sickly-sweet stench of death and decay clings to me. I've been touched by it too many times. I can't escape it.
Death stalks my sleep, and so does he.

4.5 ⭐️ 3🌶

I was thoroughly impressed by this debut novel. When the blurb mentions serious Buffy vibes, take that to heart. This is the adult version of a hunter's saga and being the chosen one of the hunters guild.

Piper is the chosen one. The slightly neurotic chaotic openly bisexual vampire slaying machine. Her destiny is preordained after being chosen to lead the guild of vampire hunters for this generation. What makes her unique is the portrayal of her real life weaknesses as they add to the complexity of her character.

Her partner in crime is another hunter Adam. A teacher by day and Thor like slayer by night. There are quite a few pop culture references in this tale. Together they must deal with the local coven of vampires that are increasing in this small town NY state setting.

The local coven of Lilith are led by Sergei a centuries old vampire.

The weaving of diary entries are a nod to Stoker's Dracula. This tale will have you rooting along for this band of Scoobies.

I was given an advanced copy for an honest review.

4.5⭐ - A must-read for spooky season!
1🌶

I loved this blend of high stakes action + cozy vibes. Our FMC is a baker + cat lady by day and a badass vampire hunter by night. Likewise, our MMC is a hot teacher + cat daddy by day and also a badass vampire hunter by night. Piper and Adam are the platonic pairing I didn't know I needed. I absolutely adored both of them as characters. I am a sucker for good banter and there is no shortage of hilarious banter between these two. As a certified romance girlie who is used to the MMC being the love interest, I can honestly say this was a pleasant change-up. But fellow romance lovers do not fret, there is some very sweet and swoony romantic subplotting happening in here.

This is filled with plenty of mystery, secrets and plot twists that kept me super engaged the entire time and gasping at certain points. I was stressed by the end and cannot wait to see what happens in book 2.

I received an eARC from the author. This review reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.

I cannot say enough good things about this book! I was fortunate enough to read it as an ARC and this book had me hooked from the beginning! The writing style is clear and easy to read (and binge).

The main characters Piper and Adam are fun and their back and forth banter and jokes are entertaining! This book is so incredibly quotable! Reading this reminded me of a 90s TV show where the scenery is very ominous and gritty and the bad guys are truly bad like on Charmed and Buffy

Something that Hosler did that I absolutely love was she didn’t do a vampire human romance. The vampires are the bad guys and they for sure do not sparkle. The two main characters Piper and Adam are friends, very good friends and to see a male female relationship that is pure friendship is refreshing!

I absolutely love how Piper and Adam research as they hunt and how their thought process and their steps to figuring things out is shown to the readers. I also really enjoyed how this book was seeped in folklore and mythology.

Also, do not read this book without food handy! There was so much food talk and such tasty sounding stuff and thankfully there are recipes in the back of the book!

My final comment is, I cannot wait for the next book! This book was left on such a cliffhanger!

First of all, I cannot believe this is a debut novel! Secondly, this book sucked me in, and I was unable to read anything else until I finished binging it.

I have to start with the dedication because it got me immediately. It says "For every Millennial who was obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is for you.” Yup. 100%, it's literally for me. Thanks!

The Buffy vibes are on point (pun intended), the cats are perfection (duh) and the bakery setting made my little foodie heart so happy (and hungry). Somehow SOL manages to be mysterious, action packed, dark, cozy, and funny all at once.

The pacing in this book is perfect even with everything going on in the story. The story pulls you in and doesn’t let go. There are definitely a few “wtf” moments that had me shrieking (IFYKYK).

And the characters are so good. I honestly wish I could walk into this town and hang out with them The banter between Piper and Adam is perfection. (I admit it. I fell for the blonde guy. ) Piper herself? I loved that she’s not perfect. She's real, a bad ass and loveable. (I also have a crush on Anisha.)

Tropes & vibes you’ll find inside:
💀 Buffy-level vampire action
🐱 Cats (very important)
💜 Bisexual representation & sapphic subplots
🖤 Gothic vibes & feral vampires
⚔️ Secret societies & messy secrets
🔥 FMCs with authority issues

If you love Buffy and you like your supernatural fiction with heart, humor and a little bite (pun intended) SOL is 100% for you.

(Also…how dare you leave us hanging. *Demands book two immediately*)

Amazing debut

It's the first book in a series following Piper Goreki, a vampire hunter and heiress to the Devanna Collective. She is fierce, smart, and quite the smartass.

The vibes were off the charts. The witty banter and pop culture references had me hooked. The story was fun, gory, and an all-around good time. If youlike Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then this book is for you.
Ohh and then there is Adam, Piper's best friend and fellow hunter. He is as delightful as he is deadly. I usually don't fall for blonds, but he is one of the exceptions. Together, they keep their small town safe, but at what cost?

I have the privilege of working as Stevie's editor for Shadow of Lilith and it is, without a doubt, an absolute must-read.

Stevie's writing achieves a masterful balance between mythical grandeur and grounded, modern reality in a cleverly refreshing style. The book explores intricate magical lore, mature concepts, complicated relationships, all while focusing on the central storyline of a vampire hunting duo trying to navigate their way through their internal struggles of balancing their secret lives, and protecting society from the deadly creatures that hunt at night. Beyond the compelling plot that will leave you desperate to know what's next, the characters in this book are unforgettable. Stevie invests them with genuine depth, relatable flaws, and compelling arcs that make their struggles and triumphs feel earned.

You can expect:
- A badass FMC
- Golden retriever best friend MMC
- LGBTQ+ representation
- Mental health representation
- Blend of reality and paranormal elements
- Old school feral vampires (in the BEST way)
- Chosen one and secret society tropes
- Complex relationships and character growth

Whether you're a seasoned fantasy reader or just dipping your toes into paranormal novels, this book delivers in all the ways you'll want it to.

For days, I have been trying to put into words all of my feelings about this book and what it means to me. I was blessed enough to beta read the text this summer, and further blessed to be given an ARC in its final form. I have been waiting since July to give Shadow of Lilith the five stars it so deserves.

I see a lot of myself in Piper, so obviously I have a massive amount of love for her. Adam is a dream boat and the new love of my life (thanks Stevie!) Anisha is everyone’s new favorite book gf. The whole cast of characters are so well fleshed-out and given such dimension that even those we only meet briefly feel like full people.

Stevie is the QUEEN of dialogue and banter. I felt like a part of the conversation myself (and was living.) What I was pleasantly surprised by is that Stevie is ALSO an action scene queen. I was LOCKED IN to every moment.

Stevie, my heart is so full of love for you and your absolutely incredible debut. I never considered myself a vampire story girly.. until this very moment. Everyone should get this book STAT, and you won’t regret it!!!!!!

4/5 Stars!

Quick Summary: Follow Piper and Adam in their adventures as Hunters as they investigate the rise in vampires.

I thought this was a fun read and was extremely action-packed. I loved the dynamic between Piper and Adam and how supportive they were of each other. The banter between them and the care that they have for each other was so fun to read. I enjoyed the plot, but I felt that there was a lot of filler and repetitiveness, which made it hard for me to stay focused on the book. I enjoyed the side characters and how, as the story progressed, I saw how they were all connected, and many of the questions I had throughout the book continued to be answered. The end was also action-packed and left on a cliffhanger that just made me want to know what happens next.

Overall, this was a solid book and I'm so happy I read it around Halloween because it definitely it that vibe!

Thank you to the Stevie Hosler for an eARC in exchange for an honest review! I can't wait for the next book!

This was such a fun read! If you are a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I know you’re going to love this book. Debut author, Stevie Hosler, wrote exciting novel with twist and turns and an ending that will leave you breathless!

I enjoyed the Slavic mythology scattered throughout! I don’t know a lot about that mythology so I appreciated it. Piper is an amazing main character with a lot of personality and super relatable. Her cat Honey Bun is so cute and brought some fun, cozy humor to the story! I also love the character of Adam, he’s quirky and funny, and has such a nerdy personality!

I urge you to check this book out you won’t regret it !!

Thank you to the author for sending me this ARC in exchange for a review. I also personally bought the novel on Kickstarter so I’m excited to see the physical copy!

This is a strong debut novel and I can already tell I’m going to love this series. The FMC Piper carries some baggage but who doesn’t. At times I want to shake some sense into Piper but no matter what I’m rooting for her. I can’t wait to see her unleash revenge on her enemies! The other characters in Piper’s life are my family now. The banter between all the characters is truly chef’s kiss. The moment of millennial nostalgia are amazing. I could go on and on. Anyway I can’t wait for the next book!

As a Buffy stan, I heard “chosen one” trope and was already in. This book is so much more than that though!

Piper and Adam make a perfect team, and their banter is ::chef’s kiss:: Piper is perfect in her imperfection, and I found her deeply relatable.

This book really brings the return of the sexy but actually bad vampires, and I’m so here for it!

With an underlying mystery and secrets weighing on Piper, this book is non stop and I couldn’t put it down. I was gobbling it up to see what happens next.

A fantastic debut, and I can’t wait to see where this story goes next!

I had the privilege to beta read this book! And I’ll be reading it again once I get my hands on my physical copy.

If you’re looking for a vampire book that’s not your typical romantasy style that’s everywhere lately, you’ve come to the right place.

It’s being compared to Buffy the vampire slayer (which I have never seen an episode of in my life, so I have no idea about the comparison lol)

This takes place in modern day
Vampires X Vampire Hunters
The vampires are evil and more “traditional”
The FMC and MMC are besties and not in a romantic relationship at all
The banter is fun and witty
There is a small romantic subplot with the FMC (sapphic)
There’s a cat named honeybun

Definitely makes for a fun spooky season read!

Read the full review on my blog, Spectral Reads!

I am a vampire fiend. So when I found out a local author was publishing her first book about vampire hunters? I wanted in!

And I'm pleased to say, "Shadow of Lilith" delivers on nearly all fronts. Creepy vampires that don't sparkle in the sun? Check. Strong female lead character? Check. Witty dialogue that doesn't come off as cheesy or cliche? Check.

Heck, there's even a cat. Honestly, Honey Bun was my favorite character. No shade to Piper, Adam, and the rest of the crew, but how can you beat Bun-Bun? Chocolate Babka was a close second, though.

But beyond cute cats, this book has a setup that'll instantly woo any fans of dark fantasy and romance. Piper is a member of the Devana Collective, a vampire-hunting organization that is dedicated to killing off all of Lilith's vampire brood. She's partnered up with Adam, a bubbly and handsome teacher who swings an axe like no one's business. Together, they stalk the night searching for vamps to slay, all while trying to figure out why the coven is getting more aggressive in their attacks.

What a setup, right?

Throughout the novel, Piper and Adam felt like real, developed characters to me - not just the cardboard, cliched cutouts you often see in an author's debut work. Their relationship was incredibly strong, which really upped the stakes any time they went into battle. Even the interactions they had with side characters (including the sapphic romance, gotta love it!) felt very natural and authentic. In fact, this whole world felt authentic, like I'd really been dropped into this small New York town in the middle of a vampire lair. All the cozy touches, from Piper's bakery to the cats, kept the plot and story grounded in between the more gruesome action scenes and made everything come to life. I especially loved the Polish/Slavic references throughout - they helped everything feel so fleshed out.

If there was one weak part of "Shadow of Lilith," I'd say it's in the first half of the book, where Piper and Adam's hunting becomes a bit repetitive. The hunting scenes were filled with action and kept me flipping the page to see what happened next. However, every night they go out and have basically the same experience, and I thought these multiple hunts could have been condensed a bit. That said, I get it - the repetition is really meant to convey the overwhelming nature of this lifestyle and how hard it is to juggle their jobs and personal lives with their side gig taking down big bads. It's a lot, and I think how these mental struggles are conveyed is a refreshing take!

Often, we don't get to see the emotional aftermath of what happens after the hero makes it through a battle. It's not all sunshine and rainbows - far from it. There's pain and regret, all wrapped up in a package of stress and anxiety, and seeing Piper struggle makes her all the more relatable. She's far from perfect, but she cares deeply about the people in her life and will stop at nothing to protect them - even if the cost is her sanity (or life).

The ending, though. Come on! I really hope we have a sequel coming, because I don't see how you can end on a cliffhanger like that. I need to know what happens next!

Overall, "Shadow of Lilith" is a stunning debut novel that transports us deep into the world of vampire lore. The characters feel real, the vampires make you want to take cover, and the vibes are the perfect blend of dark cozy. If you're looking for an adventure that raises the stakes (and then smashes them into a vampire's heart), look no further than this first book in the Devana Collective Chronicles.

Though I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my review, these are my real thoughts.

An ancient order of vampire Hunters, a small town, and a sudden influx of vampires - it’s the amazing debut Shadow of Lilith.

Piper and her best friend Adam make a good team. They aren’t just a baker and a teacher - they’re both part of the Order of Devara, an ancient organisation dedicated to the destruction of vampires.

There’s been an unusual amount of vampire activity in their small town lately, and Piper is suspicious it’s because of her. As the next ruler of the Order, she’s a prime target. But despite the increasing brutality of the attacks on humans, answers are not forthcoming from the Order she dedicated her life to…and then she starts to dream of a vampire who wants to form an alliance…

Aside from this being a phenomenal debut, this book stood out for a couple of reasons. Firstly - in a conscious move away from most vampire stories, this is more Dracula and less Twilight. The vampires are not romanticised - they are the monsters of the story. It has definitely got serious Buffy vibes.

Second - this is not a friends to lovers romance. The primary relationship between Piper and Adam is a platonic friendship (with an almost drunken mistake). They love each other, but most definitely not in that way. While there are romantic subplots in the story, it is really not the focus of the book. The story is queer-normative and Piper is bi.

Third - the pets in this book have the best names. There’s a cat called Honey Buns, a very enthusiastic puppy named Donut, and a kitten called Chocolate Babka.

Given the book is primarily a romance, there’s not too much in the way of spice with a couple of open door scenes. The book deals with brutal death, emotional trauma, rituals, slavery and manipulation. It is the beginning of a new series and the ending is not a HEA. I don’t cry often at all in books, but this had me tearing up.

If you ever wanted to be Buffy, want a fiercely strong female character who doesn’t wait to be saved, or you want the best friends to *stay* best friends, this book is a great read. I recommend it for fans of paranormal romance

This book was EVERYTHING. From page one, it grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go (just how i like it😉). There will be no spoilers in this review because YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO READ THIS BOOK, but we can definitely talk about these characters because I was obsessed with them!!

First up, Piper — our FMC, our hero, our bisexual vampire-hunting queen. She is BAD. ASS. Point blank. Period. She storms every scene with steel, wit, and attitude, and I loved her from page one. My highlights couldn’t handle her sarcasm I was at one point gasping from laughing so hard😅!
Then there’s Adam, her partner in crime. Loyal, deadly, sarcastic, and the perfect balance to Piper’s chaos. Their dynamic? Chef’s kiss. They’re my new favorite platonic duo — ride or die, kill or be killed, and I adored every second with them.
And i fear (because we all KNOW i love the villain and a vampire duhh🤭) Seregei just might’ve been my favorite character…. And I know what you’re thinking BUT i understood his reasons. He was also very loyal to his people, he and Piper actually wanted the same thing (in different forms). I really want a deep dive into him.. maybe a backstory please 👉🏼👈🏼

Back to Piper and Adam.. they hunt vampires, they get the job done, and then… yeah, the universe decides to absolutely ruin their week. Shit hits the fan hard, and things get messy, dangerous, and unexpected and you won’t even see it coming🤭
Again no spoilers, but this book had me on the EDGE of my seat. It’s tense, action-packed, emotional, and beautifully written. The world-building is vivid, the plot moves like a sprint, and the characters are impossible not to love.
And that ENDING??? THE ENDING??? Omg I need book 2 ASAP!

If you love fierce heroines, loyal partners, vampire hunts, and heart-stopping twists, this is definitely the book for you!
Huge thank you to Stevie for letting me ARC read this — I’m officially emotionally damaged in the best way of course, and if you need me, I’ll be sharpening stakes and waiting impatiently for book two. 😉🩸🧛🏽‍♀️

This is a debut novel - for real!?
Stevie Hosler, your writing is so immersive and dark fun, I cannot believe that this is your debut!

Shadow Of Lilith's dedication tells the reader:
"For every Millennial who was obsessed with
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
This is for you.”

The story and characters most definitely live up to that comparison and Stevie Hosler's writing pulls you in from the start.
From the moment I met Piper and Adam, the lovely, charming, sassy and sexy best friends and Hunters of the Devana Collective, I was in love. Their deep bond, banter and skilled fights besides and for each other are a joy to read. It's all action and fun despite the danger of real badass, sometimes crazy Vampires.

But there are also cozy and tender vibes too.
Piper, the female main character, owns a bakery with the lovely name Sweet Crumbs and a cat named Honey Bun, while her best friend and fellow vampire hunter Adam is a hot teacher who wields a badass axe.
I adore their relationship and deep bond that stays a strong friendship throughout everything. There's nothing to worry though, both Adam and Piper get their fair share of butterflies which is both cute and fun!

I should also mention a certain ancient Vampire gentleman, who's russian accent and bewitching powers could turn me any time.
This is how I like my villains - mysterious, dangerous, powerful, unreadable. Sergei's true intentions are puzzling and Piper seems to fall under his spell and into his trap. Unless...

Shadow of Lilith is full of secrets and plot twists, there is not one moment I wasn't entertained, laughing, sighing, cursing or cheering. This is certainly one of my favorite reads this year and I want more!

Stevie Hosler, you got another fan!

If you are looking for a fun sassy "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"-inspired supernatural comedy that will also rip your heart out and leave you a sobbing mess, then you have come to the right place.

If you are looking for a human×vampire romantasy, this isn't the one for you.

As a lover of romantasy, I was initially a little disappointed to learn that romance doesn't play a big role in this story - but I have to say it holds its' own very strongly without it. Piper just being the badass Chosen One who has to deal with hunting vampires while also juggling a personal life is enough action AND character development to keep the reader hooked from the beginning.

Also, as a now 30 year old, it's refreshing to have a FMC in a romantasy that's actually over the age of 21.

Piper and Adam's partnership was a dream. While "friends to lovers" is one of my favourite romance tropes, their platonic friendship based on pure banter, protectiveness and sibling-like love made me realise that they worked so well together without the complication of romance.

That ending though. Some twists were hinted at from the beginning, but certain twists were shocking and utterly heart-breaking. How dare you Stevie. I don't know if my heart can take the sequel (but you bet I'm obviously signing up for that ARC anyway).

Let's talk about this book. Gather around friends, I have an update for you on this book. The update is: go get it and read it. Are you a millennial that grew up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (both the movie and the show)? Do you crave characters that fight vampires and don't fall in love with them? Then hoooo boy, this book is for you!

I laughed and cried and stressed and yelled and then full out put the book down to slide into Stevie's DMs and having a full **moment** before I kept going. The friendship between Piper and Adam has my heart in a chokehold still. I love a good female/male friendship in a book that is just friendship, even if there was that one scene... well, iykyk (or whatever acronym the kids are using these days).

And then we get Anisha, our new favorite book girlfriend. Please, let us all have a moment for this goddess. She puts up with Piper's crap and dishes out her own. Plus, we all love Donut.

Add in a secret society hiding secrets from not only the world but also it's own members. INTRIGUE BABY!

This book ends on a cliffhanger. And it's a big one. So just go ahead and prepare yourself for that and to be on pins and needles while we all wait on book 2.

This was such a great book. The cover art caught my attention and I am so happy I gave it a chance!

Adam and Piper's friendship is something to be admired. The way they always have each others back was friendship goals. The banter between them had me giggling to myself. Adam's come backs were legendary.

I would like to give a standing ovation to the phenomenal use of vocabulary in this book. Holy cow. The plot was well done and I truly enjoyed getting to know each character. Piper's struggle with doing what was right according to the secret hunter societies rules and her own moral compass had me in a roller coaster. I understood her need for always wanting to keep those she loves safe even if it means hurting herself in the end.

There were a few twists I wasn't expecting and THE ENDING OMG. Stevie we need book 2 ASAP because I cannot be left hanging like that.

Some of my fav quotes were
1. "I speak many languages, and I can say 'eat a di*k' in all of them. Care to find out which ones you understand?" Piper asked sweetly, fluttering her eyelashes.
2. "Uno reverse, fucker" She hacked one more time...
3. "When you spend your time chasing down death, you have to remember to live.."

Happy (almost) release day to this book! I apologize since this is also my review from Storygraph.

I wanna think again to Stevie for writing this wonderful book my sister has been talking about it for months. And I can see why she talked about it for months. And I am so appreciative to have received an advanced copy so I can tell other people to read this book. (Sorry for the jumbled review, I did it on my notes app)

If you are a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you will love this book. I love the originality with it. I think the complexity of the situations and the characters were really well written and thought out. The book had a great fantasy world in the real world. (Very well developed) Adam is my favorite character. I definitely love the representation and that a lot of people can feel represented in this book. As a therapist, I think how she wrote mental health was really thought out as well. And I really appreciate how she showed characters having strength, despite having mental health struggles.
I’m gonna need the next book out soon. Because now I’m hooked.

Okay, so I am VERY late finishing this book (it was supposed to be an ARC read) BUT OH MY GOSH!!!
I may or may not have yelled at Stevie for the absolute emotional roller-coaster the last few chapters were 😩 it was a wild ride (and I may have cried reading it).
I love the FMC, Piper, so much. She is hilarious and such a badass and the banter between her and her hunting partner, Adam, was PERFECT! Even with her life on the line, Piper is dishing out sarcastic responses and I love her for that. She's unhinged for sure but you'll love her, her heart is always in the right place. She and Adam work as vampire hunters for the Collective (a secret society of vampire hunters), spending many nights out in the woods and taking them down. They've recently seen an increase in the ancient (and more powerful) ones, trying to figure out why they are in the small town of Cedar Creek. Some… questionable choices are made as Piper uncovers more and more, while trying to balance some kind of social life, and let me tell you, the ending will SHOCK you 🤯

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!

I've read books involving vampires but never with a vampire hunter as the main POV.
Piper and Adam are a pair of vampire hunters in a small town. An uptick in particularly gruesome murders a point to an increased vampire presence and Piper tries to unravel the mystery.

In between chapters there are excerpts from Piper and Adam's personal journals and correspondence from their Vampire hunting collective. I liked this choice by the author because it gives more insight into the characters and their hunting organization as well as building suspense for the climax.

I loved how Piper and Adam were written. The author doesn't shy away from showing the reader how they're affected by their double lives and the carnage they've witnessed.

Added bonus: adorable pets named after baked goods

thank you to Stevie Hosler for the ARC

As a huge Buffy fan, I knew I had to read this book. Not to mention, I’m friends with the author 🥰.

Piper is a legacy vampire hunter. She is tapped to be the next Governor of the hunter collective. She has the best hunting partner in Adam, and together they are hunting the vampires in their small town. But more ancient vampires are being seen and new vampires are being allowed to rip people to shreds. Piper makes a (tentative) deal with an ancient vampire to help bring down the queen, but it brings some very dire consequences.

This book was amazing! Very well written. I was sucked into the story and really didn’t like having to put it down to do things like sleep and tend to my kids 😆. So why did I rate this 4 stars instead of 5? Because the ending just about killed me and I am not happy. I know this just came out, but I’m gonna need the next book!

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

STEVIE WHAT????

This book is marketed perfectly, I got the Buffy vibes immediately. The banter is bantering and I was living for it. Piper used every weapon in her arsenal to be the best hunter she could. Was she sometimes drinking that dumb b*tch juice? Yes. But her intentions were good.

I really like the lore behind the hunters and the responsibility bestowed on them from the goddess Devana. It gave me better insight into what and why the hunters are needed.

I love the side characters. I’ll be honest, I was suspicious of a couple of them at first. Adam 🥹 such a cinnamon roll baby boy! He deserves the world. I also love the relationship Piper and Anisha developed (eventually). Even the less represented side characters of Lilly and Damon in the bakery and Piper’s parents. I know there’s so much depth to all of these characters.

Overall, I love the supernatural underworld Stevie created in this story. I’m super excited to see the badassery Piper brings to the next book.

Dark, edgy and poetic, shadow of Lilith was enticing from the onset and I just couldn’t walk away. This book held me captive and I have no qualms about it.

Piper and Adam, what a dynamic trio! From pastry chef, Professor, to cat lovers and vampire hunters by night. The main characters are hilarious and their witty sarcasm is a treat. This book was etched in grit, with the world around them forshadowing the darker elements, seeped in myth and folklore (these two being knowledge seekers) with yep thats right foodie teasers!! My little yummy tummy couldn’t handle it!! Oof!!

Thick with a twisted plot and the cliffhanger, what a doozy!!! This book was so binge-worthy with all the right vibes for this fall season! Anxiously awaiting the next addition.

3.5 ⭐️

🧛 Takes place in a small town called Cedar Creek
🏹Piper and Adam are Vampire Hunter partners (this duo is great)
🧛‍♂️ they are Hunters- trained by generations
🏹Sergei- the vampire who Piper meets

What happens when Piper meets Sergei? What happens when he proposes a truce of sorts? What happens when everyone is betrayed by those closest to them? Who will survive and who will die trying?

This was marketed as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I saw some of that. But some chapters I felt were fillers and it could have expanded in more areas and fell a little short in others. I had really high hopes for this one.

Thank you Stevie for the ARC :) What a firecracker of a debut novel! This is a vampire book that really stands out from the rest. Piper is very likeable and relatable even with all her flaws. Adam is the ultimate golden retriever best friend character. Their banter is very millennial coded which I loved! I love the representation of sapphic romance in this book and I also appreciated how romance didn’t overtake the plot. The character development with Piper was a roller coaster ride with her fighting between what’s expected of her and her inner moral compass. The cliffhanger is leaving me wanting more and I cannot wait until the second book is out!
